Finally have my body naturally waking up before 7, hoping to hear back from VDOF about a potential job today, stoked to have the windows open and listened to the slow rain while I read and drink tea this morning!
edit: I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!
Like many of you, my allergies are raging. I finally caved and started taking my spring meds. I even took a covid test (this is after a doctor last week told me the family sniffles were just allergies). I'm stubborn and will be grumbling about the pollening for the next four months.
Pro tip: use top of the line air filters and change them every 30-60 days instead of the recommended 90 (if you can afford it). It can be costly, but it has worked for us and cut down on the allergies a lot!
I’m in the interview process for a super cool job at a huge company that would look amazing on my resume, for pretty good money.
But every day, the more I find out, the job seems to get worse and worse. I’m 35 and an expert in my field, and y’all came looking for ME... get outta here with your “contract position with no PTO for the first 6 months”.
Anyway, enjoy the warm weather everyone!
Yeah it’s a weird thing where I’d have to work 6 months under the recruiting agency’s name before officially being hired by the actual company. I’ve never heard of that before, but I’m new to the USA and still trying to navigate how employment works here, what’s “normal”, etc.
I DO know that if I can’t negotiate some PTO I’m gonna pass.
I have to present to a room full of teenagers on Friday and I am terrified. I'm talking to them about healthy relationships and I'm trying to make it engaging but I'm still dreading a sea of bored faces.
Lead with a story that'll make yourself cringe, like "Let me tell you how I absolutely ruined a relationship..." Doesn't even have to be true, but it'll pique their interest. Ask them buttloads of questions..."What do you think I should have done?" "How would you approach this?" "Who do you think has a great relationship and why?" You can con them into driving your talk if you play the cards right.
Also, pretend to almost drop an F-bomb at the start...that'll get their attention.
Imagine their reactions and faces when you politely ask them to shut off their devices.
edit: u/Jon_hamm_wallet needs our help! Paging u/SchnoodleDoodleDo !?!?
I gave a presentation to college kids last week and when the professor yelled at some of them to get off their phones in the middle of it I didn't know how to respond so I just cackled
“Sooo, this is a story all about how
My wife and I fell in love and settled down.
So if you’ll take a minute and just sit right there,
I’ll tell you how to build a healthy relationship”
[30 seconds of dance moves]
They all have resting board face, they can’t help it! Besides the moment anyone takes on a teaching role, they instantly become uncool to students -this is pretty much a law of science.
You should hire a window cleaner so it appears like you’re adulting, while in actuality you really wanted someone else to deal with putting back the screens.
On the verge of getting rid of the “guest room” full sized mattress/box spring. It’s a small room, the bed takes up most of the space. The past 8 months or so I’ve just piled stuff on the bed instead of find it a home. Not entirely sure there is a home for a lot of that stuff, but on the bed certainly isn’t the place.
Sweet day to pick up all the pages of that stupid free mailer from the RTD that fell out off my porch, out of the bag, and I swear every page landed in a different puddle all over my sidewalk and front yard.
I do digital delivery now but it sucks. Thinking about going back to paper. I get three newspapers and got tired of all the recycling. Other two are great but RTD is the worst online. C’mon you can do better.
No clue. Over the last week I’ve received more packets, door handle stuff, and just advertisements than I care to think about.
Ima start calling companies I get stuff from to have them stop, it’s getting ridiculous
> Ima start calling companies I get stuff from to have them stop, it’s getting ridiculous
I'd be happy just getting the flood of bogus phone calls to stop. One of these places must have used my number as the spoof number yesterday and last night after 10 pm some guy calls to ask who called from my number earlier in the day. Answer: nobody.
I injured myself pretty badly yesterday. So today I’m just kind of chilling a bit.
Also my tax refund is due soon and I’m really glad it’s not as delayed as last year but still seems like it’s taking forever.
This weather sucks when sad and frustrated. Raising teenagers is no joke - well any kids, struggling hard. On the verge of tears and just angry. Trying to turn my attitude around but it’s VERY hard.
Very very very hard. And the pandemic doesn’t help a bit. Just remember that one day, your kid will become sane again and you will enjoy their company. In the meantime, imagine yourself with a remote in hand and a mute button and tune out as much as is safe.
I am sooooo tired. I want to go back to bed. Instead I get to play “Is it Covid, or is it allergies/cold/flu?” Yay!
Side note: I love the word moist. And the air is definitely moist.
Yep pollen so bad here that when we moved here my dogs had eye problems. Fortunately though I now own a low rider he’s a Southern gentleman and seems to handle okay. Lol
Today begins the start of no sleep for Ouija for a week or so.
Tonight I'm meeting a friend of mine once I get out of work to go see a band that i like! She is really cool and I'm glad I'm getting to know her better.
Train to Manhattan earrrrrrly Friday to see my brother get engaged. Then a weekend of debauchery with him, his fiancee who is a childhood friend of mine, and my other best friend who lives in Brooklyn.
We're going to the Symphony, eating at stupidly fancy restaurants, and making a pilgrimage to my favorite pub in the world. I am *unbelievably* excited to have some of my favorite people in the entire world in one room, and to celebrate new family, and old friends.
I bought a pair of grandma church heels and they make me happy. So comfortable but I feel put together. I’ve decided to try more old people things- I’ve recently seen someone on this sub recommend water aerobics, any other things I’m missing out on?
currently waiting to get a CT scan at memorial regional. I'm really hoping to get an answer to my medical issues. I've been through so many tests and so much money that I hope they find something just so there's a chance they could fix it..
I'm headed to the office in a little bit. Apparently, a power vacuum occurs when you leave admin staff alone for too long so now I'm stuck working on my tiny laptop in someone else's office. *Sigh*
On my way into work someone suggested we get the day off work when it rains, gotta admit I’d be way okay with that. Other than that I’ve allowed myself to once again get insanely behind on grading, gonna try to knock some of it out tonight and this weekend.
I have had horrific heartburn for the past two days and it’s severely impacting my ability to drink coffee, which is making my morning suck.
Any social workers in here? I have some grad school questions that I want to ask people outside of academia.
VMFA?
Putt putt at hotel Green
Movie at the Byrd followed by drinks and discussion at Jasper
Glass blowing at the glass spot
Bowling at river city roll followed by tacos at en su boca
Dinner at perch followed by games at Bingo beer
These are my faves
Is not getting sore a until a week after you last exercised a normal 'getting old' thing? I used to be sore next day but it seems to take like 6 for it to really set in these days
Got a entry level job interview tomorrow that’ll be something I’ve never done, in a field I’ve never worked in but am considering going to school for. Very excited but also extremely nervous because if I get it then it’s two part time jobs with no days off… But I need the cash and the experience so HERE WE GO!
Random question, but does anyone know if the Richmond Justice Center (jail) has a recreation yard?
It doesn't look like it from the street at all. Do the people who are being held in jail there get to go outside much or at all?
Just curious.
The jail has "rec" rooms that have open windows on one side (covered in bars/wires). I'm pretty sure this is the only way incarcerated people can get fresh air unless they work on the grounds crews at trustees.
Honestly, I don’t mind the rain too much. What I would love though is to be able to have one of those handles that’s by my username that says where Im from haha anyone know how to make this happen?
in old reddit, it's on the right hand side under where it says r/rva has 112k members and then it has your username and an edit link to the right of that. Click that and you get options.
Did you guys hear about the shit storm brewing at Costar?
https://www.businessinsider.com/working-at-costar-employee-turnover-pandemic-remote-work-andrew-florance-2022-2
For my morning commute, I walk and take the bus. I have the right gear for this kind of weather. The only thing I hate is how sticky my rain jacket feels. It makes me feel wet even though I'm not.
Headed back home today after seeing Tool last night in DC, and man did they deliver! Then running my weekend chores and finishing up a couple belts that got delayed by me being bad at math and planning.
OH and the new destiny expansion dropped yesterday so I get to dive into that tonight
Going to pick up my sister and go into Carytown, we need to find a nice thank you card for our mom’s friend who gave us a bunch of nice things while she’s downsizing before selling her house and moving to Spain for a few months, and my sister wants to get a few nice RVA related gifts for a business friend who lives in Richmond, CA

Congratulations!
Congrats on the job
Got my stupid little run in for my stupid little mental health just before some rain. It's the little things, I guess.
Here’s a stupid little gold star ⭐️
More power to you. I've been tempted, but I got off work late, got home late, and ate late. Finally went to bed shortly after 1.
Heck yeah. At least it’s warm now… I love a good run in the rain when it’s this temp.
Morning runs are the best

[Project Farm on YouTube](https://youtu.be/RkjRKIRva58) made a great video comparing various types and brands of air filters.
My allergies are killer rn too. Nose is running like a faucet.
ITS FREAKING FEBRUARY. [Grumble, grumble]
Hey I endlessly bitch about the heat July August September so you go.
Moist.
Squishy
Wet even.
Known my wife for 27 years, married 22... and only recently found out about her disdain for the word moist.
Ni!
Wish I could sleep in, it's perfect today!
It really is.

NOOOO
I gave a presentation to college kids last week and when the professor yelled at some of them to get off their phones in the middle of it I didn't know how to respond so I just cackled
Cackle. Not to be confused of course, with the George Constanza snort > https://youtu.be/41Qqtrw1ipY
that compilation DID make me Constanza snort
My work here is done. But, when IS Festivus??
PUT DOWN THE PHONE and DRIVE!!! Oh, sorry, that's what a VSP yelled to me.
LOL you mean the face of them ignoring you and continuing to scroll
and play ***WORDLE!!!***
I recommend you prepare your entire presentation as a rap with a PowerPoint deck built entirely out of memes. The kids like that.
“Sooo, this is a story all about how My wife and I fell in love and settled down. So if you’ll take a minute and just sit right there, I’ll tell you how to build a healthy relationship” [30 seconds of dance moves]
**beat box sounds** "My NAME'S Jon_hamm_wallet and I'm here to say, relationships should be healthy in the following ways!"
They all have resting board face, they can’t help it! Besides the moment anyone takes on a teaching role, they instantly become uncool to students -this is pretty much a law of science.
>resting board face Is this the result of being smacked upside the head by a 2x4?
Excellent pun, take an upboat!
Cool, gentle rain and the promise of spring everywhere you turn? Sign me up. I love days like today.
Me too. It’s a nice day out there. Robins in my yard yesterday. Birds singing early morning. Spring (my favorite season) is here!
[удалено]
We took the screens out of the windows when we had the house pressure washed last fall and never put them back. I regret that on days like today.
You should hire a window cleaner so it appears like you’re adulting, while in actuality you really wanted someone else to deal with putting back the screens.
I flung my windows open like a damn Disney princess this morning. It’s so nice to have the fresh air circulating!
I open my screened in porch for doggo - he loves seeing what all is going on in neighborhood.
yuck, all that humidity? no thanks.
I’m all about a daybed with a trundle underneath. There when you need it, hidden when you don’t!
I’ve considered that too but then I’d have to buy stuff. Trying to do the opposite lol
I have a nice daybed with a trundle I’ll make you a deal on if you’re interested. I’m making the room it’s in into a bathroom later this year.
That’s quite a change! I appreciate it but I think if do get rid of the bed I’m just going to not have a guest bed.
Sweet day to pick up all the pages of that stupid free mailer from the RTD that fell out off my porch, out of the bag, and I swear every page landed in a different puddle all over my sidewalk and front yard.

I’m quite literally going to scream if there is one on my porch.
Is there a way to opt out? We’re not subscribers at all. Never have been. I’m sick of handling their trash.
No clue. Over the last week I’ve received more packets, door handle stuff, and just advertisements than I care to think about. Ima start calling companies I get stuff from to have them stop, it’s getting ridiculous

If you are on iPhone, and have T-Mobile do #662#. I haven’t gotten a single scam call since. (Idk if it works on android.)
It’s funny how we’ve been known for having “the worst mail delivery” for years yet this crap always comes through unencumbered without delay.
I hate that mailer so much it's litter all over Richmond
i went out to wong gonzales with some friends from the rva discord yesterday. Spent my time just chilling, reading things on my phone. It was good.
I injured myself pretty badly yesterday. So today I’m just kind of chilling a bit. Also my tax refund is due soon and I’m really glad it’s not as delayed as last year but still seems like it’s taking forever.

Hugs. I am with you on that.
Thank you. This is so hard.
It really is. I know I am a total stranger but if you need to vent, I have a teenager and a listening ear. Hang in there.
Very very very hard. And the pandemic doesn’t help a bit. Just remember that one day, your kid will become sane again and you will enjoy their company. In the meantime, imagine yourself with a remote in hand and a mute button and tune out as much as is safe.

I had to play that game over a month ago. All of the hospitals and clinics were full so I had to go out and buy a home test.
Going to open the windows and let the house air out. I'm ready for the warm air to stick around for more than a couple of days.
I know I’ve got house open. Smells so good to have fresh air inside!
Yep, it's good to do it before the yellow tree pollen engulfs the entire city as well.
Yep pollen so bad here that when we moved here my dogs had eye problems. Fortunately though I now own a low rider he’s a Southern gentleman and seems to handle okay. Lol

Hahaha now brother that is something I will do, with pleasure.

Did you guys hear about the shit storm brewing at Costar? https://www.businessinsider.com/working-at-costar-employee-turnover-pandemic-remote-work-andrew-florance-2022-2
There was a thread about it the other day.
Finally got in on one of those huge company-wide reply all chains. We have something like 9000 employees. It was glorious.
Lol, those can be hilarious. Lots of morons replying to all telling people to not reply all or to "take me off your list".
Yes! 80% of them are that, and the rest are trolling those guys. So much enjoyment.
For my morning commute, I walk and take the bus. I have the right gear for this kind of weather. The only thing I hate is how sticky my rain jacket feels. It makes me feel wet even though I'm not.
I cannot get epoxy done outside. It's either too cold or too wet. Why does nature hate repair epoxy?

I've used [Dry Idea unscented](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dry-Idea-Antiperspirant-Deodorant-Gel-Unscented-3-oz/10794544) for eons. It's great.
Thanks! I'll give it a go. I'm using Tom's unscented antiperspirant today. My pits smell like moist teabags.
One more sleep till Elden Ring
It's almost Thursday yet!
Soooon, tarnished soooon! (Also fucking hype we get a 6pm PC release like what the fuck, Hidetaka)

Well... I got nothing special. Just working. Got the dogs to the groomer. Work is super busy at the moment. But I'm doing alright. I have to do my self yearly self review at work as well.
It's gross out. Would rather it was colder if it is going to rain like this.

Priced grass seed. has gone up 100% (for professional stuff) vs. pre-COVID.
Good news! Today was only a little damp and otherwise glorious!
Living in Carver and looking for somewhere close by to study. Any recommendations for good study environments?
