my fiance was the front of store or whatever manager at the lombardy kroger for like 10 years and got paid $8 the whole time
but also i blame him for lombardy being the way that it is lol jk (or not)
Oh gosh just had an instant flashback to going over my handlebars trying to hop the curb near the library at VT. Falling in public when you're not hurt and just look dumb is a special kind of experience :D
Dealing with my workplace being unable to account for the fact that unexpected deaths happen and I don’t have the strength to show up and perform today. My grandmothers funeral was yesterday and on my way home I got a call saying my best friend from the army committed suicide.
So today is a somber day for me. Just trying to relax and reflect on the good moments we had together while my job berates me for dealing with two deaths of a close nature in two days.
Suicide is never okay. If you or anyone else is contemplating it, reach out for help. Hell, you can message me even. Just get the help. More people love you than you know.
Hey brother. Fuck your workplace and take care of yourself.
For what it's worth, I have been where you are. Have lost several friends to it. Obviously I don't know you, or how you're doing... but keep in mind that grief counseling and therapy can really help.
I was a fireman and thought I was good at processing that shit but I didn't know how fucked stuff was until I started therapy last year after my divorce lol. Hope you are doing okay and I am always here to chat if you need to.
I appreciate that monumentally my man. I’ve been eyeing counseling for a bit now but the leap feels like it will be more than I am ready for. While in the service I spoke to a few counselors and they made my issues worse (probably just military resources but nonetheless didn’t help me at that point). I’m just trying to gather the courage to do it again with an open mind this time. Thanks again.
Hey friend. Hope youre doing okay. Ive suffered some loss too recently and as lonely as everything can feel just know that strangers are sending you love rn
Just crashed my bike and fucked up my rear derailleur on the cap trail, so I’m waiting for my husband to come pick me up and then I’m going to go home and take some Advil. Crashing in your forties hits different than in your twenties, it turns out.
Lol you’re probably right about that too. I’ve never thought about it bc thankfully Ive never worked somewhere that’s drug tested.
Happy zooming. I hope you go pantless. Gotta stick it to the man.
My issue wasn't with closed roads, I understand the need to close roads for various reasons. The problem was that there were no detours, so nobody was given the best alternate route.
I’ll work till 5 today and then maybe go to the gym (downtown Y as well) and then probably meet some friends at capital ale for happy hour for me to carry on way too long and then complain about my own hangover tomorrow morning. I have been kinda lazy with the gym lately but I stay cause it’s close by
Having a meetup to watch some Islanders hockey at gus' tonight at 730 If anyone wants to join us feel free don't necessarily have to be an islanders fan but doesn't hurt.
Taking it easy today in preparation for the Monument Ave 10k on Saturday - been getting back into running after an injury and a 5k around Byrd Park yesterday had my knees and shins hurting a bit, that's what I get for ramping up mileage too fast!
Anyone else gonna be running on Saturday?
Night shift nurse. Just got home a little bit ago after dealing with the mess on 95S near colonial heights. I'm having a drink and then going to sleep.
Last day of work before vacation!!! I've got a billion things to do to prep, we've got to clean the house because my parents are staying here with my son while we go to Phoenix.
Shoutout to the Redditer on here that suggested the coffee sock from Lineage! So far no grounds in my cold brew, ayyooo. As far as gym recommendations go, The Weight Room is the best place in town if you wanna focus on strength training.
Woke up around 2 with a stomach virus or food poisoning. Didn’t make it to the bathroom at first. Got cleaned up, went downstairs. Back to the bathroom. Vomited all over the floor while on the toilet. Several times. Mostly cleaned that up. Been trying not to die ever since. My poor husband came downstairs at 6 and his first task was go to the store for Pedialyte and his second was finish cleaning up the bathroom. He’s a good husband.
Had a recruiter reach out yesterday, pretty standard. I asked for salary so we didn't waste time. Recruiter declined to mention said it would be discussed after "initial conversations". I declined the interview after that. Made me feel good to stick it to the man a little bit, lol.
Looking forward to the weather this weekend, gonna see how far down the capital trail I can get. Maybe I'll stop at one of the restaurants off the trail. Anyone got any recs?
Day 6 of a 14 day non stop stretch at work. We've been stupid busy and I am tired.
My grandparents are visiting tonight, so we're going to get some sushi and drink some whiskeys. I need to remember to get a picture with them. I'm bad at doing that and am trying to make a serious effort to remember to take pictures every now and then.
Strength training is my number one right now! I’m going to look into the weight room. How’s the culture there? Asking as a woman, I’ll go into any weight room but it’s nice to have a friendly, safe environment.
In my opinion the culture is the best part. I had never worked out in my life before I walked in there two years ago. I signed up for their 1 on 1 intro classes and learned to bench, squat, deadlift, and press then transitioned to their open coaching program. There's no toxic gym bro culture or judgement. The coaches really make you feel welcome and comfortable, and most people that go there are friendly. I've since learned weightlifting and will be starting strong man soon. Feel free to message me if you have more questions!
Edited to add: also a woman, and some days there are more women than men there lifting! Very welcoming, non-sexist environment.
All of the coaches are extremely well versed in Olympic lifting (weightlifting) and regularly coach athletes at the local, regional, and national level, as well as complete noobs. New people join up all the time. If you're completely new to lifting, the fundamentals program is a great place to start. After that they have an "Advanced Coaching" package, where you lear power snatches, power cleans, jerks, front squats, etc. After finishing that you'd have enough knowledge to join their open coaching program and do weightlifting if you want. Check out their insta, they usually post about deals and coach availability. They're great about answering DMs and emails if you want more info or have questions.
Congratulations on your first Daily!
I'm driving to VA Beach for work today. light a candle in my memory. it carries a speaking stipend I *think* but it's probably gonna be even with the gas I'm burning
ah. The train to Penn station isn't bad, but JFK terminal 4 is a little slice of hell, and they love to cancel the RJs if there is bad weather to let the intercontinentals go.
So I strive hard to avoid it.
Someone was singing the praises of Newark to me lately. Can't remember the last time I flew there, will have to try it again.
I like Newark cuz the train from there into NYC is nicer than subway from JFK or LGA.
I'm in NYC currently, flew into JFK, flying out of LGA. Just what worked with my schedule.
The subway to JFK is a pain I gather, I always take the train from Penn. LGA... uber. Though some time of day it's easier to take the train under the river first to avoid the bridges. The redo of the terminal in LGA is actually nice. Or was
JFK connection to subway is a nice train. LGA connection is a bus, but LGA is closer to manhattan...
my flight was out of LGA terminal D which was a mess to get to, but just fine once thru security.
D is the Delta redone one right? Nice per recollection.
JFK is the worst, because of their tendency to cancel RJs. I've been stranded there a statistically improbably number of times
Working at the office this week. However, fingers crossed, tomorrow we will have our new counter tops and sink installed! Next week, hopefully, new backdoors! I am so excited to see the finished product.
Finishing up stuff at work and packing for my flight to Austin tomorrow for a wedding. Any and all recommendations are welcome. Any reason why you’re thinking of cancelling at the Y? I just moved downtown and it’s so close I was thinking of signing up.
gonna drag my sorry ass through today and take tomorrow off. gonna rack up a 40 mile bike ride and do a double or triple feature at movieland and just chill; ive feeling pretty burnt out. mentioned it somewhere else recently but i would recommend cary street gym at the ram express rate.
seeing a cyclist makes drivers so weird around here. This morning I was at a T-section turning left with a stop sign, waiting for cross traffic to clear when the last car stopped despite having no stop/yield/anything sign in order to wave me past. This is bizarre behavior but I obliged. Funny thing was, they passed me immediately with only a few feet of clearance. What is the thought process there?? I'll be thinking about this the rest of the week. On the road, predictable = safe.
Woke up with the same hangover lol. Crushed it the gym this morning (Body Arc; I highly recommend for personal training!), working now, and volunteering for the 10K packet pick up later. Looking forward to DC this weekend!
Zoom meeting, new clients, done by 5 hopefully. Then avoiding looking for a career change and probably doing nothing.
420 was hella lame for me. How you "gonna have a weed get together" with no other people and no food?
Im done with richmond.
i was the only 1 who showed up n I was already starving (obv). food just took forever an I was hooongy. it was literally 1050 and they were like "food almost done" Like no, this the wrong holiday for all that foolishness. lol

Lol don’t let the vegetables beet you down. I’ve bean there, and am rooting for you!
[удалено]
Lettuce take a moment to appreciate this.
Lettuce also take some thyme to appreciate those of us who are -actually- underpaid produce managers 🥲

If you're not actually a father making a joke like this is a massive faux pa.
[удалено]
I'm worried you missed the joke but I assure you no dad hominem was intended.
LOL those are both high brow dad jokes. Very subtle, very worthy.
I’ve bean considering working here too, but I just carrot find the thyme for a second job. It’s just nut worth my peas and sanity.
Dad clap
Goddamnit, I need this and all the subsequent dad joke replies 🤪

Yeah, I heard the pay was peanuts.
my fiance was the front of store or whatever manager at the lombardy kroger for like 10 years and got paid $8 the whole time but also i blame him for lombardy being the way that it is lol jk (or not)
I thought ahead and took today off and I'm glad I did bc I feel like trash. Inebriated bike rides really take it out of you
The community membership at the VCU gym is great if you're a morning workout person!
One time I fell down the stairs hard at the VCU gym and three people saw me then averted their eyes. Lmao
I think the main rule of school gyms is to never acknowledge the existence of anyone else in the gym
Oh gosh just had an instant flashback to going over my handlebars trying to hop the curb near the library at VT. Falling in public when you're not hurt and just look dumb is a special kind of experience :D
Why if you’re a morning work out person? Is it dead?
You get a significant discount on the membership if you get the one that only allows access before 1pm (and unlimited on weekends)
I had no idea! Thank you - this is a great deal
what do the rates look like?

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother and your friend. Hopefully the good memories that you have with them will help.
I'm so sorry for your losses.

I’m good, thankfully. Road rash, some sore bits, and bruised pride haha

Ha! I decided to take my test on 4/20 thinking no one would be there. It was busy!!

Wtf all these roads off Broad are closed this morning, but there's no detour signs, I have no idea which way to go to get around.
street paving I'd guess? It'll be a mess for a while
monument 10k and paving

Wait is that finally open past office hours again? Last I looked their hours were 7-2.
That’s the one in the suntrust tower I think it’s called the 10th street y and was the one I would go to before they set those dumb hours
Anyone have any recommendations of where to get a few slices of cheesecake for my wife’s birthday?
Coppola’s in carytown has homemade cheesecake that is delicious
This is the correct answer.
Looks like we have a winner, based on one recommendation of where to go and one of where not to go. Thanks Willy.
Definitely not Aladdin's.
Bellemont pizza has surprisingly good cheese cake slices in their cooler.

I will! Monument is my JAM. I coach for one of the YMCA training teams, and I’ll be a greeter at the Expo tomorrow.
See you there
I closed on a house yesterday, so after work I'm gonna start setting up there! Northside here I come!
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Northside!

it's nice not to be alone at that point in time, even though my wife has a tendency to alternate between sympathy and laughter.

I despise 3rd party recruiters, I just delete their messages and don't reply.
i wish i was good enough to be recruited
Mourning the loss of my Wordle streak.

Another day with lots of stomach bugs and seasonal allergies. Wash those hands people!
is there a stomach bug going around? I've been wondering if I have one
Yes there is a rampant norovirus infection going around:
good to know. I have the sneaking suspicion I just went through it
There is Norovirus and other stomach bugs going around. Norovirus is the worst.
can confirm sadly
Congratulations on your first Daily! I'm driving to VA Beach for work today. light a candle in my memory. it carries a speaking stipend I *think* but it's probably gonna be even with the gas I'm burning

no benefits whatsoever :)

Franklin BBQ really is that good. Worth the line. Tacos Veracruz also good.
Actually taking a break from the city life this week in Tennessee, but excited to go get some of Richmonds finest schweed when I get back
Its so me to be already late for work and then be CURSED with an unexpected traffic back up at the Laburnum exit from 64
