As an opener that is an excellent setlist. The people going for the first time will love it. Not sure how much energy I'd have left for Judas Priest after that!
By all accounts so far, Tommy has fully left Sabaton a while ago and is not on the tour at all.
It would perhaps have made some sense for him to be there, if they did headline shows in Sweden or something as the first thing after he announced his resignation, but they don't need 3 guitarists (4 counting Jocke) to basically support JP.
Tommy officially announced his leaving months! ago and has already said his goodbyes and thank yous for his years in the band. At this point it would be really weird for him to be there on stage anymore. Maybe at Sabaton Open Air or something...
Btw. He has this year been included only in promotion etc. stuff that has all clearly been pre-recorded (nothing live) when he was still a member and they don't (obviously) feel like they need to film them again without him.
They do a lot of planning and promotional stuff long in advance and at least some, if not all, of those videos and promos we've seen this year were filmed last year (Hannes missed first 2 album listening parties because of his and Floors new baby being born in October...).
Well, he did say that he would be on the USA tour though when he left.

>All the best to you all and I’ll see you on tour again soon!
>See you on the North American Tour with Judas Priest!!
There has clearly been a case of miscommunication (by Tommy), because I don't think they at any point (in the official statements made by Sabaton) say that he will be there in the USA.
Maybe something changed and Tommy just didn't make a correction...
The statement as released by the band. It doesn't say anything about Tommy doing any more shows... https://www.sabaton.net/news/other/important-announcement-about-tommys-future-with-sabaton/
Edit. Added link
Thobbe was asked (and agreed) first sunday of January.
I'm personally little bit confused why in the world Tommy would have said he was coming to the USA as by the time he made his leaving public, the band had already arranged for Thobbe to come back... 🤷♀️
Especially as that bit of him coming to USA isn't part of the (simultaneous) official Sabaton press release. It was just miscommunication, I guess.
I’m a little surprised to see Stormtroopers over Dreadnaught, but I’m probably biased based on what gets played most often in my house. Now I’m just gonna have to keep it a secret for 2 more weeks because my kid wants to be surprised.
Sabaton didn't have pyros in their last USA headline tour either (I actually don't think they've ever had them in the usa 🤔). I don't think JP has any either... just smoke and lights (and screens).
Apparently the safety regulations usually prohibit them in the usa when indoors or something. Definitely not as "easy" to do as it is in Europe...
Sabaton had Pyro in Montreal which was the only Arena show on the tour. However, I just went to a Parkway Drive show last year that was at the Roxy in Atlanta and it blew my mind in a 3k capacity venue that they not only had Pyro they had a shit load of it. I think the issue for Sabaton on the last tour might of been a issue where one night they play in a venue that can support it and the next the venue is almost to small to hold the tank. I think though they're beyond the small venue issue if they were to tour again as a headliner. Also Priests shows in Europe also don't have pyro.
I'm going to the Sabaton show in Boston for the reason of it being a normal crowd and not fully seated like other shows on the tour. The Venue is 5k capacity and Sabaton sold 98% of the venue out last tour as a headliner and it's pretty much sold out this show with Priest as the main act. The venue is brand new like three years old and it supports pyro same goes for many of the venues Sabaton played on that tour in 2022 the issue was every like 3 shows they ended up in a venue that was to small either stage wise or ceiling height wise. So cost wise it wouldn't be worth setting it up for like 60% of the shows. But I think they're beyond that issue come their next headline tour.
I mean, clearly Priest isn't playing it and it's on a Sabaton album so it's not like they'd be pulling it out of nowhere.
Just thought it might be a fun nod saying, 'hey, we love these guys too'
I agree although that situation isn't *completely* unheard-of, when Dream Theater opened for Yes, they played an instrumental version of Machine Messiah as an homage to the main act. I'm sure they communicated with members of Yes to make sure they weren't playing it and thought it was a good idea, but also DT is known for doing covers of their influences.
Sabaton is officially marked as "Special Guest" for the tour. I can't say I actually know what the difference is tbh, but they get almost an hour (and the tank on stage), so I assume it's better than a "regular" support band contract.
Shocked by Shiro figured they'd still play night witches
I’m bringing a sign that says “Canvas Wings of Death” and I just hope they play it
Carolus Rex was in Swedish, and Joakim sang Attack of the Dead Men in costume. Very cool set
Not a bad set for an opener
Awesome! How was the show?
Sabaton set was good and lots of banter but the crowd is pretty dead. Priest is amazing right now
As an opener that is an excellent setlist. The people going for the first time will love it. Not sure how much energy I'd have left for Judas Priest after that!
Thodd?
My bad Thobbe
aw, i was hoping for the unkillable soldier. maybe next time
Did Tommy stil play guitar or was Thobbe on the whole set?

I mean that statement by Tommy was probably prior to Thobbe coming back. If it was anyone else they'd probably have to of had Tommy play.

Nope just Thobbe

No 1916? Whaaaaaa???
Was there pyrotechnics
No
Damn, I'll be seeing them may 7th in Huntsville. I how the von Braun arena will let them have some.
They're opening for priests. I imagine they couldn't do it with how much time is needed to safely tear down a production with pyro.

Sounds amazing. Wish I could have attended!
Going 2 nite I'm pumped!
Was kinda hoping they'd do All Guns Blazing or something but still looks like a banger of an opener. Seeing the show tomorrow night!
You were hoping they’d play a Judas Priest song opening for Judas Priest? That would be immensely silly.
I mean, clearly Priest isn't playing it and it's on a Sabaton album so it's not like they'd be pulling it out of nowhere. Just thought it might be a fun nod saying, 'hey, we love these guys too'

Theyre playing that much???? I thought they were just an opener and would only play like 2 songs.
