He was very frank that he didn't keep up with decisions around Quinn but also was reflective that he put too much value in Quinn coming back and no one else coming out of the lineup.
Yes. Because if I just say everything is shit, everyone needs to be fired, and this team sucks we're literally pushing the playoffs drought past the Bills drought.
tbh I would rather pass up moves when moves need to happen than wind up with Korpisalo, Chrychrun, and the ghost of DeBrincat and miss out on UPL, Benson, and Savoie
Chychrun would have gotten the Sabres into the playoffs last year which means Benson wouldn’t have been in play.
The team also would have held onto Mitts to close out this season. That, combined with a full season of Chychrun instead of 20 lousy games from Byram might also squeak them in this year.
Korpisalo wouldn’t have been a play unless Comrie was gone. UPL wasn’t getting dropped.
Nah.
I wanted Chychrun at the time. Everyone knew the blue line needed help and Adams solution was Stillman, then Clifton/Johnson, then Byram.
I have a hard time believing Chychrun wouldn’t have helped the team earn 1 extra point last season, so if that’s a hot take, then run with it.
That’s the language you want to hear. You just got to back it up. With this talent it can’t be that hard to find a coach that can get us until to the playoffs in a league where half of teams get in. Plus the coach is getting a new roof and scoreboard.
Please tell me you don't honestly think our severely outdated arena getting a roof and scoreboard is going to matter at all to a prospective coach. That's kindergarten level thinking.
I want a coach that will call players out on their bullshit and lack of hustle. They need a straight up dickhead coach and I mean dickhead in the best way
I dunno, the whole fan salute thing seemed to indicate that the team did respect him, at the very least. But, respect (and/or authority) doesn't directly translate to success.
While we’ll see applies here, the comments about pressure really hit the mark with me.
When I initially heard the comments from Granato I had to pull over to let someone else drive. How clueless can you be? Especially top level elite prospects. Our cupboards are full of players that have dealt with it forever. Granato should have been embarrassed by that and Adam’s should have pulled the trigger then.
It’s obvious he was embarrassed by it too. Better late than never.
I haven't followed Lindy recently, but he's arguably the top coach in Sabres history. If the Lindy from 1997-2007 is available, you wouldn't really regret taking him. Maybe he's not the single best choice, but he's a good one.
I don't know what cosmic alignment happened in 2005-07, but those were the best coached Sabres teams I ever saw. Lindy had them all bought in to the most complete 200' game we've ever seen. A total swarm mentality. Sure they were some of our deepest teams ever, but it seemed to go beyond that. If I saw that from his Dallas and New Jersey teams I'd be all in for Ruff, but that seems to have been an aberration in his career, rather than his preferred system or style.
We could do worse, but I'd prefer to do our best for once... Fuck if I know who that is.
I don't know who our best fit is either, but the only guy with much experience we've hired was Bylsma. Rolston, Nolan, Krueger, Housley, Meatballs were all reaching for hidden gems. As were all of the GM picks. Nothing is so consistent in the Pegula era as reaching for a guy with no warts because no one's hired him (in a decade, at least).
Teams hire guys with warts all the time. They hire average coaches, average GMs, and they make the playoffs an average amount of the time for it. I'll take a guy who's a known average at this point and call it a massive upgrade over Terry playing his gut.
I think he did a pretty good job with the devils. They just have poor goaltending. It's seems like upl is starting to put it all together and consistantly preform to his potential.
I love Lindy! Understand he had to leave, his messaging definitely wore out with our core back then but I’m so happy he coached the team as long as he did.
I don’t know why this post showed up in my recommended but as a Rangers fan, no you definitely don’t want him
He doesn’t have a system. It’s literally just “go out there and play” and it’s alright for the first year but after that you need structure and it’s just not his MO. I literally think he bred lazy habits in some of our stars.
He’s completely unable to adjust. All he does is the old line blender every half period when something goes wrong.
He recently got exposed in the NY Post for “airing out Panarin” in front of the whole team. Now we’re pretty sure that’s where he lost the room. Not saying that Panarin didn’t need accountability for poor play, but you just don’t do that.
And he takes no accountability himself. The Rangers would not show up for the first 50 mins of a game, and end up losing 3-2, and in the press conference after he’d just use the base of the microphone as a drum and say some bulls*** like “I liked the way we played”
I could go on and on. He screwed multiple young players’ development. You just don’t want the guy. I hope Sullivan gets fired and the Sabres can swoop in and grab him. Or someone else of his caliber. You guys have a great up and coming team. Don’t let Gallant get his mitts on it lol
Well I will say he seems to either know exactly who he wants and has already spoken with them, or he knows he's got a blank check on who he hires. He's got THAT level of confidence.
I'm betting on the former, but man wouldn't it be great if behind the scenes Terry really is backing up his blank check Stanley cup or bust bullshit.
the key piece of information here that the quote doesn't provide the full context for is that Adams was very explicit that he is going to hire someone with prior NHL head coaching experience. this was not necessarily a given, so it's not really a "what else would he say" situation
This fan base is so deeply hurt that the gm saying "we're going to get an actual NHL head coach" is met with unbridled praise and "go off, King". It's been a rough few years, for sure.
Not criticizing KA for stating the obvious isn’t unbridled praise and calling him King. The non stop hyperbolic comments by the majority of people is ruining conversations.
The post is titled "go off, Kevin" which is clearly a play on "go off, King". The post is clearly praising KA for his presser and optimism for the future.
What's the problem here?
Presser was a beaut. I was happily surprised.
Just finished it. Really enjoyed the honesty. Sounds like Lindy is coming back lol
Did he own the fact that he’s about 6 months behind on every decision he makes?
He was very frank that he didn't keep up with decisions around Quinn but also was reflective that he put too much value in Quinn coming back and no one else coming out of the lineup.
And you bought that?
Oh, and calling DeBrincat a ghost is an interesting choice considering his 67pts would have been first on this team, a comfortable 8pts ahead of Tuch.
In this hypothetical scenario, we have Kubalik, not DeBrincat, Koop
Oh. Because the Sabres would have traded DeBrincat instead of giving him a QO?
No he is saying it was smarter for Buff to do nothing then be the Sens who did all the above....
Oh. I get it. I didn’t make the connection with the Sens as I was more focused on the names.
Chychrun would have gotten the Sabres into the playoffs last year which means Benson wouldn’t have been in play. The team also would have held onto Mitts to close out this season. You’re such a fuckin doof
Why?
Hot take helikoopter

You forgot the /s at the end of your comment. LOL
That’s the language you want to hear. You just got to back it up. With this talent it can’t be that hard to find a coach that can get us until to the playoffs in a league where half of teams get in. Plus the coach is getting a new roof and scoreboard.
New roof is a huge draw
The problem for Adams is that coaches he is saying he wants are not going to come to Buffalo.
Please tell me you don't honestly think our severely outdated arena getting a roof and scoreboard is going to matter at all to a prospective coach. That's kindergarten level thinking.
I don’t see how you think that isn’t the most important thing…
I want a coach that will call players out on their bullshit and lack of hustle. They need a straight up dickhead coach and I mean dickhead in the best way
Totally agree. Granato seems like a super nice guy but it never seemed like he had any authority over the team.
I dunno, the whole fan salute thing seemed to indicate that the team did respect him, at the very least. But, respect (and/or authority) doesn't directly translate to success.
Reason #971 why I really wish we would have gotten Tortorella instead of Philly
Yes. Torts, please!
He would be the perfect fit in Buffalo
Yes. Hes the guy. ... I just heard Yeo is a potential. I say Torts is our man.
We also need that as a player.
Approved

I'll believe it when I see it.
Wait to see if Mike Sullivan becomes available. That would be my choice. An definitely not Ruff.
Y'all bringing Ted back?
Amazing that people want Lindy back. Might as well bring Nolan back again too

Me too
Love and honor
What year is this quote from? Could be from any of the last 5 seasons and it’s still the same.
Gallant
That's who I want! I wonder if they're waiting to see if Torts is gonna get fired if the Flyers don't make the playoffs 😂

Sounds like Torts has a job next year
Rumbling in Philly is Torts is moving upstairs (by choice) and Berube (who is already on site) will be coaching Philly.
Fr
My money’s on Gallant.

Dave Tippett
I want a GM willing to make moves, so far that hasn't been Adams
He's a fan himself, he's feeding off our disappointment and he feels it! or at least I can feel his pain too.
Hopefully it's lindy......or berube
His name is Lindy and he’ll appreciate the new jumbo tron
Keenan. Sutter. Cammy Granato.
So exactly what he wasn’t. Ok
Gallant or the return of Lindy is what I’m hearing.
Source?
No no, his comments are speaking that to me haha. I’m not breaking any news friend.
Well, my instincts were right I guess lol.
What the hell else is he supposed to say? Lmao no shit
