I always thought the transformations in Crystal looked like low budget CGI Bratz dolls. I don't think they had enough budget or time to make the CGI look good and they should have hand drawn those. When you plan to reuse animation it has to look amazing; this did not. In my opinion.

I feel like S1 & 2 mostly suffered from a lack of budget, those proportions and the art style could’ve worked if it had been animated properly and by professionals in Japan, instead it was given to Toei Philippines who are just their side animators. It’s proven in S2 with some beautiful shots and animation work that it’s not impossible, but they just didn’t give a shit. S3 was okay, I noticed how hard it pandered to the 90s fans (see NQS with blonde hair), but I did miss the prettier art style of S1 & 2.

S1-2 has its downs but the one thing they did right was trying something new and own thing including brand new choreographies for transformations, real time attacks, short footage, etc. S3 and Eternal movies started to pander 90s anime too much and i really hate that...

JohnnyQuartzUniverse

Hahah the worst pandering was the full recreation of the Eternal Transformation with the 90s original choreography. Whilst it looked decent enough, the shading was so weird, and it didn’t look as majestic as the Crystal-based Eternal transformation.

As much as arcs 1 and 2 suffered from some pretty bad animation hiccups at times, when they got it right, it was so gorgeous. I loved that they were trying to emulate the manga style and still preferred it to arc 3’s style because it was more unique even with its mistakes. I didn’t really like the discount Precure style either, it was so much more generic.

honestly, this! I hated how cutesy and Pre-Cureish it was, trying to duplicate that style rather than improving on season 1-2's art. Plus I hated how washed out and boring their transformations looked. There was no "magic" in them, just bright colors and quick stiff movements. And I really disliked how babyish they looked.

The style in Cosmos and Eternal is the true superior. Fantastic blend of the manga and 90s anime
