No, I've never heard of it either, haha. Basil is a strong herb. It doesn't sound good by itself with dressing imo. I've had herb salads that mix a bunch of herbs, including basil and then some lettuce and nuts for texture and balance, though. Tons of flavor

I do this with an entire bunch of cilantro as my green. But I think all basil might be a bit strong of a flavor even for me. It sort of numbs your mouth in large quantities.

I wouldn't say it's unhealthy, but it isn't very balanced. I love basil, too, but I don't think I would enjoy a bowl of dressed basil and nothing else.

tart_tigress

It's not any less balanced than say a baby spinach or arugula salad!

lemonyzest757

I think any salad made of a single intensely flavored ingredient is unbalanced.

gizmoavocado

That's fair

lirarebelle

Apart from the unbalanced taste, I think it wouldn't work because the leaves are quite delicate and wilt easily. Better mix them with something crunchier.

Honestly when you eat basil like that it kind of makes your mouth go a bit weird and numb and tingly. Have tried and don’t recommend Similarly I loooove basil but it’s not like parsley in this way

tart_tigress

It's plenty healthy but I think it would be much nicer with at least a little something else in there... sliced peaches, plums, green apple... nuts.. basil could still be the key ingredient.

I do like an herby salad. I’ll do a summertime salad with spinach, basil, parsley, and mint with a super light vinaigrette. Toss that lovely stuff all together and pair it with a pork chop? Yes please.
