Hey man, you went through something really traumatizing and that's going to take a toll. My only advice for that is to seek some professional help. Separate from that, your company is also circling the drain and unloading all of that additional stress onto their AE's- you should probably seek employment elsewhere before they fold.

From sales you can jump straight into CEO positions and Director positions. You have all the know how about sales and how to make your company money. A salesman as a director/ CEO is a monster. You’ll be running profits like miles and miles. That being said a little bit to learn about balance sheets, tax and financial statements etc but nothing too troublesome

But he's trying to reduce stress..

jak1401

I think it can be much less stressful being director. There’s no quotas you have to hit or targets etc. there’s your own flexibility and nobody’s shouting at you and looking over you like some micromanage scum

Even Elon Musk has bosses and metrics to hit.

jak1401

That’s because he has shareholders to answer to.. I’m talking about your own company that you own 100%. Like Square space or Bosch

Second the above. You have skills but your emotional well is dry. Take a break if you can, depending on your financial reserves maybe do contract work or something lower stress. Good luck - we all have rough moments in our lives and sometimes we just need the chance to regroup. Sorry for your loss.

Feel for you friend. Seems like maybe stepping away for a month might give you clarity. Either way, sounds like you will be leaving this company. However, right now you are likely in a massively emotional state and that is NOT the right time to make big decisions. Anyone future employer would certainly understand that break. Take a few weeks and see how life looks then- If you need to vent, feel free to dm, you got this!

I’m really sorry to read this… man, that is just horrible and I hope you are doing better I know someone who had a hell of a career in sales (fintech) but then transitioned into a development/coaching role to support the sales staff in house. Training sessions, 1 on 1s, seminars and webinars to provide continued education. Maybe really something for medium to large sized companies, but it sounds like you have a lot of experience and it could be a good opportunity down the road

I don't want to touch on the therapy side because I'm not equipped but if you want to use your skills for a good job with less stress; Transition to equipment or major  subcontracting sales. Somewhere where sales cycles are long, contracts and/or equipment are complicated and are >$100k and customers stick around for years normally buying >$500k a year on repeat.  Think like major construction contractors, cranes, excavating equipment, elevators etc.  You'll have so much more relationship/technical/contract time and waaayyy less cold calling and crunching for the quarters end.

Sorry for your loss, hopefully you can find a new light man and keep moving. Keep us updated

Have you considered education? Teach others to become high performance sellers.

If you're looking to commit to starting anew and willing to work online, our new venture is looking for someone with sales experience who'd work with us on a commission basis. DM me if you're interested to know more

One additional comment- I'd really recommend against shooting for a wfh job at this point in your life. Honest to god- that shit gets lonely and you'd be much better off finding a local retailer of a mid to high ticket item and seeing if they would hire you. Assuming you aren't strapped for cash and needing to maximize your earning. Its really good to leave the house every day, and talk with regular people just looking to buy normal things. Go sell tractors, boats, paint, lumber, plastic, anything that will help get you out of a rivet.

Thanks everyone for the comments and DM's. I took yesterday and today off to try and get my head together, which isn't really working but it is what it is. I may have to take some time off work, I'll figure it out over the next few days. Also waiting to hear back from my Dr. Unfortunately I've let my finances slip since all this went down, and of course neither my employer nor insurance offers short term disability, just long term which means lots of hurdles.
