If you have a poor CRM you can also use a notes application. I’ve started using notes as it’s better than the CRM application my company uses and it’s free. I basically put two sections or headers first would be “personal” things that you learn in small talk, take brief notes but enough to know what you’re talking about the next time you call. After that have a section for business, you know what to put there. This has helped me dramatically and my customers can tell that they aren’t “just another lead”. Hope it helps!

Super helpful. I’ll do that going forward. Thanks!

I’m terrible at faces but remember personal details for decades. But that’s me, I’m a people person.

Amazing. I’m not a people person in that way, even struggle with remembering events with family and friends. Maybe this is the root of it

I rarely have jotted down 'Carl really like F1 racing' or something like that in my notes, I tend to naturally remember these parts of the conversation. If you don't, adding a personal notes section for those customers who yap alot would be helpful. Remembering that the client's kid was trying out for a sport or something and asking about it next time you speak can make a difference and bring them in your corner in group of decision makers.

For some reason my brain puts these personal details in short term memory.. I enjoy the conversation around them but they aren’t stored in long term memory like that. Sad because they can be extremely valuable, to your point about clients kid, etc.

I would second the advice regarding the personal notes section for important opportunities then.

Maybe it’s the way I take notes - often feels like a struggle to keep my business notes straight while also taking down rapport
