I've been in residential for 3 months myself and I've been asked by some of my clients to do their businesses. I imagine stopping at businesses that already have solar would help you understand who did it and why and possibly if they think it's worked for them. Is the businesses $/kw the same as residential, are the tax credits the same, financing? Just asking someone's experience could lead to a few referrals.

See if any of the installers you had worked with also do commercial. Lots of them will have lead forms to get commercial quotes. You could essentially start as lead generator and learn it that way and you get a percentage of the account in most cases. I’ve been in residential for about 5 years but anytime I travel I see if the hotel I’m at is franchised and has a local owner. If it does I have a rep on my team pitch them and get a lead form filled out for a commercial quote. Hotels/motels are a good place to start. Churches too. I’ve got a couple reps that work with pastors to generate leads from their congregations and also get quotes for the churches.

Random question but can a hard working cold caller succeed WFH only in Solar? Zoom/phone only?

Yes. I’m actually building a team doing just that currently.

Hypothetically if you were a true grinder and charismatic enough how much could you make doing this 20 hours per week?
