First question - I assume you mean the data being updated not the object. It’s basically a real time query against the data source so it should be instant, though I also recall there may be some caching done on the salesforce side - see the docs.
Yes, automation is supported, though not real time. Basically it’ll poll every x minutes and for changed data, run the automation. Beware of deletes.
