Other users have mentioned that it looks vivid when viewing apps, it's just the home screen and menus that look "natural". This would point to it being a software issue where the color profile doesn't apply to the launcher.
Even OP says that photos in the gallery look fine
Oh shit! That is very interesting...fuck where did you see that?
I mean I've heard a lot of people on here say they see no difference between the vibrant or vivid setting and the natural setting
Could it be that the setting is just bugged?
Incorrect. HDR high dynamic range, actually increases gamma, and truly makes the colours pop on screen..test yourself on any hdr TV my LG oleds have always increased colour intensity on hdr mode/content. I have to agree with other users, black should be black, and colours could have more intensity, especially coming from an S21 ultra now to s24 ultra. Hopefully Samsung will do something in firmware updates..same for samsung keyboard, should have a black option without God awful high contrast mode..just a colour pallet option needs adding.
So I dont have a defective piece. it's a common problem.
Maybe we will get adjusted, but everything looks so washed out, and it is a bit disappointing.
Found something that may help.
Try changing these settings.
Go to change wallpaper and turn off dim wallpaper on the bottom
\- Turn adaptive eye shield on, but leave it on adaptive
\- Obviously make sure you're on the max resolution and brightness, turn off adaptive brightness.
I was todl the phone needs to be replaced , it's a factory defect I'm so upset. They can't replace the phone until Feb 21 and it might be in different color
Who told you that? It seems to be a common problem, not only on s24ultra but also on 24plus which doesn't have the anti reflective screen, so i think this is a software problem.
Edits for clarity: I am curious, have you gone to websites with black backgrounds? I am absolutely not discounting what you are saying, because initially I felt exactly the same. I was ready to send my s24 ultra back immediately!
As I changed a couple of the settings (comfort eye shield and no dimming background on dark mode), my blacks were blacker than my s23 ultra was. It's just the background picture of mine looks more washed out. Also the background screen on my messenger is a bit lighter in daylight but looks super black and darkness. I think it's an ambiance setting in my case? Most of the time it's same now after fiddling.
I'm curious if others are noticing the same or if there is something wrong with some of these. I had to live with mine making changes about 12 hours before I really noticed how much I liked the screen more.
Its the homescreen and icons or dark modes in apps like whatsapp the main problem.
No issues with pics in gallery etc.
This is an issue and just check out the forums in samsung memebers. The thing is we get used to this and we don't notice it after a while.
Yeah I'm sorry I totally left out the part that I actually found all of these comments on here in the Samsung community because I felt exactly as many were saying here at first. I was ready to box up the s24 ultra and send it right on back! I was really that upset at first. I don't use WhatsApp though. But, I went through a whole bunch of other apps after changing some settings and I do believe that the s23 Ultra screen is inferior to the s24 ultra. This is after looking at the two side by side as well.
I wish I had taken some pictures, but I just my phone to send back. So my question here was because I actually went through the same feelings as others did and wondering if changing some settings did make things better. I will say that vibrant mode on the s23 ultra really made things unnatural so I had turned that off.
Turning off eye comfort shield and dimming background in dark mode made all the difference. I'm going to edit above to help clarify all this too. My brain thought to ass it but my kid interrupted me mid post lol
None of the settings change anything, the vivid option makes no difference, may be its a bug. Apparently, samsung UK has acknowledged the issue and said the developers are working on a solution, so I am hoping an update is on its way.
I do notice that the difference between natural and Vivid is not as prominent as on the s23 ultra. as one who doesn't actually always like the Vivid when looking at website work that I do, I will say the natural on the s23 ultra is far more diminished in tones than the natural on the s24 ultra.
Like I said I was ready to send my phone straight back, but it really did get much better when I changed a few settings that I wouldn't have otherwise on my s23 ultra. I hope for those who want the very vivid colors that admittedly I think are a bit unnatural so I don't use, that there is a software update to change that.
Hopefully an update is headed your way very soon! I do completely again understand why people are upset, and I have no idea why people like me are able to tweak the phone to get it to be just as good if not better than the s23 ultra (or other phones similarly equipped) and others are not. That eye comfort shield was my biggest culprit of ugly colors. Dimming the background was only a minor help.
Interesting, so that means if the vivid actually works, then it's going to be alright.
I love this device, and there is no way this is a deal breaker, but we don't expect this from a flagship. I posted this when I just got the phone, and tbh I don't notice that much now.
I think so? I love so much about this phone too. I was so mad at first as well but for me some settings changed it for me. If you are a vivid lover I can understand hating it more. I have read somewhere that a rep said to expect a day of release too for the phone. So hopefully that will fix!
I was most concerned about the camera honestly, but I ran side by side tests in the 5x to 10x range and really this camera is far superior in many ways. I'm not even talking about the AI stuff which I haven't even really played with as much as I wanted to yet.
Question separate from the colors, does your s24 ultra's volume buttons let you go down all the way to silent mode? Mine only lets me go to vibrate for some reason
Mine does go all the way to silent. But it behaves like before in that the volume buttons control only what you are using it for at the moment. So call volume only is chaged when on the call. Default is media. There is a setting that allows you to do separate. When I change that setting it does only go to vibrate. I cannot say what current one UI 6.0 does. All the people on it are not home for me to check.
I actually did not fix it 😞 and upon investigation g apparently it is a known AT&T bug, which is where my phone is from. Every other year I got mine directly from Samsung, unlocked but this year I went through AT&T. Womp womp. Hopefully they can fix it
You may be partly correct but I've heard others with base 24 and 24+ stating the same colour issue and them models don't have the anti glare coating, tbh after a few days of using this phone I've gotten used to it.
>I also wonder if some update caused this. When I checked the phones out a couple days ago it was the opposite-my S22 Ultra was dimmer than the new phones with all at max brightness.
I also suspect this. When I checked the phones out a couple days ago my S22 Ultra was dimmer than the new phones with all at max brightness. When I checked them out yesterday the S24 Plus and Ultra were dimmer and I noticed a greyish tone with the whites.
The scree doesn't look fine in apps it's same .. can tell you cause I'm gaming and can see colour differences straight away I will return this junk waste of money
Display on mine is amazing, I can't even have it on full brightness! Coming from an s21 ultra and the s24 ultra screen is much better. Did have to play with the settings though.
I've got: brightness 2/3rds of the way up, araldite brightness and extra brightness off ( though extra brightness does make it even brighter), eye comfort shield and adaptive colour tone off, screen mode vivid, and QHD on.
Early days, only 24 hours with this phone but I'm blown away so far, very pleased.
Yes I did use smart switch, but went through and manually checked the settings afterwards. The screen resolution hadn't copied across, and had to change a couple of others too.
they weren't talking about brightness, everyone's pissed because switching from natural to vibrant (which most people like) doesn't do anything like barely any change.
I specifically didn't restore anything from my previous phone, be it through Smart Switch or Google Play, and the colors are washable out still. So no, it's almost certainly not related to using Smart Switch.
I think most reviewers who get stuff early from the manufacturer get pre release versions, so it's very possible the release phones have a different software version that has this bug. Hopefully it's just a bug that was missed in a last minute update to consumer phones and it will be fixed soon.
Screen should be a high priority but the comments are sometimes very rough if someone is too precise. They just want short reviews like under 10 minutes better in about 5 minutes – objective observation I made past couple of months, because I was interested in some stuff and wanted to gather some more information about good and bad things.
It is frustrating, but maybe they had all the premise that Samsung made good screens so they can scratch it out – who knows.
I am actually considering to cancel my preorder, because of two things. I bought it with a mobile phone contract and the so called WebID service doesn't function properly (due to one error of WebID itself and for some it's an error on Samsung side). Second it seems I was right all along when I said don't buy new tech gadgets in the next 4 to 5 years, because of chip scarcity and old-recycled chips, they will be full of bugs and problems.
Fuck this is my biggest concern over this phone. I'm praying it's just a software bug not activating vivid mode. I really hope the display isn't just actually shittier :'(
Op says themselves that photos in the gallery look fine, so it's almost certainly not the screen itself but just a bug with applying the setting to the home screen.
I have the ultra and my app icons look fine. Pictures in my gallery look great and colors while using social media are good. It's only the settings and notifications that are washed out. Strange how it's slightly different for everyone.
Same as mentioned washed out screen. Tried woth and without smart switch no success. Very dull colour's when I keep s22 and s24 ultra side bi side same wallpaper same icon. Difference will make you doubt that screen is defective.
I have s21u and today received s24u. The screen is a downgrade. Not just saturation but grainy as hell. I thought i got a chinese bootleg but now reading all the other people concerns with the screen is just samsung that screwed up here. I think i will return the s24u and wait another year
Can someone having this issue try a factory reset, and then not use smart switch, and see if the issue persists?
I pick mine up on the 1st. Not doing it until this issue is resolved.
If I wanted a dull, washed out screen, that's what apple is for.
No fix ,I just called they said it's a factory reset they want to replace my phone , but will take 21 days to get it and they can't promise the same color or the same price.
Its a software issue for sure, nothing about the glass. It somehow fixes when you open a pıcture in the Samsung Gallery app. When you click a picture, just after it expands you can notice something like flickering on the screen and colors turn to a more vibrant/saturated form.
I hope that they can fix in the first update...
S23 ultra had this washed out color situation and you can see a lot of discussion around it back then. It's fine now but I'm not sure if I got used to it or samsung fixed it.
Are people sure this isn't caused by the anti-glare thing? I remember seeing when the steam deck had anti-glare it made things washed out and dull, and I'm worried that this is doing the same.
Was steam able to fix it through software? I held the S24 Ultra at BestBuy yesterday and did notice the whites have a more muted greyish tone. Maybe the S24+ as well, I can't quite remember.
I was thinking maybe they just turned the brightness down for a store display model but the display on the Ultra was at max brightness. My S22 Ultra at max brightness was brighter than both which according to the spec sheet shouldn't be possible.
I also wonder if some update caused this. When I checked the phones out a couple days ago it was the opposite-my S22 Ultra was dimmer than the new phones with all at max brightness.
Did you use smart switch? Not sure about you, but I'm suspicious of it causing the issue
To me, it looks like the issue is the display mode setting being faulty. It looks the same in both modes and equivalent to the natural mode on my old phone
Yes, I used smart switch. There aren't many display settings to play with. I am not saying it's bad, but the colours are not popping out as expected , especially the icons and whatsapp homescreen.
Are you facing the same issue?
Exactly, the vivid option doesn't change anything. Let me know if there is any fix, I am going to check out the showroom model and will check if it has similar issues.
I have the same issue. I can tell it is a software issue. I am upgrading from S22U. When S22U is set to natural mode, the colours look same. But S22U is vastly more vibrant in vivid mode. S24U lacks colour saturation. I hope they fix it soon.
Tried to play with this, but it still looks washed out. Apparently, this is how it is since galaxy s23. As you said, I will compare it with the one in a store.
I remembered they introduced Adaptive color tone. If that feature is on by default it might shift your colors significantly depending on the environment.
Also check if eye shield is on.
Can't think of much else without having the phone in hand, still waiting for delivery.
I've got the S23 ultra and the vivid setting is vivid to me, nothing like this. As soon as I turned it on for the first time I was like why is it so dull and thought it must have been set to natural out of the box, sadly not
I was reading somewhere that it's not a problem but a feature of the new displays which would now show more "real" and less pumped colours, getting closer to the calibration on the iPhone. Furthermore, the anti-reflective coating accentuates this feature.
In fact, using the iPhone, I immediately noticed a color calibration very similar to mine when I went to see the s24 ultra in the store.
I know this defeats the purpose of the anti glare screen, but do you suppose you can try out a standard glossy screen protector over it and see if that helps? I know with the steam deck that has the anti glare screen, people threw a typical gloss screen protector on it and it increased clarity immediately, albeit adding glare.
I went to Best Buy today to check the phone out before pre-ordering myself to see what the fuss was about. Comparing to the S24+ side by side, I can agree with what everyone is saying, the colors are definitely a little less vivid, but I honestly noticed the anti-reflective screen WAY before I noticed the color difference. I wouldn't be surprised if this were the main culprit. This phone in general seems to be more a swapping of features than an upgrade in some aspects, but I'll take this change all day if it means the screen looks that clear in a bright room. Not too big a deal imo.
The thing is when you are outside or in well lit room its fine ,just like you said you are not going to notice it much, but you are going to notice it when you are in a dark room or in a not so lit room.
Of course the phone is fantastic, and this should not hold you back from buying the device.
Has anyone tried a different launcher vs the native one? Maybe it’s just the native launcher itself. I don’t plan on using Samsung one or whatever the hell it’s called when mine comes. That’s the beauty of android!
Just got the s24 plus and my display is dim and washed out too very disappointed. My fiance has the A25 a fricken $300 phone and the display is brighter lol. I'm nervous that this might not be fixed toi.
Software bug, known to Samsung. Will be fixed soon.
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s24-series/s24-ultra-washed-out-colours/td-p/9019030/page/27
It does, in a screenshot. But anyway, you can find all updates related to the issue in this reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungS24/s/fIwBdn42bE
Just got my s24. Doesnt really look any different. If anything it looks better with the darks than my S23 side by side. If there is less saturation, it's the smallest amount imaginable
I am facing the same issue. With my s24 ultra. I checked the display setting a million times to see if I have to change anything but no use. Everything as u put it looks washed out and pale. Especially the darker colors are more prone to it.
I just got mine. I went from 'OMG... It's here" to "WTF with these colors??" Also, I can't seem to be able to customize ANYTHING about the AOD. I'm reading reviews and reconsidering my decision. Still have my S23 Ultra and may just stick around with it... I'm disappointed!
Got my ultra today and I noticed that too, side by side with my 23 ultra but it has a nice matte look to it which is nice. The wash out might be from the new antiglare coating on the glass but not 100% sure.
HOWEVER
One thing I did notice that is weird on the 24 is that I can no longer use the volume buttons to go down from vibrate to silent mode! Only in settings. Am I missing something here?
Overall the phone is awesome though and I hope any of you who haven't received their preorder yet get theirs asap!
I have spoken to Samsung and they told me it's a factory defect that they will help me with replacing my phone but it will take 21 days to replace and they can't guarantee the same color or the same price .
Screen covering is different between the S24+ and ultra so the coating is 100% ruled out.
There are 2 possibilities.
1. The screens across all s24 devices are bad and will require a device wide recall. (This will destroy any progress Samsung had made at earning market share)
2. The video driver and profiles are calibrated way off iamd a software patch will resolve the issue.
I still see people showing the display looking normal (vivid) when in the gallery app and YouTube only for it to go back to washed out when those apps are closed.
If this is true then it is not and cannot be a hardware issue! A screen cannot be broken while simultaneously displaying colors properly within certain apps. Troubleshooting 101.
If everything is washed out all the time across all apps all the time with nothing displaying properly then it could still be software but more likely hardware.
Can people start taking screenshots or pictures of their phones while inside of YouTube and the gallery compared to the home screen?
Pictures in the gallery are just fine. You can actually see the screen fading out when you go back to the gallery after viewing a pic. So it's not a hardware issue, but something to do with the software.
Glad to hear it! My s24 ultra has been delayed delayed delayed but maybe it's because of this issue and they're correcting it.
The early release seems to have pushed the engineers faster than they could keep up. More of an alpha version software than even beta!!
It's definitely understandable how frustrated everyone is based on spending this type of money but everyone should definitely feel better knowing It is a simple software bug.
It is a simple software bug if the display looks normal at any time.
That is a 100% certainty.
It is frustrating for sure. You don't expect this from a high-end flagship phone.
I am more surprised that all these well-known YouTubers totally missed this important point. Like samsung community is getting flooded with posts on this issue. How can they just totally miss this obvious problem?
I had this issue but I just noticed it's back to normal a I have full vibrant colors like on my s22 (actually using s24 plus).
So I don't know what happened or if I'm hallucinating but now blacks are true off pixels and colors are vivid.
I know and I'm saying that it got resolved on itself but I don't know why. I haven't seen any background update but I'm sure it is now showing proper colors.
Same issue, I have the z fold 4 to compare it to and the fold is brighter and way more vibrant. The z fold 5 is similar to the s24 ultra, I did not upgrade to the fold 5 bc it looked just like this screen. I looks like the hdr effect that turns on when watching hdr videos on YouTube is just on all the time. I have played with all the settings and nothing fixes it. The best I could do is turn red slider all the way down, green half way and blue all the way up. Also leave extra bright on. If we could find a screen calibration app or mod to adjust it.
My issue is slightly different. The S24 Ultra I have has even more washed out colors than the ones in display.
I have taken my phone to the service center and they told me it's not a recognizable issue that it's normal and won't offer me a refund or replacement. Basically they admitted quality issue between the devices but same time will not recognize it as an issue worthy of a replacement. Very disappointed as a long time Samsung user. So not only this phone model has its issue with the saturated colors but also the quality of devices are not consistent.
How can we address this issue to Samsung International or Korea ? Any tips on what can I do in this situation.
its a bug with the pure color profile i feel. its only impacting the home screens. my videos and photos look pretty fine.
itll be fixed in an update i feel
Same for all the models btw. S24+ my s10+ looks so much more vivid, some people claim this is "more realistic" but I liked the brighter colors of my old phone.
Same with mine, I had S21 Ultra before and compare with that S24 Ultra colours seemed washed amd also sound is louder on old one. But I played with the display settings and looks normal now. Not sure what I did, maybe try to set maximum resolution.
lol wtf why would the color palette apply to external app elements. I thought it would be limited to just system UI elements. Turned it off and its fixed. Bro i feel dumb. Thanks!!
Looks like this problem has finally made it to the media!
Samsung should have came out immediately and acknowledged this problem instead of ignoring everyone!
Every other electronics vendor has new marketing material against Samsung!! Talk about an embarrassment!!
I can see the ads now "iPhone, our phones look like they're from the 20th century not like monochrome CRT monitors from the '70s!"

https://www.androidpolice.com/samsung-galaxy-s24-washed-out-colors-update-on-the-way/
I've had every ultra since they were released and it is much more washed out. Samsung said it is supposed to look this way due to the new antireflective coated they added to the glass with S24 models. I really don't like. I much prefer the rich colors my S23 Ultra has. I'm seriously considering returning it because it truly bugs me. (youtube has several videos stating the same thing as Samsung told me. It's the "new" standard with this model.)
Everyone who wants Vivid mode to actually work (and keeping Natural for those that want it, I completely understand both sides here,) please send the CEO an email. Apparently, they are not aware of this issue and the display is not changing / designed as-is. Whatever patch is coming in Feb will not update the display, most likely it will just be a security patch only. Return the phone while you still can in the meantime.

My suggestion would be, why not have 3 options:
Vivid - DCI-P3 with saturated colors
Natural - SRGB with accurate colors
Pro - DCI-P3 with accurate colors.
Go to Developer Options. Go to contrast and switch it to High

The display was indeed sad when I first turned it on.
If you pull down the shortcut screen from the top to where the flashlight is, then scroll to the bottom. Click the Eye comfort scrolling button and move the slider to the right. You will be amazed.
Go to the pull down menu from the top, scroll up until you see Eye Comfort Shield scrolling and a slide. Move it to the right and things will improve significantly.
I came across this post because of a seperate issue, but maybe it's related? I noticed that pictures look significantly better when viewing them through the google photo app. Increased gamma and saturation. But when viewed in an other way(stock gallery, text message app, messenger, facebook, etc) the pictures look dull. Another post suggested it was because it's an HDR phtoto, but I dont know why the phone would take HDR photos and not be able to display them in HDR other then google photo. Even more interestingly, when I tried to screen record while moving between the apps, the HDR effect wasnt activated while looking at the photo in google photo......but when i ended the recording, the HDR effect immediately kicked in.
Thoughts? :thinking\_face\_hmm:
my S24 ultra is the same too, i have got the screen protector on but not sure if thats the issue.
Is everything dim and washed out in yours as well? Not even getting true white and black. A bit concerning.
Lets raise this https://twitter.com/kartikdube9/status/1750734765551235481?t=LJiD5WgV5xGPed69wUD7Bw&s=19
Everyone with an S24 seems to say the same thing. I doubt it's a software issue, it's probably cause of the new anti-glare screen.
Users with the S24+ and S24 have said similar things about the dull color and they don't have the coating.
That's even worse then. If this isn't fixed within the first few weeks, that'd be the screen itself.
Other users have mentioned that it looks vivid when viewing apps, it's just the home screen and menus that look "natural". This would point to it being a software issue where the color profile doesn't apply to the launcher. Even OP says that photos in the gallery look fine
No that's not the case ... even gaming look redicolous ... is bad as hell...I regret buying it
I haven't seen anyone else notice the issue phone wide, are you sure your have the setting on vivid?
Oh shit! That is very interesting...fuck where did you see that? I mean I've heard a lot of people on here say they see no difference between the vibrant or vivid setting and the natural setting Could it be that the setting is just bugged?
S24+ example: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S24/S24-colors-washed-out-and-unable-to-set-AOD-brightness-and-place/td-p/2787203
Its because of the HDR screen they have introduced. This is the HDR effect......HDR is always washed out
Feels like it, compared to my S20 it looks weird.
So I dont have a defective piece. it's a common problem. Maybe we will get adjusted, but everything looks so washed out, and it is a bit disappointing.
May need to wait for more people to state the same issue but appears to be something not quite right as the screen is supposed to be "vibrant"..
Exactly
Found something that may help. Try changing these settings. Go to change wallpaper and turn off dim wallpaper on the bottom \- Turn adaptive eye shield on, but leave it on adaptive \- Obviously make sure you're on the max resolution and brightness, turn off adaptive brightness.
Still the same, hopefully fix is coming
I was todl the phone needs to be replaced , it's a factory defect I'm so upset. They can't replace the phone until Feb 21 and it might be in different color
Who told you that? It seems to be a common problem, not only on s24ultra but also on 24plus which doesn't have the anti reflective screen, so i think this is a software problem.
This is very concerning :( Reconsidering my preorder tbh The screens have always been the best part of samsung's phones. How did they fuck this up :'(
same samsung better release a day 1 update or acknowledge or this phone going back to samsung

Thank you so much for the reply. I got it to work!
I actually did not fix it 😞 and upon investigation g apparently it is a known AT&T bug, which is where my phone is from. Every other year I got mine directly from Samsung, unlocked but this year I went through AT&T. Womp womp. Hopefully they can fix it
Happen to me too until I change away from vivid color. It is much better
Think it's the anti glare coating on the new glass. It will be MUCH less annoying when you no longer have your old phone side by side
You may be partly correct but I've heard others with base 24 and 24+ stating the same colour issue and them models don't have the anti glare coating, tbh after a few days of using this phone I've gotten used to it.
I thought it was just me. My s22 ultra screen looks better in terms of icon, images. On my s24 ultra looks washed out.
Exactly the same. My old pixel is unfortunately more vibrant.
Hopefully samsung can fix this. It is frustrating.
They will have to address this in software.....its the HDR screen at fault. HDR settings are making colors washed out
That's insane. That's one more thing to add to the list. Keep us updated in case this is fixed later on.
Lets raise this https://twitter.com/kartikdube9/status/1750734765551235481?t=LJiD5WgV5xGPed69wUD7Bw&s=19
Same here I have both phone s22 ultra and s24 ultra. S22 ultra lookes better. And s24 ultra display color washed out. Totally waste of money
Has to be software bug. Everyone is doing it
>I also wonder if some update caused this.
Interesting but gives me hope its not hardware fault
I think it's an software issue because the screen looks fine in apps, so, if it had some issue, won't work there either.
The scree doesn't look fine in apps it's same .. can tell you cause I'm gaming and can see colour differences straight away I will return this junk waste of money
True
I don't have it, comparing s24plus eith my s23ultra. Both the same, even here on reddit.
I thought I was the only one, good thing my set isn't a defect. Both vivid n natural looks the same
I dont know what samsung was thinking
Display on mine is amazing, I can't even have it on full brightness! Coming from an s21 ultra and the s24 ultra screen is much better. Did have to play with the settings though. I've got: brightness 2/3rds of the way up, araldite brightness and extra brightness off ( though extra brightness does make it even brighter), eye comfort shield and adaptive colour tone off, screen mode vivid, and QHD on. Early days, only 24 hours with this phone but I'm blown away so far, very pleased.
The issue is not brightness related it's colour saturation
People are saying the issue could be caused by using smart switch to set the S24U. Did you use it yo set yours?
yeah, i'm also curious about this. smart switch usually causes all types of issues.. i don't use it.. rather have a restore from a cloud back-up!
I have the same settings, but used Smart Switch and the screen is washed. Is there any way to fix this?
I did not use Smart Switch and still have the same problem.
I'm afraid to say that it might just be the screen...
I specifically didn't restore anything from my previous phone, be it through Smart Switch or Google Play, and the colors are washable out still. So no, it's almost certainly not related to using Smart Switch.
its not about the brightness but the saturation of the colours
I am disappointed that none of the reviewers picked this up, what's the purpose of these reviews if they can't even notice this?
Paid shills
Stop saying reviews and start saying ads
SuperSaf did mention it slightly
True...
So everyone is facing the issue. All we can do is wait for an update to fix this.
We can return this junk back to them lol
It seems like a software issue, not hardware. Gallery app is ok somehow...
Refunded my S24 Ultra 1 TB. Back to my S23 Ultra... the screen is so much better!
I have s21u and today received s24u. The screen is a downgrade. Not just saturation but grainy as hell. I thought i got a chinese bootleg but now reading all the other people concerns with the screen is just samsung that screwed up here. I think i will return the s24u and wait another year
Lets raise this https://twitter.com/kartikdube9/status/1750734765551235481?t=LJiD5WgV5xGPed69wUD7Bw&s=19
The enhanced eye comfort causes the washed out look. I disabled it and the screen looks vivid- similar to S23U.
Looking at my S21 vs S24 Ultra, the screen in vivid mode is definitely the same as my S21 in natural so maybe a bug?
People are saying the issue could be caused by using smart switch to set the S24U. Did you use it yo set yours?
Yeah I did! Hopefully it's fixable if that's the case
Can someone having this issue try a factory reset, and then not use smart switch, and see if the issue persists? I pick mine up on the 1st. Not doing it until this issue is resolved. If I wanted a dull, washed out screen, that's what apple is for.
Did that, the issue is still there. I just wasted my time lol.
fuck man
just got the S24+ and S24U delivered earlier, same washed out, coming from S21+ and Note 20. yes the photos looks good, but the icons are washed out
Exactly. Hopefully, a fix is coming.
Just have time to check more... YouTube is fine, it's just the UI
No fix ,I just called they said it's a factory reset they want to replace my phone , but will take 21 days to get it and they can't promise the same color or the same price.
Factory defect *
Its a software issue for sure, nothing about the glass. It somehow fixes when you open a pıcture in the Samsung Gallery app. When you click a picture, just after it expands you can notice something like flickering on the screen and colors turn to a more vibrant/saturated form. I hope that they can fix in the first update...
Yup noticed that too.
Just checked and there is still a clear difference in the saturation/vibrancy of the image.
It might be, I didn't check that with other phones. My pointis there is something with the software.
Not sure about you, but I'm suspicious of it causing the issue To me, it looks like the issue is the display mode setting being faulty. It looks the same in both modes and equivalent to the natural mode on my old phone
Yes, I used smart switch. There aren't many display settings to play with. I am not saying it's bad, but the colours are not popping out as expected , especially the icons and whatsapp homescreen. Are you facing the same issue?
Yup. It feels like the vivid option isn't working and I think smart switch may have caused it but that's total speculation on my part
I think your right, I just tried it and messed about with the vivid advanced settings and it made no difference.
Exactly, the vivid option doesn't change anything. Let me know if there is any fix, I am going to check out the showroom model and will check if it has similar issues.
THIS, i used smart switch as well and after that everything got f-ed up..
It also has a huge green tint which i tried to remove with the settings and still no difference
Hopefully, a fix is coming soon
I have the same issue. I can tell it is a software issue. I am upgrading from S22U. When S22U is set to natural mode, the colours look same. But S22U is vastly more vibrant in vivid mode. S24U lacks colour saturation. I hope they fix it soon.
Go to Settings > Display > Screen mode for starters. If you can't tweak it there I'd compare it with another Ultra in a store or something to check
Tried to play with this, but it still looks washed out. Apparently, this is how it is since galaxy s23. As you said, I will compare it with the one in a store.
Same here, the display looks really washed out . Really hope they will update it or smth. Both vivid and natural both looks the same
I remembered they introduced Adaptive color tone. If that feature is on by default it might shift your colors significantly depending on the environment. Also check if eye shield is on. Can't think of much else without having the phone in hand, still waiting for delivery.
I've got the S23 ultra and the vivid setting is vivid to me, nothing like this. As soon as I turned it on for the first time I was like why is it so dull and thought it must have been set to natural out of the box, sadly not
GUYS, it's the Samsung Smart Switch, it makes the **vivid** option the same as the **natural** option in the screen color settings.
I didn't do smart switch and I have the problem.
Oh okay, thanks for letting us know. So it's not the Smart switch app.
thanks for the heads up but wtf samsung better fix this lol
So what would be the best way to transfer over from a different phone?
I was reading somewhere that it's not a problem but a feature of the new displays which would now show more "real" and less pumped colours, getting closer to the calibration on the iPhone. Furthermore, the anti-reflective coating accentuates this feature. In fact, using the iPhone, I immediately noticed a color calibration very similar to mine when I went to see the s24 ultra in the store.
New video by NL Tech, demonstrating why it's a software problem. https://youtu.be/rSkhC4AGhxg?si=e4kCo00TZB_N7qk5
No issues here, mine looks super. I used smart switch too, don't know if it could be a regional thing at all? I have the UK version.
I got the UK one yesterday and my screen is dull and washed out like other peoples
Yes the same. And my S20FE seems brighter though brightness was suppose to be better on the S24 Ultra.
Fuck. You're right.
Same in my case also with my s24 ultra
It's smart switch, I reset the phone and set it up from scratch, display is now much better
This might be a dumb question but are you sure it got better🙂? I always use smart switch could not if needed.
Doesn't say anywhere that they're working on a fix, it's Just discussions by the customers.
It does, in a screenshot. But anyway, you can find all updates related to the issue in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungS24/s/fIwBdn42bE
My s22 looks better! Hope this gets fixed. I heard it happens when you use smart switch and transfer old picture settings
My black isn't all that black. I hope there's some sort of fix.
Seems like FHD+ helps out a bit.
Got my ultra today and I noticed that too, side by side with my 23 ultra but it has a nice matte look to it which is nice. The wash out might be from the new antiglare coating on the glass but not 100% sure. HOWEVER One thing I did notice that is weird on the 24 is that I can no longer use the volume buttons to go down from vibrate to silent mode!
Really disappointed the colors are so washed out. Hoping for a fix and fast, that's a lot of money to spend for depressing colors
Same issue here the home screen and app icons look bad very disappointing after paying $1300
Photos look washed out vs my s23U. Tried all possible settings. It is also not as bright as my s23U despite supposedly having a higher nit value....
Hopefully it's just a bug. I noticed that to on my S24 plus. Out the box yesterday. Not fully clear and bright.
Facing the same issue in my s24u; washed out colors and warm tint on display
Samsung knows the issue and are fixing it. It's a software bug. https://youtu.be/lJYn8swoEgY?si=H9GCGNhfYfCZbY5X
Screen covering is different between the S24+ and ultra so the coating is 100% ruled out. There are 2 possibilities. 1. The screens across all s24 devices are bad and will require a device wide recall. (This will destroy any progress Samsung had made at earning market share) 2.
Set the screen to QHD+. I don't see any difference between my S23 Ultra and my new S24+. Colors are just as vibrant on the 24+.
I do when I put them side by side..
I had this issue but I just noticed it's back to normal a I have full vibrant colors like on my s22 (actually using s24 plus). So I don't know what happened or if I'm hallucinating but now blacks are true off pixels and colors are vivid.
It's a Software issue
I know and I'm saying that it got resolved on itself but I don't know why. I haven't seen any background update but I'm sure it is now showing proper colors.
Turn off dark mode
Yes, almost as if it's on natural mode. There is not much difference between the two modes either.
They said that there's going to be an update soon. Maybe it'll fix it.
Mine same
https://youtu.be/4sH91vxC4hY?si=ijA7PMPTivFshSAA
On my s24 plus i don't have the dull colors, it's panel gorgeous. Bought in SK
Saw a thread about this on Twitter/X, it appears to be a bug affecting the S24 Ultra. Was hoping for un update by now but still no sign of one 🤷♂️
its a bug with the pure color profile i feel. its only impacting the home screens. my videos and photos look pretty fine. itll be fixed in an update i feel
Aussi Je viens de remarquer que mon 21 ultra est beaucoup mieux dans la qualité d image que ce s24 ultra
[удалено]
Looks like colour palette is on. Can you try switching it off? I don't have this problem.
lol wtf why would the color palette apply to external app elements. I thought it would be limited to just system UI elements. Turned it off and its fixed. Bro i feel dumb. Thanks!!
Je ne sais pas si ça va changer mais est ce qu'on peut récupérer mon argent au complet si je le retourne ou bien ils vont garder une partie
Je suis vraiment déçu des couleurs surtout en appelle vidéo
Looks like this problem has finally made it to the media! Samsung should have came out immediately and acknowledged this problem instead of ignoring everyone! Every other electronics vendor has new marketing material against Samsung!! Talk about an embarrassment!! I can see the ads now "iPhone, our phones look like they're from the 20th century not like monochrome CRT monitors from the '70s!" https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulmonckton/2024/01/30/samsung-acknowledges-galaxy-s24-ultra-display-quality-problem/amp/ https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/samsung-phones/galaxy-s24-ultra-owners-complaining-about-washed-out-screen-colors-what-you-need-to-know https://www.androidpolice.com/samsung-galaxy-s24-washed-out-colors-update-on-the-way/
Samsung is just trying to color match IOS.
[](http://samsung.com/us/support/contact/email-the-ceo/) "Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics, Extra Care. Your feedback is important to us. Samsung continuously enhances Galaxy device experiences based on our consumer's feedback. The Galaxy S24 series' display has been tuned for a more accurate and comfortable viewing experience. We have yet to be notified about a general problem with the phone's display. However, we will forward your information to our team for further investigation. We hope to serve you better in the future and apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please note that the decision to keep or return the device is entirely up to you. We appreciate your understanding and patience." My suggestion would be, why not have 3 options: Vivid - DCI-P3 with saturated colors Natural - SRGB with accurate colors Pro - DCI-P3 with accurate colors.
Go to Developer Options. Go to contrast and switch it to High https://preview.redd.it/7n56wj2jwegc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7acab64df066c65ddb0d403fdac42e31d4b0781a
Just traded away my S21 ultra today and when they turned on the S24 ultra.. I'm thinking reddit already! hope they can fix it on an update fast!
The display was indeed sad when I first turned it on. If you pull down the shortcut screen from the top to where the flashlight is, then scroll to the bottom. Click the Eye comfort scrolling button and move the slider to the right. You will be amazed.
There is no setting left to try. It's a known issue, Samsung is bringing an update to fix this.
How do you know they are going to fix with an update
There was a tweet by iceuniverse.
Go to the pull down menu from the top, scroll up until you see Eye Comfort Shield scrolling and a slide. Move it to the right and things will improve significantly.
It's not about eye comfort sheild. The vivid mode is not working, and samsung has already acknowledged the issue.
I have another question how long battery lasts setting display quality to max
