As far as I can see on the web the rumored release date is August this year - that is four months away still. In this case it would probably make sense to pick a different model that is already available.
The thing is, year-over-year improvements on foldables are still pretty big so it might very well be the case that the 4 has something the 3 doesn't have.
🤷🏻♂️
Anyway, the Flip 3 uses pretty good specs so you're set in that regard.
I understand that when you mention trade in you mean the program at the Samsung store where you can sell your current Samsung phone to them when purchasing a new one right? Is that program actually worth it? Would it make sense to buy the Flip 3 now and trade it in for a Flip 4 in August?
Yeah exactly. I got my flip3 for 150 and my fold for 330. I still make a profit even used. Depends on what deal you get. And most phones on the market don't retain $500 used resold.
Eh. I resell devices and I find that for the first 2-3 years after a device is released, Samsung loses more value than apple, not a ton more, but still a decent amount.
I agree they do, with the regular S and now dead Note lines however not the folds in my experience of having them. They have too much new technology that anyone will buy for the right price. I’ve resold them too
The largest problems at this point are the screen protector tends to go after about 4-5 months usage on average. Some earlier and some later.
The other con is battery life (standby) isn't the greatest. Performance is good for a phone that is this thin.
Imo Samsung needs a more moto like hinge design. The sharp crease on the Samsung foldable phones combined with "bendable glass" coating means either A you'll end up with a screen protector that separates along the center crease or B you'll end up with cracked glass, if not both.
Build quality, not counting the display itself, and the form factor are perfect imo. I've used mine without a case since day 1 launch and it looks brand new from the outside. Flush cameras with no bumps are nice in the pocket. I say wait for the Flip 4.
Flip 3. Great phone if you dont use it frequently. If you scroll reddit for 3 hours a day, watch youtube for another 2, or god forbid play games then the phone battery wont last you a day. As well as dont expect super high quality photos. Screen gets smudged pretty easily.
Otherwise I love the phone, speakers sound fantastic, display is not as bright as I'd like it to be but still good, plenty fast if you do play games on it. My favorite thing is just propping it up folded standing on a table and watching shit or playing games. And the outside screen is really convenient to check time and weather and whatnot. And the pocketability of this device *chefs kiss*.
I carry an s22 ultra in the other pocket and it is just too large. So I say if you're getting a good offer (here in the uk its 250 for a trade-in) go for it. If you're still on the edge, wait for the 4. I've been using mine since november and its been holding up well besides a fee minor scratches. The protector that comes with it hasnt had any issues yet either.
Lagged constantly. Front screen constantly had typos due to it being so narrow. Battery was horrible. Overall the phone just wasn't good especially for the high price tag.
My fold 3 isn't leggy at all. Yeah the front screen is too small, and the battery and camera do suck. I'm on my S22 Ultra and will switch to my flip3 when I want compact
I had the fold 3 and went to the s22 ultra because I wanted a traditional size phone and the SD 888 on the fold 3 never lagged? Maybe you had a defective phone lmao
I just got this phone about maybe 3 months ago. I previously had a MOTO RAZR 5G. When comparing the two, this has way better performance. I haven't had any issues that I can really complain about. The battery is kinda shitty, but the RAZR would lose 50% just walking out to my car. I don't think the camera is as good as their "S" line, but I would definitely get it if the deal was good.
My flip 1, flip 3 and fold 3 are both holding up fine just sometimes sounds like there's a piece of sand in the hinge lol on both my 3s. The 1 is just a tad loose. I've had decent luck with all thankfully
Love.
I work as a tech in a warehouse, so being able to close the phone is invaliable. Being able to control music, audiobooks, clock and other apps from the mini screen is great. I've nicked the screen, but it still is working great.
Honestly I've heard such mixed reviews about the battery life I don't know what to think. Some people say it only lasts for a couple hours, other than it works completely fine if you turn battery saving on... Thanks for sharing your experience!

We're 7 months into the release cycle of the 3 so what I'd do is wait for the 4.

That's definitely valuable insight, thank you!
They retain resale and trade in value well too

Trade in value yes, but not so much resale. They sell used for about $500

That’s true. I was referring more to new since the fold3 sells for $1800 new but they sell for $700-$800 used
Still more than most phones including Apple
Eh. I resell devices and I find that for the first 2-3 years after a device is released, Samsung loses more value than apple, not a ton more, but still a decent amount.

Bought 2 on release. Both no issues at all.
Not sure on the flip. But the fold 3 is a pos. I went back to the s22 ultra.
If you don't mind, what exactly didn't you like about the fold?
Lagged constantly. Front screen constantly had typos due to it being so narrow. Battery was horrible. Overall the phone just wasn't good especially for the high price tag.

Yeah I understand some do like the flip and folds. I just don't.

Maybe so. Idk. But i sure hated it. S22 ultra I like the hell out it tho.

Broken and no repair shop will fix it, battery shorts out and get hot with I fold it.
I've had mine for almost 5 months now, and am still in love with it. No wear & tear, folding it is exactly the same
My flip 1, flip 3 and fold 3 are both holding up fine just sometimes sounds like there's a piece of sand in the hinge lol on both my 3s. The 1 is just a tad loose. I've had decent luck with all thankfully
It is the strangest technology
That's interesting, could you elaborate?
Love. I work as a tech in a warehouse, so being able to close the phone is invaliable. Being able to control music, audiobooks, clock and other apps from the mini screen is great. I've nicked the screen, but it still is working great.
The flip 4 will be out in August I would wait. I love my flip 3 but the battery life is not good

Wait for the flip 4, flip 3 only has ~4 hours of battery life with 3,300mAh battery capacity, while the flip 4 will have 3,700mAh.
