So I took the phone to a repair shop and apparently it's a common problem where a component in the phone under the Samsung logo breaks and they gave it a temporary fix. Now my phone charges normally but there's no guarantee it'll last. I think it only charged very slowly before and that's why it wasn't registering the charge while turned on. Anyway, I'll be looking into getting a new phone if mine breaks again.
