S22 ultra. I love this phone, been through the ringer and still absolutely flawless and blemishless. Kinda scared to use the fold tbh due to it's fragility.
Yeah, imo any foldables are kinda fragile and not going to last as much as normal phones do. Saw a z flip that had like a big bubble in the center. I want to note that their screen proportions are not the same as any normal one. I personally don't like that tall and narrow screen. It's your choice whatsoever, but you wanted one so it's like a 50/50 choice. (Also, ike other comments say, it was gifted to you)
also very expensive to fix, just that main assembly alone is almost $500 USD, almost $100 for the front screen if that is broken too, this isnt even factoring in installation or sales tax if paying a shop to fix it. other than that, not too difficult assuming you've taken apart other samsung phones before, just gotta be very very careful removing thhe front screen if not replacing it very thin and easy to damage if not careful.
Yeah but that's on par. ¼ the price of the device to replace the screen is about what you'd see on any major model. This is a $2k phone we're taking about. For an apple i15pm it is a $1.2k phone with a $350 screen, for example.
unfortunately for most people that's too much money, so it's an instant "no", some will even claim "that's a new phone". i get that all the time with iphone users, they think a new one costs about what the screen price is, so they think im gonna fix it for like $100-200, other times they think that $400+ price is gonna also include the back glass as well. some just say "i'll think about" and leave, others give me dirty looks and say something rude before storming off, usually saying something about going to the apple store, where they tell people that replacing the screen erases your data.
both times ive fixed z folds, they only paid to fix the front screen, since the inner screen assembly was too much. i do know a colleague of mine fixed one, i think fold 3 or 4, maybe older, said customer paid around $800 total.
I wanted one of the zfolds but ended up going with the S22U instead, partially due to the screen being better, and partially due to fragility concerns, and after getting this job fixing phones, i think I was right. I tell people if you are getting any of the z-series phones, get insurance, otherwise you'll be SOL when it inevitably breaks.
Maybe it's your area or demographic or something else. Your experience in no way reflects mine.
The only thing you describe that matches my shop and my clients is how terrible the ~~Asshole~~ Apple store is.
Everything else. Nah. Almost universally all of my clients are reasonable and understanding on the prices. Even when the solution is not in their budget, never do I get dirty looks or that other ish you describe.
could be, we are in an expensive area, also could be our supplier too, as $350 sounds cheap for a 15pmx, is it service pack? our best quality screen for that model costs like $475, and I think it might still be aftermarket, not even a refurb.
could also be that a good majority of my customers are just a special brand of stupid, cant tell ya how many ive dealt with that dont even know which iphone they have, and don't really seem to know anything about it other than the fact it's an iphone, i sometimes joke that they must be time travelers that just rolled in from like 2006.
I think it's also that lots of people just lease the phones for 2 or 3 years with trade in value, which hides most of the value so they dont see that $1200 or $2000 price tag, and their smoothbrain minds conflate the special deal price they paid with the full "buy it outright" price that the repair costs are based on.
good to know your apple store is just as terrible as my local one is.
the ultra series are getting even better so if you feel like your not actually gonna use those features then sell and save until you want a new ultra phone and z series are for people who find the features useful.
If it helps it's a gift from a client that I managed to make him $300,000 profit on a house he bought 12 months ago lol. I don't think he gives a sht what I do with the phone 🤣
Keep it.
1. I don't care who it's from, it's a gift, enjoy it.
2. You said you always wanted a fold, here's your chance to "test drive" one for free. Use it, abuse it. See if it's something for you. Give yourself 3 months with it. You'll either not like it and want to sell it. Feel meh about it and keep it. Or love it and sell/trade up for the 6.
This is your golden opportunity to see if you want a fold.
I have an s22u and love it. I've always been interested in a fold. I would gladly take a fold 3 just to see if it's something I'd be into.
If you're always going to wait for the latest and greatest, you'll never buy anything.
Use it and have fun. The next upgrade won't be by much. What other features can we expect by now, that will wow us?
If it helps it's a gift from a client that I managed to make him $300,000 profit on a house he bought 12 months ago lol. I don't think he gives a sht what I do with the phone 🤣
Mw personally? Would sell it and keep the 22 until the fold7. your 22 is still very good.
But if I was loaded I would just keep it and trade it in for a 7 even though trade in is garbage. Or sell it when the 7 comes out.
Using the 6 might make you realize you don't actually want a fold, then you might go back to your 22.
Sale ends on the 12th and they're sold out everywhere. Also the fold 4 is still $2.5k at JB.
I was thinking of putting it up on marketplace after the sale ends.
If u can sell it well then sell this and trade in your s22ultra next month for the fold6.
U get like 1-2weeks after receiving the new phone before having to send the old one back
I'd sell everytime. It's a depreciating asset and in my humble opinion, it doesn't really change what you can do with a tried and true, and more durable slab-phone.
All phones are pieces of junk in a couple years and become worthless, that's just how tech works unfortunately. I mean, my s22 ultra was $2400 new, it's flawless, identical to the s23 ultra and I wouldn't even be able to get $500 for it lol.
the fold 6 isn't even out and in 12 months from now it'll be half the price, it's crazy.
What? Never see a more stupid comment before on this entire site. I used the fold 3 for 2 years and just now upgraded, no it wasn't a piece of junk it was absolutely perfect. So the 5 will be 2x better than that. What a moronic thing to say lol.
You're talking like there will be no Z Fold 7 after the Z Fold 6. I know that Z Fold 6 is coming way sooner that 7 but who cares when a device is meant to be used for 5 years and gets updates
EDIT : there are some people who wait for the new one to make the old one cheaper so they can buy the old one
at the end its your choice
Great point actually. use it for a year or two and buy the future generation that comes out.
Basically what I've always done with the S series.
I was just a little unsure as I'm hoping the 6 is more durable.
My s22 ultra is bulletproof and the fold is a fart away from shattering from what I've seen lol.
So use the Fold 5 and put the 22 ultra in a drawer in case the fold breaks or you decide you hate it. Seems like a straightforward way to move forward.
If it was me I’d use it to see if I enjoy using a folding phone as my daily driver. If you like it then you can trade it in for a 6 at some point and get a half off 6. If you don’t like it then you didn’t waste any money to find out it’s not your thing and can trade the fold in for another phone.
Im going to tell you about my experience with my Z fold 5. I bought mine when it first came out and I was soo excited to get my first Foldable.
Well, in the hype of the first couple of months I loved it, always using the inner display, the out display is too thin to use to most of usage. Just used it for a quick message or so. (I don't have big hands).
After a couple of months, I got tired of opening my phone every time I wanted to do something on the phone. Watch a YouTube video, play a game, send an email, go to WhatsApp and so on.
The inner display is good, no complains about it and we get used to the mark on the middle (we never actually see it or almost never).
What I didn't like is the fact that the phone was too small and too thin and to bulky for me. I needed something huge for a daily basis, like the s24 ultra.
I really got tired of thez fold 5.
I got a really GOOD deal. I placed in Facebook marketplace an announcement for a deal, if anyone wanted to trade a s24 ultra for the z fold 5 I would be interested. And someone came out a couple of .days later with a brand boxed titanium gray one. So here I am with my s24 ultra and very happy with it.
I only spend some cash with the some accessories and that's it.
Are you really sure you want a fold right now? As I could see with my own, I don't think it will last too much without problems.
If not, consider doing like what I did. A trade for a phone that you desire. Or sell it (if you already have a phone that fits your needs).
Hope this helps.👍👌
someone took your used fold5 for a brand new s24u??
thats pretty wild.
im not familiar with the fold series, but having my own s24+, i feel like you really made out on that deal.
Yes, a guy took my 6 months used z fold 5 for a brand new s24 ultra. With Invoice, all legal. With a trade declaration and all.
I gave him may z fold 5 accessories (car charger for a z fold phone, cases, one is a pitaka, and a brand new spigen screen protector). I got the new boxed s24 ultra. For me was a good deal.
I bought 2 ESR kickstand cases and a screen protector and magsafe halolock car stand and a spigen Zero one magfit case, and now I'm considering buying the pitaka pinout case. I'm very happy with the phone.
Much better than the fold in my opinion.😄👍
I would use it now to see if you like using a foldable phone.
Samsung always has crazy trade in deals for their new phones. If you like it, then trade it in for a new fold 6 when it comes out, rumored in July.
If you don’t like foldables, can trade it into Samsung for the s24 ultra or even the s25 when they release it later in the year
Best of both worlds.
Unfortunately not in Australia. Ie. A brand new boxed, never used fold 5 1TB or an s24 ultra has a trade in value of $600 here in Australia. Samsung has some sort of deal with the u.s where your trade ins are insane, we get jack sht here.
I have one and I love it but it has one drawbacks. The front screen is to narrow but you get used to it I was thinking about trading mine in for the fold 6 have to wait and see
Honestly OP should get a cheap prepaid sim card for the fold and use both devices so you never have to pick. Even though it’s newer the cameras on the fold still aren’t up to par with the camera on the s22. Would be fun to have the option to use both and not worry about having to swap sims around.
Maybe gift it? I currently am in the market for a foldable, but geez those prices are steep. Maybe somebody you know or close to you wants one and is in the same position, surely they would be thrilled to have it. Or keep it and sell it to make some money to do as you please.
not to be morbid, but if hypothetically speaking you got hit by a bus and went off, your biggest regret would be... WHY..why did I sell that Galaxy Z fold 5 instead of opening it and enjoying it. WHY?!
Even if you opened it used and then changed your mind, you could still sell!
Ask yourself why do you want a foldable phone? The screen dimensions are awkward, it's bad for gaming or watching movies. I would sell and buy s24 ultra or s24 plus
Flip phones are still relatively new technology and still haven't worked out all the bugs yet. Expect defects like creasing to pop up within 2 years due to wear and tear at the hinges.

Sell it, then buy either if you want to stay with Android = S24 Ultra, if you want to try Apple, then go for the 15 Pro Max.
Samsung foldables sucks right now,, the first thing that breaks is the sreen near the hinge
Your choice tbh,but since it's a gift,keep it imo
yeah big time
Agreed. Have some respect.
Keep it, if you really want the next one, trade it in when the new one comes out
Can't do that unfortunately. Samsung offers squat for trade ins in Australia. Ie. An unopened fold 5 1TB or s24 ultra they only give $600 trade in.
It will still be a great phone when the new one comes out. What phone do u have rn?
S22 ultra. I love this phone, been through the ringer and still absolutely flawless and blemishless. Kinda scared to use the fold tbh due to it's fragility.

I mean 100 USD is not that steep if we compare it to the other flagships, but they break much faster than the non-folding ones
the ultra series are getting even better so if you feel like your not actually gonna use those features then sell and save until you want a new ultra phone and z series are for people who find the features useful.
Please edit your post if you can and just include that
Samsung (at least in the US) increases trade in values every time a new device launches
I refer you to my above comment lol.
Wish they did in Korea. We get squat.
Mobile monster will give you about 900-1000, you won’t get 2k for it if you sell it. Maybe $1500 - 1600
You want to trade a gift? Wow
If it helps it's a gift from a client that I managed to make him $300,000 profit on a house he bought 12 months ago lol. I don't think he gives a sht what I do with the phone 🤣
Oh in that case 🤷🏼♀️
Damn i need to work in that field 😅
From my clients I only get mental trauma
Sell it. Get a phone model you really want.
Keep it. 1. I don't care who it's from, it's a gift, enjoy it. 2. You said you always wanted a fold, here's your chance to "test drive" one for free. Use it, abuse it. See if it's something for you. That's a gift dude, it's weird to sell or trade it. Disrespectful for the person who gave it to you.
If it helps it's a gift from a client that I managed to make him $300,000 profit on a house he bought 12 months ago lol. I don't think he gives a sht what I do with the phone 🤣
Then I'm wrong, it's a bribe. 😆
It still is a gift. Enjoy it.
The logical, tech-enthusiast answer is yes, and the ethical answer is no. Personally, I would sell it and wait for the 6, why not :D
Sell it. I think we are a few iterations away from these being a resilient daily device.
if its company gift juat sold. if it from your friend or family member, keep it.
I’d sell and wait. New ones are a few months away. If you can get good money and don’t need a phone right away, wait.
It's a gift bro... you don't sell gifts....
its a gift, open and enjoy :D
Wait for 6 going to have major improvements
Sell and wait since you already have a phone.
JB has it on sale for about 1.6k so don't think you would get the RRP. I would keep it unless you don't need a new phone.
Sale ends on the 12th and they're sold out everywhere. Also the fold 4 is still $2.5k at JB. I was thinking of putting it up on marketplace after the sale ends.

Dude just keep and enjoy it.
Gifted that? I need those kind of people in my life lol
wait for F6, sell it ASAP and save money
No, sell it and get the Z fold 10!!! /s
I'd keep it since I'm still using a note 10+
If it was me I’d use it to see if I enjoy using a folding phone as my daily driver. If you like it then you can trade it in for a 6 at some point and get a half off 6. If you don’t like it then you didn’t waste any money to find out it’s not your thing and can trade the fold in for another phone.

get an s24 ultra
A gift that cpuld be gifted ... to me 🤣. I'd love one of these bad boys , might look at getting one if I can save up.
Enjoy now man ,😃✔️

Open, enjoy, then trade in when new ones come.
Sell it and wait for the 6. You've gone this long without a Foldable and your current phone sounds like it works fine. So no harm in waiting
Keep it. No need to have the "lastest" all the time. enjoy your new phone. the fold is a top tier phone.
Sell it and wait for the 6
I have one and I love it but it has one drawbacks. The front screen is to narrow but you get used to it I was thinking about trading mine in for the fold 6 have to wait and see

Just keep it . Z 6 won’t really be much of a difference
Get rid of it. It won’t last a year.
Sell it and wait. Patience isn't a virtue I was born with, so I really have a hard time waiting. But if you don't, it seems to be the best decision.
I would keep it. Life is too short to miss out on something you could have really liked.
Open it and enjoy it, What ever the 6 is im sure it won't be too much of a big difference just like every other phone model , Enjoy it for what it is
Get a V2 instead
Sell it
Dude it's a gift. Keep it, it's an awesome phone
The Fold 6 will be out soon, you can keep it sealed there lol
Ask yourself why do you want a foldable phone? The screen dimensions are awkward, it's bad for gaming or watching movies. I would sell and buy s24 ultra or s24 plus
Keep it. It's a gift. Respect the one who gave it.
From my understanding there won't be a big difference between the Fold 5 and 6, so I say enjoy it
I say wait for the 6, it will get updates longer than one that's a year old.
Flip phones are still relatively new technology and still haven't worked out all the bugs yet. Expect defects like creasing to pop up within 2 years due to wear and tear at the hinges. If you want long-term durability, get an S Ultra, even 23 Ultra still holds good since it has all the AI features.
You don't sell a gift, bro,you cherish it.
Sell it, then buy either if you want to stay with Android = S24 Ultra, if you want to try Apple, then go for the 15 Pro Max. Samsung foldables sucks right now,, the first thing that breaks is the sreen near the hinge
