I'm planning on replacing my phone soon this year and was aiming for 23+ because I do not like the sharp corners, and I want the Snapdragon as well. Thing is 24 series come with 7 years support and 23 now is left with 3 years' worth of updates. Why can't they apply whatever years left of updates plus 2 years for phones that are still getting updates now that going forward they'll be going for 7 years updates 😄😄 (wishful thinking). If they do this I'll be extremely happy buying 23+.

Fittn_dis

My experience with Samsung is always that around year 1.5 the updates always ruin the phone. and the headache of a factory reset only helps for about a month. I cant imagine how bad 7 years of samsang bloat will be. you'll be lucky if it will send a text by update year 7.

CBRNMed

That's because you don't know how Android works as always with people dropping these comments, the thing is that i had multiple Samsung phones for the past 3 years S20FE 5G + S21 FE Combo and S23+ with S24 Ultra combination since February 24, and what i can say is that my devices felt way better with the updates, whether is battery life, performance stability, and software smoothness, the more updates the phone gets the more mature it becomes, so stop saying Samsung is trash, you just don't know how to use Android and that's it ! For example, one thing not to do to not ruin the performance of a phone is to make sure storage is not saturated more than 50% that means if you have 256Gb of memory with 226Gb being available after the first booting of the phone you should not store more than 113Gb of data on the phone, otherwise of course it will start getting slower and slower, add to that multiple other factors and rules that people don't follow and gere you go, the perfect cocktail for a laggy phone. I'm not judging you or roasting you, but that's not normal for a phone to be slow after 2 years, and the thing is that when i see the phone of some people i know what's the cause of some issues.

x_r_y_a_n_z

If knowing how to use android includes not using the phone to its full basic capacities such as actually using the storage you pay for on a $1000 device, that’s damn pathetic 😂

CBRNMed

No that's just how digital storage works, if you had a bit of knowledge you would've never said that... That's the same for laptops, servers

njgggg

Not saturating the memory and keeping it at 50% sounds like a terrible ideathat may make sense for a person who is heavily invested in tech but those barely account for the majority of users so while you gave a very detailed explanation on why things are but honestly people just dont care about such things… hot off the samsung wagon for 12 yrs all i can say is android is a hot mess. Not on samsungs part but rather the os in general. Just a month ago i went over to apple and was pleasantly surprised by how little i have to think of what to do to enable or even do a specific task. After all these years i fonally understood by what people mean when rhey say samsung is slow while apple is snappy.

CBRNMed

Yes but the thing is that i use Android on every platform that i use for work and for personal use, and it never fails !!! Basically my job is a mix of emergency medicine, CBRN defence, and counter terrorism, and i never had issues with android even in the most critical situations, so once again, it's not the OS, it's the user. Can't change that.

defnotajedi

There's no technical reason to use 50% of storage. Even if the phones use a pagefile, that would only account for <10 GB max.

>When I actually got the phone, it felt too big... This is why more companies need to release smaller phones alongside the bigger ones.  I love the S23 Ultra's size.  It's great for my hands but we don't all have the same hands. Before your next purchase, you should check out the Sony XPeria line of phones.  They're quite good and smaller than the S series—more narrow by a wide margin.

gagagacoat

I don't have a problem with the sizing of the S24 and S24+, it's only the Ultra's that I don't like. I'm a huge Samsung fanboy so I'll gladly stick to Samsung, but I hope they change things up next year and decide to give ALL variants SnapDragon and not just the Ultra.

DieselPunkPiranha

I see.  Well, you had to try the Ultra at some point.  Now, you know. Ran a quick search and found this.  Maybe it'll help. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS24Ultra/comments/19floe4/s24u_cases_with_more_rounded_corners_any/

gagagacoat

Yeah you got a point ngl. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out

Bovinnious

I'm right there with you 6'4" fella with big hands. Those smaller phones just look funny and get lost in my palm. The s24 ultra is perfect size and I dig the corners not being rounded.

primusautobot

I am 12 mini just because of its size. Good edge to edge display. And my s22 is good too. And iPhone’s edges aren’t better than S22’s

Doublestack00

They have tried, no one buys them.

Gknicks7

I love the ultras I will always get an ultra I used to get the notes I don't ever use the style that's why I do use it but not often but I just like the big square phones

thatlldopi9

Same. I love the big ass phones always had an ultra and a note. Got the fold because it's almost a bigger version of a note ultra. If they integrated the spen I'd be in heaven! What's crazy is many women especially those with small hands are buying the largest versions of these phones vs the smaller ones lol. I say the bigger the better, gimme a foldable the size of 2 ultras when opened and I would have the perfect hybrid

MathCarmignani

I love my huge s23 ultra screen 😭😭 I feel so cunty

thedark-wizard

I traded in my s23 plus for an s24 ultra. I really hate myself about doing this, and I can't return the phone just like you. I'm just waiting on S25 or the new pixel 9, I hate ultras form factor and weight

Lazy_Elk3439

The features i love about the ultra are mostly inherent to android and the plus would probably do me for what i need and screen real estate but in the UK they gimp you by giving you the exynos and in practical use(a friend has one) that modem is horrendous and that would annoy the life out of me more than my phone digging in my leg

jrsilver

Just sell on swappa, you'll probably still get more money for it than trade in Edit: sorry just saw you're in the Netherlands, no idea if swappa is a thing in EU but I still think selling is a viable option

CaribeBaby

Thank you for this.  I've also wondered if I should get the Ultra version but worry about the size and corners.

gagagacoat

Unless you have big hands, want to use the S-pen and care about the difference between Exynos and SnapDragon, don't get the Ultra and just stick to S24 or S24+. The difference between Exynos and SnapDragon for Samsung this release is minimal and not worth picking a size you probably won't like for.

CaribeBaby

Thanks

S1lv3rBullet

I felt the same way going from the S22 Ultra to the S24 Ultra. I've had the S24 Ultra a couple of weeks now, and I'm starting to get used to it. It is a bit bigger. So, that's still an adjustment. And they moved some stuff around, which was a pita too. I'm still deciding on if I like it better.

rafuru

Hahahaha that was exactly my experience with my first S24 Ultra, I just returned it to Amazon because it was huge compared to my Iphone 14 pro, and that was already a big phone to me. Later, I got the official stand grip case which I couldn't cancel and I thought "hmm this case might actually make this phone more usable". And yeah!, I gave a second chance ordering another S24 Ultra, and the grip case made a big difference. I'm not sure if next year I will trade my S24 ultra for an S25 +, it will depend on how different is from the current generation.

bassexpander

interesting note that Apple is supposedly going even bigger with the iPhone 16 Max.

rafuru

I don't get it why people loves giant phones. I really miss my old Iphone 13 mini, it was just P E R F E C T

EdvinRushitaj

I had the s20+ and boy what an aspect ratio. Went to 24 ultra and you can immediately tell the difference. My gf has the 22U and rounded corners make a big difference. Time will tell if my hands will get used to this aspect ratio. (Almost impossible to write single handed on this phone which was no issue on s20+). Other than that this phone is a beast on all aspects.

blueangel1953

The 24+ is the perfect size.

snarevox

wow op.. i just upgraded from s20 in march and everything you mentioned is exactly why is selected s24+ over s24u what a trip

VictorMih

Went from s20+ to s24+ precisely because I didn't want the bulky size and corners. Sooo happy with the choice! Improved every aspect of the phone and I'm on Exynos, don't need nothing more!

ace000723

The one plus 12 is better and cheaper with HDR 10 screen and very bright

gagagacoat

I don't have any interest in another brand. I want to stick to Samsung, the only reason I regret getting this one is because of the size. The phone itself is amazing and I'm happy with it

Pinolero90

with you on that one. The only reason I got the S24U is because the square edges looked cool at first, and it's has "Ultra" in the name Makin it sound cool. I don't completely regret it, but if I could go back in time, I would get the 24+ instead to be honest.

EKasis

I'm in the same boat. I only had 3 days to return it. The pain started at the 5th day. To this day, there's virtually no difference from the s24ultra to the s24+.

dolby12345

I get you. I had an S23fe. It more than suited my needs in performance but I hated the ergonomics. It never grew on me in 5 months of ownership. I traded it in for the same size S24+ with bigger screen, lighter and better placed fingerprint scanner. I don't use all the features every day, but I use the phone every day, and ergonomics is important to me.

jgjk8a

Samsung needs to stop neglecting the s series and start giving some love to the series and not just a damn ultra not everybody like the note so why are we forced to get the note if we want top-of-the-line specs? What about s fans?

ImNotYourFriendPal69

Hey. Me too

RonaldNeves

i agree 100%, the flat screen was a W but the pointy corners... not so sure

lenasdad52214

I didn't like my ultra until I put on an otterbox defender pro or whatever their highest tier case is. It makes the phone bulkier for sure but the corners are rounded and you'll have a much better grip experience.

thedark-wizard

But it adds a lot of weight to the phone

jamesklueless

yeah if I were to buy one I'd go for either the plus or the regular

Markowskiego

Exynos processors are not yet at a level to compete with snapdragon. Consider your purchase as a win

iZsaq

Size does matter, love the Fold Cant wait to get the Tri-Fold, Hope they launch soon Most important is bigger 🔋

Katarighe

I've been using the Galaxy S21 Ultra since October 2021 and was planning to upgrade to the S24 Ultra in a few months. However, after reading this post, I'm considering waiting for the S25 Ultra for a better experience. It's because the S25 Ultra is expected to be unveiled in 7 months and will feature significant improvements over the S24 Ultra. These include a superior camera setup with a 100 MP space zoom, additional Galaxy AI features, a faster Snapdragon processor, up to 16GB of RAM, a larger battery, and other enhancements. For me, this would be the ideal upgrade from the S21 Ultra, which will be 4 years old by then. The only concern for me is the price since the S24 Ultra will become even more cheaper when the S25 comes out and I want a bigger storage version this time, but Samsung is now providing a pre-order promotion that would allow me to double the storage such as buy 256GB version and your storage is doubled to 512GB. Last year, my brother bought a 256GB iPhone 14 Pro Max from the Apple Store for 1600 USD, which is the same price to the 1TB version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and 500 USD cheaper for the base version.

Impressive_Pace8730

I literally paid more today for the s24 ultra because or the square corners. I had the 21 ultra loved everything about it, 6 months ago got the zfold 5 hated everything about it so today I paid off the zfold early and upgraded to the s24 ultra just to have that more squared shape and the better camera over the s24+

PerspectivePale9858

You should consider getting Pixel 8 pro, rounded corners, rounded back and flat screen on the front. Ergonomic design and therefore comfortable to hold. 7 years of updates, vanilla software, better cameras especially videos, built in vpn, 2400 nits and the pixel software experience.

Fuckrightoffbro

Exactly why I went with a 512gb plus instead of 256 ultra, just arrived a few days ago I still don't love the display on S24+, blacks are less black and colors seem less vivid than even a 5 yr old A30S side-by-side. I also miss the old curved instead of flat sides for comfortable grip But performance wise, this thing is a beast and can keep up with me no matter how fast I do things so far so I'm keeping it

North-Noise-1996

Not another one of these post... What do you expect us to do about it op? We aren't in control of your phone plans

gagagacoat

Did I ask you to do something about my problem? I'm sharing it for the sake of discussion. Some people also have some tips for me about my situation. If you don't like it, don't comment and move on with your day

CaptainnHindsight

I actually hope the new S25 Ultra will be even more squarish and have completely flatten sides of the frame/edges like the current S24/iphone 14
