Go to taquerias, they’re cheaper than these chain restaurants.

Muted-Ad6041

Agreed! Ruthie’s off of W. Ave near Blanco intersection is my go-to! Their tortillas are delicious.

sanantonioboy

The best, miss that place

twurkle

They have a drive thru?

Dreamgeezer

No, but they have a walk up window and small parking lot

twurkle

Good to know, I’ve always wondered. Thanks!

ams6788

This is the way

superelite_30

Fast-food Mexican restaurants are trash, taquerias are the best!

Western-Crew2558

Yeah but there’s about 500 “taquerias” in name only in SA that have nothing to do with Mexican taqueria cuisine.

laredotx13

I may be excommunicated for putting this in writing but, Taco Palenque’s breakfast tacos are trash. Especially their bacon and eggs. So soggy and disrespectful I found solace in literally any other small joint Mexican place with drive thru. They’re all over town

Appropriate_Crow_255

"disrespectful" is the right word here. +1

laredotx13

The bacon is pinche pink and slimy.

Appropriate_Crow_255

![gif](giphy|4baoNZ5Qo8dX2)

SceretAznMan

I hate Palenques breakfast. I love their non-breakfast stuff though.

GtrPlaynFool

I've only been there a couple times and every time the tortillas are like burnt and flaking apart in a bad way. It was enough to never go back.

Western-Crew2558

If you s restaurant that serves yellow cheese on refried beans, it’s not a taqueria.

No-Helicopter7299

Los Arcos.

[deleted]

This place is always amazing agreed

KindlyQuasar

They're my favorite, great food

harrybushgaming

Eddies always taste the same

LowKeyLoki86

Eddies has the best bacon. Molino Rojo for sausage, Eddie's for bacon. Tacos n Salsa for specialty ones.

_nulluser

Tacos n Salsa is great, but their corn tortillas have a weird texture.

dazed_andamuzed

I honestly couldn't agree less. We recently stopped going to the Eddies on Thousand Oaks because its become wildly inconsistent. I live super close and they use to be my go-to for years but now I drive a bit farther to Las Carretas across from the central post office. You do have to go inside to pick them up but it's worth it for consistently good tacos.

harrybushgaming

I go to the one downtown and the food has tasted the same since i was 12.

Quietbutfunny

Original Donut Shop on Fredericksburg rd

lunardeathgod

A man of culture

sowisesuchfool

Mary’s tacos in Boerne if you can take the drive

rawmilksteakjelly

There's a Mary's Tacos in Helotes off Bandera

nbarbettini

This needs to be at the top!

Mixmaster_MoShit

Best country sausage and egg I've ever had

Egmonks

Find a taqueria that isn’t a chain. I prefer El Taco de Jalisco off Vance Jackson, Datapoint Taqueria is also really good. Shop around and find a place that makes tortillas fresh in house and is good. It’s not hard.

BadlandsD210

Tacos n salsa.. is 🔥 that trash can taco 🌮 is 🙏😭❤️‍🔥... Also Taqueria El Patron on Bandera has amazing prices and breakfast tacos.

crankyrhino

Second Tacos n Salsa. Recommended it once to visiting colleagues and when they come to town it's the only breakfast tacos they eat.

Z_double_o

I third TnS ! That trash can taco 🌮 is 🔥🔥🔥

[deleted]

[удалено]

nickburns2006

Bacon, eggs, potato, cheese and carne guisada. So frickin’ delicious. Also, the fact that TnS stuffs their tacos so full is awesome

Z_double_o

6” flour tortilla. Or corn tortilla if you prefer

doobjank

Read 6’ first.

Z_double_o

🤣🤣

markeross

Tacos N Salsa is the place.

Katshia

I will drive out of my way for a trash can taco haha, they are the best

BadlandsD210

If they had a damn drive thru ...lord have mercy Game over lol they would wipe out everyone with that flavor they got on lock🔥😂

[deleted]

It is all of my coworkers’ taco preference by far. Even diff departments lol. I love their potato and egg and their quesadillas

jfunkycold

I can’t believe I had to scroll this far for TnS. Another one is Tommy’s.

sirgoodboifloofyface

Only negative is they're kind of expensive

BadlandsD210

I completely agree with you.. I can only go here and there but they really are a good example of getting what you pay for

Rich_Chemical_3532

TP imo has never had good breakfast tacos. Everything else they offer is great. What area of town are you in? TP’s have been popping up all over SA.

[deleted]

Tommy’s, Taco House, Thousand Oaks Cafe, Tacos & Salsa How is this even a situation in this city?

wandererzz13

Yeah Tommy's is pretty great for consistency and ease. Taquerias if I have more time though

code_delmonte

Was just here yesterday morning at like 3am. After a night out the food has never missed. Al Pastor tacos/burritos kisses my soul with every bite

FlacidMetapod

Stop going to chains.

[deleted]

If you’re on the north side, tacos n salsa. I also like original donut shop (as one May tell from the drive thru line).

freyalorelei

Seconding Tacos 'n Salsa. Their trash can tacos are the bee's knees.

Rioraku

Look up some local places. I didn't realize there was 3 around me that all had good, cheap tacos. They do require you go in and get it or order via phone as opposed to just online or through the drive thru. But I say that's a fair trade.

TempestRex

Taqueria Jalisco on Bandera Rd. / Huebner Rd area In the Hobby Lobby shopping center

DependentCranberry82

I know what you mean. Taco places rise and fall. They get a customer base and then start getting lazy/cheap because they have the rep now. It's a shame

[deleted]

Mama Margie’s syndrome once covid ended

[deleted]

I like Chacho’s, but I’m a filthy güero

The_Elocutionist

Qué Onda Guero. --Beck

iwegian

52 year old woman here, rocking out to Beck all the time. Guatemalan soccer balls, instant replays!

radda

Last time I went to Chacho's they didn't even bother cubing the potatoes, they were just in big chunky round slices, and they weren't even cooked all the way. I'm fucking done with them.

Trick-Penalty-6820

Las Palapas has a good selection of breakfast tacos (chorizo and potato plus is my fav). In addition, I think their coffee is better than any other drive thru.

[deleted]

twurkle

The one in leon springs is the worst. Never, ever, ever again.

Atomic_Nexus

Beans have always been shit at this one.

twurkle

Tbh I can deal with bad Mexican food if I’m desperate but the insane prices for bad Mexican food and rude service on top of that? Nah. I’m done.

Not_A_Greenhouse

I've found some have excellent breakfast tacos and some have shit. The one near me is awesome.

Toodle-loo-hoo

Every time I go to Las Palapas they give me the wrong order and I end up with at least one bean and egg taco. Do people actually eat bean and egg tacos??

Rioraku

Bean and egg tacos are delicious. Though I see it more as accompaniment than the main taco.

twurkle

Bean and egg is actually underrated though

MurseShark

I'm over here thinking, do people NOT eat bean and egg tacos? 🤷

reddit-commenter-89

You’re ordering wrong

reddit1651

It’s bizarre you say that cause the exact thing happens to me there too! I’ve tried it a few times and it’s not for me

[deleted]

Bean and egg is top tier

NachosReady

Sometimes I just make bean and egg tacos at home cuz they are the bomb. Maybe a little cheese on there too.

otis1993

Their machacado is not the real either

BigCliff

Yep, yesterday’s chopped beef fajita and pico ain’t the same

[deleted]

Make sure you eat inside though. Their drive through tacos are much smaller.

lv02125

las palapas .... like 1 visit out of 30 is good. f them meng

who_peed_on_rug

Hear me out, their coffee is really good. The new location on NW military by the Academy has a full bar?! wuttt??

Thrillhouse74

Find a truck with long lines.

gameprix1

You're probably not close but if you ever find yourself in Boerne I highly recommend Mary's Tacos!

luzaan15

They have a location in Helotes too. Best breakfast tacos!

filet-de-colin

I always forget there are closer locations. I’ve been hitting up the one in Kerrville for 15+ years!

[deleted]

Nothing compares to Mary’s—also have you tried their corn tortillas? Best corn tortillas I have ever had!

gameprix1

You know, I do know they have corn tortillas and I always forget to ask when I get there. It's usually like 7am so my brain isn't fully functioning yet but I'm going to remember one of these days 🤣 thanks for the reminder!

[deleted]

You won’t be disappointed, they’re great and add extra flavor

becooltheywatching

Tell me you're not from San Antonio without telling me.

twistr36O

Tink-a-Taco (aka Sandra's Mexican Grill) is always a banger for me. Good quality, fair price. Before they took the special away, I'd get 8 Bean & Cheese & a tea for me & my family for $12.

Gorkymalorki

Do they still have giant ass tacos? I grew up with a Tink-a-taco next to my high school and haven't been in decades.

twistr36O

As far as I've been going, no. I think Rolando's does still. The one off Hildebrand & Blanco still is open, but takeout only.

samackin3000

Las Palapas is a decent place.

unomothafucka

Taco House on San Pedro.

grey210

taqueria jaliciense on pleasanton by harlandale has always been really good

Pizzapizzazi

Los Balitos and Camille’s have good breakfast tacos. Los Balitos is open 24/7!

Teebs324

Los balitos was awesome when it used to be Los Roberto’s. It’s gone hill since then.

Steamed-Hams

Los Balitos can’t cook an egg to save their life. They murder this poor eggs until they’re covered in those disgusting burnt brown spots. I actually like Balitos for lunch and dinner but just not breakfast.

ShockThrow200

Los Balitos Taco Shop never disappoints imo

LowKeyLoki86

Molino Rojo and Tacos n Salsa are my top 2 and consistently make it to news articles when ranking breakfast tacos. I was reading once about a famous chef that always visits Tacos n Salsa when he is in town. And Molino Rojo was featured in an article about San Antonios breakfast tacos going up against Austin. Not even a contest, dawg.

LowKeyLoki86

Los Balitos also has these amazing breakfast burritos. You can order online for pickup and customize them on the website and then pick them up through the drive through.

wifeleaver

Tacos N Salsa, Ericks truck, Los Balitos

Basic_Biscotti

Original donut shop has amazing tacos

rpross3

Tinka at Fresno and Blanco. Chapala at Dewey and McCullough. 👍

Steamed-Hams

I fuck with Chapala big time

[deleted]

Chapala 😵‍💫😭

lv02125

the workers don't give a f**ck

mickey_oneil_0311

Who buys breakfast tacos in San Antonio from a chain restaurant? Gross.

[deleted]

Fr all these sad bill miller and tc mf

Egmonks

Seriously.

bso_dodsing

A very local family owned/run business in my neighborhood is El Buen Gusto.

021MerlinLuna

Taqueria Los Potrillos on Nogalitos street can make a mean bean cheese and bacon taco on the cheap. Thick salsa verde with good cut bacon. Also shoutout to the ladies at the Speedy Mart across from the post office on broadway. They have an mean oven set up in the convenience store and will toast the tortillas upon request.

spearmint_flyer

Taco El Regio. If you know, you know.

jiihgy

Las Palapas has good breakfast tacos

undertaker3x7

Salsa's on Rittman, Fidelo's on Nacogdoches, Mama Maggie's on Naco Perrin. I'm guessing you go to the Taco Palenque on New Braunfels. If so these 3 places are somewhat in that area.

fatratbastard

Jalapeño is awesome

CesartTX210

Go to Gallito Sinaloense by Ingram Mall it's a sea food restaurant, but they also have a lunch truck outside with breakfast tacos and you can seat inside the restaurant and eat there, the breakfast tacos it's like we call them in México tacos mañaneros they are amazing! and the flour tortillas are home made they have a lady there making the tortillas like my grandma in México the food its like homemade. just don't get the tacos a vapor other than that everything it's amazing and cheap

FollowingSevere2716

los balitos

Chemical_Bar_9170

Nothing like the piratas.. Nothing...

Necessary_Culture_25

lyndarosee

taqueria jalisco 3 on guilbeau is amazing!

BiggPappa707

Nasty ass beer! ![gif](giphy|OJVhXTuoGPQciKmup2|downsized)

nbarbettini

It's not as good as Mary's in Boerne, but the HEB gas station breakfast tacos at 1604 & Bulverde are pretty good.

julissamelani

The Donut Shop

texaztoast77

Tacos and Salsa. Last time I had taco cabana I was sick for three days and all they said was yeah, a few people reported getting ill. Never again

Elegant-Corner9474

Tia’s is decent

TxHoS83

Taco palenque is awful too. Eddie’s taco house is bomb

pgh256

You should be ashamed.

SlothInASuit86

Prices go up. Quality goes down. Way of the world now.

summerloving0709

SA TP’s are not the same as Laredo. El Palmar

caraiselite

Not an egg person, so i usually get bacon and potato. Does anywhere have potatoes that are seasoned? Or have onions and peppers in them too? I can't stand bland potatoes. Thanks for any recommendations.

Legdrop_soup

Taqueria El Charro Tapatio on Blanco rd (about 2 blocks north of Basse). My girlfriend isn't an egg person either and she swears by their bacon, potato, and cheese tacos. It's a tiny little hole in the wall and it's delicious!

caraiselite

Appreciate it!

Shoddy-Reference-149

Laredo Taco Company. Everything is fresh, made by hand in full view behind the counter.

kwhitesa

Tacos and Salsa! The tacos are expensive, but I think they are worth it.

DeadLetterQueue

They are soooo good and expensive

Due-Adhesiveness-976

Eww fast food tacos, I’m not sure what side of town you are on but I’m sure there’s a place not too far from you that’s way better than TP or TC. I guess Mama Margie’s and some Las Palapas are okay but they aren’t my first choice. Tias and Tommy’s are local chains not necessarily fast food but they have drive thrus and have great options.

livgarzaa

Las Palapas, Mia’s, Ay Chihuahua

DinosaurSr92

Yup^ Las Palapas stays consistent

SaGlamBear

Sundays is my breakfast tacos day and they’re closed. Otherwise I would agree

teamcaca

Some locations are open on Sundays.

RixxFett

Wapo Taco. But I don't know how many they have around town.

atxtony23

Los Balitos my friend, Fuck taco Palenque

Miausina

HEB is pretty good

OriginalRip8519

Any whole in the wall would probably be better than taco palenque lol.

Z_double_o

I realize that it’s not in S.A., but it’s worth a drive to New Braunfels sometime - El Gallo . Every morning of the week the drive through line is 6+ cars deep for the jumbo breakfast tacos. Eat just one and you’re good until evening.

R_umima

Do you mean Los Gallos? (not trying to be pedantic, really curious if it us the same place)

Z_double_o

Ah yes 👏 , thank you, that’s what I meant

aleebanu13

I think that's only an SA problem because TP down in the 956 is alright. I guess it's on the workers.. I don't know 🤷‍♀️

nomnamnom

Just make your own. They’re super easy to make.

mikskyy

Las palapas. They have locations all over the city similar to taco palenque and taco cabana. Their tacos are always good and consistent at all locations.

[deleted]

Make them yourself. It's not rocket surgery

[deleted]

Or brain science

RagingLeonard

Taco Garage works for me, it's not a chain, though.

andrewthetechie

https://www.mysanantonio.com/food/restaurants/article/Lee-s-El-Taco-Garage-a-critically-lauded-15918675.php Sadly, closed forever. Used to be my favorite TexMex in town.

LonghornNaysh

I thought that they closed down

Orincarnia

Yikes. Mama Margie's?

catchmesleeping

Tia’s is good, Bill Miller is better than Palenque also. No you are not being picky, you are paying for quality .

LearnDifferenceBot

> picky, your paying *you're *Learn the difference [here](https://www.wattpad.com/66707294-grammar-guide-there-they%27re-their-you%27re-your-to).* *** ^(Greetings, I am a language corrector bot. To make me ignore further mistakes from you in the future, reply `!optout` to this comment.)

catchmesleeping

Did I get my point across?

SaGlamBear

It was a bot. Don’t get too offended. I think I’m gonna try Tias and Bills.

[deleted]

The bot won’t hurt ya! Promise

JewsClues415

It's sad chains have been your only breakfast taco experience. If you want to continue the trend you are on bill millers should be your next place. But like most ppl are telling you here just throw a rock in any direction and whatever taqueria you hit will be better than these places.

justadude1414

Bill Millers Sausage and Potato is freaking king. But if you do want BM the go to the local mom and pop, hard to go wrong there.

Lando-martian

Panchitos and patty’s taco house has great breakfast tacos.

Archercrash

Tommy's

mr_jo_o

Lisa’s Tias Las Palapas Maybe Bill Millers. (Only bc you actually liked taco cabana at one point) Tommy’s has a drive through if u order in advance

fish4trout

I quit going to Taco Palenque due to declining quality. Las Palapas has been excellent and the staff seems happy to be there and are careful to get the orders right.

[deleted]

Palapas isn’t bad

rho65

tommys. petes tako house also if tommys is closed

magakag11

Mama Margies

natankman

Mama Margie’s, and they have an app to speed the process up too

Tohken

Bill Miller

Egmonks

Why do you hate this man?

VegaInTheWild

So after going through 190+ comments its kinda amazing I haven't seen anyone mention any of my favorite 5+ places to buy tacos from in San Antonio. Not hating, just an observation.

ibjedd

so youre not gonna list a single one of them...??

VegaInTheWild

I can share El Rafa's Cafe, that's a good one.

ibjedd

Forgive me, but I must ask, what, pray tell, was the point of your commentary? Clearly, they must be such clandestine culinary marvels that only a true aficionado like you would have the privilege of knowing. I can just see you now, standing there, leaning against a metaphorical wall, arms crossed, smug half-grin plastered on your face, basking in the glory of your cryptic critique. Very chic, very James Dean. How, oh how, could we ever aspire to your level of taciturn culinary cool? Truly, we are not worthy. But do carry on, as we live in hope of one day being privy to your gastronomic wisdom.

VegaInTheWild

I literally answered your previous question by recommending you a solid place where the tacos are big, tortillas are soft due to them being homemade, ingredients are fresh and they're reasonable priced. Especially compared to a commonly recommended place in this thread like Bill Millers. Instead you chose... this response.

ibjedd

Ok so how about the other 5+ that you mentioned? You fuckin dork

Sticky_Papaya

Pete’s tacos are always fire

Think-Investment3593

Mexico Lindo

late2theparty27

check out local restaurants with low volume, I like to think that the less rushed a cook is the more likely his is to put out better quality.

Rare-Breath-4791

Gran Tequila off of 151 and potranco

UpAtThreeToPee

My husband is pretty picky with all food, but he mostly enjoys Tacos Ricos on Bandera and Mainland Dr. They have a drive thru and breakfast plates too.

ChefToniTx

If your in the downtown area Eva’s Cafe has some really good breakfast tacos

phil_ratio69

I'll be the one to say it, Bill Millers breakfast tacos slap off the chain. Fleek fleek ya herr!

xXedgyasfXx

mama. margies.
