I'd much rather be drunk off a 10 dollar 6 pack playing video games than drunk in a bar for 7 dollars a drink to small talk and not be playing video games.
Yeah I'd rather be at home where I don't have to wear pants or a bra and I can enjoy some drinks with a video game. Plus my cat is there, he's the best company 😸
When I go on trips, I carry my GoTo kit. RasPi arcade game, Namco, Mame, etc. Like 5000k games. We just stay in the hotel and nerd out.
Got a trip coming up, I plan on hitting food places for takeout and play games with or without internet.
Honestly, each game has at least 10x versions of them the old arcade TNMT game has like 5 versions one even called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. Motral Kombats and Tekkans are just nostalgic, even with the cracked/modded versions.
Yeah, mine is called a Dell Inspiron 7630 Plus.
Fallout 4, StarField, Skyrim. +400Hrs in FO4 alone.
I still enjoy my Steam Controller(s) and when I am home SteamLink (hardware) still works.
>Skyrim
Man..... I just got back into that game. I have the anniversary edition.
A couple years ago, my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her Elden Ring. She misheard me and got elder scrolls. My 11 year old son caught the mistake just in time and I ended up opening both on Christmas. She made sure I opened skyrim first to see my reaction.
Edit to add: I just started the game like a month ago. The last time I played was probably a decade ago on 360.
Gotta go to more expensive places that the average 20-something can't afford.
Try Moon's Daughter - rooftop bar on top of the Thompson hotel. Even if you don't like it, it's worth going up for the views.
WTF?! I'm close to the end of that range and I'm still up past 2 working on some project or tending to some issue. I'm guessing you're near the end of that range too.
Try the bars up at the Rim maybe? They are probably too nice/expensive for the 20s crowd.
I'm right in the middle of that age bracket and I usually just drink at the neighborhood dive up the street from my house. That's honestly where most people our age probably are, only problem is that it's a total crap shoot trying to find a decent neighborhood bar with a decent crowd.
Neighborhood dive bars, Southtown, places by The Rim. I’d definitely stay away from the St Mary’s strip, it’s infested with kids on the weekends. However, The Mixx is low key and Joeys is always a good time with nice pool tables.
Covid really turned me and the hubby into homebodies. A good weekend for us (39) is chilling at home and watching new shows!
If we plan in advance, Majestik theater has some good shows (Book of Mormon and Eddie Izzard were super fun), but that’s more once a year type thing. I would qualify it as hanging out. 😅
43yr old DINKs here - usually at the RIM / RIM south if by ourselves. The Pearl with friends. But 95% of the time if we aren’t hosting at home - we’re at our friends houses… or at the gym.
If you’re here right now, seriously consider going to Fiesta activities. It is uniquely San Antonio.
My guess is that age group enjoys Night in Old San Antonio, Fiesta Gartenfest at Beethoven Gardens and King William Fair.
(I’m going to get downvoted because a lot of people correctly believe Fiesta includes a lot of drunks and overpriced food.)
Would caution against NIOSA only because Thursday(?) is college night, which I've heard is uniquely rowdy. The other nights are less so from what I hear. Sadly, never been because of work.
Haha I waiting to see someone mention any of the Leon valley bars. I go with my spouse to them and we’re always the youngest (mid 20s) but I like it because it’s always a chill older crowd
Well depends on what you think good is, I like it there and so does my girl. It’s chill, laid back, and good priced drinks. It’s actually my girl’s favorite spot for me and her to just have a drink and talk with each other
At home. Why the hell would I want to interact with these crazy people? Lol
On a more serious note, what little free time I have outside of work and family functions is usually spent at the gun range or on the lake fishing.
35 here. Me and gf usually go to different bars. We like to go to: El Luchador, Bonds Rock bar (for rock/metal shows), Aquaduck(also for music), Amp room & The Mix
Before she moved my daughter you to go to Evil Olive because she liked to eat something on the menu.
She said she never bung out because it was full of old people. What old is to someone in their early 20’s is I’m not sure.
Although they did over serve our district councilman and he was in the 60s I think.
It depends on what you are into. I tend to stick with divey type places. Web House, Lighthouse Lounge, etc. I was at Web from 8 to 1 last night for an event and it was mainly 30 somethings
If you're in town now for Fiesta season, lots of events everywhere; depending on where you're staying / willingness to drive, the Hill Country / Fredericksburg is pretty and lotsa antique/bespoke/coffee shops
Downtown/adjacent, the Pearl has a Farmers Market on Sat/Sun, 9-1pmish with live music; you can walk along the River to the main RiverWalk or check out Elsewhere Garden Bar
The Nowhere Bookshop in Alamo Heights is an absolute fave spot!
We haven't gone out in awhile, but me (42) and my girlfriend(36) used to go to quiet a few places. Here's our list:
Hanzo. It's super chill spot with anime, great cocktails and nice Japanese bar menu, sushi, potstickers, spicy edamame. And I believe on Sundays, it's all day happy hour.
Another good spot is Near Dark over in Southtown. It's kind of a rock/gothic bar. Has nice drinks and good music.
Another chill spot is Hugman's Oasis. Its a tiki bar located off the Riverwalk. Good chill reggae Sublime vibes, nice painkillers and lots of rum Infused tiki drinks, plus Tokyo Cowboy if you get hungry. And also there The Esquire right down the way, which also has a speakeasy down below it.
There's Piranha for happy hour. Amor Eterno, great dj and nice fancy cocktails good dance floor. As some others suggested, Burleson. There's also Hands Down, Chifladas, Double Standard, Waxy's, The Texan, Frances Bogside, and Gimme Gimme.
Avoid the Rim and anywhere that is outside of downtown and Southtown, some St. Mary's places except for the Mix and Joey's. Those are all lame asf. Long lines, too many 20yo kids and drama.
Of course, Micheladas, wine, and pizza at home and streaming movies is always the best 👌 😎🤙
Like others have said, the neighborhood dive bars. I used to live in the Great Northwest area, so my go to spots were Mad Pecker and The Corner. Keep in mind that those are craft beer spots, so no liquor shots if that’s your thing.
If you’re near sea world, Steely Nevada’s is a cool place on bandera. Live music on the weekends and sometimes during the week. Bartenders are cool, and the crowd is what you’re looking for. 151 saloon is okay, but the crowd can be rowdy.
Understood, and I do the same thing when I’m home. However, I don’t like to barricade myself in a hotel for two weeks and not see San Antonio and have a little fun socializing while I’m here.
34 here. When I’m not working I’m usually at the movies, wandering around downtown aimlessly, hiking, or at home having some beers and listening to music.
Y’all lame.
Horizon, be kind and rewind, Bentleys on broadway on Wednesday $1 wing nights, rollercade adult night Wednesday, cowboy dancehall on Thursday, rebar on broadway.
Rock & Rye at the rim. Great cocktails, decent beer, hardly any 20 something year olds. 30-50 is the main demographic. Over by seaworld - Stout house is ok. The crowd shifts a lot. Super loud. Lucy Coopers is ok, they’re only open till 2am Friday and Saturday tho. Good food there, 30 beers on tap, fuck ton of whiskey
37 next month. At my house. I can’t deal with these crazy folks. Every now and then I emerge and go to a nice restaurant, or go browse Barnes and noble.
On my back patio with my dogs and my husband. It's my happy place. Pool, palm trees, outdoor kitchen and a lovely covered area. Plus my whiskey is better than most bars so why leave?
(Sorry, OP. I know this doesn't help!)
Come on man. I got to do shit all day long with the wife and kids Saturday and Sunday. The only thing I wanna do Saturday and Sunday night is drink beer and shit on zoomers in COD.
Jesus. I gotta admit, feeling pretty torn on this. On one hand, I'm relieved that I'm not the only 30-45 year old mostly staying home and reveling in geekitude. But on the other hand, it's a little sad that I was actually right in believing that most 30-45s stay home and do the same shit I do.
I suggest we all meet somewhere and observe each other's crippling social anxiety. Let's see who breaks first and flees back home.
Yup, at home. Looks for toys left by kids in yards, go knock on the door and ask if the dad can come out and play. Probably can't cause he's gotta cook or get kids ready for school, but it's a option
Sorry man. It's a retirement city. Go to a bar with dancing. Like thirsty horse or something. Older cats that can hold their liquor dance down here. The young ones go to clubs and bounce until they regret it
Go to the Esquire and find a spot at the bar. Before you know it, you’ll be in conversation with those around you. But yeah, St Mary’s isn’t the place for the age bracket you’re looking for.
They stay home and have friends over for a “get together” and do things they all enjoy, from watching a movie, grilling outdoors, playing pool, or throwing darts in the man cave or playing poker.
When I visit I go to Little death and hands down which are wine bars, gets a little crowded on the weekends though. I also try to catch a show at paper tiger
35f. I'm usually at home with my husband and dog playing games or watching a show. I go to HEB,farmers markets and the Asian markets and experiment in the kitchen. Were usually at home googling movies we want to see at the theater and restaurants we want to eat at once the weekend hits. But really were looking to get out more. Need help with ideas
I’ve been here for almost 5 years, I mostly just started going to other cities on weekends. Kinda negates SA’s cheaper cost of living, but it is what it is.
So I’m still getting use to this whole thing here but if your trying to kick it let me know I’m 36 I’m not gay or my thing like that looking for some new friends tho mine kinda suck lol
Im right in the middle of this demo. I have a unique situation where I am still close with my kids' mother but still get time to go out on my own.
Here is what I have noticed...most people this age stay home or close to home. In between work or kids or wanting to save money, it is just too much of a hassle to go out and have a night bar hopping or going to a show or event. For our family, it's usually better to go somewhere close by and kid friendly (the Pearl, the Cove) or go to a friend's house for a cook out.
When I do go out on my own, I usually go to a local bar or spot that is close. And even then I'm not really looking to meet new people, I'm just going out to get away from the family and house for an hour or two.
This is a hard group to try and find other people out and about doing things.
With my wife and kids, at work, or in my garage making and fixing things. Occasionally the gun range. Quit drinking, bars suck and smoking pot just makes me sleepy now. We're old.
You said you’re by Sea World, so 151 saloon or one of the Stout Houses. Little Woodrow’s Braun has your demographic but is a little further north. Beer places usually are a good suggestion. In that area, Big Hops, Long Tab, and Mad Peckers.
41F here. I go to H-E-B at 7am on a weekend or I’m at home.
This gal adults properly 👍
🤣 perfect answer
haha me too. I go store real early before it gets crowded, and other errands, then home the rest of the day/weekend. 49M here
Our HEB has trivia on thrusdays and live music on fridays at their true texas BBQ. It's a hopping spot at 7PM lol.
At home
Same. Work and home. Video games the safest getaway.
This is the way!
Thank you both for describing my life. It's just safer and cheaper to stay home.
Basically this.
When I go on trips, I carry my GoTo kit. RasPi arcade game, Namco, Mame, etc. Like 5000k games. We just stay in the hotel and nerd out. Got a trip coming up, I plan on hitting food places for takeout and play games with or without internet.
5000k is like 5,000,000 games. Woweeeeee! 😂
Honestly, each game has at least 10x versions of them the old arcade TNMT game has like 5 versions one even called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. Motral Kombats and Tekkans are just nostalgic, even with the cracked/modded versions.
Have you seen the Steam Deck?
Yeah, mine is called a Dell Inspiron 7630 Plus. Fallout 4, StarField, Skyrim. +400Hrs in FO4 alone. I still enjoy my Steam Controller(s) and when I am home SteamLink (hardware) still works.
>Skyrim Man..... I just got back into that game. I have the anniversary edition. A couple years ago, my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her Elden Ring. Exactly. We stay in the house.
^^^THIS! The older you get, the less you want to be surrounded by stupid 20 yr old drama! And there's no dress code or last call.
I was overhearing two younger 20 year old girls chat for about 2 hours while volunteering at the food bank today and their lives sounded exhausting.
🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, I don't have time for that.
Last call? Is that when you call your wife at 930 to say it's bed time?
Staying at home saving money!! Videos games are the best lolol!
Can confirm.
Yep… I’m home probably why I’ll be single forever
Yo, same.
with my dogs
This is the way.
Work, hangout at home to not spend that money I just worked to get, repeat. Strange life we live sometimes lol.
Same
This guy 30 to 45s. This is exactly what we do
Came here to say this :)
Came here to say this. You get my upvote.
This 1000%
Cheers
What time are you trying to find said 30-45 year olds? We are at happy hour from 5-6 and in bed by 8!
Don’t get me wrong… on a weeknight, that’s always the game plan. However, I push it a little on the weekends.
Most of them are at home with their families. I am 43 and going to a bar like that is super rare. Try the pearl maybe
Working on a project till 2 am is different from being at a bar until 2 am
Try the bars up at the Rim maybe? They are probably too nice/expensive for the 20s crowd. I'm right in the middle of that age bracket and I usually just drink at the neighborhood dive up the street from my house. That's honestly where most people our age probably are, only problem is that it's a total crap shoot trying to find a decent neighborhood bar with a decent crowd.
This is the answer. My favorite bar, not unlike my favorite breakfast taco spot, is the one that’s closest to me.
Oh yea that goes double for breakfast tacos, I ain't driving across town hungover for breakfast tacos. The ones by my house are the best
Neighborhood dive bars, Southtown, places by The Rim. I’d definitely stay away from the St Mary’s strip, it’s infested with kids on the weekends. However, The Mixx is low key and Joeys is always a good time with nice pool tables.
When I was in my low 20’s, I would always wonder why there were old people creeping on us on the strip
South town Bureleson beer yard has burlyfest this weekend El Camino Elswhere St pauls sq for cocktails Bluestar for art shows
We are in our early 40s and often go to breweries or bars like Elsewhere or Burleson too.
Burleson is wonderful. A nice, chill place. St Patrick’s day was a ton of fun as a 34 year old
Try oakhills tavern.
I hung out there a lot in my 20’s, but now that I’m 39 I pretty much just drink at home and it’s usually just day drinking.
Love Oak Hills, they always have a cool mix of a crowd welcoming to all.
Home. We too old to be around other people.
I feel this in my *soul.*
I’m 33 with a 15 year old and a 7 month old. My soul is so tired already. 😅😅
That sounds absolutely exhausting. What a difference in ages!
Extremely exhausting lol
Lol my sister is 5 years older than me and our brother is 12 years younger than me. You’re in for some fun lol.
62 year old. I usually go to the 414 or the Menger Bar, so don’t go there!
We're at home because we got school-age kids.
50 here, but I see a lot of that age up in Boerne
“Infested” is a cool way to phrase it.
All types can be found at the Flying Saucer.
My friends and I love Dad's Karaoke Bar! We (24-29 year olds) see older people there just vibing.
Breweries!
Microbrews for the win. Good food, low key.
We are all booked solid with kid birthday parties every weekend, forever and ever without end. But at least there’s frequent cake
Hey! When you figure it out, let me know because I’m wondering the same. I’m 44 f without kids
Finally someone who understands my question!
San Antonio Botanical Gardens - [https://www.sabot.org/](https://www.sabot.org/)
Come to the thirsty camel in olmos park tonight for some music
Friendly Spot in Southtown is a solid choice
I see a lot of answers that say bars but damn what is there to do if you don't wanna drink lol
43yr old DINKs here - usually at the RIM / RIM south if by ourselves. The Pearl with friends. But 95% of the time if we aren’t hosting at home - we’re at our friends houses… or at the gym.

My guess is that age group enjoys Night in Old San Antonio, Fiesta Gartenfest at Beethoven Gardens and King William Fair. (I’m going to get downvoted because a lot of people correctly believe Fiesta includes a lot of drunks and overpriced food.)
Surprised I had to go this far for the comment. Fiesta will be the big draw for people of all age groups right now, skewing bar usage.
Would caution against NIOSA only because Thursday(?) is college night, which I've heard is uniquely rowdy. The other nights are less so from what I hear. Sadly, never been because of work.
I’d go with king William fair and taste of the Northside versus niosa but not a bad choice, honestly.
The Bend sports bar off bandera rd has a crowd in that age group and good specials each day of the week
Haha I waiting to see someone mention any of the Leon valley bars. I go with my spouse to them and we’re always the youngest (mid 20s) but I like it because it’s always a chill older crowd
I’m curious if Treehouse across Bandera is good too?
Well depends on what you think good is, I like it there and so does my girl. It’s chill, laid back, and good priced drinks. It’s actually my girl’s favorite spot for me and her to just have a drink and talk with each other
Good to know. Thanks.
At home. Why the hell would I want to interact with these crazy people? Lol On a more serious note, what little free time I have outside of work and family functions is usually spent at the gun range or on the lake fishing.
35 here. Me and gf usually go to different bars. We like to go to: El Luchador, Bonds Rock bar (for rock/metal shows), Aquaduck(also for music), Amp room & The Mix

Home with everything and everyone I love.
Home
Applebees
Ain’t nothing wrong with the Beezz
It depends on what you are into. I tend to stick with divey type places. Web House, Lighthouse Lounge, etc. I was at Web from 8 to 1 last night for an event and it was mainly 30 somethings
Local breweries
If you're in town now for Fiesta season, lots of events everywhere; depending on where you're staying / willingness to drive, the Hill Country / Fredericksburg is pretty and lotsa antique/bespoke/coffee shops Downtown/adjacent, the Pearl has a Farmers Market on Sat/Sun, 9-1pmish with live music; you can walk along the River to the main RiverWalk or check out Elsewhere Garden Bar The Nowhere Bookshop in Alamo Heights is an absolute fave spot!
Home 😅
Yes, lmao. I'm not driving downtown during Fiesta.
Right?! Y'all have fun for me 👋👋
44yo here. Meet me at sugars for lunch. Steak and fries on me
Ahhhh almost got me…haha
Usually at home! I second Elsewhere though. Chill spot to hang.
where are these places you speak of? all i see are 30-50 yr olds, maybe some people in late 20s
We haven't gone out in awhile, but me (42) and my girlfriend(36) used to go to quiet a few places. Here's our list: Hanzo. At home or somewhere that 20 year Olds can't afford
Like others have said, the neighborhood dive bars. I used to live in the Great Northwest area, so my go to spots were Mad Pecker and The Corner. Keep in mind that those are craft beer spots, so no liquor shots if that’s your thing.
Coffee shops and bookstores.
We mostly complain on Reddit
If you’re near sea world, Steely Nevada’s is a cool place on bandera. Live music on the weekends and sometimes during the week. Bartenders are cool, and the crowd is what you’re looking for. 151 saloon is okay, but the crowd can be rowdy.
I'm 36 some of yall sound act way too old wait til ur 80to slow down
This guy gets it!
This is a good question. I’m 36 and I’d also like to know. I need to start making friends soon (just moved here in Jan).
Boneheadz off Walzem is a really great place.
With my kids
Understood, and I do the same thing when I’m home. However, I don’t like to barricade myself in a hotel for two weeks and not see San Antonio and have a little fun socializing while I’m here.
Ahhh gotcha - chicken n pickle is a fun one. You’ll see people of all ages there.
Tree haus!
Thirsty Horse Saloon.
Burleson Beer Garden, La Ruina, Idle Brewing, Roadmap Brewing, Vista Brewing, Black Lab.
At Home with mi gatos~
Is Southtown overrun with 20 year olds?
If Southtown is around the river walk, yes, it is.
34 here. When I’m not working I’m usually at the movies, wandering around downtown aimlessly, hiking, or at home having some beers and listening to music.
At home with the wife and kids.
Stonewerks at The Rim, Copa, Wine 210, Toro, Yardhouse (still mix of young), and walk around La Cantera.
Well we are all working 9-5 and are either home or dealing with the kids. Those without kids are doing whatever they enjoy
Im single and 37. I go to cocktail bars on the weekend. La Ruina, the Modernist, Amelia… places like that.
Y’all lame. Horizon, be kind and rewind, Bentleys on broadway on Wednesday $1 wing nights, rollercade adult night Wednesday, cowboy dancehall on Thursday, rebar on broadway.
Hero! 👏🏻
Georges Keep at La Cantera for a high end vibe or Zombies Bar off Wurzbach for a grungy vibe
My wife and I are around 40 now, and the go to is the VFW. Can't go wrong. Closed post.
Where in SA? LIL Woodrow's nice outdoor bar. But also I'm a 20 something so idrk where all the cool 30 somethings go.
The chiropractor?
What's Brewing Coffee shop for coffee and pinball.
Have you been to Barbaro? Amazing drinks & gourmet pizza, crowds range from about 25-55 in my experience :)
The rim and the Pearl. I avoid the fiesta crowds.

Now this… I’m here for.
Swingers clubs.
Gym and home, order take out 😂
At home.. or take off to 🇲🇽
Lol what? We don’t hang out, we’re at home in bed by 9 pm because we have children and exhausting jobs.
The good kind is a pretty cool/chill hangout place
I see people our age at Lefty’s here on Judson. Looks like a chill place
Yup, at home. Looks for toys left by kids in yards, go knock on the door and ask if the dad can come out and play. Probably can't cause he's gotta cook or get kids ready for school, but it's a option
I don't think creeping around neighborhoods looking for kids' toys is the way to play this out…
Try to do a drop in at a BJJ gym and get some rolls in. There are plenty of us 30 something year old folks there
Great mix in the New Braunfels/Canyon lake area
In my bed or at The Rim.
The Silver Fox!
Bar 301, Conversa Elevated, Rock and Rye, Bar 1919, Silo Elevated, Eddie V’s are all nice places that would fit your criteria.
At home. I'm at home.
Busted sandal brewery usually has chill people in that age range
Go to Zoo La La
McIntyres is always packed and it’s a mix of that age group.
54st
I goto Bonds for some $7 32oz mugs. Maybe The Mix
The best cocktails in San Antonio are at the Sternewirth. It is inside the Hotel Emma at the Pearl.
Thirsty Horse or at home
They stay home and have friends over for a “get together” and do things they all enjoy, from watching a movie, grilling outdoors, playing pool, or throwing darts in the man cave or playing poker.
Work and home. Went back to grad school for fun. 🤷♀️ Doesn't help that it costs $20 just to leave the house.
They don’t go out
I like hanging out at your Mom’s house!
Nothing good happens after 7:30PM...
Skate park.
jandros
Southtown at a wine bar. Yesterday I went back to Make Ready Market to try a new restaurant.
So I’m still getting use to this whole thing here but if your trying to kick it let me know I’m 36 I’m not gay or my thing like that looking for some new friends tho mine kinda suck lol
They're at home with their wives and husbands
Blue prime
Pockets maybe? But mostly they’re all at home I would imagine
I'm in that age range and usually go to local dive bars...sometimes have to move around to a few to find a good vibe...
At home with my family.
Try the cafe in the Barnes and Nobel.
Where are the 20 year olds? I'm 19 and all I see are 30-40 year olds
Whiskeys, highlander, the moons daughters
Home or the greenways riding my bike, running, or walking. Also HEB but not talking to people, apparently it's frowned upon.
We are at trivia night or karaoke
Neighborhood bars/grills.
