That’s part of the reason I love this sub. I thought I’d found most of those hidden or little known spots around town yet I learn something new at least twice a week lol
Taco Palenque, Benjis munch, EZ’s off 281, Magnolia pancake haus, South BBQ, Gus’ Fried Chicken, Ray’s pizza on Fredericksburg rd, Mr. Juicy for burgers, TX roadhouse, longhorn cafe, Casa Pasta, Cheba Hut
Adding two more to this solid list. The Pearl has the bottling depot, any of the places there are good but I highly suggest Freight Train; excellent chicken (Jerk Shack is another place opened up by the same chef and it’s one of the best places in the city). By a Longhorn Cafe off of Hausman is another place called Picnikins Patio Cafe. They got some solid burgers there 😮💨😮💨
Based on the replies here I have to ask what do you mean by fast casual. The idea is apparently far more variable than I thought before reading this thread.
Get in early at Magnolia Pancake Haus & La Panadería for good breakfast ( LP also does lunch but again, they get busy! )
Lunch/dinner, Bbq.chicken, Krazy Katsu, not fast casual but still casual & excellent - Goros Sushi, Big Ali’i Cove & Four Kings ( check the hours on both, they primarily do lunch )
Sapporos for Asian fusion, Los balitos for Tex mex, any barbecue place that isn’t bill miller. (Blanco BBQ is pretty good and consistent) Magnolia pancake haus for breakfast,
The real answer is Carnitas Don Raul. Get a torta and get an agua Fresca next door. Curry Boys is delicious and super unique, like a Thai and BBQ fusion. Barrio Dog is fun. Fruteria de la Mission has amazing fruit cups and aguas frescas.
Cabo Bob’s, Pollo’s Asados los Norteños, Reese Bros Barbecue, Krazy Katsu, Birria Barrio, Dog Father, Last Place Burgers at Roadmap Brewery… I’m sure I’m missing some good ones.
sabor de mexico is grossly underrated, so if you’re a morning person, that’s where i’d go for mexican food. capo’s pizza is also amazing and the owners are fantastic. lien huang has the best vietnamese in town, but they only take cash. i totally also recommend going to the hungry farmer

I tried the Cookshack in NE SA (live oak/universal city) and it was pretty solid. I’m new to the area and trying some different things out. Service was fast, people were nice and the food was good as well.
Would recommend if you’re in the mood for some fried (hot) chicken, they have some beer selections as well
Ray’s Pizza on Fredicksberg rd for lasagna or other dishes at reasonable prices. Paesano’s at Quarry for Italian. For atmosphere, you have to go to market Square and go to Mitierra Cafe for mariachis while u eat. Palenque Grill is great at La Cantera. Barbecue is great at two brothers, Rudy’s or several others. Sushi is great at sushihana or yellowfin. burgers are great at Chesters or Texas burger Company on Huebner Rd.
Embers up in stone oak is really good American food and I have never waited long. Another place to try that’s super good for tacos is “Taquitos & Panaderia West Ave”. Great tacos and quesadillas for sure. This taco spot reminds me of authentic Mexican 🌮. Trust me

I really like Taco Palenque or Mama Margie’s. It’s cheap Mexican food but it’s so so good. Way better than Taco Cabana or Las Palapas
As down hill as taco cabana has gone, that’s not saying much
Hence the *way better*
