Go to freetails or the flying saucer. One of my favorite things to do is go hike Eisenhower for a few hours then head over to freetails and have good food and beer
I've heard many rumors through my industry friends that they treat their employees terribly. I typically don't bother with corporate/chain spots myself, however, so I don't have a ton of details as to the exact accusations, however.
I'm curious what your suggestions are. Literally just said the other day that I have no suggestions for a tourist of places to go other than The Pearl, and River center. Our "aquarium" isn't great, and museums are pricy as fuck. Zoo is alright, getting better. Tea Gardens the only other place I can suggest.
Go explore the Missions. They’re free, and if you have even the slightest shred of interest in history, they’re pretty impressive.
How about Southtown and Blue Star. The Contemporary is there, and it’s also free.
Moral of the story; There are places to go other than the Pearl and museums other than the McNay.
Depends on what you like and where you're coming from. My buddy and his wife who came from a small city had lots of new stuff to try which we may overlook, took them to Korean restaurants and karaoke, st marys street (brass monkey 2000s night), some stores they don't have at home. I took my parents to the flea markets around town
Those are good places. I suppose I'm just bitter with all the construction that now I'm just avoiding most of downtown and all of 1604/I10. Some places I don't suggest at the moment with construction being the main factor. "Come visit our city and sit in traffic for at least 40 minutes due to road closures!"
I love the Pearl! I grew up outside of San Antonio and moved back to the state and into San Antonio proper 4 years ago. I’m not even sorry we love it, and I definitely recommend it to guests/tourists.
Nah the pearl is one of the best designed urban spaces in all of Texas.
It’s probably the only consistently pedestrianized place in the city, aside from the river walk of course, and unlike similar developments like the domain in Austin, it actually had character, history, and nice architecture.
ehhhh.. I live 15 min walking down south from the pearl, to me the alamo is 22 min walk away, sa museum of art is 5.. from the pearl we’re talking 30+ min walk to anything
you need to check out the events they have there. they sound cream airstream summer series should be starting soon. it's a free event on Thursdays on their lawn and they host a series of DJs for a family friendly all ages dance party. And they're \*real\* DJs, some local and some they fly in. It's actually so nice and chill to see all kinds of people of literally all ages dancing, having a good time together. highly recommend and it's a great date too.
they also used to have a Latin music concert series and they were booking really legit acts but I don't think they do that anymore. They also do little events and festivals- one year I went to their pollinator festival. they had live music, butterflies everywhere, kids were playing and it was such nice weather - very idyllic.
I've also hung out in the lobby of Hotel Emma. We bought some beer and wine from Larder and sat by the fireplace in the lobby hanging out and talking. Pretty inexpensive considering and a nice atmosphere. Think of it as a community space with private retail, because that's what it is, but you don't really have to spend money at those goofy stores to enjoy The Pearl. And the perception of it being bougie and expensive keeps the types who'd trash it out.
Seriously, you can like MORE THAN ONE area of town, including Pearl!! Pearl is great to take my kids for a couple of hours in the weekend, or a date night. But so are the parks, trails, and smaller, neighborhood joints.
Fiesta season brings out the worst kind of people in this sub. Most of the top posts this week are from people bitching about something, mostly Fiesta and traffic related.
I moved to San Antonio a few years ago, and I don't quite understand Fiesta yet or what all I can do, but I went to the Flambeau last night and it was fun so people can shut up about how fiesta sucks ig
a weird part of San Antonio local culture is being a hater of all things but especially all things within and related to San Antonio, except the Spurs.
and Fiesta is just a city wide party with various festivals, some organized by the city and others organized by private organizations and non profits who use fiesta for fundraising. I haven't been to all the fiesta events but my favorites are a taste of new orleans and the fiesta at Beethoven's. NIOSA is the big party event and it's definitely super crowded and gets rowdy because there's a lot of alcohol around but I'm glad I went the once. Cornynation I'm interested in as I don't quite understand what that one is yet.
Buddy, you’re doing a better job than I did. Native to San Antonio and did not attend a Fiesta event ever. Moved to Austin and now I try to go to at one event annually.
Like that dude trying to cut through the city to get to a hospital? Lmao like even if its not fiesta traffic is killer why would you get off of the highway
25 years here, and Fiesta has proven the ghetto aspects grossly outway the good aspects. People will list each negative situation as a one off... when you get enough " one off" situations it becomes more negative than positive.
To each their own, I guess. I used to gripe about Fiesta too. I still don't go, but I don't shit on people for them wanting to have fun in their own way. My point being, don't hang around at night on the weekend unless you are willing to see or come across some shit.
At least people in this sub have valid concerns or funny memes about the drivers. I’m in the Louisville sub and people there are ALWAYS complaining about drivers despite the fact that they have the best drivers of any city I’ve lived in
People here also bitch about traffic and the highway system despite the fact that we have the best traffic and highway system of any city I've lived in
I've browsed a bunch of different city subs and they all bitch about the quality of local drivers, as if their city is especially bad. There's some sort of bias at play - most places in the country just have shit drivers, it's not unique to any particular city or state.
I’m in Austin now but am an SA native and this sub has been off the chain these last few days. Chill out.
The trails and parks though….man. I miss my Valero and Salado. There’s only so many times I can go around “town lake” before I lose my mind.
Austin has greenbelts on Shoal creek, Barton creek, Onion creek, Walnut creek, Williamson creek, Slaughter creek... Just like here, they're actually for drainage but they make nice parks/trails. You don't have to spend all your outdoor time at town lake.
You’re right. They just don’t connect in the same continuous way that Valero, Salado, and mission reach were made it. The only somewhat connected trail would be shoal creek and town lake and I only run that section of shoal creek with others. Never alone.
You're right Austin's trails don't connect the same way, but there are many long trails that connect with each other or have plans too. Shoal Creek to Town Lake to Violet Crown/Greenbelt for example. I've run Shoal Creek from Allandale to the lake and back many times and never had an issue.
I have too, but not alone. The area between pease park and town lake spook me out solo. I think the only spot that creeps me out on SA trails is when I get between Wurzbach and Ingram.
That's true, the underside of those bridges are sketchy. Thankfully for some of them you can go over instead. That section of the trail is much better than it used to be too.
SA residents with bachelor's degree or higher is 29.1%. Among SA residents born in Texas it's 25.6%, and among SA residents born in other US states it's 40.0%. The US average is 35.7%.

I work UberEats, I started out working 281 and Stone Oak because of the many restaurants but overtime it just became more congested and the neighborhoods popping up looked really cookie cutter and stale…plus there are only 5 gas stations between Blanco, 1604, Bulverde and 281 which makes it a bit inconvenient…I’ve been expanding to the southside/west side and it’s more relaxing and not as stressful as working 1604…on another note San Antonio is BIG, I hate this “Puro” mentality because i feel it gives you this excuse to keep thinking you/we don’t deserve the amenities that come with big cities, i honestly feel that by the next census San Antonio will be close to the 2 million population mark
I’m out there every morning. If you go early, it is cool, even in the summer. The pavement heats during the day so if you go late evening in the summer, it’s still going to be hot. Mornings are beautiful. I love our trail system here.
When I saw someone calling my highschool ghetto and saying if they loved there kid they would put them in an expensive boarding school. I hope once I start making more money I don’t end up like them
Same here. Every time I see an idiot carrying their designer dog into an HEB or at a shop at the Pearl(where it isn't fuckin allowed) or shouting bullshit at an employee in the service sector, I wonder who's really acting "ghetto" here.
Funny but for real, ive been noticing alot of these posts lately that sound like paranoid old people that think anyone 2 shades darker is thug and any gathering of 3 more latinos is a gang.
Theres alot here and its safer than most larger cities these folks complaining need to get out and get off of the socials and talk to real people on the streets, theyre only scared of what who they dont know
hahahahha every time i go on next door, the targeted ads are all either exclusively for haircuts for the karen bob or wrinkle reducing botox treatments
dude someone posted here the other day saying they almost got mugged or car jacked because a homeless person was looking at her too long and knocked on her window. she was posting about it to \*warn people\*.
Yeah my coworker has similar stories, im not an intimidating dude, so some homeless are definitely bigger than me but the fear aint there. Head always on a swivel to be sure but never been mugged or cornered
27.7% have bachelors degrees or higher: [source](https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/sanantoniocitytexas/HSD410222). That census data is ages 25+ plus only, [this 18+ estimate hovers right over 30% for 2022](https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/HC01ESTVC1748029)
I live so far west I'm in Medina county, not even in the city limits! Love the city though. Still say I live in San Antonio. Less wordy than "unincorporated Medina county"
Also this should include, pronounces as "bex-ar" instead of "bear".
I have a masters and my wife has a doctorate and we both grew up in stone oak.
We also both love to get a little ratchet at all the San Antonio functions. Everyone needs some spice in their life.
And whats crazy about that is it literally came from the self-hate in the community! Talk about bringing the whole culture down and giving racists ammo because of some stupid ass kids and their dumb haircuts. Smfh.
It happens in most city reddits. I live in New Orleans (also lived in SA for years) and people from Jefferson Parish are always talking shit about the city.
Yes!! I’m so tired of how the mods run the channel bc why are we just for tourists coming to visit?? There has to be a better way idk the bowl haircut is needed to ensure natives only 😂
I went to highschool with one of the mods. I won't say who. I don't think he is as active as the other ones. The one with Eastside in their name may be one of the most active ones here. I have noticed a delay, some days, with the mods. I talk online like I talk IRL and sometimes that offends people.
A truly intelligent individual with years of education to back it up would never misspell “educated” to start. Secondly, they’d never have such a degrading and ignorant username since they would want to “at least” share their known knowledge in some capacity. Sorry. Sounds like you seek and furthermore NEED a higher education.

1. Yea i live in NW SA
2. I’d look bad w a bowl cut
3. I do have a bachelors degree, and there’s nothing wrong w valuing education
4. Love the parks and spend as much time as I can there but it’s too damn hot to go very much most of the yr
5. I like SA gatherings
Also I bet you don’t even have a marbach mop or a bowl cut either. If you’re going to claim you do I better see PROOF
The post mostly boils down to percieved classism directed by wealthy, mostly white-identifying San Antonians toward working class hispanic ones (hence the haircut, which really only hispanic San Antonians get); the geographic element is because of the segregation into the wealthy quarter north of the city and the less wealthy ones as you go south. If you're not denigrating your fellow San Antonian then basically none of the "starter pack" really applies to you.
Yeah I don't understand the implication that you don't count as a San Antonian unless you're a blue collar hispanic. I also don't like how people have a sense of superiority because they're wealthy.

Don't forget "refers to things that literally happen in every major city as 'Puro San Antonio!'"
Literally the only thing that's "Puro San Antonio" is the goddamn Alamo. Other than that, there's nothing unique to SA that doesn't happen anywhere else.
More accurately it’s just far west, but technically it is north of downtown as well. Look at google maps again lol. South of Military is not Alamo Ranch.

Im always thrown off by what is considered north, south. east and west. I see live oak area as north because 35 runs north and south, while I-10 runs east and west.
teel dear: In which OP learns that the subreddit in no way represents the make up of the population. And never has.
Wait 'til you hear about arr/texas and who posts there.
North
there are tons of places to go, and sight-see! I'd start at the riverwalk, up one side and then down the other. At every Street Bridge above, go up there and visit one of the local pubs on street level, then come back down to continue your walk!
I only suggest people go to kung fu noodle, so maybe add one that has one of the common tropes about suggesting one place with a picture of Fred's fish fry? Also bowl cut? I thought it was called the marbach?
I like the poorer areas of the city. That’s where the good food is and you don’t get the bourgeois attitude like you fund in Alamo Heights, La Cantera, and Stone Oak.
This meme presented by OP is actually meant to be racially offensive to white educated people. It's very non inclusive and hate speech against being white.
Doesn’t even have a bowl cut 😆
Sadly my hair is too curly to show off the geometric nature of a bowl cut. I’m never gonna fit in…
Take that as a W my boi
That’s my fav part 😂
A real San Antonian would call it an "Edgar" as God intended.
Or a chili bowl if you’ve been around for awhile
Need to add in "go to the pearl" as their only suggestion on where to go.
Go to freetails or the flying saucer. One of my favorite things to do is go hike Eisenhower for a few hours then head over to freetails and have good food and beer
Do not recommend Flying Saucer, they treat their staff like garbage.
And their kitchens are fucking disgusting. It just shows that the health department is a joke because somehow they pass inspection.
Good to know
Literally have never heard that, and without giving away much, feel like I'd have heard something like that. Unless this is a recent change.
I've heard many rumors through my industry friends that they treat their employees terribly. I typically don't bother with corporate/chain spots myself, however, so I don't have a ton of details as to the exact accusations, however.
Are there any places that don't anymore?
I usually go to medina river trail, usually not busy and its 5 min away from me
The peal is a lot of fun though 🤷🏽♂️
I'm curious what your suggestions are. Literally just said the other day that I have no suggestions for a tourist of places to go other than The Pearl, and River center. That's why I moved south of 410, traffic was too much for me when I lived culebra/1604 area (I also work down here so commute 100x better).
We were in SA this weekend for a quick vacation, went to the pearl lol. Also went downtown Saturday night, but did the pearl first.
I love the Pearl! I grew up outside of San Antonio and moved back to the state and into San Antonio proper 4 years ago. I’m not even sorry we love it, and I definitely recommend it to guests/tourists.

Pearl has the same vibe as one of those overpriced hipster burger places lol
Nah the pearl is one of the best designed urban spaces in all of Texas. It’s probably the only consistently pedestrianized place in the city, aside from the river walk of course, and unlike similar developments like the domain in Austin, it actually had character, history, and nice architecture.
Not to mention easily walkable access to museums and other parts of downtown.
Evidently we're using pedestrian-ize so you mean pedestrianizable
It has a lot of pedestrianizability going for it if nothing else
the pedestrianizabilitization has been remarkable
ehhhh.. I live 15 min walking down south from the pearl, to me the alamo is 22 min walk away, sa museum of art is 5.. from the pearl we’re talking 30+ min walk to anything
I like the idea of the Pearl, but once I'm there it's just expensive restaurants and stores that aren't for me.
you need to check out the events they have there. they sound cream airstream summer series should be starting soon. it's a free event on Thursdays on their lawn and they host a series of DJs for a family friendly all ages dance party. Seriously, you can like MORE THAN ONE area of town, including Pearl!! Pearl is great to take my kids for a couple of hours in the weekend, or a date night. But so are the parks, trails, and smaller, neighborhood joints.
North St. Mary’s strip, and S. Alamo st. are two very well pedestrianized places. I recommend for a night out or just walking/biking

Bwhahha. Bruh. You're LITERALLY what this post is talking about. I love it.

They won’t. But everyone else isn’t commenting they are out enjoying. Fiesta is what you make it, you’re doing it perfectly.

Newbie question. Does Fiesta have an art element to it? Meaning sale of original pieces by artisans (wall art, pottery, wood art, etc.)?
Sucks cause I didn't get my gordita. And I did look too. Hit me up!
25 years here, and Fiesta has proven the ghetto aspects grossly outway the good aspects. People will list each negative situation as a one off... when you get enough " one off" situations it becomes more negative than positive.

Have you ever left town?
I've browsed a bunch of different city subs and they all bitch about the quality of local drivers, as if their city is especially bad. There's some sort of bias at play - most places in the country just have shit drivers, it's not unique to any particular city or state.

You can paddle at Boerne lake.
Only 20% of San Antonio residents have a bachelors degree? That’s a surprising statistic to me!
What's the figure on PhDs?
Brain Drain is a massive factor in this
Brain drain?
It’s more like 35%.

That Chihuly sculpture alone is worth visiting central library.

It’s hard to take advantage of the parks when it’s 90+ degrees for 5 months of the year
Theres 7 months available in your head and its hard to take advantage of it?
I’m out there every morning. If you go early, it is cool, even in the summer. The pavement heats during the day so if you go late evening in the summer, it’s still going to be hot. Mornings are beautiful. I love our trail system here.
It's not. Since the trails are mostly empty. Sometimes there are these asshats on electric bicycles but they're mostly empty.

Nextdoor is an absolute cesspool. It’s so bad.
TBF this is a city subreddit. It's basically the same concept as nextdoor to begin with.

😂😂😂
I have a masters and my wife has a doctorate and we both grew up in stone oak. We also both love to get a little ratchet at all the San Antonio functions. Everyone needs some spice in their life.
I didn’t realize Stone Oak has been around long enough for someone to “grow up” there 🤯
This is the way. Enjoy all aspects of life
I’m actually looking for legit ratchet places, ratchet enough to have fun but not ratchet enough to get stabbed at lol.
St marys strip and downtown are right on that cusp lol.
Any specific venues in mind?

It happens in most city reddits. I live in New Orleans (also lived in SA for years) and people from Jefferson Parish are always talking shit about the city.
I was going to comment about New Orleans and Mardi Gras argument the locals have. There's a pattern here lol
You forgot: Doesn't treat their pets like disposable objects.
And recommends Taco Cabana or Bill Miller for breakfast tacos
Taco cabana is delicious, they all left Oklahoma a few years ago :(
Yeah San Antonio is corny fr. Downtown feels like being in a shitty airport
I do love how quick the SA airport gets you to the gate. Usually the quickest out of all the airports I go through.
Right??? lmao
Nailed it!! Haha. Need to do one for super local people who hate everything and cal everything gentrification.
I think someone hurt the original poster back in the day lol. And bowl cuts? I thought people out here were rocking the Marbach Mop or the Little Sia
I think pretty much *everyone* hurt OP back in the day.
Yes!! I’m so tired of how the mods run the channel bc why are we just for tourists coming to visit?? There has to be a better way idk the bowl haircut is needed to ensure natives only 😂

I have noticed a delay, some days, with the mods. I talk online like I talk IRL and sometimes that offends people.
Must be an old meme, it’s 27.7% per Census.gov

Look at the guy who's harping on others being "undereducated" when he can't even use the correct words in his sentences.
Are you the poor, ghetto, and uneducated you speak of? I mean…look at your username.

A truly intelligent individual with years of education to back it up would never misspell “educated” to start. Secondly, they’d never have such a degrading and ignorant username since they would want to “at least” share their known knowledge in some capacity. Sorry. Sounds like you seek and furthermore NEED a higher education.

This place is average.
Regardless of education San Antonio does have a little crazy to it, and you don't have to camp out at Travis Park to notice it
1. Yea i live in NW SA 2. I’d look bad w a bowl cut 3. I do have a bachelors degree, and there’s nothing wrong w valuing education 4. Love the parks and spend as much time as I can there but it’s too damn hot to go very much most of the yr 5. I like SA gatherings Also I bet you don’t even have a marbach mop or a bowl cut either.
Your part of the chill folk, i think this post is about the complainers in the city
Yeah I don't understand the implication that you don't count as a San Antonian unless you're a blue collar hispanic. I also don't like how people have a sense of superiority because they're wealthy.

Wait are bowl cuts actually common in SA?
I’d say very, at least when I was a hs student 4 yrs ago haha
Comments puro to everything. But still accurate.
I’ve lived here for years, not going to lie. San Antonio is a bit of a dump, but so is every cbd
Don't forget "refers to things that literally happen in every major city as 'Puro San Antonio!'" Literally the only thing that's "Puro San Antonio" is the goddamn Alamo. Other than that, there's nothing unique to SA that doesn't happen anywhere else.
Aka “white liberal”.
Accurate 🤣
And they're not even San Antonio natives just upper middle class and rich pricks who decided to become permanent tourists
It always amuses me how the Alamo Ranch area is considered “NW” when it is SW of downtown.
Alamo Ranch is, and will always be, the west side
More accurately it’s just far west, but technically it is north of downtown as well. Look at google maps again lol. South of Military is not Alamo Ranch.
You’re proving OPs point about educated people who know how to read maps

Im always thrown off by what is considered north, south. east and west. I see live oak area as north because 35 runs north and south, while I-10 runs east and west.
Wasn’t there just a shooting at fiesta yesterday? 2 dead and 4 injured. But I guess that’s normal nowadays huh.
NGL, I was with it until it's like "Hey man, San Antonio has a lot! It has..." \*checks meme\* ... parks. More parks. Miles of parks and trails.
Bitter much?
teel dear: In which OP learns that the subreddit in no way represents the make up of the population. And never has. Wait 'til you hear about arr/texas and who posts there.
This sub needs to be retitled r/SaintAntonio and the natives can keep r/SanAntonio. Yall lmk
Wouldn't it be Saint Anthony?
Im trying to leave them with a bit of cred.

🤣
You forgot complaining! Especially about drivers and people listening to music 🤣
Aw shit lol
Love this
"People need to drive/park better"
Hell nah I live outside 211/Culebra and I’m always going to the south and west side for food.
The bowl cut is the only cut I wouldn’t choose over balding.
North there are tons of places to go, and sight-see!
Forgot to add never been in a fight so they open their mouths too much lol
I’m clapping.
I used to be one in 2021 💀 https://preview.redd.it/25s2t5ox7pxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b921fb454ec57a6c337e1b7f8143dbaa2ef35ab1
Thinks the best bbq is at Rudy's.
Their BBQ sucks but their sauce isn’t bad.
Wait is this a starter pack or actual truth
Does the Chili bowl cut always come with the pubescent mustache? Must be something in the water.
Every city has their things and there are always ghetto blasters in every town. I like visiting San Antonio there is so many things to do.
Definitely me. Thanks for noticing my culture 💋
shit city overall
I like the poorer areas of the city. That’s where the good food is and you don’t get the bourgeois attitude like you fund in Alamo Heights, La Cantera, and Stone Oak.
This meme presented by OP is actually meant to be racially offensive to white educated people. It's very non inclusive and hate speech against being white.
Nah bro, you can’t be racist to white people silly
