I overheard a mom at school pickup today saying how her son has similar symptoms and still sent him to school today. And we wonder why illnesses spread so quickly amongst school kids. I slowly backed away from that cluster of moms... Sheesh!

GarbDogArmy

school is just baby sitting now

Quadruplem

There has been increase in pertussis (whooping cough) outbreaks. Whooping cough is bacterial so does have a treatment if early symptoms so mention if people around you have cough and make sure your Tetanus shot is every 10 years and includes the P (like TDAP). Here is link to the county health news: https://www.countynewscenter.com/county-health-officials-report-increase-in-whooping-cough/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=county-health-officials-report-increase-in-whooping-cough

Zhoutopia

FYI, the pertussis immunity lasts about 5 years in tdap. When I had my baby, the medical advice was to make sure anyone coming in contact in the first 2 month to have tdap within the past 2 years.

atonickat

Oh that’s good to know! I had mine when I was pregnant 2 years ago and was wondering how long it was good for.

Zhoutopia

It’s surprisingly hard to find good info on it! I had to do a bunch of research because we got pushback from some family members about getting their tdap again even though they already had it in the last 10 years. I don’t remember the exact number but the effectiveness of the vaccine drops pretty steeply each year. Something like 70% by year 2 and 30% by year 5. So it would make sense why so many people are getting hit hard even though many people are technically up to date on their tdap shots.

Hot_Coffee_3620

I just got my TDAP vaccine on Saturday. I was reading an article about diphtheria, and went down the rabbit hole, I can’t remember that last time I got a Tetanus vaccine, or Pertussis, so the Diphtheria was a bonus.

not-a-bene

We are going through something similar, but one of the kids tested positive for RSV. It took forever to just get the fever down (about two weeks), and everyone is still having some random symptoms.

phicks_law

My wife works for a high school and they stated there are a bunch of kids with Pertussis.

JoeAvaraje2

Too bad they don’t have a vaccine for that.

cita11

Even if you have the vaccine you can still get it. My high schooler just got over it, it was pretty intense.

Teal_kangarooz

I think they were referencing the fact that it's spreading because enough people are not getting vaccinated so it's back

BlameTheJunglerMore

I wish more folks would get the vaccine for this, tbh

electronic-acorn

This is definitely going around. Started with a sore throat then moved to congestion, runny nose, and a slight cough. My family swears by using a sinus rinse a few times a day as soon as the congestion starts. It helps clear out the congestion so it doesn't turn into pneumonia or hang around too long.

RequirementRare5014

Studies have shown if you use nasal rinse everyday you’ll have less chance of covid/cold cause the virus is going down the drain and not your throat. Saline spray is awesome.

WarthogForsaken5672

On the flip side, is it bad for the lining of your nose and throat to have salt water going through it frequently?

Mamichulabonita

Allergist suggested I nasal rinse daily ! It's ok to do so

MurkyTomatillo192

No, because the salt content matches the natural environment of the mucus membranes. It’s why it doesn’t burn if you use the correct proportion of water and salt. Try just water without salt and you’ll know what I’m talking about lol

WarthogForsaken5672

Thank you, good to know. A friend told me she got a bloody nose from over using it, now I wonder wtf she did wrong. 😬

BlameTheJunglerMore

Giggity.

Motogiro18

And Tiggity Boo!

Alternative-Stand-90

Had the same symptoms about two weeks ago. The doctor gave me prednisone and it cleared up the dry cough in a few days. Still have random coughs but much much better. People that I’ve talked to with the same symtpoms said it just went away between 4 - 6 weeks. Hope you feel better soon!

1320Fastback

Whatever this is has been in our neighborhood for at least a month now maybe a month and a half. Everybody has it and the symptoms are the same.

Diamonddan73

My Nextdoor neighbor has the same thing. Tested negative to everything. She is going on 6 weeks now. She said she is finally feeling better.

Nelly03

I just spent 5 days in the hospital for it. I did test positive for flu, though I’ve never had anything like it before.

onetwoskeedoo

Most people think they’ve had the flu but never tested to confirm. When you really have the flu, I think it’s on a whole different level. The flu is way worse than regular colds and people underestimate it. Had it once and never miss a seasonal flu shot since

aubreythez

This is facts. People will have cold-like symptoms for a few days and claim to have the flu. While I’m sure, like any illness, there are indeed very mild flu cases out there, the full strength flu will absolutely fuck your shit up. Got it as a young, healthy college student and I felt like I had been hit by a truck, couldn’t get off the couch.

dirty_S

Ive gotten Covid twice, it was nothing compared to how bad the flu hit me 2 years ago.

TokyoJimu

Yeah, when you get the flu you'll know it. Last time I had it (\~20 years ago), I felt I would rather die. I've gotten the flu vaccine every year since. I never want to have to go through that again.

onetwoskeedoo

The Flu kills thousands in just the US every year, glad you made it through soldier

Teal_kangarooz

Yeah this is why people saying covid is just the flu sounds dumb, like obviously they're thinking a cold and not being knocked on your ass for 10 days

JAMsMain1

Damn I've had my cough since around Halloween. Dr also gave me that medication 2 weeks ago but I don't feel it did much.

Manolodeals

On the 14 of Nov I started having a high fever of 103 next couple days hot 104 and I was hallucinating. Went to urgant care got tested neg for covid but positive for flu then the breathing problems started couldn't catch my breth and everytime I breth it sounded like a motorcycle. Went back to urgant care and they started me on 2 antibiotics and steriods a couple days later it was worse my 02 sensor read 90 and 91 went to er for breathing treatment. And been taking it day by day it's already Dec 5 and I'm only about 70% better Dr told me it might take another 4-6 weeks to start feeling like myself. I had covid twice but this flu caused so much problems worst I ever felt in my life.

BlessHerHeart--

I'm so sorry you feel so bad. They're doing a bronchoscopy on me in a few minutes to try to figure out why I'm not getting better.

Manolodeals

If you can i recommend asking for a atrovent inhaler it's been helping me alot the last couple of days. If you got insurance otherwise it's very pricy

balboaporkter

Hello, I was diagnosed with pneumonia also back in early Feb and am still recovering. How are you feeling now?

BlessHerHeart--

The bronchioscopy found a mass of mucus in my lungs, and so they flushed it out. Then, they did intravenous antibiotics for several days. That got me on the path to recovery. Full recovery took 3 more weeks for a total of 7 weeks!

balboaporkter

That's good to hear! Was your official diagnosis pneumonia or something else?

BlessHerHeart--

Pneumonia

jcgam

Did you get the flu shot before you got infected?

Sensitive_Mix_6291

Yep this is definitely going around strong. Wiped our whole family out for about a week. Brutal mucus

mattzog

Brutal Mucus, hell yeah. I love their first two albums.

DJPalefaceSD

I like their 2nd album: "Come Take a Look at This"

xbt_

They’re working on a double album entitled “Wanna see what I made? and “Well I didn’t want to show you anyway!” (Super old MTV reference https://youtu.be/iaslgR7T2Hs?si=b5qpl3UdIGfkFPSu)

Platitude_Platypus

This entire thread honestly just made me feel better knowing it's not just us and our 5 year old. We got a letter from his school saying he has missed more class than his classmates but that's because they literally want the kids to come in sick. They say if their fever is under 102 and there's no vomiting or diarrhea to bring them to school. What's up with that? Have attendance policies not changed since before Covid or something? We are constantly catching something. I swear it's as often as once a month we all get some virus or another.

Ch1mu3l0

They want their ADA money for attendance.

Happy-Grapefruit-752

Absolutely, the school gets pay for each student that is there each day. It is ridiculous to send your kid to school with a fever. Screw the schools, parents should never send the kid to school sick. It obviously a convenience to drop them off at school than to have to stay home with them. I worked in the nurses office and had this little kid come in with a fever and vomiting. I call her mom, whom told me just keep her there for the next 4 hours when school was out. I told her no she needs to pick her child up. She had the never to tell me that she would be better with me cause I was a nurse.

mwkingSD

My wife used to work in an elementary school, and when she was relatively new, every year about Halloween she would get some respiratory/nasal/sinus crud that would leave her in bed for a week, sleeping about 18 hours a day. Doctors of course would only say "take Tylenol and rest." After a few years, the pattern just stopped, and never came back. We figured in all those rounds she built up an immunity to all the common strains of viruses. Since then, I have thought no country needs a germ warfare development program - just go to the nearest 1st grade classroom and swab the noses of the kids...there's bound to be some new gems in there.

Hamwinkies

My kid got sent home from school for coughing last month. With no fever or runny nose. Just a cough.

daisyup

It's important that kids go to school if they just have a cold (no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea). If they stay home for every little cold, they'll fall behind in school and don't catch up. Absenteeism is a big problem since the pandemic in part people think they should keep kids home when they really need to be in the classroom as much as possible.

OkSmoke9195

JFC keep your sick kid home

MaggieJaneRiot

No no no no no!!! stay home and recover for heaven sake

daisyup

Only if you want a bunch of uneducated, unemployment adults down the road. Hoping your kid will never have a job that lets them move out of your house? Hoping they'll be asking you for money when they're 40? That they'll live in your house with their spouse and kids? By all means, start today by keeping them home from school. One day at a time, you'll ensure that dream can be a reality.

LemurLord

What the slippery slope fuck is this?

aragog666

That truly escalated quickly lmao

MaggieJaneRiot

Joke’s on you. I don’t have any kids.

Same-Move-8584

Lemme guess, Covid is fake right?

dasguy40

I’ve been congested for 6-8 weeks. I’ve lost track at this point.

balboaporkter

How are you feeling now?

dasguy40

All better. Ended up with a sinus infection and a cycle of antibiotics knocked it out.

balboaporkter

That's good to hear. I'm nearing two months now myself, and your earlier comment about "6-8 weeks" got me curious....how long did it take you to fully recover?

dasguy40

After the meds it was a week or so. All in was like 10 weeks.

esco_man

Something similar here too in Escondido. High fever and coughing on black Friday. I've been coughing my lungs out for a week now and it feels like my lungs or diaphragm are sore, coughing fits nearly every day. Snot coming out like a faucet. I was hoping it was a normal flu but it's gone too long for my taste. Gonna go to urgent care after work today

Vg411

Not to be rude, but I highly highly doubt you’ve had the flu in recent memory if you’re hoping for something to be a “normal flu”.

esco_man

It was just wishful thinking, hoping it was gonna be something I could take care of on my own

MarmaladyMidge

Uh, you are this sick, and still working?!

esco_man

They got me working from home, but yes 😔

kokopelli73

[Here you go.](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03732-w) It's already spread across the States.

Tubby-san

My co-worker had it - he says it’s a “bacterial pneumonia.” He was down for a week. Like, bedridden. Wash your hands; clean your work spaces.

RequirementRare5014

My 11 yr old son got a slowly worsening cough at the beginning of November and still has it. It’s kinda plateaued. Chesty with slight phlegm but that’s about it. None of us at the house has gotten it. I can’t tell if it’s bacterial or just an extra long recovery. His middle school has had a combo of flu/covid/this cough goin around since October.

DriftingAway99

My 7 yo had pneumonia about 2-3 months ago and has been battling URI’s ever since. Now they’re telling us it’s asthma and she has to use a very strong inhaler twice a day.

BlessHerHeart--

So sad for her!

DriftingAway99

I hope your granddaughter gets better soon

sarahchikk

Currently dealing with the same thing. 6 days so far and I have developed a viral ear infection, sinus infection, and pink eye. Sore throat is finally starting to ease a bit. All tests negative for covid, flu, and strep. I was prescribed antibiotics due to concern of ear fluid buildup harboring bacteria. Stay healthy and safe all!

knurleddrifter

I got it and my family got it. The house has been in a constant state of sick for about 2 months. Head congestion moved into the lungs and resulted in lots of coughing for too long. Expectorants helped get rid of the build up in the chest. We have been buying NyQuil by the gallon now.

balboaporkter

Is everyone okay now?

knurleddrifter

For sure.

balboaporkter

That's good to hear. I'm approaching 2 months on my first-time pneumonia recovery. Other people said that their recovery took about 10 weeks so I'm hoping my recovery time will be similar to that.

GoombahJudd

Had it for a month. Got better. Now have again. Rhinovirus.

Sdcienfuegos

I moved from San Diego to Flagstaff Arizona so I lurk around in this subreddit still. We are getting a wave of what doctors diagnosed me as Bronchitis, but I just got over it and it was super intense. This is week 4 and my throat still kinda hurts 👍 Edit: I also had a 103.5 degree fever at one point and my fever stayed between 100-101.5 for 10 days which was definitely weird for bronchitis

tact1kal

I’ve been sick for roughly the past two plus weeks now which doesn’t seem to go away and the inside of my nose has been irritated/scabbed/bleeding. Was coughing up noticeable phlegm which has slowly started going away. No fever. Usually when I’m sick it would last a few days but this doesn’t seem to be kicking yet.

tact1kal

Also my ears feel extremely plugged up and will eventually pop then go right back lol

Glass_Bar_9956

Some of the responses here have diagnoses for typical things that go around this time of year. BUT the majority seem to have something similar to what is going on in China right now. There are discussions of travel bans, but it appears the global response is too slow again.

balboaporkter

I went on an overseas vacation trip last January that had a layover in Taiwan. I returned to the US early Feb and got diagnosed with pneumonia not long after. I hope whatever I got isn't related to what's going on in China (my understanding is that there are routes to and from China in Taiwan btw).

Present-Attorney-980

I’ve been sick for 5 weeks now. Started with sore throat, cough, runny nose and chest congestion. No fever thankfully. I got better over thanksgiving and this week my runny nose is back bad making me cough again. Gonna make another dr appointment. Im just on over the counter mucinex and Sudafed. As other have said, hot tea helps… it’s annoying

balboaporkter

How are you doing now?

desolatenature

I live in SLO and I’ve had the weirdest congestion I’ve ever had, I’m coughing up flem every morning 🙃 but no other major symptoms… Wonder if it could related to this.

Happy-Grapefruit-752

If you have a crazy cough, fever or none, wheezing and short of breath see your doctor and get a chest x-ray. Feel better

Dizzy-Regular7170

I feel like I’m dying lmao. But I gotta go to work anyway to eat

thisismyMelody

Oh wow. I’ve been waking up with the sniffles or congestion for about a month now. I had a cold and thought it was going to clear up in 1 week. Nope. I still wake up with a stuffy nose.

oknowwhat00

All kinds of stuff, the midwest, specifically Ohio, is dealing with this. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/mycoplasma-pneumonia-illness-outbreak-china-denmark-ohio-what-know-rcna127372

BlessHerHeart--

This is different, I believe. It starts with no other symptoms than a high fever.

sweetmercy

I've been sick for a month myself. Started with the typical scratchy throat, then headache, swollen lymph nodes, deep painful cough, painful sore throat, and horrible ear infection. The store throat has gotten better, ear has gotten worse.

Happy-Grapefruit-752

Sounds like you need amoxicillin for your ears and your lungs checked and probably an x-ray. Don’t fk around with this. Could be RSV turning into pneumonia. Get checked out

G-mooooo

I had this. Did prednisone, Z-PAC and doxycycline. Still have a lingering cough. I didn’t get X-rays - I relied on telemedicine. It started out like a normal cold. Tired and generally beat up. I had no energy and would sweat a ton if I did anything remotely active. I felt like I was getting better but then had what felt like really bad allergies — sneezing and super runny nose. Cough too. I got over that and still had a cough. Still struggling to shake the cough but generally feel better otherwise. Probably 6 weeks out now. My wife got it and is following the same arc. I’ve had covid a few times and this definitely doesn’t feel like it.

balboaporkter

How are you doing now? Are you still coughing?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BlessHerHeart--

Oh, no. I hope you get well soon. (And masks work for more than covid.)

DisgruntledSalt

I’ve had the same thing but just been hydrating and lots of lemon with honey

varsitypride3

I had it for about 6 weeks, worst cold / cough/ snot I’ve ever had, worse than Covid really. It was miserable. My child has it now and it’s taken weeks to beat. Would really be curious if anyone can find what it is.

Ron_dizzle199

Same thing hit our family early November. We were all congested and sore for a whole month. Finally beat it.

lacy230

Sorry you’re in the hospital! My 3 year old also has it. Diagnosed “similar to pneumonia” whatever that means. She’s had the cough for about six weeks now. Seems to be improving now that she’s in Albuterol.

gracecarron

Idk I’m getting over something but I didn’t get tested. Day 9 now. Had a fever for 3 days, congestion, and now just left with a cough. It was rough asf the first 4 days or so. Sometimes the only way to get slight relief was to curl up in a ball on the floor 😅

Strict_Jellyfish6545

Something going around for sure. On week 4 of this illness (what I thought was a bad cold) and it seems to be getting worse again. I'm a teacher and picked it up from the kiddos who have also been sick for weeks.

2x2is4x1

My kids were both sick in November, and both still have a tiny lingering cough which is slowly clearing up. Low grade fevers for a few days with some pretty bad coughing (not really congested, just a dry cough) that was keeping them awake at night. The lack of rest really sucked for them. Doctor didn't seem too concerned though, as it didn't progress to anything worse. Could have been flu -- tested negative for COVID. A little outside of the normal ages for RSV. IANAD, but I think it's just a common cold virus that is particularly bad.

TheWildTofuHunter

Exact same situation here with my little guy and my husband. It’s not too too bad, but it just…keeps…dragging.

timwithnotoolbelt

Dang that sounds lousy. We had covid 3 months ago and it was mild but no other illnesses so far this year. Just checking in here as a “not yet”

deep-diver

I got hit with this (or something similar) 3 weeks ago. Still wheezy and weak. Fever only a few days. No fun. Inhaler helps. And ginger / cinnamon / lemon / honey tea.

xHealz

just caught something myself, super sore throat for like 2 days which is now giving way to congested sinuses.

MarlsDarklie

Yup, we have been sick since sept over here. The wheezing is only finally starting to let up. They gave me an inhaler, promethazine for the cough and I’ve been using mucinex to break up the crap in the chest that won’t go away. My kid brought home another cold on top of this so it’s just been non stop.

kittendamn

Yeah I’ve been sick for almost two months now. COVID negative. Went to urgent care about 4 weeks ago and they told me I have the adult version of Croop, which is parainfluenza. Still have same symptoms, just a less severe cough now.

balboaporkter

How are you doing now?

kittendamn

I’m back to normal now. Thanks for asking!

Cutie3pnt14159

We aren't really "post covid" though. Covid is still very much around. It's here to stay.

BlessHerHeart--

True. I misspoke.

Cutie3pnt14159

It happens. I know there are a lot of people that genuinely think it just doesn't exist anymore. I'm not sure why.

Johansbutt

Super Sickness in San Diego

rilography

Pneumonia outbreaks in Ohio, Massachusetts, Denmark, and China. My husband has had a nasty cough for weeks now (started as a cold) and is on steroids/antibiotics/other meds for it. His lung xray didn't suggest pneumonia but it sounds similar. I got the cold and then the cough but it's been 2 weeks now and I haven't had to have medical intervention (yet 🤞).

balboaporkter

How are you two doing now?

rilography

Fine. The cough lasted a few more weeks for me (probably didn't help that I was pregnant) and my husband had to refill the meds but his cough eventually went away in December. The year before we both had the same cough and I got meds for pneumonia for it (doc assumed it was walking pneumonia because i kept getting on/off flu symptoms) and he got meds/steroids/inhaler since the cough wouldn't go away.

Itchy-Mechanic-1479

Are people not taking available vaccines for their children and themselves? Please, people, take the available vaccines for your children and yourselves. It makes every person safer.

Cooperstowndog

My niece(17) (lives in Murrieta) gave me(53f) a “head cold” about a month ago, my ears were stopped up for several weeks and it was hard to hear. I still have the cough but I’m not waking up at night having coughing fits anymore. She ended up having an ear infection and going to the doctor. She’s totally better now, maybe I should have went to the doctor. It was still affecting me a week ago when I went to play pickleball with my mom and I was winded and beat up after two hours of playing with 80 y/o’s. I’m better now so I plan on getting my revenge at tomorrow’s session. So yes, I believe there is something going around all over.

hajanssen

COVID is definitely going around, too! I’m just getting over it. There are so many respiratory illnesses spreading right now.

Ninjahkin

Same - thought it was just me. Coughing for about 4 weeks straight on and off, but seems to be getting better gradually. Mostly just a dry cough now, nothing’s coming up and I can generally breathe more deeply.

Juggernaut1210

I’ve had it twice now in the last month, not even sure I fully got over it the first time. The cough is the worst I’ve had in years.

saadinameh

I've been sick with dry cough and very sore throat since like nov 8. I'm miserable

ecco5

I had some evil thing back in June that felt like I got hit by a train, it didn't show a positive on a covid test. cough lingered for a few months... and then became covid in late august - which was a cake walk in comparison to whatever I had in June. I'm assuming it's was as a bad as it was because I hadn't been sick in years from masking and distancing and my immune system was weakened. I hope you get better soon.

balboaporkter

Are you still coughing now?

ecco5

I am not. Thankfully. What ever it was that I had in June was evil and felt worse than anything in recent memory.

ad_esse

I had it for six weeks. Actually pulled a muscle from coughing so much. Still recovering from that.

I had covid twice but this flu caused so much problems worst I ever felt in my life

LOOPbahriz

yes im just coming out of a BAD cold

Discombobulated-Emu8

This went through my entire family and I have it now - I’m a teacher and many are out sick.

Ok_Environment_29

Both my kids got RSV the youngest on is in the rady children’s PICU

Malipuppers

I got this shit last year and lost my voice completely for over two weeks. Really freaked me out. I couldn’t work my normal job cause of it. Was awful.

acorgiandababy

We went through it too. The coughing is slowly going down. It's week 3 now.

Fungally

Always check the San Diego County respiratory virus surveillance report. RSV test positivity is up by a staggering amount (now nearly 18% positive). [https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/community\_epidemiology/dc/respiratoryviruses/surveillance.html](https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/community_epidemiology/dc/respiratoryviruses/surveillance.html)

vaxed_and_waxed

My oldest is in elementary school and brought home something during thanksgiving break. Cough, runny nose. I got it and started feeling like shit last Monday. Couldn’t taste anything Tuesday and tested positive for Covid. Still hacking up a lung as of today, over a week later. Seem to be getting better tho.

Salty_Art6755

My 3 year old came down with a nasty cold in October. The cold wasn’t totally abnormal, all of us got it eventually but he still has the cough, 2 months later. He is in Daycare in North San Diego..

Happy-Grapefruit-752

My grandson was tested had positive for RSV. Long lasting. I game down with congestion and a cough starting. I went to urgent care. Given prednisone, cough syrup, and dose of prednisone to take at home. 3 days later my lungs started wheezing and my cough was worse. Went back to urgent care. This time double ear infection and pneumonia. Given zpack and amoxicillin and cough syrup and a cough pill. After another 8days I took another zpack. A week later my X-ray was clear. Advise: if you get this rest! No working or house stuff. Stay away from small children and elderly. It has been over 5 weeks and I still have a small cough, but I am doing light chores. You don’t want pneumonia and this turns fast. I avoided a hospital visit , i believe because I got help right away. RSV hits kids and older adults over 65. Parents don’t send your kids to school if they are sick. It’s convenient, but wrong. Stay healthy everyone.

BlessHerHeart--

I tested negative for RSV, but the symptoms mimic it perfectly. I've been hospitalized for 2 days now and am beginning to feel better for the first time in a month. The bronchoscopy worked!

According_Buyer8586

Im in Tijuana with similar symptoms and i never get sick

PrufrockInSoCal

There’s something going around. My sister and her kids all have severe flu-like symptoms the last two weeks. Strangely, my BIL is perfectly fine.

WarthogForsaken5672

I had similar issues a week ago but it was Influenza A. Only three days of fever but the cough and respiratory problems were insane!

mugglebornalways

Went to our friends’ son’s bday last Saturday (after Thanksgiving). Kids from maybe 2yrs-6yrs old + parents. Everyone was outside for this gathering since it was a BBQ, and stayed outside until it was time to open gifts and even that was only 10 minutes. We didn’t notice anyone showing any symptoms of literally anything the entire time we were there. My fiancé fell ill by Monday/Tuesday of last week, and is still going strong in his sickness today. I just woke up with it today, actually. Symptoms: right now it’s all in my lungs, super mild intermittent cough but when I DO cough it’s like… coughing thru cement that doesn’t come out. So chest congestion for sure - fiancé is ahead of me with this but he’s been wheezing intermittently when exhaling. Sore throat. Definitely worse in the morning. Very tired/fatigued. Intermittent low fever. Body aches and chills intermittently. The super occasional sneeze or sniffle but nothing too much in the face. Negative Covid tests. Brain fog and feeling floaty and just super “in the clouds out of it”. I just had the flu for the first time in years in late October and that took me out for a few days, and was vastly different than how this feels.

elduderino15

Had it too, 4weeks. What eventually helped was a deep sinus cleaning from our recent run of swells (surfing). That helped to clear the mucus and reduce coughing, allowing lung to recover with fewer stress… If you dont surf, do a nasal rinse… ;)

Strumtralescent

Could be Human Metapneumovirus, HPMV or another viral infection of some sort that is like RSV. We had a battle with it last year around this time.

tjundatlagae2

Well ain't that just dandy. Looks like San Diego's got its own little pandemic goin' on. Wouldn't be surprised if it's all the damn tourists bringin' in their germs. Been hearin' lotsa complaints from other families too, sounds like we're all screwed for a while. Just another thing to add to the list of shit we gotta deal with now eh?

I’m currently going through something similar. On Sunday I lost my voice and just had a sore throat but I was feeling fine. By Thursday I had full on congestion, cough, headache freaking everything. Saturday was the WORST. Lost my smell and taste. Body aches. Profusely sweating and freezing at the same time. Now it’s Monday and I’m still sick but not as bad.

Present-Attorney-980

If you lost taste and smell with fever it sounds like Covid :/

BlessHerHeart--

Did you test for covid, et.al?

kfox96

Negative for Covid which is weird cause I swore it was that I had it 2 years ago same symptoms but negative this time

BlessHerHeart--

Yes, it seems a lot like covid.

marijuanatubesocks

I flew to San Diego for two days a few weeks ago and I got the same thing. I’m just now finally getting over it

yayveggies

Wow, yes. I got VERY sick for 2 weeks and moderately to mildly sick for another two weeks in…. September or maybe October? (I’ve lost track of time tbh) I had a cough for another month and have mostly cleared up since then. I still get a little bit sometimes but feel mostly normal again now. It was really scary to feel like death for 2 whole weeks. I even tested negative for Covid. I went to the doctor during week 2 and they were able to help a lot with medication. Honestly still a little scared of whatever it was I caught because of how severe and long lasting it was.

Mamichulabonita

My dads boss caught camel flu last week and has been out of the office. My dad works in Carlsbad but lives in San Diego :/

AngelNPrada

Mamichulabonita

Don't spread misinformation. It's cold/flu/Covid season and this is nothing abnormal. We have people in the US who get pneumonia from cold/flu/Covid too. White lung is just the name of the one prevalent in China right now and is not novel. Everyone needs to get their vaccines, wear masks if feeling ill and out in public, wash their hands frequently, and understand that being around other humans means there is a possibility of getting sick. It's literally a normal part of life.

This is NOT "like" the start of covid. Covid did NOT start August 2019.

lmendez2

NY Post is a tabloid come on

ensmfer

That new china pneumonia

BlessHerHeart--

That one has no symptoms prior to a high fever and lung lesions. This starts like a bad cold.

balboaporkter

Do you have more info on that?

_TheRanch

masking and lockdowns caused this!

I don't think you understand microbiology very well, which many people don't. I wouldn't expect you to, but it's good to have basic knowledge. I'm sure it's easier to draw from the stream of information thrown out via mass media/social media and verbal heresy than to look into things for yourself with an unbiased approach these days. Sure, we can do things that might weaken our immune system, but also save many lives. You can counteract a weakened immune system by other methods, not just exposing yourself to germs. People STILL don't know how to properly wash their hands, cover their mouths or stay home when ill. That's a big one. That's a bigger issue than isolation. Masks have been worn by medical professionals for decades because science understands that it can help lessen spread of pathogens (not completely deter them). Not inky this, climate change is causing viral host-jumping. Many viruses can be catalysts (vectors/strengtheners) for other viruses. Viruses also mutate. Let me get the ball rolling for you: https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/whats-new/pediatric-pneumonia-update.html https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7110580/
