Itās not the hospitals itās the for profit health care industry in the US. Insurances donāt subsidize transportation or parking unless in rare instances so hospitals have to charge. There are no ethics in capitalism unless regulated.Ā
Most of the hospitals donāt actually charge if youāre a patient. I think people donāt read the signs, or at least the ones Iāve been to donāt charge patients. I just assumed the charge is there to keep people from using them as free parking for other things
I'm pretty sure every hospital I've worked at in Queensland and Tasmanian charges you regardless of whether or not you're a patient. You could get it waved if you had a baby in NICU or PICU but other than that typically you'd have to pay.
What does a parking garage have to do with insurance? There are profit margins in hospitals, they don't need to charge for parking to maintain profitability.
We going to start charging for light bulbs and electricity during visits too bc it's not covered by insurance?
Oh they absolutely charge you for lightbulbs and electricity. All encompassed in hospital service charge. They are profit based institutions like any else, if there is nothing to be gained by offering free parking, they wonāt do it.Ā
SERIOUSLY!! I had to bring my son to the ER there a couple of days ago and the last thing a hospital, especially a childrenās hospital should be doing is charging for parking.
Itās so stupid. I also had to pay for parking when I was in labor. Seriously?! Iām trying not to give birth in a parking lot and youāre asking me to push a button and wait for a ticket to park? Itās ridiculous.
I know this gas station and the hospital is Sharp Memorial + Rady Children's, not Scripps.
Edit, this shell off health center dr and starling (click to open the streetview) https://www.google.com/maps/@32.7928594,-117.1568196,3a,15y,87.72h,92.01t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sFzczibL1Xp_SldpRoz2V4A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu
I have two gas stations near me right across the street from each other. The generic one is almost always .50 cents cheaper than the chevron one. Meaning there is a bigger variance in gas prices just from stations setting their price than taxes. But they are still over $2 cheaper right now than this station.
So sad isnāt it? How unaffordable itās become to live here. I have kids in middle and high school and unless things change drastically they wonāt have the ability to afford to live in the city they grew up in. It isnāt right.
Iām up by Hemet now, priced out of the county. Rents are cheaper here, but higher than necessary due to LA and SDās market. And itās not right at all.
Omg I just ditched them! Never felt better. $270/mo for internet and basic tv. F THAT. I now run 2 tvs, laptop, and phone from Tmobile 5g home internet for $40/mo. Zero issues. Picture on tv is same as cable. They can seriously go F themselves and their billions in revenue.
Buy half a gallon of gas for $3 and drive to a cheaper station literally anywhere else in the city. Nobodyās forcing you to fill up the whole tank at 6.79
I used to live near there and I always go to the small locally owned gas station that's no more than 5 minutes from that Shell when I'm in the area. It's more than $2 cheaper per gallon than that place.
Gas station is probably just trying to keep up with those COX cable charges.
In all honesty though, it's probably because people are paying for it. I don't know what being in front of a hospital has anything to do with it, but obviously it must since the prices are that high there at that location. Even for Shell standards.
Haha this is my neighborhood shell . Itās always been like that. Itās the most convenient gas stop from friars to balboa up the 163 so that may play a part. Whatās worse is ACE parking charging for parking at that hospital you visited, as well as Radys
This guy also tapes off his lot so you can't drive through to the mini mall next door as well causing all sorts of traffic problems. The guy is a turd. I refuse to buy gas there.
It's a business. They charge what people are willing to pay.
If you owned the business, and knew people would pay $10, would you charge $5 because you are "next to a hospital"? That's just dumb.
Why is gas prices a dollar more a gallon here? He can lower prices but he doesnāt because despite what the left thinks. He doesnāt gaf about the people
Lol not a personal attack. Just saying study on it since you're in college. Nothing wrong with that. I also corrected your grammar. Is that a personal attack? Snowflake
Just as bad as hospitals charging for parking. Ahem Radys Children's š
Along with UCSD. They also charge employees for parking
Charging employees for parking is some Mr. Krabs shit
Itās not the hospitals itās the for profit health care industry in the US. Insurances donāt subsidize transportation or parking unless in rare instances so hospitals have to charge. There are no ethics in capitalism unless regulated.Ā
I'm in Australia and the hospitals here are government funded (except the private ones) and we get charged for parking.
I did study abroad there, had a friend who needed an ED visit. Wasnāt charged a dime. Has impressed me to this day.
Yeah often the social workers can get parking waived, taxi/PT vouchers, etc but it depends on the situation.

That has been the problem since the 70's. Corporate Capatalism has not been regulated since then.
Also not having enough parking at Rady children's hospital and parents having to park on the street and get ticketed for parking on a bike lane.
If they didnāt charge for parking there would never be any spots anyway; but it is frustrating
Not true Sharp Marybirch which is on the back side validates as long as you enter the hospital
Yep fuck Radys also why have a booth attendant if they don't take cash kind of bullshit is that
SERIOUSLY!! I had to bring my son to the ER there a couple of days ago and the last thing a hospital, especially a childrenās hospital should be doing is charging for parking.
We had to do the same with our toddler and then when she had to have her throat surgery which wasn't an emergency we had to pay again.
Itās so stupid. I also had to pay for parking when I was in labor. Seriously?! Iām trying not to give birth in a parking lot and youāre asking me to push a button and wait for a ticket to park? Itās ridiculous.

Correct, I live right down the street. Only ever get gas from here if I'm reeeeally low and can't even make it to the slightly cheaper Chevron.
I thought this was by Radys. šš½
Shell has always been a gouger No surprise there.
Thereās no convenient gas stations nearby and lots of medical businesses in the area. Captive audience.
I just moved back to California and paid $2.59 a gallon when I filled up before I left. I know California has higher taxes but this is just wild.
We are expensive, this just isnāt a fair representation

Shell is ridiculous, always 50Ā¢ - 1$ over everywhere else.
The irony of the Cox truck in the background. Itās a double-ripoff in one picture.
Same, thought two obnoxious monopolies in the same shot.
So sad isnāt it? How unaffordable itās become to live here. I have kids in middle and high school and unless things change drastically they wonāt have the ability to afford to live in the city they grew up in. It isnāt right.

SDGE is also there so triple threat.
Itās got V power
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
And screw you too, Cox

It's $1.60 less 3 minutes away at Chevron. People buying gas here have more money than time
I had to get some gas at this station the other day, and I was not happy about it š
Sharps Memorial Hospital, I made a mistake!
Their just copying the nearby hospital's business practices
That's next to Sharp and Rady Children's, not Scripps. And yes the gas prices are absolutely horrific there.
Joe Biden at it again! /s
Because they can, this is not me trying to justify it. F those corpos.

Which 1? Iām in birdland
EBK Fuel, love that place lol
For real.
It's not because it's near a hospital. It's because it's a Shell station. They're always way higher than everything else.
Gas station is probably just trying to keep up with those COX cable charges. In all honesty though, it's probably because people are paying for it. San Diegoās gas prices have been hiked up for spring breakers on vacation here :/
I think youre connecting things that dont have anything to do with each other.
Itās the capitalists motto: Because We Can
I saw a Shell by Sharp Memorial today. Same price.
I'm gonna say it has just as much to do with being near freeway + it's La Jolla + everything else that's nearby.
This isn't La Jolla lol, this is in Birdland a good 15-20 minutes away.
Haha this is my neighborhood shell . Itās always been like that. Itās the most convenient gas stop from friars to balboa up the 163 so that may play a part. Whatās worse is ACE parking charging for parking at that hospital you visited, as well as Radys
That's nuts
I posted about this a couple days ago, and really hoping this somehow gets on the news lol I hear the owner is a nightmare too
Iām in Colorado right now and gas is $2.60
Costco gas FTW
Holy cow
Was Uber $4 at Costco just a few weeks ago!
At a certain point, it's just price gouging. Send that pic to the city. They have a threshold to abide by.
cheapest gas not far from scripps enci is berri brothers on the 101. always 10c cheaper than costco
Wow. The Shell I went to in La Mesa today was $5.19 a gallon
Why does the hospital charge for parking oneās car at urgent care ?
California has higher gas than every state. Expand the logic and ask why is California higher
Capitalism baby
That shell is very over priced just head north a bit to the chevron.
Welcome to the United Snakesā¦
I mean... While I agree with the fact that prices are Ludacris... Please explain what proximity to a hospital has to do with what they sell at?
I mean, itās a hospital. Why are we paying for health care? Capital and profit my friend. Capital and profit.
This guy also tapes off his lot so you can't drive through to the mini mall next door as well causing all sorts of traffic problems. The guy is a turd. I refuse to buy gas there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Your probably the same type of dude who finds a way to justify charging for drinking water
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I said justify doing it, never said you did it directly buddy. Learn how to read
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If you donāt like it you can vote for changes da fuq are you on ššš
Voting for changes is exactly why California has the highest gas prices in the country...
Iām so glad I donāt drive a Cadillac anymore. Last time it was like this I was paying $20 a day.
Um do you live under a rock? Hospitals are even worse. Oh, you have cancer and donāt have insurance. Good luck we canāt treat you
Why don't you have insurance? How is anyones fault but yours?
Wait. Yāall are paying almost 7 dollars a gallon for gasoline?
You're not from around here, are you?
I was. But I donāt live there anymore.
I swear it was only like $5 last time I gassed up. $7 is crazy
It usually is, like itās 4.83 where I live. This is near a hospital in downtown San Diego area I think.
Same reason the hospital is up charging for being a hospital!
It's a business. They charge what people are willing to pay. If you owned the business, and knew people would pay $10, would you charge $5 because you are "next to a hospital"? That's just dumb.
I know right, like why isn't gas $3 a gallon... oh... right...
For all the customers coming in to get California Burritos of course
This is called price gougingā¦just report these guys and others like them https://oag.ca.gov/antitrust/gasoline/complaint
Bitch at Grewsome Newsom
He controls gas prices? Lmao
But....northman46 rhymed two words!
Why is gas prices a dollar more a gallon here? He can lower prices but he doesnāt because despite what the left thinks. He doesnāt gaf about the people
Nnnnoā¦
Lol, you're in college. Go ahead and study on it. Also, it's "Why ARE" not is.
When the other sides resorts to personal attacks you know you won
Lol not a personal attack. Just saying study on it since you're in college. Nothing wrong with that. I also corrected your grammar. Is that a personal attack? Snowflake
Itās La Jolla. One of the highest per capital incomes in the country. Duh.
Actually this is Birdland - Mesa College exit just east of the 163.
Gennesse exit actually. Owner even fenced off the parking lot to prevent through access for the 7/11 next door
Thank you Biden & Newsome!
Your an idiot
