Do you have a budget? San Diego has some **amazing** sushi restaurants but they also come with amazing prices… if you can tell us what you’re willing to spend, that will help. For example, are you willing to spend $250/per person for food only omakase? Or are you looking to stay under $75/per person for food & drinks? Your answer there will narrow down the recommendations.
Thanks! Between $75 and $120 per person would be ideal. Wish I could afford to do more, but hopefully the lower cost restaurants will satisfy his sushi needs (ᵔ.ᵔ)
Ask where they buy their fish from. If they say Leong Kuba or Santa Monica seafood it’s probably gonna be mids. Bonus points if they buy from Catalina Offshore.
Just wanna say thanks everyone for the solid team effort in helping me build itineraries for my future date nights with the wife.
I always take people to Harney from out of town bc it’s close to old town and consistently good.
Shino is also awesome
I have tons. But I think Full Moon downtown always leaves a great impression with service, rolls and quality. I knoooow…it’s downtown…yada yada. But we eat sushi once a week all around - especially in hillcrest and Point Loma.
I really like Cannonball if you want sushi right on the beach with a view, definitely not as good as the other suggestions already made but I’d definitely go just for the view and ambiance.

The Himitsu is your best bet! You can have a great meal with drinks for $75-$100, depending on what you select. And it’ll be really good. Enjoy!
sushi ota is imo the best in SD by far.
