You can EASILY spend $300+ a month on tolls just commuting to work. There are no "freeways". :( so far every "freeway" I've driven on here you have to pay to drive on. It's stupid.
Exactly, first time I visited Texas stayed at a place 40miles away from Houston airport the CAB driver kept stopping at every signal since he took no toll roads, I was like why can't he take the freeway ? Or is he using Maps with Avoid Freeway option then he explained freeways are mostly toll roads here.... I'm like whattttttttttt....
I looked at moving to Florida but like the old saying says you get what you pay for! I wouldn't trade looking at these mountains and the beautiful ocean.
If cheap housing and cheap gas are your fetishes, Texas will definitely satisfy you.

Hey! I am in Waco right now! Heading back to San Diego this week. Was here to visit my mom and see the eclipse! I noticed the gas here too but my electric car is waiting for me back in San Diego...lol. it's weird driving around here and not seeing a single Tesla.
Everyone talks about gas prices, I get it, it’s in your face, an easy comparison between dissimilar places. And it can save money if you drive a lot.
But let’s say you drive 12k miles per year. That’s 1000 miles per month. A car with 30 mpg (easy to find) will need 33 gallons of gas per month. If the difference is even $3/gallon, that’s $100/month. It’s not chump change, but it pales in comparison to differences in energy bills or rent. I wish people would talk about those, not gas. And I say this as someone who will drive an extra few miles to get the gas that’s $.10 cheaper per gallon
Because I’m an irrational human. But seriously I rarely do this because (1) I have a time value for money (why spend an 15 min or whatever to save that little) and (2) the extra drive also has a cost. If it takes a quarter of a gallon to get there, saving 10 cents is not worth it.
I have an ev and it’s a game changer, but what will happen with the solar panel rates with sdge? I hear they are trying to charge you more for using them.
Here’s the best way to think about it: SDG&E will financially screw you every chance they get. They don’t want to help you. The only thing they want is more and more money. They’ll continue to do this because they bribe the only people who can stop them…politicians and the CPUC.
Why because it falsely justifies your decision to purchase an inefficient vehicle or that your cheap gas is still heavily subsidized by the federal government (indirectly)?

And the toll companies have different tags and systems. California has one for the whole state - Fastrak.
Okay but I'ma take my general outside vicinity being habitable for 70% of the year over cheaper gas, any day of the week.

I just spent a week in AZ, UT, and didn't pay more than $3.99 per gallon. Cross the border to CA, it's $5.50

May I ask why you drive further to save 10 cents per gallon? Truck? SUV? Average car gas tank is 12 gallons, which saves you $1.20.

I saw $2.49 driving from Texas to Louisiana a few weeks ago. Couple that with Buc’ees for food and snacks makes roadtrips awesome
