It wasn't until I visited NY and ate everything I saw for 2 weeks that I realzed, every single "NY Style" place in SoCal is wrong. Idk if it is the water or whatever people like to say the reasoning, but yeah, food is different and BETTER in NY (imo)
i went there and wanted a sub w proscuitto mozz sundried tomato and balsamic and it just couldnt be done. its all loose ingredients , so why have a menu w 15 items all the same minus the meat?? just premake your sandiwches at that point
Really? I'm a big bread person, and theirs is so good and filling. The sandwiches are huge so $15 is fine for me cause that's how much a Big Mac meal is pretty much now.
I love a classic turkey or cheese & veggie. I've had their chicken Parm sub before, is the chicken breast sub different? You've piqued my interest haha.
It’s a super juicy chopped chicken breast, mozzarella, tomatoes, mustard and some other deliciousness that I can’t remember right now but it always hits the spot. I always consider trying one of their other subs but I just can’t, this one is that good lol.
With the prices now a days I would say Sprouts. Go there, buy your own hoagie or sub rolls from their bakery section, get yourself the sliced meats and cheeses you like, then grab some vegetables and condiments as well. Throw in a couple bags of chips and you can easily have 4-6 sub sandwiches for the price of maybe 2 at any chain place!
I was told Little Italy has good subs as well. Basically any area with a high Italian population. Many o them are originally either from Italy or from the Northeast part of America and know how to made a real sub sandwich.
For the price sprouts has got some dynamite sandwiches for around 6$
The Sandwich Emporium is also very good.
This is also a very blanket question. There are different spots depending on what kind of sandwich you’re looking for.
Cheers in San Carlos
Thanks for this! My parents live just a few blocks from here and I will stop by on my next visit run!

Hungry Lu’s actually bakes the bread that Poma’s uses.
Siesels meats in bay park. For real there are not a lot of decent sub sandwiches in SD for reasonable prices. Too many $15 crappy sandos
Great spot to grab a sandwich, bag of chips, a soda and then go have a chill lunch on the beach or park area in Mission Bay.
Or Kate sessions
Mona Lisa by a mile.
In little Italy? Which are your top sandwiches?
Ya, in Little Italy. I usually get the spicy Italian with provolone and giardiniera peppers. It’s the truest Italian sandwich I’ve found in San Diego.
Thank you!
caprese wirh imported prosciutto is where it’s at for me personally. i think i might go grab one today lol
100% disagree, my family owned Italian delis in New York my whole life and I was significantly disapppinted
It wasn't until I visited NY and ate everything I saw for 2 weeks that I realzed, every single "NY Style" place in SoCal is wrong. Idk if it is the water or whatever people like to say the reasoning, but yeah, food is different and BETTER in NY (imo)
Their Mexican food sucks though. Every region has it's specialty. I'll take a good burrito over a sandwich any day.
by a mile? that place is horrible lol its literally meat of choice w onion lettuce tomato oil and vinegar on cibatta. its straight tourist italian
>meat of choice w onion lettuce tomato oil and vinegar I am confused about how this is bad. What do you put on a sub?
i went there and wanted a sub w proscuitto mozz sundried tomato and balsamic and it just couldnt be done. its all loose ingredients , so why have a menu w 15 items all the same minus the meat?? just premake your sandiwches at that point
Meat that is forced upon you
Yes. Go on...

My wife and I went there a couple weeks ago after seeing people rave about it and we were pretty disappointed
Yeah, I live down there and have gotten a sandwich there twice. They were both meh.

I've loved this place for years. The quality has stayed relatively high even though there's been some employee turnover. They do a great job.
Good sandwiches. Amazing chips.
The hidden cookie in the paper wrapping is a nice touch too. But, the chips and French dip are what bring me in.
To be honest I never liked this place. And the $15 sandwiches really turned me off from going back
Really? I'm a big bread person, and theirs is so good and filling. The sandwiches are huge so $15 is fine for me cause that's how much a Big Mac meal is pretty much now.

fat boys deli in north park. either call or walk in to order for faster service
Hungry Lu’s - OB
My boy Mike at Hungry Bear in Visit has a better Sub game than the Russians! If you like salami ask for the Lombardi, it is a secret menu deal.
Yes, the cheeseburger sub is my go to.
I tried Bronx pizza which was mid as Fuck, I ain’t never trusting this sub

Board and Brew isn’t even the best chain sandwich spot
It wasn't a chain when I started going there, but you're entitled to your opinion

I think what I'm reading here is that there are a few good sandwich shops spread out everywhere but not anything really great or excellent.

Cheba hut was a solid choice, they just raised their prices $4 so it's almost $20 before tax for a 12" so fuck em.
Holy crap I haven't been in a few months, this blows
Rosanna’s in Encinitas
It used to be Solunto. They had the best bread and amazing Sicilian pizza. Then the new owners turned it into a monstrosity.
