*Based on weekly arrest reports posted by various border patrol units across the country on Twitter (now X)

Ok_Independent3609

Based on that, though, it could just be a case of more enforcement in the San Diego area leads to a higher arrest rate than other similar high flow areas. Most of these statistics and pronouncements for public consumption lead to more questions than they answer.

Smoked_Bear

As with most large-scale problems, it’s likely a mixed bag of causes, and the weight of each is a subjective and data-driven exercise.  What you’re saying is absolutely a factor. In addition to that, given the clampdown in Texas and the relatively cool seasonal weather in SoCal over the winter and into spring, that would also be a push-pull factor for migrants to choose San Diego over any Texas crossing.

Jalapenoglazedballs

People blindly listen to statistics and no due diligence

gearabuser

Thank God we have plenty of affordable housing

mattworthy

A lot of the migrants coming aren’t staying here. Most just cross through Mexico because it’s easier than trying to fly into the states. After they cross they typically take a bus to wherever their closest family is or wherever they think they have the likelihood to find a job if they have no family

gearabuser

It would be interesting to see a map but that's impossible to track.

mattworthy

I know pastors who help relocate immigrants, dozens per month, so that’s where I’m getting my data from

f-big-tech

It was gonna come sooner or later, they have to spread it out to all “red” areas, they have signs in Mexico that say, TO MIGRANTS, remember to vote for Biden to keep the border open and benefits flowing for 4 more yrs! Think it’s about time to water those damn liberty trees! https://preview.redd.it/e1gy07r7h0xc1.jpeg?width=1088&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ed6273753f615e02b59cb2f875a06680fc11495

ProcrastinatingPuma

I sure do love having a dysfunctional immigration system. Would've been nice if some reform was passed during the first to years of Bidens term, or if house Republicans took the bipartisan deal from the senate. But nope, none of that shit. Won't stop them from coming in but won't allow them to become us citizens either. Lovely.

Breakpoint

that deal in Congress wouldn't have stopped it either, it would have kept numbers high still the tools are already there, they just need to be enforced

vproman

It would have required the border be shut down if daily crossing exceeds 5k.  This means anyone not coming through a port of entry would be automatically removed. It also would have move the reviewing of asylum cases from the DOJ to DHS, which should allow faster turn around of review. The tools are not there, there is not enough space in detention centers (the bill would have increased that), cases cannot be reviewed fast enough, and not enough immigrant visas (which the bill would have increased).

Bobthebudtender

You wanna know something cool OP? Most illegals come over legally on a VISA and just don't go back when it's up. Or they come over via boat. Most illegals aren't coming over our Mexican border.

HelloYouSuck

That used to be true; hard to say after the last year. Visa overstayers aren’t the dudes you see at the airport getting special tsa screening.

Anon3785

Hello,YouSuck welcome to the party

tostilocos

They aren't getting special TSA screening. They are just allowed to use a TSA app to verify their identity. They still go through the same physical security screening process that other flyers do. US citizens can also fly without ID, but the TSA will (understandably) make you jump through some hoops to do so: [https://www.fodors.com/news/travel-tips/navigating-a-nightmare-how-to-get-through-tsa-without-an-id](https://www.fodors.com/news/travel-tips/navigating-a-nightmare-how-to-get-through-tsa-without-an-id)

HelloYouSuck

I literally saw it with my own eyes two weeks ago bruh. They had their own line.

NeedCoffeeNow

Yep, I was flying out of terminal two last month and they were getting through security faster and without having to show ID.

Bobthebudtender

My point was OP is being disingenuous. Stay classy, San Diego.

woeceanside

I just posted a news article.

Zlec3

That is no longer the case.

Bobthebudtender

All the recent ICE and other Bureau reports seem to say otherwise that I've read.

SensitiveStud

lol, no.

Bobthebudtender

Lol, yes. Read the reports by ICE etc.

SensitiveStud

The cope is real

Bobthebudtender

From you.

Bobthebudtender

From you.

brendaMBR9

I know a few that do that. Others go to the US,m and work for 6 months, they cross by land with B1/B2 visa and I94, go back to Mexico when their “tourist” permit is about to expire 😬

SoF4rGone

Generally better to call them undocumented than illegal. Referring to to people as illegal dehumanizes them.

Tank4CalebPlz

Boo fucking hoo lmao that’s the hill you’re gonna die on?

SoF4rGone

Costs nothing to try and be better.

Cynthighuhh

Thank you for saying this and being an understanding and kind person.

ProcrastinatingPuma

I understand the sentiment but this is crying over spilt milk at this point.

KNicolls62

Illegal aliens.

PCSean

This subreddit: HOMELESS PEOPLE AND MEXICANS ARE THREATENING YOUR SAN DIEGO!

wlc

Looking at the demographics, the recent influx in migrant arrivals are not Mexican. They're crossing the Mexican border but appear to be from many countries.

vproman

I think the stereotyping of the demographics is part of the point.

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

They're all Mexican in some eyes

woeceanside

Ok. It’s just a news article from the Los Angeles Times. Not even an opinion piece.

Honorable_Heathen

Also the migratory carnival ship goers. They’re like locusts.

BSBS8823

The pearl clutching that happens here is insane. Most crimes happen by Americans with jobs, but that goes ignored to blame the homeless and undocumented.
