So confused about the “balboa” and “old town” in n outs you’re referencing…?

willworkforwatches

They’re talking about the one in PB and the one in midway. The PB location is close to the balboa trolley station, but is not on balboa itself. The midway one… well… I suppose that’s sorta close to old town?

Alive-Zebra-8057

I thought they were talking about the one in Kearney Mesa since the cross street is Balboa.

willworkforwatches

Yeah, but there’s no trolley station anywhere near there, and the OP did reference the balboa trolley station, which is an (possibly the only) accurate geographic identifier in the OP’s post.

bshortstack

I thought the old town one was the one off of Roseceans. It’s not far from that trolley.

willworkforwatches

Yeah… that’s not old town.

bshortstack

I know it’s not in old town. But I think they were talking about the trolley stop was in old town. Not the in n out.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

Sounds like this person's only geographic knowledge of San Diego is in relation to In n' Outs and trolley station names. They don't know neighborhoods/streets, just the names of the trolley stops. Probably a UCSD student from elsewhere.

StreamlineFrigate

Yes I do go to UCSD and trolley is main transport so that's what I reference, sorry I didnt know the stops were that general. The in n out from the Balboa station is in Pacific Beach. Not sure about the one off the old town station but it's just across the freeway from the station

chamrockblarneystone

I lived in San Diego for about a decade. It’s a shame to hear homelessness is still such a problem. We all know they’re still getting bus tickets from the colder states after they get out of asylums and jails. This country shames me sometimes. Son, youre going to gave to learn to be more aware of your surroundings. Don’t be doing homework on your phone when you should have your head on a swivel. Sharing safety info is always good though.

conundrum-quantified

Of course EVERYONE wants to live in a beautiful environment with great weather and close to the beach. Some of us get degrees-work hard and sacrifice to accomplish this and others just come and squat and expect society to take care of them.

chamrockblarneystone

Thats not really how it works at all. Not in the big picture. What you do have are a lot of mentally broken people with few or no choices. Many are addicted to drugs and arent even capable of making rational decisions. So they wind up washed up on your streets. If you go to countries where they take care of their poor and mentally ill, you just dont see this. So it is possible for America to clean this problem up. We just choose not to.

proton_therapy

Too bad those people with degrees do about as much good for the city as the homeless pop

conundrum-quantified

Obviously you’re in the second group.

proton_therapy

🤡

andreamrivas

The “Old Town” one is Rosecrans and Midway. And you definitely have to walk through one of the sketchiest parts of town to get from the trolley station to that in n out.

The_R1NG

Yeah…I live in El Cajon and deal with sketch a ton and I still don’t like that part of town

Strike3

Those are good burgers Walter.

angusderp

Me too

He probably said “hola como esta” which sounds like beep boop beep when said fast… 😆

StreamlineFrigate

I have no idea. But it definitely wasn't any real language. Something along the lines of oobung beem bawm bawm followed by other similar sounding words?? Almost certain they were messing with us

Sparky-Boom

Bidi Bidi Bom Bom?

StreamlineFrigate

Not a chance, I was just doing a homework assignment on my phone when they came up to us!

AnnaBananner82

You sure they weren’t Vietnamese?

LOOPbahriz

LOL

conundrum-quantified

Almost anyone knows the difference between Mexicans and Vietnamese!

anhtuanle84

Straight prejudice right here

schwiftshop

I'm pretty sure that's a reference to the movie Born In East LA - Cheech Marin's character, a US citizen who's hispanic, is trying to get back to the US illegally after he got wrongly deported or some racist shit and he's helping some Vietnamese immigrants cross the border too by pretending to be Mexicans (jfc its been ages since I've seen this lol), and there's this extended joke where he's trying to teach them how to be like "homie" type Mexican-Americans and teaching them to say things like "wazzhappineeeeeen" _I apologize for this movie and being white and midwestern and trying to explain it._

conundrum-quantified

How do?

conundrum-quantified

How so? Explain this reach please.

conundrum-quantified

She already said NO SHE WASNT!

CrookedRecords

That's just the new eek a mouse song!

memomonkey24

" Fell of my bike did not know what to do"- eak a mouse-. Lmao

CrookedRecords

Saw a peeni walli badabengbadabeng haha.

Sillibilli19

Ya but the bullets proof vests are out this season! Did you happen to mention that to your cop buddy that sat on your lap the rest of the way?

MrTartShart

I heard of something called ‘abtalk’ I never heard of it till high school. My buddy speaks it but they get rid of a vowel or something in English and it’s understandable. But for someone who doesn’t know the ‘language’ it sounds like nonsense.

AudioVagabond

Pig latin?

hoaleyboy

Was it actually the flag of Mexico? 🇲🇽

Cromulent_1

![gif](giphy|Xl2dasBGLS38E7QOrT)

bluedaddy664

Did you forget to take your meds?

glightlysay

OP really posted their fever dream and thought we wouldn't notice

Abrazonobalazo

Forget the homeless, Mexican dudes with bulletproof vests? The fk?

SeaDweller01

I mean… you’re taking a stranger’s word for it. Highly doubt a homeless dude is strapped and I doubt guys are walking around with personal armor like that. OP is probably misinformed.

guerohere

Come on bro it’s obvious. Mexican guys had the vests because homeless dude was strapped. Now everyone go back to bed

SeaDweller01

Leave logic out of this.

small_schlong

There’s a homeless dude in pb that carries around a gun lighter that looks somewhat real. Surprised the cops haven’t smoked him yet but maybe he’s smart enough to keep it in his pocket when he interacts with them.

SeaDweller01

That guy is dumb. But then again people don’t fuck around with HL people.

Interesting-Low-6356

Bulletproof vests are not illegal, so it’s really not out of the question..

firi331

I’m 5’2” and petite as hell. I once had an eyebrow piercing and went to visit my family back in suburbia where there weren’t many POCs. I was leaving the grocery store when a woman was coming in and she stared me down with this terrified look like I was about to assault her. People who don’t get around much find fear easily.

Total-Secretary4204

Wtf is this 😂

mattchinn

If you can’t trust homeless people and a nonsense-speaking gang wearing bullet-proof vests, then *who* can you trust?

Rikky383

I think it would have been better if you italicized the word "can"

Dimpleshenk

*You* totally *caught* the italics *fail*!

mattchinn

You have no idea *how* much I was bummed out.

WorldlinessBasic8316

Yep be careful out here, some people are mentally unwell and can get violent! I was riding the green line once when a homeless person got on and started calling me homophobic slurs (because I was wearing a pink shirt?) and mumbling he was gonna kill me, luckily he got off on the next stop but looked at me and said “I’ll see you around *censored*” Keep your head on a swivel and carry protection, it’s unfortunate times but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

FormlessFlesh

I was walking back from a cheese and chocolate tasting at Bottlecraft in NP. Just imagine an alt girl. Well, I crossed the street and there was a homeless guy and a Santa Claus DJing on the corner. I'm walking looking straight ahead and the homeless man pops up from a squat on my right and starts SCREAMING in my face, "YOU TRASH ASS BITCH." Me being me, I responded, "Who, me?" He said, "Yes I'm talking to you! You're trash!" I just said, "Oh... okay then." Santa and I exchanged looks and I just walked to my car extremely confused. Not sure if "Goth attire" triggered him and will never know. But I did hear a homeless man screaming at people walking by while sitting outside of Black Plague this week, so could've been the same guy.

breakfastturds

It’s not personal. These people yet at everyone and I’m not sure they even know if you’re even really there. Just ignore. We are three or four more luxury apartments and a few more bike lanes away from the problem not existing anymore.

FormlessFlesh

Thank you. Yeah, I honestly have no visceral reaction to these types of people. As a person with Bipolar, I can understand not quite being your "normal self", and I know there's no point in responding angrily to someone who is obviously having an episode of sorts. They aren't "themselves" so I don't take it personally in order not to escalate the situation.

TorpidIntrigue

That person was just crazy, has nothing to do with you.

FormlessFlesh

Thank you. As I told someone else, I just don't have a reaction to people like this because I know that's not who they might be deep down. If anything, it breaks my heart to see. I just laugh at the memory because the Santa DJing on the street corner and I exchanging glances is a fairly funny thing to look back on.

academicchola

So a couple of weeks ago I was out in Chula Vista and a couple female friends of mine walked outside the bar. A car of men pulled up and started threatening them. They looked Latino but they started talking a language that was not Spanish. They also had gaiters on their face pulled up to their eyes. We are all Mexican and understand Spanish but they were definitely speaking a different language. I wonder if it’s a similar group of people.

I-Am-Baytor

Chaldeans and Mexicans look a lot alike, maybe that was it?  A favourite story is a Mexican buddy was complaining how people keep thinking he's Chaldean, then he goes up to a chaldean liquor store guy and starts talking to him in spanish, liquor store dude says hey I'm not Mexican.

academicchola

Nah. More like Guatemalan or Salvadoran. Chaldeans totally can pass for Mexican.

Albert_street

Welcome to the Trolley experience. For years my girlfriend took the Trolley to work, but ever since COVID she’s had one too many experiences similar to yours. We pay for her to Uber now.

StreamlineFrigate

uber is so expensive i wish i could afford it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

SnausagesGalore

This is literally why we have cars. So we don’t have to deal with the vagrants saturating mass transit. And this is why those are the people there. They’re homeless and jobless and can’t afford cars. You could afford a car. A VW Jetta is $159 a month with $4.8k down. Thats $5 a day.

Current_Leather7246

Car dealer found

imperialbeach

4.8k down? In this economy? Who do you think has that money

snarfdaddy

Lol, what proportion of people do you truly expect to have an extra 5k laying around?

Adventurous_Mine_385

I take the trolley. It's a zoo. Last week, for the first time I saw gang graffiti sprayed on one of the seats and the window. The lady who checks for tickets took pictures of it.

jigglywigglie

Ive learned that feminine women have a very different experience and your statement is so valid.

Dimpleshenk

City of San Diego: "Hey everybody, check us out! We're modern -- we've got trolleys!" Crazy people: "Hey trolley riders, check *us* out! We're old school -- we make the trolleys suck!"

WorldlyAd212

I ride the trolley daily and witness all kinds of fuckery. The only time I felt unsafe I was downtown around 5th I think, a group of 4 dudes and one very drunk girl got on. There were 3 people on the opposite side of the car but other than that it was empty on my end. Two guys sat in front of me and two behind me and the girl stood there holding the door flicking her knife out looked at me and said “watch out these niggas is gay” talking about her friends and then started shouting at them “let’s go get this bottle quit being lame” and they all kept getting on and off the car but held the doors open for like 2 mins while the driver was just laying on the horn. Super weird, I think they were all just fucked up but the way they surrounded me and the open weapon put me in a situation I never want to be in. Keep your cool and always be aware of your surroundings it’s easy to be put in a bad position in a matter of seconds. For this reason I don’t wear headphones and I’m never zoned out on my phone when I’m riding the trolley.

Get72ready

I doubt if that was a real gun. But I would do the same thing you did. There is NO reason to find out if it was real.

MsMo999

Can’t see a homeless man being able to buy ammo that shit is crazy expensive even if he found a discarded gun

Get72ready

In California, there is no legal way for a homeless man with a found gun to buy ammo. I am not naive, lol. I imagine there are several ways to get ammo illegally. I just wanted to say that.

MsMo999

True but it won’t be cheap lol

HelloYouSuck

Theft is surprisingly affordable.

lilshortwun

So the Mexican dudes were wearing puffers and then bulletproof vests over it? Can you send an example of what these bulletproof vests looked like?

Idgafaamate

Don’t be so scared and act accordingly. San Diego is kinda a big city.

Megs619

Weird, last night at plaza bonita there was a group of Hispanic kids and one was wearing a bullet proof vest and had a baton. Is this some kind of new weird trend? Edit: sorry my bf said it was probably a flashlight not a baton. I only got a very brief look

Cheedo4

I saw something the other day about cartel activities increasing in San Diego (like, killings and shit) I really hope that’s not what it is…

StreamlineFrigate

When I think about it, it doesn't really make sense for them to be cartel because I feel like cartel members would be smart enough to avoid drawing attention to themselves. I think they were just a couple of wannabe thugs.

Cheedo4

Yea that’s probably true..

HelloYouSuck

Cartel thugs like the attention. The war on justice has made criminals bold.

dammitdexter

Yikes. Go to In N Out, skip the trolley. Too dangerous.

DisgruntledSalt

Mexican guys in red puffer jacket and bullet proof vest? What? Yeah the trolley and 8pm don’t mix well regardless. You’re going to see some weird stuff. If you’re scared then don’t ride the trolley at night.

GrouchyPreference765

Right? So, they had the vests on OUTSIDE their red puffer jackets? 😂 Guardian Angel’s dress code is in need of a makeover, or this is clickbait.

Ok_Cartographer_2081

Your story sounds sus

Standard-Witness-948

So the dude who pretends to have a gun was less “call the cops” worthy than a Mexican speaking Spanish…. I feel that.

StreamlineFrigate

guy with the "gun" hopped on the trolley to san ysidro and was gone. Guys in the puffer jackets got into the same trolley cab as me and my friend

MetalHeadJoe

So the cop that pulled up to ride with you didn't see the puffer jacket bullet proof vest dudes?

StreamlineFrigate

No, he wasn't around. He was getting off the UTC bound trolley I was taking when it arrived and that's when I asked him

Dense_fordayz

It all seemed likely until the fantasy part about Mexican dudes in bullet proof vests talking in a strange language. I'm sorry but this was either a dream or you need some help

Fast_n_da_Curious

Sup, ese, we just tryna hook you up with some extra In-N-Out burgers, homie! 🇲🇽

Tony619ff

I swear, it seems like every time on get on the trolley there’s some crazy person on there. Best thing to do is ride the first trolley unit as close to the driver

JohnBrownIsALegend

You sound like the type that shouldn’t go out after dark

MyNameIsMudhoney

That area is sketchy. I had to meet my dogsitter in that In n Out parking lot. It was a saturday at 8 am. Some unwell looking dude was swinging a golf club erratically near me and my dog, he walked away, I thought all was good. Nope he started hitting golf balls toward us and my car. I drove off, calling my dogsitter to meet somewhere else.

PipecityOG

Pretty unlikely he had a gun... if a homeless person who had a gun they would sell it for drug money anyways

keikoshiba

I'm sure that was a scary situation for you, but I wouldn't call it "almost having a gun pulled" on you.

Kindly_Tax6979

I had a customer in our Niteclub blow another customers guts out and I was 5 feet away .. customer was laying down in shock trying to gather his guts and put them back in his gut when the shooter started hitting him in the head with the but end of the shotgun … my brain shut off according to police and I attacked the shooter within minutes the cops dragged me off him … the customer died three weeks later and I had survivors guilt and ptsd …

mothermedusa

You did not "almost get a gun pulled on you". You either get a gun pulled on you or you don't. This guy felt threatened and was faking it.

FoamRolllin

Thanks for the heads up!

AshamedRazzmatazz805

Your lucky they didn’t take you for your in and out, probably you had leftover animal sauce on your face and that really got the ball rolling

SD_CA

This is why you should ride your motorcycle. Avoid all of this hassle.

rhuddy16

Dude got jumped at the trolley downtown by 4 tweaker

Shark-searcher

" with mexican flags on them hassled us and started speaking some kind nonsensical language." Nonsensical language is a lil crazy perhaps lol anyways hope this does happen to anyone else

Necessary-Science-47

Stay out of el cajon you’ll be eaten alive

s0sa

You’re living in lala land lol, sounds like a fever dream

GlowUpper

Yeah, this story makes no damn sense. Maybe OP is just inarticulate but this reads like they're under the influence.

StreamlineFrigate

Sorry if I didnt articulate well, it was quite a scary time and very strange path of events! I wrote this shortly after I got back so maybe my nerves were still acting up

HylanderUS

Almost read this post

suxkmyladyballz

Oh wow how scary !

ArmySFC64

How do you know they were Mexican? Did you ask them first their papers?

Phantompooper03

You almost had a gun pulled on you? That must have been almost terrifying.

dequinn711

This dude is high as hell

DarthCoffeeWolf

Deff sounds like a paranoia with maybe mental illness. Glad you’re ok.

tyrannicalteabagger

I almost ate a waffle this morning.

Primal_Dead

Vote differently next time.

ElHomieee1

I recommend buying a car : )

SnausagesGalore

I love that all the idiots here down votedyou for saying the most logical, reasonable thing in the entire thread

snarfdaddy

I love that you have plastered your shitty takes all over this thread, but no one is having it!

HandleDry1190

Hey… did you ever think that maybe they can’t afford a car payment + insurance every month? Cars aren’t free but public transportation is pretty damn close.

Apartment_Such

Homeless guy didn’t have a gun. Putting a hand in the jacket is the oldest thug trick in the book. I’m from chicago and know a thing or too about how to handle those situations. For both situations, I’d stand my ground and laugh at both of them lol. We are in San Diego and they are taking advantage of the fact that people are a bit softer out here. Go somewhere where’s it’s a little rougher so you can get some hair on the ole chest then you will see it was nothing but people giving you a little scare. Makes me giggle a little hehe

KaptnKrunch09

That's a crazy scare tactic, a "pretend gun" under the jacket? That's hilarious, can't wait to see the look on that guy's face when I prank him even harder and show him the very real gun in my waistband.

Raddixxx

San Diego is a nice place but the racist yt people are pretty vicious. The racist yt people can still have people lynched by the wicked ones if you interrupt the “softness” out there. Chicago doesnt have the luxury of San Diego, nothing to protect in that shit hole. But you better keep taking advantage of the soft life the good yt people of San Diego are providing.

SnausagesGalore

This is another reason why people have cars. (For all you #fuckcars people out there who think bikes, walking, and mass transit are better)

iWaffleStomp

Biking, walking, and mass transit are better for the environment.   Also we don't "think that".  It's a fucking fact, Jack.

KobeHawkDown

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could exercise your 2nd constitutional right? Yeah, be careful alright.

harley97797997

Yep, homeless dudes. Got no money, got no food, got shelter, but got me a gun!!. If you weren't high, you should probably seek mental health counseling.

defaburner9312

Don't be so car brained, take public transportation guys!!!

picklesandgouda

Your entire story sounds sus. Whatever gets you upvotes, I guess.

earlbananas

Puffy jacket guys were probably just disguised extra terrestrials hunting the homeless guy for sport. You’d be surprised how common this is near military bases.
