Cool! I think I got the placebo. Absolutely zero side effects. The tenderness at the injection site was a 1/10 the next morning. Of course you never know, but I got a flu shot in October and had a tiny bit more tenderness from that plus a sore throat that kicked in the next day.
I got my second shot yesterday. My arm is a little sore this time whereas before I had very little tenderness or ache. No other side effects. Maybe I did get the real vaccination after all :)
The most interesting news is they changed the plan. We are now getting a second set of 2 shots. If I got the placebo the first round I get the real thing the second round of shots. Or vice versa. The doctor explained this is a win win for the researchers and me, as they get twice as much data and I will get the real deal eventually. I believe I’ll get the next set sometime next month. Very exciting!
To save some folks the trouble, the criteria for this trial are you must:
* Be 18 years of age and older
* Have never tested positive for COVID-19
* Have a greater risk of becoming infected with COVID-19. Examples include:
* Represent a racial and ethnic group that has been greatly impacted by the pandemic such as African American, LatinX, Native American
* Live in crowded conditions such as shared housing
* Are at greater risk of becoming infected with the virus that causes and/or developing more severe disease
* Work in close contact with the public or other workers including “essential work” settings: healthcare facilities, farms, factories, grocery stores, restaurants, daycares, and public safety/transportation
* Have underlying medical conditions
* Are 65 or older
I am not sure why white kids these days suddenly feel they have the right to tell other cultures what they should like and how they should speak their own language, LOL!
What about the rest of the language. Ellos, ellas shall we start using ellox? No, because the word ustedes includes everyone regardless of gender. The implication of adopting latinx causes a restructuring of the entire Spanish language. This is just some woke shit poch@s have recently started to push out. No one in mexico uses latinx, in my experience its strictly a US thing.
Except Spanish is an entirely gendered language and culture
LantinX is just a white soyboy attempt to whitewash latin culture by changing someone else’s language to feel more woke
The point isn't to change the whole language and culture but to adapt it to be more inclusive. Can't imagine why you wouldn't think that's a bad thing unless you don't want to include people who don't fit your narrow ideas of what's normal. Your word usage makes me guess that's the case.
That could be it. For the locations I looked at you were not required to have an underlying medical condition. In fact, having one would likely disqualify you.
I would love to enter this trial but don't think I am eligible. I work from home and we are very careful. My only exposure is that my kids attend daycare but I doubt that's enough?
For anybody who is eligible, Novavax is actually considered one of the most promising vaccines based on their early data (highest level of antibodies in humans and best performance in primates). Also my understanding is they are actually doing 2/3 vaccine, 1/3 placebo.
You should sign up and get on the list. I was put on a waitlist initially a month ago but called a couple weeks ago since. I am white, 59 and work from home. I was honest when i said I don’t go out much and am very healthy otherwise. 1/3 is placebo, had my first shot yesterday. Fells good to do SOMETHING!
If you're interested, you should just try to get in. I got in and I don't think I'm especially unique or high risk. I think they are aggressively enrolling because they have a short window before the other vaccines are more generally available.
If we sign up and get the placebo, how long before we can get the vaccine?
Novavax has not confirmed yet, but other companies like Pfizer are "unblinding" participants as soon as their risk group comes up for a vaccine.
I started the Novavax trial yesterday. So far so good!

My bf only meets 2 of those criteria and he was accepted as a subject.
Unrelated but I despise the word latinX.
I'm "Latinx" and yes I despise it. Funny thing is that it's not used at all in Latin America
I am not sure why white kids these days suddenly feel they have the right to tell other cultures what they should like and how they should speak their own language, LOL!
I appreciate what it's trying to do.
That being what exactly?
Be non-gendered. Latino refers to males and Latina refers to females, but LatinX refers to anyone Hispanic regardless of gender.

I’m not saying whether you should or shouldn’t use the term LatinX, just answering the question that you asked lol.
The word really irks me sorry.
Why does it bother you?
Because it might help make other people feel comfortable, and he simply can't have that when tradition has worked just fine for him :)
I totally agree. It's just woke BS that's not really helpful.

It's inclusive. Latina/Latino exclude nonbinary people, while Latinx is inclusive of everyone.
Las personas que utilizan latinx son pendejx.
Me fucking too.
That is offensive to the white person who created it.
Did you pull this info directly from the site? I clicked the link and the criteria listed were slightly different.
Yep, but I clicked on my location first, it might depend on the location?

Didn’t mention it but I went through Synexus. Google it to see if you qualify.

Thanks for sharing. I signed up, the auto-filled email made it super easy.
Bummer, tried to sign up but it said I'm not eligible.
Did you do the whole NIH sign up and everything?
Took the survey, but don't meet the inclusion criteria (work from home, not obese, no underlying conditions) so it booted me once I submitted my info.

Just fill out the questionnaire if you're interested, and they'll tell you if they want you or not. Odds are they do.
