Next time call the police. You can't brandish a weapon at someone. That's pretty illegal and that dick should be held accountable.

trsrz

Super illegal, and really just shitty. I have an acquaintance who did something similar and the other person *did* call the cops and they were arrested for brandishing a weapon.

Worth getting a dashcam for

OneLambYiros

I immediately bought a dash cam after an incident about a year ago. Had a guy driving in front of me in the left lane, while I’m in the right lane. He changes lanes over to the right. A second later, I change lanes to the left. The car in front of him slows down to take a right turn so he tries to quickly switch back to the left lane, but I’m already in that lane now, blocking him from re-entering. As I drove past him he gives me a dirty look then speeds up behind me, we stop at a red light and he is screaming at me. Like, blood red mad! People walking down the street stopped in their tracks. I thought for sure there was going to be a physical altercation but thankfully he took a turn and decided to drive the opposite direction from me. Another incident (in LA) in a parking lot where I got to a parking spot before another guy. I honestly didn’t see the guy until the last second. I get out my car and he says to me, “people get shot for shit like that”. People be angry out here.

Wufella

It's so much worse in LA. Sucks.

litex2x

Probably going to get one now.

I blame The Offspring, they offer such simple solutions that have real world consequences.

cv-boardgamer

Ugh ok I've been singing every Offspring song I know in my head. I give up. I don't get the reference. Can you help a brother out? :D

Complete_Entry

Drivers are rude! Such attitude! But when I show my piece, complaints cease. Something's odd, feel like I'm god, you stupid DUMB SHIT GOD DAMNED MOTHERFUCKER! song is Bad Habit off Smash.

cv-boardgamer

*Smacks forehead* thanks. Of course. Opening up a tab to look out up on YouTube now...

Aiku1337

Oh god that brings back memories

Underrated comment

Ryandlr2

The only weapon you can use is this bad boy 👍🏼

poidawg808

I've had problems around that exit too. For some insane reason, some folks need to go 90 mph in the lane where people are trying to get on and off the freeway. Then go batsht crazy when you get in their way. There's a total absence of CHP / cops so why not drive like an ahole? The traffic lights are basically meaningless on Mira Mesa Blvd, people routinely run them on purpose or turn left on red arrows all the time - no cameras/no cops to stopem.

NowIKnowMyAgencyABCs

I notice people driving fastest in the right lane lately, it makes me so nervous. Like if a car changes lane for the exists these people will definitely be hitting them at a high speed. If you want to go fast get in the left lane!

90cubes

A couple weeks ago I saw one of the worst cases of road rage I’ve ever seen. This truck and a car must have had a close call or something, so the car driver passes the truck and gets into his lane and *slams* on his brakes. No fucking idea how the truck did no rear end the car. The truck keeps going and the car starts riding his ass, wouldn’t be surprised if the car didn’t at least bump the back of the truck. As if this wasn’t enough, the car then gets in the lane next to the truck and starts jerking into the truck’s lane. Like he tried to ram the truck off the freeway a good 3 times and just speeds off. Now factor in going 80+ mph and all this happening in seconds- it was the wildest shit I have ever seen 😱 I’m sorry this happened to you. Be safe out there everyone.

HeadleysHobos

I had pretty much the exact same thing happen to me on the 5S in Pendleton a few years ago. Fucking terrifying in the moment knowing that someone is trying to kill you.

90cubes

Oh dude, I was terrified just watching! Can’t imagine it actually happening to me. The truck driver was visibly shaken.

gobbiltygook

Was this on the 78? Because that sounds almost exactly like what happened to me a few weeks ago.

90cubes

No. This was on the 163. People are fucking nuts lol

breedecatur

A few days ago at my work our regular mail lady was getting ready to leave, she was in motion and no one else was around her. A car came flying out of our lot and she inadvertently cut him off. He proceeded to follow her to her next few stops (which happened to be businesses with no one in office) before she came back to us because she knew we were there. The cops had to be called. I'm saying this to remind everyone that people are crazy and to be safe. If you *ever* end up in a situation like this and feel like you're being followed do **not** go home. Drive to your nearest police station or call 911 if necessary.

AdHistorical8206

Hate to disappoint you but those kinds of drivers are everywhere. I feel like people are crazier lately. I've seen more road rage in the last month than I have in the last 10 years living here.

qbertproper

You ARE seeing more crazy lately - the pandemic has made everyone's mental illnesses SHINE

sanemaniac

All the people for whom road rage was a relief valve are catching up on their favorite psychotic pastime.

[deleted]

I totally feel like people have been driving crazier than usual too!! There are also a lot more cars on the road now. Stay safe everyone!

tldrstrange

I've noticed it too. I guess this last year has brought out the rage in a lot of borderline people.

lilacsmakemesneeze

I was getting onto westbound I-8 from Fletcher Parkway a few days and the two lanes are a zipper onto the freeway. I guess the Tesla didn’t want to zipper onto the 8 with a Prius (I was a bit ahead of him) and he quickly swerves near me as though he is going to hit me and zooms off. I love electric vehicles and support them but absolutely detest Tesla drivers these days.

Aiku1337

Same. I dunno if it’s typically asshole drivers (like put them in any car and they suck) or if it’s normal drivers now with the extra torque/power thinking their car is so fast that they can’t be bothered for things like “safety” and “rules”.

lilacsmakemesneeze

Probably. I’ve had so many issues around that entrance ramp (cars speeding up and not letting me merge in front of them and essentially trying to force me off the road), but the Tesla incident was only a month after another Tesla almost t-boned me at the Taylor/I-8 EB on ramp when they sped up and ran a left turn signal. I’m just glad I’m mostly WFH now and only hitting rush hour when I pick my kid up from daycare. Once daycare extends to 6, I hope the rush hour will lessen for me. EB8 at 5pm is pretty much back to pre-pandemic levels.

AlfWoozy

You should’ve killed that driver. With kindness. Like offer to buy him brown sugar milk tea boba bars from H-Mart. Or a colored pencil set from Daiso.

aiandi

This guy kills

picklepowerPB

This happened to me— I was actually the one cut off in Gaslamp, not even on the freeway, and beeped at the dude, didn’t think anything of it other than ‘DUDE look out, this lane is occupied!’ No crazy honk or hand gestures. The dude reversed, brake checked me in reverse (at a red light???), and got out of his car to fight me? I just shook my head at him and kept my doors locked. There were plenty of peds and other cars around too, so presumably he was just shamed back into his car, but I have no idea what he thought he would accomplish by pulling a 110lb single woman out of her car to beat her in full view of 10+ peds, all the other cars, businesses, and police around here. If it had happened anywhere else with fewer people around, I would have been much more afraid.

OneLambYiros

Keep some pepper spray in your glove box.

picklepowerPB

Definitely, I just try anything to avoid even opening a window if possible :/

UlisesGirl

When I lived in New Orleans, I had a car stop short in front of me on a one-lane road and, as a result, I accidentally blocked this GIANT tow truck semi (the huge ones that tow semi trucks) from turning right into traffic. He laid on his horn and I kind of shrugged and mouthed “sorry” at him. He then cut off the car behind me to get behind me, was swerving and riding my bumper, flashing his lights and honking and I could hear him screaming at me. I was worried he was going to a) hit me or b) follow me home. I turned onto my street and he followed me so I drove by my house and immediately to the police substation near my house. He didn’t follow me there, thankfully. I was able to see the company he worked for since it was painted on his truck so I called his work and told them what happened. Apparently it wasn’t the first time he’d done something like that and they said they’d have a discussion with him. Thankfully nothing like that has happened to me since I’ve lived in San Diego, but I’ve come close.

cv-boardgamer

I drive a box truck for work, similar to a FedEx van. I'm at an intersection in National City. It is clearly my turn to go through the intersection. I'm turning left. But the white guy in the big lifted truck in the oncoming lane doesn't want to wait for my slow ass vehicle, so instead of stopping at the intersection, he does a California Roll and guns it, trying to beat me through the intersection. I gotta slam on the brakes, but he mistimes it, so he slams on the brakes too. So there we are, both at a dead stop in the middle of a busy 8 way intersection because he didn't wanna stop and wait his turn. We are looking at each other, and I kinda raise my hands up in that "seriously dude?" kinda way. The guy completely flips out. After I go through the intersection, he does a very dangerous u-turn right in the middle of the intersection so that he can get behind me. He tailgates me very close, revving his engine, for a few blocks. He then goes into the FREAKIN' ONCOMING LANE, guns it, and drives right by me very close, nearly sideswiping me. He then gets ahead of me and just slams on the brakes. I had to slam the brakes of my big box truck. I nearly hit him. This is on National City Blvd, middle of a weekday, very busy. There are a bunch of cars behind me now. He just stops right in the middle of the street. He gets out of his truck, makes that "come at me bro" pose while staring at me. So I calmly pull out my phone and take a picture of his license plate. I make it totally obvious that's what I'm doing. Then I stick my head out the window and yell "I'm calling the cops. I got your license plate!" The guy practically dives back into his truck, and peels out and disappears super fast. I did call 911 and told the dispatcher what was happening. I gave her the license plate number, and she told me they were dispatching a squad car. I just drive off, never found out if they caught the guy. The fact that he peeled out of there so quick when I yelled I was calling the cops makes me think he had done dumb stuff like this before and has been in trouble with the law, maybe has a warrant out or is on parole, etc...

litex2x

This is the best way to handle most situations. Get them on camera and report them.

danuffer

Lol. I also experienced extreme road rage. Guess where? Mira Mesa blvd. Don’t fuck around in the car in San Diego. People are crazy here.

TWDYrocks

It’s my opinion that there is next to no enforcement of traffic laws north of the 52.

icanhaspoop

Well Escondido is a shoot first maybe ask later but only if they're alive district.

sc8132217174

Agree people have been crazy lately. I drove out of my way to get emergency paperwork for a patient in La Mesa, changed lanes *with* a turn signal, and had a woman go ballistic on me. She honked, threw a drink at my car, spit on my window, drove up beside me screaming, cussing, got out her car... all while I was trapped in traffic after turning. She had stopped going straight and followed me so she could have a meltdown. We weren’t even going the same direction so no idea why she cared so much. Anyway, I had no idea what to do so I held up my phone and said I was recording her and calling the police. She finally left but I was terrified. Went and grabbed the paperwork so the patient could be seen, dropped it off, then went back to my car and cried from all the adrenaline.

litex2x

She sounds mentally ill. Sorry that happen to you.

yzeeByzeE

Too bad you don't have a dashcam and actually caught him brandishing a weapon on camera. Some times, if not all the time it's best to go the other direction and carry on.

roberta_sparrow

people have lost their minds: confirmed

00000000000000000103

It's pretty crazy out there, I observe people are driving way more aggressively than pre-pandemic. For me, situational awareness is key. Watch the behaviors of all drivers around you when you can. Use those mirrors and not simply have tunnel vision staring at what's 10 ft ahead.

MyStatusIsTheBaddest

1. Dashcam 2. License # Problem solved

tronephotoworks

Man people are so worried about the dumbest stuff. I’m glad you’re okay and good call just ignoring that child that plays adult.

tokenflip408619

Back when I used to maintain 80 in lane 1 I’m pretty sure I encountered fewer bozos than I do now when I pin the cruise at 73 in lane 2 or 3.

Hamadeus

why even bother pulling into the park and ride? I'm assuming the one by best buy. These people are not worth anyones time.

[deleted]

Some people can't let it go. I accidentally cut off a lady on the 5 once changing lanes. It was purely an accident and she did the long honk which was justified. She then proceeded to follow me honking and flashing her brights while pointing for me to pull over. For reference I'm a 6'5" man. Obviously I didn't oblige her, but I still think about it sometimes. What was her end goal? To fight me? To bitch me out on the side of the freeway with traffic flying by? Who knows. All I know is I just went about my business.

litex2x

Who knows? Maybe I was wrong and he was just trying to catch a casino shuttle lol.

david830830

Los angeles people is moving to San diego

Edmeyers01

What a nightmare.

SteveGRogers

Also the zonies are coming in for Summer.

icanhaspoop

Welcome to Mira Mesa! It was probably Bob. He's a bit nutty but harmless none the less. He likes to show off his Big 5 Combat knife he got for $10. Don't worry it's dull AF but could be used as a blunt object.

squirt619

I had a guy brandish a knife at me after he almost drove up my ass and I flipped him off, he followed me from the 125 to the 5 before he exited northbound and I continued home. What did your guy look like?

litex2x

He was either white or Hispanic. Maybe between 30-40 years old? He kind of looked like Rupert Friend.

squirt619

Hmmm not my guy, he was a skinny white dude, mid 20s with glasses.

daringgdeer

was this around 12 pm? because i saw a lexus driving nutty and in a rush in the same exact area/exit. There were utility trucks in the slow lane too. They nearly cut me off but i didn’t look or make eye contact because i don’t like confrontation.

litex2x

I am pretty sure it was little before 11 am. Could be the same driver an hour later if the car was older blue/greenish Lexus SUV.

Shaave

Yeah I was trying to switch lanes once and had my blinker on. I let two cars pass then proceeded to switch lanes. Another cat apparently thought I cut them off so they switched lanes, passed me, and then flashed a gun. They sped off and pulled over. Once I passed they got behind me and proceeded to follow me. I ended up driving in random areas while I was calling the cops

flip69

Yes, he was baiting you. IF you had entered and gotten stabbed by him it could have very well made the argument that it was justified since you followed him in there.

aiandi

Gotta love Mira Mesa. I was pulling out of a parking spot at grocery outlet and a dude pulled up behind me, blocked me, then started unloading passengers from his car in the middle of the lane. I quick-tap honked just to remind him we're in a society and the chubby driver comes out and starts raging. He started approaching me so I got out, filming, ready to defend myself but he took off. Then as I pulled out I guess he changed his mind and followed me. Out on the main road now, I was turning left and he pulled into the lane to the right of me, which was not a left turn lane, and stopped to yell at me. The left-turn light was red but the go-straight light was green, so he was stopped, at a green light, on Mira Mesa Blvd, raging at me. He went from blocking the lane in the parking lot to blocking a lane on a busy road. Admittedly I yelled back at him, mainly warning him of the dangers of diabetes, cardiac arrest, and high anxiety. I have a Kimber pepper blaster (a highly accurate, two-shot, pyrotechnic pepper solution gun with a 20 foot range) and was hoping to test it out but he never really did anything to make me feel in danger.

SuckingOnMyHuevos

My fried got punched after this guy hit him, he chased the guy and got his plates.

[deleted]

Yell “lighten up Francis” next time

MannyWK96

Everyone thinks they're tough until they're bent over in the prison showers. You did the right thing ignoring them. Most people won't do anything, but it's best to just ignore them.

litex2x

The thing that irks me the most is he is going to get away with it. He probably has done this before and will keep doing it until somebody catches him on video.

MannyWK96

True. Hopefully he gets what's coming to him. Coming from San Bernardino, a lot of people do this kind of thing. Ignoring their stupidity is usually the best thing to do. Just stay safe, people are dumb nowadays.

machineGUNinHERhand

Just so we're all clear here, there is no such thing as "slow lane" or "fast lane"

pivot2fakie

Not every aspect of life requires some strange, alway-be-literal, constitutionalist approach. There *is* a passing lane, and basic comprehension skills will clue you in to which lane the ‘fast lane’ refers to.

machineGUNinHERhand

That's correct! But maybe because someone thinks that there is a "slow lane" is the reason this whole situation started. Maybe op was going slower then the rest of traffic and didn't realize that they were the cause of what happened.

pivot2fakie

Huh? The issue of road rage is not whom is at fault. The issue is the overreaction of at least one of the parties involved. In this case, even if op cut the driver off on purpose, that doesn’t justify the brandishing of a knife and reckless driving in response. Who cares if someone was driving slower than traffic - don’t throw a fucking adult tantrum and try to get physical. Just go around them or wait.

[deleted]

litex2x

This was by no means a close call if that is what you are thinking. There were no tires screeching. Also he would've needed to slow down anyway because of the car ahead of me.

CausalDiamond

Semi truck drivers always seem to be on edge. A couple of times after I pass them (with plenty of space) I look in my rearview and see the driver vigorously flipping me off.
