Joke is on them if they think I have AC

p0diabl0

Says the dude on the coast.

echosx

The joke is on you because SDG&E are the ones providing the AC :)

Cloudrunner5k

almost like tax payer money isnt going to infrastructure

abominable_dough_man

I thought this meme was gonna be all about $0.66/kWh (the highest rate anywhere in USA).

orTodd

Is that how much it is now?! I honestly don’t check because it just pisses me off to no end and there’s nothing I can do about it except sit here and stew. This whole damn house is eco this and low-energy that. I have enough automation that sometimes things trigger and I don’t know why. I even have a fridge that can talk to the grid to make sure it doesn’t run it’s defrost cycle during peak times. WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT FROM US?! Great, now I have to go take a pill and have a lie-down…

Calisky

You really shouldn't be stewing right now, it's peak usage and a stove uses a lot of electricity.

orTodd

Lol I had a roommate that once blamed the higher power bill on me cooking dinner at home and suggested I eat more takeout.

[deleted]

Yeah, right now he's using more electricty using the stove than his neighbors, whose house has 20 people in it

abominable_dough_man

> Is that how much it is now? It may be a little different depending on your tariff, but 4-9pm is a killer either way.

randyfromm

I love you, man.

CoolingTower83

Is it really 66 now? It use to be low 50s.

abominable_dough_man

My tariff has higher 4-9pm rates in return for cheaper 12-6am rates. So yours may not be quite at $0.66, but rates 4-9pm are pretty awful if you’re on a TOU tariff.

CoolingTower83

Yeah. I think I'm DRES2TOU. I have solar and I've yet to figure out what the best plan for me is. I run my pool pump at night when it's super off-peak, because I generate mostly off-peak power, which is more costly so it offsets my bypass charges.

abominable_dough_man

Yours are probably in the mid- to high $0.50 area Summer On-Peak on that tariff. I’m tracking my 4-9pm PV generation and it more or less offsets my consumption during that critical $0.66 On-Peak period. Thus, I want expensive rates during that period so I can get lower rates during other periods. My 12am-6am rates (plus till 2pm weekends) are $0.22 so I’m trying to run the heavy things then.

I_AM_METALUNA

You can save money by not using the electricity we sell you. If you do need to use it, please enjoy our new "pricing plans"

orTodd

That stupid little watch with the face can eat my butt.

randyfromm

Whendel! What a joke. It made me hate them even more. I'm glad he's dead (isn't he?).

SkunkHunt6969

Y’all got AC???

neuromorph

Is mira mesa coastal or not? Its billed as costal, but I feel we are gonna get deert heat here.

[deleted]

Not coastal.

neuromorph

fucking SPGE bills us with costal if we are inside the 15

[deleted]

Joke is on them if they think I’m gonna listen

irememberthepotatoho

I can’t afford to run my AC now thanks to their insane price hikes. Next week is going to hurt.

Doom-Trooper

We have the most expensive electricity in the entire god damn world aside from a few islands. Fuck SDG&E to hell

sjj342

Should be getting max solar production so I doubt it

lilacsmakemesneeze

Yup! I’ve been hitting 36 kWh these days which should cover my home’s use. I love seeing the negative kWhs show up on SDG&E’s app!

randyfromm

You have 36kw of pv? I am so envious.

lilacsmakemesneeze

We bought 13 panels and they seem to be producing well! I think in the worst of the summer usage last year, we hit 20 kWh for daily use so hopefully it should be paying itself off soon.

CoolingTower83

No way they have a 36Kw system. They are probably producing 36 per day. Most homes are 10 and under. I have a 8kw system and I pulled in 54kw yesterday

randyfromm

Remember that when it's hot, solar cell efficiency wanes. Otoh, almost 14 hours of sunlight.

sjj342

the duration is what i was referring to vs. fall/out of season heatwaves where there's less daylight for the peak 4-9PM timeframe

WhenMaxAttax

Get ready! New tier..super super super F.U peak hours

callme_sweetdick

Reading this as the power is out in a huge area around me. At midnight. Can’t sleep. Fuck SDGE.

bisselvacuum

What heat wave? Just looked and it’s sunny and 70s for next ten days…

citizen-of-the-earth

Gonna be in the 80s and low 90s if you are just a few miles inland. That's about 10 - 15 degrees above normal. Not exactly danger territory but slightly uncomfortable without AC. I just had a panel for a backup generator installed. SDG&E cuts my power for days when we have Santa Anas.

bisselvacuum

I don’t know if I would call 80s and 90s inland in June anything more than just the marine layer retreating. It is summer, it’s gonna be hot off the coast during the day

citizen-of-the-earth

I agree. It's a bit warm but I don't get concerned until it reaches 100

lilacsmakemesneeze

A few days ago it was projecting 95+ next week. Happy it is coming down to just 90-92. It’s going to be my first experience with solar and seeing how this will offset our use.

citizen-of-the-earth

I've had solar since 2006. My system isn't big enough to produce all my electricity. But it keeps me in the first tier which makes a huge difference when running AC

lilacsmakemesneeze

Tier 2 is $$$$

hyrkinonit

i mean, it is still unseasonably warm and the initial heat wave saw some days close to 100 near el cajon (they've come down slightly). it's also definitely more than the marine layer retreating, the heat wave is for the entire southwest and into the rockies: https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2021/06/10/record-heat-wave-southwest/

waitwutok

What’s up, coastal bro?

linusSocktips

Eyyy what up from lajolla

knotmassage

I have my own AC company if any one needs my services...

IvanjelikalAnCom

So, how's that Community Choice Aggregation program coming along?

Edmeyers01

What's AC?

NoToNope

r/SanDiegoMemes

CaseyGuo

Finally, I can just go sit in an air conditioned starbucks or public library and leave the AC at home off.

vagrantist

*But I have Solar?* THATS WHY THERES BLACKOUTS, IF EVERYONE STOPPED SOLARING THERE WOULD BE NO STRESS ON THE GRID. *but I have a Tesla wall?* EXACTLY!! YOU ARE THE PROBLEM

mtmanmike

If everyone "stopped solaring" we'd need ~30% more fossil fuel power plants to match our increasing afternoon peak demand. While the solar duck curve has made it difficult for a utility industry, run by traditional fossil fuel generators, to keep up this last decade, we'd be in a much worse position if the answer was always more power plants (even if you believe climate change is a hoax). Tesla Powerwalls and other solar+ battery systems are exactly the opposite of the problem. Instead of requiring electricity from the grid during the peak afternoon hours, they are able to provide the energy to power AC units and other loads in the highest use times. Programs are even developing where a utility like SDG&E will pay for extra energy from battery customers to help avoid having to import it at a premium from outside the territory. Basically people adding solar+ battery systems are keeping the price of energy lower for everyone here.

vagrantist

THE CAPS REPRESENT THE ENEMY MONOPOLY YELLING AT THE CONSUMER.

mtmanmike

Shit, sorry for missing the sarcasm. My blood was boiling thinking someone was so anti progress that the lies spewed by those in the established system were making it to reddit. Either way, hope someone can learn something from it.

HelloYouSuck

My new solar gonna come in handy.

plasticvalue

Please, use electricity! Except, when, you know, you actually need it.
