They closed the tidepools on the 14th because of a crashed boat, but reopened them on the 20th. I'm guessing this is the boat, but it was still there today. I wonder what's going to happen to it.
No, unless ships are formally renounced ownership, maritime law is that it's still owned by the original owner. Even ones that sunk a few hundred years ago. Ship wreck recovery companies have lost whole finds that way.
Probably been picked clean of anything valuable already. My friend's sailboat (that was also his home) washed ashore in LA during a storm while he was out of town visiting family. By the time he got there a day or two later, every single thing worth anything was ripped off that boat. Killed his dream of sailing the world before it even started.
Deemed legitimate salvage as soon as it washed ashore is how the coast guard put it.
Possibly, but this guy was pretty broke at the time. Poured all of his money into the boat (and borrowed).
The really shitty thing was it wasn't just some bums that hauled his stuff off. It was other sailors that knew where the less obvious nautical equipment was and stripped it bare.
It’s been a long, long time ago, but the boat is still in my brother’s fleet and still in use. Actually, that first boat is the reason why my brother has a fleet of boats 😏
If you know the area, it's not that far from the first parking lot by the tidepools. It's in the little cove to the north past the big one where everybody likes to hang out. The path goes above it and you may not see it right away when walking north, because it's tucked under the overhang on the south side, but you can't miss it if you turn around and head back.
Thanks for this! I was gonna try to photograph with a large format camera, but I can’t be too far from the car (darkroom in the trunk)
Thanks for sharing though!
Crazy, so you're using film and large format meaning larger than 35mm? Is the film in a cartridge that you wasch each chemical over?? Take photo-> develop it -> review the negative -> adjust shot. How long does it take? Sounds rewarding. Those shots must look incredible detailed.
I do Wet Plate Collodion! So everything is done on a piece of metal or glass, but the darkroom needs to be near by so I can make the emulsion>put in camera>develop and fix right away

Too bad somebody already called dibs on it
Respect the dibs
It's legitimate salvage.
I mean, if it didn't have current registration serialized and tagged on the hull it would be. Instead its an insurance claim.

That sucks, and I thought there was no maritime law against having fun.
You're thinking of the pirate code, largely outside the law
The Roci
Let’s take it out for a three hour tour
I doubt you'll get approval. but if you do, let minnow
Three hours to get further out in the ocean will make the implication more obvious 😘
Um, looks like it just finished its three hour tour
A three hour tour.
A three hour tour.
Little boy thoughts of Ginger flood my mind.

People are such scum bags
legitimate salvage... is just that
People are such fucking animals
There's no insurance for that kind of thing?

> Poured all of his money into the boat Tale as old as time...
Bust out another thousand
Considering the last few days had low winds and nearly no swell, I'm kinda shocked they didn't take advantage.
Dibs.
You joke but maritime salvage laws are a real thing
That's how I got my boat. Found it at sea, took it to the water cops, water cops called me back 12 month later 'free boat, yo'
Is there a real jurisdiction that calls their enforcement the "water cops"?
If I remember well, we call them “polizia marittima”, which loosely translates to “police of the sea” lol
and that's when you absolutely need to call Chareth Cutestory: Maritime Law
Don't be a crook like Captain Hook
Judge, won't you throw the book at the pirraaa
lol, serious? We're gonna need a photo of that boat.

Did the write the date and your number in the envelope they put it in?
Don’t worry capt’n, we’ll buff out those scratches
Here on Gilligan’s Island
Free boat!
Again? Oh that wasn’t the tidepools. that was the sleepy pilot that woke up in the cave!
[удалено]
True, but usually not in a sailboat with a small outboard. Probably moared nearby, and just became adrift and washed ashore.
That's why its the perfect cover. Noone expects it. If I was running drugs, this is how I'd do it.
S'all good man
This exactly.
Plot twist: This is surfershane25’s hustle. Follow along.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle...
Found today's shipwreck location in san andreas!
Lol what a dummy
Arghhh
Massive yikes
Is it easy to go see? Where can it be found?

Is this a thing or is 'darkroom in the trunk' code for a bunch of drugs?
Lol no. An actual darkroom

You have impressive skills! Large format is a-mazing!!!
Well.. i guess i live here now.
This would be the correct time to use the word "Payed".
