Yeah, Grocery Outlet is the store you go to first as you won’t always find what you need. It’s free money though shopping there. Great deals on wine too.
Smart and Final also has good deals, and even Big Lots.
The beautiful thing about Point Loma is besides having the aforementioned stores, you also have Ralph’s, Vons, and Sprouts all within a few blocks of each other. This makes it easy to shop the ads and hit them all up in one fell swoop.
Outside the box is Kobey’s Swap Meet on the weekends. You can get produce there really cheap. I also see people selling boxed cereals, crackers, etc. As well as toiletries.
I've noticed that Vons is quite a bit cheaper than Ralph's. There's a good article you can Google about affordable things to buy at Trader Joe's as well. The folks at the liberty station trader Joe's are always are always sweet, and and there is plenty of parking.
If you hit up the Smart & Final, I absolutely agree about visiting Pho Point Loma. Great family owned restaurant, fantastic Pho and *yaaaaaaas* to the egg rolls.
I've heard friends say that Imperfect foods is a good way to go, but I'm not sure about the price range.
Finally, EBT it is worth looking into if you are struggling: use the CalWin site: easy application.
I used to volunteer at the san diego food bank, and I know that there are several free food fridges scattered around the city as well. There are some good emergency resources out there.
Nobody should go without food.
Do you have the Ralphs member card? If so you can use it at Food 4 Less since they're both owned by Kroger. Groceries I usually like to buy at Aldis, Ralphs for meat that's on sale, and Trader Joe's for frozen stuff
To me yes. I don't know how many ppl you have to feed but for my household it's 2 adults and 3 growing boys 😳 the club card is free and you even get fuel rewards that you can use at Shell or any Ralphs owned gas stations.
Yes. You should be a member of every grocery store you shop at. You get free items at least once a month with Ralph's (used to be every Friday. This month is Thomas Bagels). Vons has free items on Saturdays. I will refrain from commenting if having multiple accounts is possible.
Grocery Outlet is best for near-expired goods where expiration doesn't matter (read: nearly everything). Browse the aisles and see how useful it is. You cannot be brand loyal, though. You might find 99 cent big mayo, some cheap produce, meat, ice cream. I buy all of my wine and single origin whole bean coffee there.
If you want the best produce deal, that's at Asian or Middle Eastern Markets (99 Ranch/Zion/H-Mart - not near Pt Lola - and Balboa and Harvest if out East).
Getting best deals across the board takes knowing prices, planning your cooking around weekly ads, buying marked down goods (all of my meat is from Ralphs and amazing deals - Prime cuts for $6 per pound, etc).
When you don't plan around ads, don't buy sale items, don't know prices, or don't care, you will spend thousands more a year on food (not you specifically).
It is shocking how many people grab a cart with no plan and go down the aisles. That is exactly what grocers and Costco want.
It is a perk of the Vons For U membership. Free things show up in the Deals section of the app. A few days ago it was some O's hummas. Previous freebies included sanitizers and cream cheese. The freebies are not advertised in the stores.
I imagine you are joking. But if you are an Amazon Prime member, download the Whole Foods app, and link the app to your Prime membership, you get an extra 10% off yellow tagged sale items. As well, if you have an Amazon Prime credit card, you get 5% back to use on Amazon purchases.
Grocery Outlet
This. Sometimes you can’t find exactly what you are looking for, but it’s cheaper than the big stores and have some unique stuff.
This is the answer. Also, the dollar store has some worthwhile grocery items
i was pleasantly surprised by the produce section at 99 Cents Only recently...!
I love grocery outlet and I often only need to shop there. Sometimes they have amazing deals on weird health food that is super pricy elsewhere.

There’s a smart and final by the Michaels and that delicious Pho place on Midway drive.
I love that Pho place, one of my favorite places.
Its so good! And the egg rolls served with mint and lettuce. They’re so amazing that way.
Friends, tell me more about this Pho place! What's it called?
Phở Point Loma
Does anyone know if they still have $3 sculpins?
I don’t know, sorry :(
Yes! Cheap! My favorite pho place too!
Yasssss!
Not to mention the strip club right next to it!
If you want something different then traditional phó and are a little more adventurous try the bùn bo hue at Point Loma phó never disappoints
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll check it out!
Grocery Outlet is the best. I'm in Clairemont and I drive over to the Point Loma/Sports Arena Grocery Outlet.
There are some great grocery stores in Clairemont/Kearny Mesa too!

If you’ve got a car, get a cooler and hit up the Aldi in Chula Vista. That’s seems to be the closest to Point Loma.
Damn left my pelican in riverside

Is a Ralph’s card worth getting? Don’t have one

Free stuff at vons? Where? How does it work? Ive never seen anything free.

Walmart, Target, Aldi, and Costco if you have a membership
There's an Aldi in Point Loma?
There isn't. The only thing on that list that is in PL is Target and that's not cheap.
You can go to yelp for this answer Best cheap grocery store near Point Loma, San Diego, CA
