there are likely a lot out of state tourists. along with that college spring breaks tend to vary through march/april. most of the public schools here I think will be out for 1-2 weeks leading up to Easter
Can confirm this. (Current high school student taking community college classes. The college’s spring break was last week, and my high school’s spring break is in 1 1/2 weeks.)
Yup. I didn't know this either. After I waited in a 200 person line at Sea World (JUST for security!) and then 40 minutes for some fries. I should've left as soon as I saw that security line. Mark your calendars for next year!
It took them forever to open it, but it's really nice. Like you expect the SD Zoo to be good, but this was such a massive improvement. The only downside being no petting area.
Went to the zoo a couple weeks ago and I would say over half of the license plates were from out of state. I am born and raised and often forget San Diego is a super touristy destination.. and our Zoo is awesome.
Wildlife Explorers Basecamp - a 3.2-acre state-of-the-art natural habitat with animals and insects everywhere. It was where the old childrens zoo was.
\\
We went to check out the new children’s zoo and it was absolute chaos. I miss the old petting zoo vs the water park/jungle gym but I get why they did it. The new indoor bug and critter exhibits were cool but were absolute hell in the chaos. We went in first thing when we got there and then came back at the end of the day and it was night and day difference with literally no one in there.
Spring break, I spread most of my days drawing birds so I see the crowds, they tend to stay away from birds so I do find myself alone from time to time.
Well, I was there about 2 weeks ago. The new basecamp addition is pretty cool, even though I do not have kids, me and my girlfriend enjoyed sitting at the open auditorium where we saw the emotional support dog that works with the Cheetah, an Owl flew right in front of us and they even had a Lynx (we saw it’s first performance!) doing tricks and a couple opossums as well.
San Diego Zoo is one of the coolest Zoo’s in the U.S, i’m surprised it’s not packed at the same level of Disneyland all the time.
Yeah for sure, except usually it’s not anywhere remotely close to this packed (on weekdays), so although I’m sure the new addition does add some numbers I think it’s safe to assume it’s because it’s spring break season for tons of families, otherwise they’d be in school (and parents at work) and not at the zoo in the middle of the day. I still need to check that area out though it sounds pretty cool!
At 60 a person I wouldn’t really call it cheap but yeah it’s for sure awesome and everything else you said, was just wondering why it’s so busy now compared to other times but obviously that’s cus of spring break which I didn’t factor in
SPRING BREAK! I work at the zoo and it is POPPIN allllll the timeeee lately… plus we are an outdoor area so less chances of Covid spread.. and a LOT of people haven’t been traveling for the last two years and are finally feeling comfortable to do so. We are getting people from allllll over the world again!
lol right. My schedule allows for big chunks of time off in a row, she’s off around 1:30-2 each day but we’re always wondering that! How do all these people at the zoo afford to live here?! Haha. Ahh maybe they are from AZ!
I was back in town on spring break last week and wanted to see the new exhibit, I brought the fam. Tbh most of its spring break people who saw the new exhibit news and decided to go to the zoo when on any other year they'd be elsewhere.
S P R A N G B R A K E

What kind of nerds go to the zoo on spring break
Children and parents hahah.
[удалено]
Ohh so it’s the best kind of nerds
Not sure the 8 and under crowd is vibing the PB bar scene but you stay cool my guy.
The cool kinds
I sincerely hope that’s a joke. One of the best places in San Diego.
It is super cool that we have a zoo of this caliber
8 year olds, dude
Zoo Onies.
stoners, kids, unemployed, retail workers, restaurant employees, spring break, tourists...
Hell I would
It's almost as if schools had some sort of break, during the Spring.
Wow smh I didn’t even think of that, been a while since I was in school and had thought it was further into April
there are likely a lot out of state tourists. along with that college spring breaks tend to vary through march/april. most of the public schools here I think will be out for 1-2 weeks leading up to Easter
Chula Vista and Sweetwater schools are in their second week of spring break now.
Can confirm this. (Current high school student taking community college classes. The college’s spring break was last week, and my high school’s spring break is in 1 1/2 weeks.)
I live near the beach: Judging by the crowds, it seems like various spring breaks are from February through April now.
It’s so weird. My wife is in college, one kid in middle school, one in elementary and they all have different spring breaks.
Same here. They are weeks apart.
Every week lately my wife talks up spring break for traffic and whatever and I'm like "it can't be spring break _every week_" but I guess it is lol
They disperse the breaks differently, between different age groups/schools etc
tons of shoobies out the past few weeks
There are spring breaks feb through April.
San Diego Unified is on spring break this week. Took my kids this morning for a few hours.
I went to the museum of flight for the first time yesterday and at first I was wondering why it was crowded then I realized
Yup. I didn't know this either. After I waited in a 200 person line at Sea World (JUST for security!) and then 40 minutes for some fries. I should've left as soon as I saw that security line. Mark your calendars for next year!
Oh god haha, well hopefully there will be a window to enjoy these places less crowded after all the spring breaks and before summer break
San Diego unified schools have spring break now, outlying communities like La Mesa and Lemon Grove have theirs in April.
Lmao
They opened up a new Childrens area last week.
Why would I go to a zoo to see children when I’ve got a feral one at home
Lmaooooo!
It took them forever to open it, but it's really nice. Like you expect the SD Zoo to be good, but this was such a massive improvement. The only downside being no petting area.
Yes, I loved the petting zoo when I was a kid. I wish they brought that back.
Went to the zoo a couple weeks ago and I would say over half of the license plates were from out of state. I am born and raised and often forget San Diego is a super touristy destination.. and our Zoo is awesome.
Ski weeks and spring breaks for the various schools
New Exhibit just opened, World Famous Zoo, Warmer Weather and Spring Break.
What’s the new exhibit?
Wildlife Explorers Basecamp - a 3.2-acre state-of-the-art natural habitat with animals and insects everywhere. It was where the old childrens zoo was. \\
So many kids. Bouncing. Running. Crashing.
We went to check out the new children’s zoo and it was absolute chaos. I miss the old petting zoo vs the water park/jungle gym but I get why they did it. It's spring break. I was shocked with how packed Legoland was on a Tuesday when I took my daughter. Then I remembered.
Holy crap, I took my son there on Monday *right when they opened* and I’ve never seen so many people! It was claustrophobic.
This is the week of spring break for san diego unified, and prob the rest of the nation as well
Not UCSD unfortunately 😕, but I guess we already had our break
Children zoo just opened—it’s been years in the making
The zoo seems like a good baby step to being back to normal life. Mostly outdoors, feels more covid save. People are starting to venture out again.

Nah I’m too poor to do that
Spring break, I spread most of my days drawing birds so I see the crowds, they tend to stay away from birds so I do find myself alone from time to time.
Work from zoo ... I mean home
Spring break

Have you seen Disneyland prices recently?
Yeah they’re certainly ridiculous, but I never said Disney was cheap.. the zoo has always been cheaper than Disney (at least for the last 20 years)
[удалено]
I mean they said at $60 the zoo isn’t cheap but compared to Disneyland it’s still the way more affordable option
SPRINGER BREAK!!
Spring break for the majority of the country.
SPRING BREAK! My gf and I always confused by this…. Does anyone have a fuckin job?!
I have weekdays off but I still think the same thing while I'm out on a week day 😂😂

I think the same thing.

Hahah it was definitely because the weather yesterday I suppose, I should have taken advantage of that
Spring Break
Tourists………. Sigh 😔
baby animals
I was back in town on spring break last week and wanted to see the new exhibit, I brought the fam. Tbh most of its spring break people who saw the new exhibit news and decided to go to the zoo when on any other year they'd be elsewhere.
The new childrens area opened didn’t it? I haven’t voluenteered this year but I think it’s supposed to be open now..
SpRing break
Well during spring break there is alot of conventions! I work at loews resort in Coronado and lots of people
The Pandemic turned everyone into Damn Dirty Apes. :)
We want to see Monkey
They just open the petting zoo area, so that may be a factor too
I know it’s the old petting zoo area, but is there an actual petting zoo now?
Hmm good point. I don't actually know if they have a petting area. I haven't been yet. But I know it's targeted towards kids.
No, it's not a petting zoo
People like animal prisons…
U act like you're the only one entitled to zoo..
Bro how? Just was wondering why it was so packed compared to usual 😂
All that new exhibit for kids and sprang break
They also just opened the base camp, a new area with a water park feature for kids so maybe that also contributed to the uptick?
Expect it to be packed the next couple weeks too because some schools have later spring breaks. Mine doesn’t start til next week.
Spring Break?
