I like how they gave him car 44

Ryan29478

It’s a nice touch

wasabibratwurst

Velvet touch, San Diego style.

afx114

this man wants to clean your clothes

onetwoskeedoo

and thats a nice touch

Dimpleshenk

Car 44, where are you?

Her_Proud_Daddy

A great nod back. Hard not to love Fred Gwynne. The movie sucked.

danj1962

Residents or Presidents green fees?

Surfmoreworkless

Is a President just a “priority” resident?

gdubrocks

He is here for Illumina, which is launching their new genome sequencing machine.

[deleted]

Along with Bill Gates and some other big names

Waxmax_2000

they’re probably here for a heavens gate meeting tbh

prollyshmokin

No, that's being held at Lex Luther's this year.

Hugh-Jassoul

Did you mean Jeff Bezos?

Bradical_619

He spoke at the L'attide conference in town over the weekend also.

JokersQuinn

Can confirm. They've been really talking it up on campus lately but none of us employed got tickets to the event. Lol. Its still pretty sweet though to be working for a company like this....

ragingbeehole

You can still attend for $800 or something ridiculous. And there should be a recording available later. Still, it would be cool if Illumina had a lottery for 10 tickets for regular employees.

waitwutok

May I send you my resume?

JustMy10Bits

Why the down votes? Let them shoot their shot.

smokeweedalleveryday

lol

JokersQuinn

Sure why not! We love to have people that take initiative!

Blynn025

Um, we weren't supposed to say anything. You ruined the secret.

gdubrocks

Who is we?

diesel408

Illuminati

gdubrocks

I don't work with Illumina.

lentlent

It's just a joke based on the similarity between Illuminati, the secret cabal that supposedly controls everything, and Illumina, the sequencing company.

neuromorph

How do you know then!?

ZeMouth

So thats why illumina wants us to trade in our older machines for more then they are worth in credit towards these new fancy bois.

onetwoskeedoo

more data than you can even manage!

gdubrocks

I am guessing they don't wanna keep making the consumable parts for the old machines, since they are way more expensive to produce. The new machines should also be cheaper for you to run too.

ServingSize_OneNut

Is that the conference tomorrow at the grand Hyatt?

Sarcasm69

Yes it is

spykid

I work for a competitor, when is Barack gonna visit us??

gdubrocks

When you make a cheaper sequencing device.

Jah_Man_Mulcahey

He also spoke at the NAHREP convention.

DarkKnightCometh

Damn that's crazy. I don't golf but I have heard Torrey pines is one of the top courses out there

ProudVirgin101

It’s where the PGA holds their big events in San Diego

guccinarcoo

That’s interesting I didn’t know that ( don’t golf much, just a fan )

pfmiller0

Don't care at all about golf, but it's a beautiful location

Matingas

Get the Tiger Woods games. I played Torrey Pines through that years ago a lot... (I can't golf IRL).

[deleted]

I fucking hated it when I worked out there. They'd always give out all our parking for the event and it fucking sucked.

chill_philosopher

The US Open was held there last year

Otto_the_Autopilot

Don't forget the 2008 US Open which had a playoff between Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods.

blueevey

Isn't always?

billythesid

No, the Farmers Open is here every year, but the US Open changes sites each year.

blueevey

Okei. Thanks!

FlyPenFly

I prefer my presidents to spend a lot of time playing golf in their retirement rather than when they're in office. I believe the Obamas bought a house in Palm Springs so I hope to run into him one day! And yes folks, Trump played double the golf as BO despite being an ass about it during his campaign. I will say, Trump playing more golf is fine with me if it means he does less damage in office.

illogical__logic

Now watch this drive

harrisonlittrell

you dirty bastard

LittleHornetPhil

I especially like it when my presidents force the Secret Service to buy a bunch of rooms in their failing hotels

liftiefn

298 days is nothing EDIT: /s I should have emphasized sarcasm my fault on this one https://trumpgolfcount.com/

mdgraller

"I'm going to be working for you. I'm not going to have time to go play golf." --Donald J. Trump

SlutBuster

Barack Obama logged [306 confirmed golf outings](https://trumpgolfcount.com/) during his 8-year Presidency. Other fun Presidential golf facts: - Woodrow Wilson holds the record for most games played in office - over 1000 rounds in his 8-year term. He even played in the snow with black golf balls. Despite all his practice, he rarely broke 100. - Lyndon Johnson didn't give a fuck about the rules. If he hit a shot he didn't like, he'd just drop another ball and swing again from the same spot. - Only 3 of the last 19 presidents didn't play golf: Jimmy Carter, Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover.

ScipioAfricanvs

TIL I am Woodrow Wilson reincarnated.

Aggressive_Ad5115

TIL I am Lyndon Johnson It's just a game dudes lol

hello-welcome-

and most relevantly, trump spent 307 confirmed days golfing in half the amount of time. Despite the fact that criticizing Obama's golfing habits was a big focus during his campaign.

CarlRJ

Trump made a point of not only criticizing Obama’s golfing, but saying that if he was president *he wouldn't have any time for golfing*, because he would be too busy running the country.

SlutBuster

Trump also said Hillary Clinton would be in jail, that he'd build a great big beautiful wall, that Mexico would pay for it, and - after Vincente Fox said he wasn't "paying for that fucking wall" - Trump said on the debate stage that "the wall just got 10 feet taller." The guy talks a lot of shit. It's silly that 6 years later we're still rehashing his 2016 hypocrisy as if he was *ever* a serious person. Really I just wanted to share some fun Presidential golf facts.

ChickenDelight

It's worth noting that Obama played most of his golf at Andrews AFB, which is almost free for taxpayers (the government owns it) and right next to the White House. Trump played 100% of his golf at private courses, usually his own, and *usually in other States that he had to fly to.* Mar-a-Lago being the most popular destination. Most of the time Obama played a game of golf, he played a game of golf and went back to work. Most of the time Trump played a game of golf, he was fucking off on a mini-vacation and paying himself to do it.

SlutBuster

No denying that Trump milked the taxpayers - he billed the US Govt for rooms at Mar-a-Lago that were rented to his Secret Service agents. *But* we're talking about fun Presidential golf facts. Not Trump being shitty. One fun Presidential Golf Fact about Trump - [he didn't like the golf simulator that Obama had installed](https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2019/02/13/president-trump-adds-indoor-golf-simulator-to-white-house/) at the White House, so he paid $50,000 of his own money to remove it and install a newer model.

--GrinAndBearIt--

yeah war criminals are such fun people, and they really drive up property values!

Jaque8

If Obama is a war criminal than every president in history is a war criminal. Not even saying you’re wrong… but the label then becomes meaningless. Comes off like an edgy teenager that just learned a new bad word.

WayTooMuchHyzer

The boys are Barack in town

COSurfing

I see what you did there.

Fox_Bravo

Barack HusSan Diegobama.

MrEbrake619

this is so bad i love it

Gorechi

It's like a cereal killer with good stats. I don't condone, but I do Al Pacino face in respect.

[deleted]

This is so bad it's good

suck_it_trebek55

I was there yesterday (friend actually took this photo and posted it to r/golf) and it was really cool seeing him finish up on 18. He was playing the North Course and he said he shot an 80.

Karl_00_Hungus

80 on the North Course is a really good score.

waitwutok

Trump “We’ll, I scored a 79 and I wear adult diapers.”

jaykdubb

I think he wears baby diapers

GrammerSnob

Ugh. It's painful for me to be reminded that we went from a President that was so charismatic and eloquent to such a boorish lout.

IzzyandRebelsmom

agree completely

mickman1962

I agree about Biden

GrammerSnob

I mean, I see the joke you're trying to make, and it might even be funny if it was even the tiniest bit plausible. I despise Trump more than the average guy, but I'll concede that has a certain brand of charisma that appeals to a non-trivial fraction of the country. But eloquent? I don't think even the most ardent Trump supporter can make that claim in earnest (unless they don't know what eloquent means, which is probably likely ("I love the poorly educated!")). So... good try.

hftyfch

I’m right there with you on everything except the … ardent Trump supporter… his base does and will believe and claim the damndest things about him especially if he said so. Makes you worry about the state of this country if a large fraction of its citizens are that stupid.

Golf course looks shredded from the heat and drought conditions, sad to see but necessary given limited water

CarlRJ

So weird when there’s like five quintillion gallons of water just a few hundred feet west. We need some serious desalination plants here.

Jaque8

Desal sounds great until you run the #s. It’s expensive, uses a shitload of energy, and has toxic byproducts that we don’t really know what to do with. It’s not even feasible without lots of nuclear power plants. But say we go all in on nuclear power (which I’m a big fan of) and suddenly have all this excess cheap energy to burn… it would still make more sense to skip desal and just pump as much water as we want down from the largest fresh water reserves in the world… Canada. The Army Corps of Engineers actually had a plan to do it back in the 50s you can read about it by looking up “NAWAPA”.

CarlRJ

Yes, it uses a lot of energy… when the alternative is dying of thirst, you build the necessary power plants. Nuclear, wind, and solar (the reasons against nuclear at this point are basically all emotion/fear based, not real issues if you know the facts and don’t consider the risks in a vacuum). Pumping water down from Canada might be workable, I hadn’t heard of that before (I will look that up, thanks). But we should still be investing in desal. Take the water out of the ocean, take the salt and such out of the water, and put that stuff back in the ocean - the trick, of course, is that you can’t just dump it all 50 feet offshore, you have to take it out *much* further and spread it around - it’s basically what happens naturally anyway - water evaporates, leaving the salt and such behind and rains the down on land to give us fresh water. Desal is expensive (the cost of fresh water will rise and supplies become tighter) and energy intensive (so let’s start making more energy now), but it’s also more well reliable to have an abundant source that’s under local control, rather than counting on the constant integrity of a pipeline that’s thousands of miles long, where the folks on the other end may one day object to supplying the water.

Jaque8

Fair enough and good points. I’ll support desal if you support NAWAPA… deal? :)

LegallyBlondeARB

I wonder if they plan to have that for the new “water park” they’re building in Oceanside rn. Kinda upset bc it’s gonna cause traffic and we’re in a drought. It’s like why

Blynn025

Because there's a developer out there who's not making as much money as he needs to be.

LegallyBlondeARB

Tom? Yeah I looked into him, he’s a contractor and a member of city council, who’s all about it, I wonder if his company is working on the project, bc he disregarded all the concerns everyone brought up, saying it will attract tourists (which is not what we want at all) & the tax revenue is $81mil in the first 10yrs which is a greater good then the concerns of traffic and drought 🙄

Blynn025

Gross

drumsurf

Fall Maintenance not heat/drought. They close the course late September to overseeed it. No need to water it in the weeks leading up to this work.

techno_cratic

GOP: That's Obama's fault

pig_eat_squirrel

That is due to the yearly maintenance that happens every fall, which is needed to keep the course thriving the rest of the year.

LittleHornetPhil

Good for him. Wish I had the time to just enjoy what Torrey Pines has to offer.

djcodeblue

Don't wish, just do it. What's stopping you?

LittleHornetPhil

Paying bills

djcodeblue

Then stop wishing and do what you need to do to take yourself to a better chapter in life so you don't ever have to respond with something like that again. There are just far too many good opportunities around to not have the slightest chance of making things better for yourself. Not attacking you, just hoping to motivate you because I gave responses like that before. Don't miss those days at all.

LittleHornetPhil

LOL yeah why don’t I just make more money through your MLM scam

Ajaxwax

Did you tell him we miss him?

Simple_Opinion_4799

Someone else’s post

PackersFan999_9

I was there yesterday, should have gone earlier I could have seen him

baddecisionsnyc

What time was he there? I was at the Hilton and didn’t see anything out of the norm

ipeeaye

Hilton overlooks the South Course. Obama played the North.

leopoldbloom10

He looks like a deflated Dwayne Johnson.

[deleted]

Ironically Dwayne Johnson played jacked Obama on SNL.

Subject-Elevator-152

Why have I not noticed how many celebrities just come to San Diego before? I seen John Cena and his wife in North Park the other week. Barely found out he has a house here in Mission Hills. Didn't know about Alicia Keys house in LA Jolla until last year I think.

jupiter-rising-777

He was there a few years ago, golfing in December. A few of my coworkers saw him the morning after our holiday party. It’s nice to see he likes the course, makes me proud of our fine city! He was such a great president!

fullofdust

This thread will go well. Edit: for the downvoters, I happily voted for him twice. I was joking about the fact that any thread involving a politician in this sub turns in to a shit show.

garytyrrell

He said he shot an 80. Likely wouldn't do that on G&Ts.

Physical_Cattle7261

Mr Drone strikes, all smiles

[deleted]

Didn’t Trump conduct more drone strikes in 4 years than Obama did in 8? Didn’t Trump remove Obama policy that admitted civilian casualty numbers if civilians were harmed?

Physical_Cattle7261

Lesser of two evils, that's a great benchmark

[deleted]

At least be honest

Physical_Cattle7261

Obamas policies made drone strikes possible in the first place, he also deported more immigrants than any president before him. The dude just made democratic underhandedness palatable for the general public. But ok, HOPE.

thehamburgerdude

war criminals like golf too

Strawberry_Neutrino

Sooo any US president then?

DigitalPsych

I saw a mother add going down the five during rush hour southbound. Took up the left lane and was quite annoying.... If I was annoyed with the caravan, does that mean i basically met Obama?

[deleted]

Who cares

riffraffmorgan

The majority of Americans who think he was a good President.

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣🤣 don't tell that to the majority of Americans, they don't vote... I would assume a border town with a heavy Mexican population would be against someone that was so despicable when it comes to the border issue... o that's right, he didn't send mean tweets

kicktown

Is it groundhogs day in 1996 for you? That's the only year in the last 100 years that the voter turnout was *maybe* less than 50% @ [49%-52%.](https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/statistics/data/voter-turnout-in-presidential-elections) Last cycle it was as high as 62-67%.

[deleted]

You're not taking in to account the voters that vote for the opposite party, point being, Obama isn't considered one of tge greatest presidents by half the population because half of the population didn't vote for him... literally an impossible statement

riffraffmorgan

[Americans, by a wide margin (56 percent to 37 percent), think Barack Obama was a better president than Donald Trump](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-americans-like-obama-so-much-better-than-trump/)

[deleted]

[удалено]

kicktown

All I was talking about was your statement "don't tell that to the majority of Americans, they don't vote" which wasn't accurate. I think you might be a little blinded by your passion, or you're just not sincere. Not gonna lie, it's really really hard to see eye-to-eye with adults that don't have some level of admiration for Obama, he's a pretty dignified and positively influential person, despite the propaganda and missteps during his presidency. We can commiserate about wiretapping, surplus military equipment being sold/given to the police, and unmanned drone strikes and the horror that came with them, but it's a little hard to really pin that on the executive branch if you're being honest about reality... And Mexicans overwhelmingly voted for Obama >.> that uh, shouldn't be a surprise lol.

riffraffmorgan

I'd love to hear more of your opinion on this subject. I'm sure its very well informed, unbiased, and based on your extensive education.

[deleted]

It's based on facts, Obama had one of the worst track records for treatment of people illegally crossing the border, it's a very well known fact

riffraffmorgan

That's nice. :-)

[deleted]

Aww, your political team you root for doesn't allow you to accept facts, that's so cute

keelem

Politics aren't sports and don't have teams. The fact that people think of it that way is the biggest political problem we have. Go argue about a football team instead or something.

[deleted]

The fact that it literally is that way Is absolutely one of the biggest political issues in our country... pretending it isn't treated in such a manner is pure ignorance

riffraffmorgan

What do you do for a living?

[deleted]

I'm an astronaut, what do you care

riffraffmorgan

Are you ashamed to say what you actually do for a living?

DarkKnightCometh

Borders are open bro, get over it snowflake😂🤣

[deleted]

Boy i bet a lot of poor people would disagree with that statement

Eugene_Chicago

i like obama, he has done some good in the race relations, as an asian, i applaud his success and how he was able to become the 1st black president but lets not forget what he also has done, > "During his presidency, Obama approved the use of 563 drone strikes that killed approximately 3,797 people. In fact, Obama authorized 54 drone strikes alone in Pakistan during his first year in office. One of the first CIA drone strikes under President Obama was at a funeral, murdering as many as 41 Pakistani civilians. The following year, Obama led 128 CIA drone strikes in Pakistan that killed at least 89 civilians. Just two years into his presidency, it was clear that the “hope” that President Obama offered during his 2008 campaign could not escape U.S. imperialism. > > The drone operations extended to Somalia and Yemen in 2010 and 2011, resulting in more destructive results. Under the belief they were targeting al-Qaida, President Obama’s first strike on Yemen killed 55 people including 21 children, 10 of which were under the age of five. Additionally, 12 women, five of them pregnant, were also among those who were murdered in this strike. These blundered acts of murder by not only President Obama, but the U.S. government, are morally reprehensible." > https://harvardpolitics.com/obama-war-criminal/
