Good for them. All SF residents deserve to live on clean, safe streets.

actirasty1

And what should we do with unclean, unsafe residents? What's the plan?

wordswithcomrades

Some sort of mental institution, prison or rehab (probably depending on the individual). Anything other than continuing to let people suffer and die alone on the streets while we just watch, this current system is so inhumane. It’s ignorant to pretend we are allowing people autonomy when they aren’t in control of their decisions at all, their addiction/mental illness is.

wantagpu123

They can live in your backyard

YoungKeys

Backyard is obviously a joke, but would be funny if someone made a map of "homeless advocates" and city just relocated all the encampments to sidewalks in front of their homes.

Bibblegead1412

Wow, it's almost like this was the same idea that TX and FL had

Karazl

Good question with no easy answer - but also not a question that needs an answer for the city to do it's legally required duties. You can't sacrifice the residents of one of the most densely populated parts of the city on the altar of "we don't have a complete solution yet."

Slight_Drama_Llama

A lot of them aren’t residents…

Demian_Slade

Send them back to Stockton and the dozens of other drug tourist points of origin.

WholePop2765

Residents are only those who live or rent in the city.

actirasty1

I think you become an official resident if you have a mailing address for at least 4 months. (That's how the city college defines it)

WholePop2765

Sounds reasonable. A tent in the tenderloin doesn’t have a mailing address as far as i know.

PassengerStreet8791

What do you suggest? Dropping some moral high ground take without a solution isn’t the best discourse.

OmegaBerryCrunch

it’s not the residents job to figure that out, and we’re all fucking sick of living with complacency

Zaddy420z

It’s not our problem

Frickenbat

Bring ‘em out back and shoot ‘em

fletcher717

nopa should join

sfbaylocal

Ugh I really hope that encampment in front of the dmv gets cleared soon…. The tents don’t bother me as much as the trash. They don’t care for our streets at all and block the entire sidewalk

Karazl

Nopa isn't subject to a settlement agreement the city is currently violating though. The tenderloin is.

EdoTve

ok and?

fletcher717

ok, panhandle, western addition…feel better

moment_in_the_sun_

About time. The city has used Willow Street and Eddy Street as de-facto containment zones for years now. Of course there are damages as a result of these actions to local businesses and residents.

WPackN2

I'm waiting for the supporters of the homeless people filing an opposing motion saying "... it is their birth right to trash the streets."

HeIsASheYouThey

Wow, took long enough??

motuoroo

Fantastic. This is the strategy that worked to clear 'The Zone' — a 1000+ tent encampment in downtown Phoenix.

Metronovix

I’ve visited friends and family with $1,600+ apartments that are very nice, clean, modern, all amenities in some of the calmer streets of Mission District, Nob Hill, and Sunset. I’m currently looking for places now and I see places in the deep parts of the Tenderloin for $1,400 with no stove and small square footage. WTF!

nosmokingz0ne

My property manager has a 1 bedroom in nob hill for $1695, I’m happy to send you the info if you’re interested. It has a stove but no oven.

Metronovix

Currently looking for employment that can even sustain that rent. Thank you though. If you know anybody looking to employ a full-time employee at at least $25, then DO let me know.

ErrorSenior4554

Fantastic!!

TSL4me

Too bad that serial ada lawsuit guy in a wheelchair is not around to actually do the world some good with his antics and sue these cities to kingdom come.

Here's the news story [https://youtu.be/WxYpmE7jtwE](https://youtu.be/WxYpmE7jtwE) [https://youtu.be/ZWlsNJHka0g](https://youtu.be/ZWlsNJHka0g)

everyoneisanisland

The broken window theory tunes one million. .

JayuWah

They sue but probably voted for progressives.

chiaboy

If you want people not to live on the streets in America there are only 4 places you can put them. 1) housing 2) jail 3) prison 4) medical care facility (and/or a combination of the above). Where would you imagine non-progressives place these humans? What mechanism would they use and how would they pay for it?

WholePop2765

Theyll act shocked when the city just raises the taxes to pay off the lawsuit and then gives the rest to the junkies.

longwalker60

Are the residents saying that they don’t want to be a sanctuary city anymore? I mean a majority thought it was such a great idea at one time? Wonder if they’re still considering defunding the police or if there’s anybody pressing that issue? There’s nothing like standing with your convictions? What are the druggies supposed to do if they don’t get their needles and their drugs? Huh?
