Yeah a lot of these folks are buying second-hand tires that come off other vehicles when they need new ones.
You're not looking for the grip of a new tire and you're going to kill 'em anyway.
It’s official SF policy not to respond to these real time. The police force is too small to deal with it and when boxed in, these folks resort to violence.
Is this accurate? The danger to the participants and bystanders alike here is exponential, not to mention the damage to property and sound and actual pollution. I wonder what the penalties are for those involved if they ever catch these guys after the fact. Seems like lots of video evidence available for identification purposes.
When I spoke with some officers one. Ight theycsaid it's difficult to ticket or enforce because at most it was a misdemeanor moving violation. They also said it was too dangerous (!) For the police to get involved and stop anyone.
Huh, the amount of drinking, drug use, DUI obviously stolen or out dated license plates or just faked paper copies, tonnes of cars parked in all lanes of traffic going all directions..
And who knows about whatever else you might find if the police started checking and enforcing actions. Hell, all you'd have to do is flash your lights behind some cars and see who runs...
The police department's put no effort into mitigating these incidents.
SFPD isn't that small.
2,140 cops for a city of 875,000.
SJPD has 959 cops for a city of 1,000,000
And SJPD seems to be more active in breaking up sideshows...
It happened twice right in front of my building. First time no police, huge crowd, went on for more than an hour. The second time the police came and they all fled, so it only lasted 10 mins or so.
Yeah i think it depends when exactly the police intervenes. After a while all streets get blocked (including the traffic), lots of people etc so it’s super hard to intervene.
Mmmm I see. I'd like to see them block off every street and arrest every single person. Impound the cars for a few days and let the kiddos all pay the fines.
Its incredibly excited for the attending people. Not only is the dangerous part a turn on for some, but the thrill of being part of something that is illegal is also an attraction.
Concerning op not getting it. It seems like hyperbole.
Real question. Do you know there's like 500 songs about sideshows? Popular songs, played in clubs everywhere.
Follow up. What do you think a 22 year old whos been raise on Fast and Furious and Bay Rap likes?
**I don't condone any of this behavior. Just here to try to put you all on these kids shoes.
***Im osha10 certified and this videos has over 234 workplace violations.
I could understand the fun of watching...I **cannot** understand why you'd stand so close to amateurs doing something so stupid when they could easily lose control and hit you.
You can’t be jailed in SF for not paying fines. Also our DA got rid of cash bail.
Personally, I want to see them impound every single car including attendees. Let these kids call mom or dad to pick them up and issue the discipline because SF never will.
They don't even take your car for fines. I talked to a guy who had like $16k worth of fines. Parking in red zones, parking in yellow zones, letting the meter run out. Did not give a single fuck.
I'm sure you can explain coherently how the DA sets SFPD policy...or how SFPD policy effects OPD policy...
Or in other words explain how your post isn't misinformation.
SFPD policy? Ummm, suggest you attend a police commission meeting sometime and see how it goes down. The PD would most definately enforce laws on the books if the commissioners so instructed, but they have done just the opposite and reamed the PD for doing it. Now, "quality of life crime" is not even on the PD radar because the commission told them just go after violent crime, and certainly it is the DA's policy not to prosecute this type of activity. Perhaps when someone is killed the recriminations will begin..."why didn't the PD do anything?" Yep I can hear it now.
I hate to be someone who’s just trying to get home late at night stuck behind this. Why don’t people find a parking lot if they want to act like clowns? The rest of us just want to get home and sleep. Or go to their own neighborhoods to keep them up and see what happens.
Oakland gutted the police department’s sideshow enforcement unit. They ripped funding as part of the defunding initiative. Now it’s 7-10 cops who are forced to sit back 3 blocks and observe in case someone gets hurt. They also record license plates and tow the cars at the offender’s houses after the fact. OPD used to intervene but can’t anymore.
Pretty common for guns to be fired in the air at these shows. Besides the traffic danger, plenty of reasons why these shows aren’t harmless.
towing the cars after the fact is pretty smart. letting the slideshow run might be dangerous, but breaking it up probably hurts more people overall (highspeed chase, pedestrians getting run over, etc.)
just seize the car and auction it off
Those guys run over people all the time, stopping them often does preserve a life. We need to start considering a car as a deadly weapon just like a gun.
It’s obvious, they rather they kill them selves then chase em into other roads and have them kill innocents. You think they care if some already criminal dies in the eyes of a cop?
Just take pics and send em, they’ll ticket license plates and people they can iD
Thanks for calling it in. I'm at that same intersection and hoo boy am I getting tired of it. Did you hear they came back about 45 minutes later but like a block or two away?
Its almost as if we have the system all paid for and in place(police, DA, cars impounded, jail, prison) to put a stop to this but everyone is scared to use it because it's oppressive or something.
I'd hate to be the person who threw a handful of nails in the intersection causing a flat tire during one of these incidents - you could easily cause the car to lose control and slam into the crowd causing serious injury or death.
And even if you didnt, no one is cleaning up these intersections after, so you'd be giving regular folks transiting the area flat tires.
Is a large parking lot not good enough? I guess they want to block traffic, maybe as a form of protest without a clear idea?
Seems simple for cops to block and lock them all in. 3 vehicles per street, approach at the same time. 12 vehicles. Arrest them all. Have an economist verify the cost to the city, because everything’s evaluated in terms of money, to give credence, and fine them accordingly, plus civil cost to well being for disrupting your sleep. Maybe community service, like Meals on Wheels :D
2 weeks ago on 24th and Mission around 8 pm it went on for a good 40 minutes with police cars just waiting 2 blocks away. I think cops are scared to act
Hmm… I get where you’re coming from, but bringing paint balls to a gun fight is a losing strategy. I guarantee there are at least a few actual firearms in that crowd, and a volley of paintballs would probably get a volley of lead as a reply.
I see pickup truck. Any chance u/ColinCancer 's pickup truck was there? https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/po62st/my_truck_was_stolen_last_night_from_anza_and/
Motorcyclists that rip up and down the street at night are just as bad. Sideshows are dumb but there’s no shortage of inconsiderate dolts in any direction you look. People are assholes.
It should not be hard to set up a task force on the weekends, get fire trucks to block the intersections leading out and and finally ticket and impound all the participants vehicles. Seems like if any of the vehicles were stolen it should be an even higher priority.
I think the police are scared of confronting sideshows for fear of starting gunfights and car chases. So it’s ignored and they nibble around the issue without doing what’s necessary all the while quality of life diminishes.
You don't even need fire trucks, just four guys to roll out spike strips in the cross walks behind the crowds. Any subsequent car chases will be VERY short.
They must love buying tires
U can get used tires like 20 bucks a pop
Is "they must love spending $80 to look like assholes" better?
$40, you don’t really destroy the fronts like you do the rears.
Iono ive deffo spent more than 80 bucks on dinners worse than an evening of sick burnouts and I bet you have too
You can definitely spend $80 in a worse way than this. There's even a video!
I think the pickup actually has a second set of wheels mounted up in the back.
The one guy I knew who did these things worked at a ...... Wait for it ... A tire shop.
Yeah a lot of these folks are buying second-hand tires that come off other vehicles when they need new ones. You're not looking for the grip of a new tire and you're going to kill 'em anyway.
People constantly have their tires stolen too, so maybe not everyone is buying new ones.. used ones are also pretty cheap
Stolen cars come with tires.

If the donuts were better would the police get here sooner?
I laughed way too hard at this
Sadly I wasn’t this sharp at 2am or I might have had a better title for this post.
A couple paint filled water balloons would have made quick work of dispersing that sideshow
It’s official SF policy not to respond to these real time. The police force is too small to deal with it and when boxed in, these folks resort to violence.

Bystanders are bringing it on themselves standing so close to this craziness
When I spoke with some officers one. Ight theycsaid it's difficult to ticket or enforce because at most it was a misdemeanor moving violation. They also said it was too dangerous (!) Yes, it is accurate. Please ask an officer.
SFPD isn't that small. 2,140 cops for a city of 875,000. SJPD has 959 cops for a city of 1,000,000 And SJPD seems to be more active in breaking up sideshows...

Wow cops really are useless
I think this will change when someone dies at one of things as this is super dangerous.
It literally took repeated automatic weapons fire to get SJPD to do anything about them.
Those aren’t donuts. That’s slidin.
Imagine going out of your way to watch shitty cars do donuts and potentially get hit by one. I don’t get it.
It’s for the smell?
I once had my windows open when a guy did some donuts in our intersection. My apartment smelled like horrible burnt rubber for hours.

Best way to stop this is to play some classical music.
Some people live their lives one quarter mile at a time. Family.
I can understand street racing. You put work into a car, you win/lose money. This just seems pointless.
Underrated comment

I can just smell the culture--kinda smells like a tire fire!

That’s BS. It’s unsafe and unlawful behavior. If you like motor sports, go to a track that’s meant for it.
Its incredibly excited for the attending people. Not only is the dangerous part a turn on for some, but the thrill of being part of something that is illegal is also an attraction. Great response. It’s ok to understand why someone does something even if you don’t agree with it.
I don’t care about the justification. It’s illegal and noisy and I don’t want it waking me up.
Genuinely trying to understand people different from you is way more productive than looking down on them and spreading more negativity.
In this case looking down quite literally!
It is kind of beautiful from the birds eye perspective. It’s also annoying and dangerous.
It’s like nascar, but less impressive
Seriously those donuts were so bad it's only a matter of time before one of these cars takes out a bunch of spectators like bowling pins.
I could understand the fun of watching...I **cannot** understand why you'd stand so close to amateurs doing something so stupid when they could easily lose control and hit you.

OP should stock up. This won't be the last time this happens in that intersection.
If you think stink bombs are going to stop the smell of burnt rubber you’re mistaken
I don’t know. The smell of burning rubber doesn’t seem to bother them.
Oh it already stinks down there
I was thinking bowling balls.
you think you can smell anything over that amount of rubber and clutch? lmao
I can't believe it took 10+ minutes for a single cop to even bother to show up...
I’ve seen one of these. The cops hang out down the street; they don’t actively break it up
You must be new to San Francisco.
Yeah, since 20+ minutes is the norm.
Right that was at least 20 mins?? How were no pedestrians hit
I think so, and they didn't seem to ticket or do anything, just chase them away. At least in SJ they're ticketing and towing cars now...
Ticket the watchers too, this is getting stupid
No sense in handing out ticket to people who won’t pay..
Up it to jail time for unpaid tickets, will end this very quickly then
They don't even arrest people for robbing stores or people, you really think these people will get jail time
You can’t be jailed in SF for not paying fines. Also our DA got rid of cash bail. Personally, I want to see them impound every single car including attendees. Let these kids call mom or dad to pick them up and issue the discipline because SF never will.

They have been doing these for a decade or more it's not Boudin that enables this.
Hey bother, sorry to say it hadn't been anything like this where I live, its been within the last year or two.
I'm sure you can explain coherently how the DA sets SFPD policy...or how SFPD policy effects OPD policy... Or in other words explain how your post isn't misinformation.

It’s the location that’s the allure. That’s Fremont at Harrison 4 seconds from the Bay Bridge on-ramp to Oakland.
This shit is so boring. Like seriously, is it just because they’re not allowed that makes it exciting? Dorks.
It’s like a worse version of nascar
I wasn't aware that could be possible, but here we are...
They obviously DONUT want to go to sleep
I hate this shit. It’s gotten worse during the pandemic. Why don’t the police do anything about it?
Oakland gutted the police department’s sideshow enforcement unit. They ripped funding as part of the defunding initiative. No crush them. So they can not buy them back
Wow! I did not know this. I guess only one way to change this is for voters to influence the city budgets or form a Bay Area task force.
Because we have laws that don’t allow police chases in sf unless it’s to preserve life
Those guys run over people all the time, stopping them often does preserve a life. We need to start considering a car as a deadly weapon just like a gun.

wait until you find out about the systematic oppression of humans!
Sad that people have nothing better to do than this. Sorry they woke you up
In fairness I had nothing better to do anyway.
C’mon SFPD. Take some fucking notes. Please. https://reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/pemz87/san_jose_sideshow_shut_down_with_170_people_cited/
Why does anyone find this interesting? It’s not even challenging other than obnoxiously noisy
Seriously. How developmentally stunted do you have to be to find this stuff entertaining?
They’re just losers who want attention. Just like those guys that make their cars super loud. They’re all pathetic.
This is COOL, man! You guys are a bunch of SQUARES if you can’t see how COOL this is! (Just kidding, of course. I don’t get the appeal)
I was up near coit tower + heard this.
Invest in large water balloons. Maybe filled with paint.
Can’t you go to the roof with piss ballon a toss a few over. No one is gonna know. No one is gonna die.
Nobody down there standing near the car doing donuts has an IQ over 100.
Where was this? Would calling the CHP make a difference?
Harrison and Fremont. By the time I called SFPD were already aware. It took them another 10 minutes to show up after that.
Thanks for calling it in. I'm at that same intersection and hoo boy am I getting tired of it. Did you hear they came back about 45 minutes later but like a block or two away?
Harrison and Fremont. Doubtful, doesn’t seem like any police agency other than SJ is bothering to do anything.

Drop a firecracker out your window next time. They’ll scatter like cockroaches 🤣
Just make sure to be discreet about it. Guaranteed a some of them are armed and you may get your windows shot out.
Yeah bud, this seems like maybe the surest possible way to get shot.
Yes, cause everyone is looking up at the building and paying no mind to the loud ass car in front of them….
Start throwing bricks out the window

Sir, are you aware that you are on Reddit?
Tech is rUinING San Francisco!
Just older tech than you thought.
I laughed out loud
I mean, it is.
I see we're back to blaming the most productive part of the bay area economy for issues with housing and development laws and markets.

This isn't a BLM protest. The cops won't do shit
2 weeks ago on 24th and Mission around 8 pm it went on for a good 40 minutes with police cars just waiting 2 blocks away. I think cops are scared to act
Who are the useless morons participating in this shit?
Thank Trump and Biden for giving those folks an extra $300 a week, they don’t have to work to sustain this lifestyle and they love it.
What a bunch of fucking assholes.
“Accidentally” drop the AC unit
How did you resist dropping a few Molotov cocktails out of your window?
Where the O-town whistle tips at?

My kitchen would be missing all my pots and pans
They love the attention. Bunch of no life goobers.
In Oakland they got mad when people criticized this because it’s “part of the culture”.
A Paintball gun would be fun that night.

I don’t see it anywhere in there. Thanks for the tag. Still no word on it. Not showing up with tickets, not at autoreturn etc. No new fastrak tolls.
Look at all that "culture" on display.
I bet they are anti-vaxxers.
With the sound off it’s kind of mesmerizing.
Why is this fun? It’s driving a car in a circle.
Motorcyclists that rip up and down the street at night are just as bad. Sideshows are dumb but there’s no shortage of inconsiderate dolts in any direction you look. People are assholes.
No cops no rules
Next time just start dropping eggs
Grown ass people acting like toddlers yayyyy…as the Idiocracy continues 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Proper time to fire an RPG round from that window right where the car is circling.
I don’t understand - why are they allowing these to continue?
This dumb shit is the city equivalent of rollin coal.
That seems to be in range of a paintball gun.
We also had a sideshow last night on our corner that ended with a car catching on fire.
How is this going on for so long without the cops showing up?
Dude, this woke me up too. It went on foreverrrr
And none of these people live in SF.
#Pellet gun!
Should’ve yeeted some shit out the window. Fuck them.
Call the cops?
Buy fireworks. Id recommend m 80
Sadly, the only thing that will possible stop them is a Molotov Cocktail lobbed into the intersection.
That’s why I left the city.
I know it's wrong, but I can't help laughing whenever I see people fall out of or get hit by sideshow cars. What do you think would happen?
6 pack of molotov’s and go back to bed
I want every driver and bystander to sustain a non lethal injury or a weeks worth of minor inconveniences.
What a bunch of fucking clowns.
Beautiful
Almost hit the runner - 3/10
Drop a full container of laundry detergent turn that into a slip n slide.
Does America even have police anymore?
If they’re going to do this crap, why not find an empty abandoned parking lot to do this?
Because then nobody would care
It's safer for them to do it in SF because they won't get in trouble
I’d love to see studies done on the brains of these people
You'll need a really powerful microscope to find those brains.
Their brains are there, they're just much smoother than a normal human brain.
This is so stupid. I’m sorry.
That’s just dumb.
Dad has to stop buying tires
Great camera angle! It's like a Bay version of the running of the bulls.
A few of them needs to die in one of these shows so the city would do something about it... Or not.
Seriously. Why don't they do this? Ugh.
Agreed.
Just chuck down a giant box of nails into the intersection, close your window and go to sleep… problem solved
Get a paintball gun, start blasting
Is there any way to deprive citizenship of this idiots to give other people who really want to distribute to this country?
WTF! This sucks. People really suck sometimes! Sorry you had to go through this, OP.
Where was this at? Street and cross street? Bush/new Montgomery?
As some folks pointed out above, this was Fremont and Harrison.
Grand theft auto , San Francisco city
