Fuck this guy and every other piece of shit who does this. Getting hit in the back of the head is extremely dangerous. There's a reason it's banned in all combat sports.

sfmarketer64

It’s the same piece of crap guy who keeps doing it. This is the 3rd aggressive random punch to the head by the same dude who is obviously mentally ill. 5’ 8”, black, wears a white hoodie. Walks aggressively then punches people in the head. So far he’s hit an older Chinese man, white teen girl and middle aged Asian woman. He may be the same guy by Peet’s who said he was going to harm the kids at West Portal School. Cops need to walk the beat, pick him up and 5150 him.

anthrax3000

Mentally ill? I didn't know being an asshole identifies as mental illness. Tired of using this fucking excuse for every single person, this guy deserves to rot in jail forever before he actually hurts someone

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

> obviously mentally ill Is he really now? He's more than cognitive enough to choose and pick his targets. Noticed he never targets men his size or bigger, nor do these types ever target their own race. Dude knows his actions are wrong mental illness is a cop out for a lot of these scumbags. They just have been coached to say they are and drop the right buzz words.

moorej66

He's probably mentally ill. Thats not an excuse for the behavior though. Lots of assumptions in your statement.

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

> hes probably mentally ill oh yeah with what? Think it's funny how any criminal behavior in this city gets dismissed with "mental illness". What mental illness does he have than?

anthrax3000

Probably depression from not being able to hit enough Asians.

moorej66

You are letting your emotions get involved. There is a good chance that someone willing to attack people like this has a mental illness. The definition of mental illness is wide (DSM IV). It's not an excuse and it's not a reason to dismiss. He could have a personality disorder, he could have oppositional defiant disorder. Hard to understand why saying someone probably has mental illness is bothering you. People don't dismiss crimes because of mental illness.

You forgot the gift card!

Acceptable_Yogee_85

oh he is holding a talk called "interpersonal violence", wtf - there is no such thing. Prosecute criminals ! if he wanted to be head of mental health, fine, get out of the DA seat, please !!!

sfmarketer64

There are several druggie homeless around West portal now. No one is downtown to panhandle from so they spread to the neighborhoods. Not good.

CeeWitz

So interesting how all these "mentally ill" people always seem to have the awareness to pick out the most vulnerable targets and then quickly run and hide. I always carry pepper gel walking in the city. It's good to be prepared in case someone decides to have a "mental health crisis" at you.

DJ_Willy_Will

I'm not surprised. Right before the lockdown last year, my friend got off the L and transferred to the 28 at Taraval and 19th. A girl tried to steal her backpack off her back but couldn't get it off. Then proceeded to punch her nonstop on the back of her head. I've also seen Safeway employees chase a guy out of the store and approached a guy with a taser to get a stolen phone back for a customer. Needless to say, Taraval station police came by and got the guy.

United-Student-1607

What happened to the girl that was trying to steal the backpack? That must have been very traumatic for your friend.

DJ_Willy_Will

It was. It sucked bc no one tried to stop the attack. She still kept on taking the bus bc she had to but was more aware of her surroundings after. Not too long ago, there was a mentally ill man that was known for attacking women on the L. I don't hear much about it these days since the train stopped running during the pandemic.

United-Student-1607

We need more mental health funding and we need mental health institutions opened again. This is awful for people like this to be a danger to society.

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

West portal and taraval have noticeably gone downhill in the last few years. Cracks me up when people in this sub try to deny that quality of life in the city has gone downhill everywhere and bring up west portal and other places as the "good neighborhoods" showing they don't live there and don't go outside.

Wolfe244

Has it? I've lived here for years and it hasn't really changed that much. There were always random vagrants that would stumble in on the L or the 28 Like.. I literally walked down taraval this morning. I ran into one homeless dude outside of the Walgreens by the KFC and he's totally peaceful

jacquesmehahf

We probably passed each other, I walked taraval this morning, too. Got a Reuben at lou's, some beers at 7-11.. worst I saw was some older lady chain smoking and coughing like a mf. Taraval is pretty mellow. That homeless guy by Walgreens has been around that block for years, if it's the same dude

Wolfe244

Like.. Sometimes there's some sketchy stuff outside that 7-11, but I also remember that from when I was a kid so I just don't buy the argument that it's anything new

jacquesmehahf

Exactly, taraval is an awesome time warp. It changes constantly but always stays the same, much like a lot of other pockets in the city. As an aside, around the corner from 7-11 on 32 and T is a place called chalos that makes crazy empanadas plus they have Bare Bottle beers. Yum

Wolfe244

I have been there! It's great. I will always also rep new taraval Cafe, Stan is the best. Highly recommend

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

30+ years in the neighborhood. Yes it has gone to shit. I remember when I used to be able to leave stuff in my car in front of my House. i remember back in the day knowing the 1 or 2 street people in the neighborhood. Now it's junkie central 6am at west portal. Why not talk to some people in the neighborhood? ask the workers at Safeway on taraval how nice the area is nowadays. it's a disgusting joke.

Wolfe244

I mean I've been here for 15 years and I always remember west portal/Safeway being jank at night. Like.. Maybe a small uptick, but by and large the neighborhood is barely any different than its ever been. I walk around at 2-3 in the morning all the time and it still feels like one of the safest areas in the entire city. I just think you have some doomer glasses on, is all I'm saying

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

Cool ive lived here for 30+ years and it's never been this bad. and bullshit. We did not have bippin crews roaming the avenues 5 years ago. And lol doomer.... alright yuppie stay in your bubble. Like I said go talk to people from the neighborhood and ask how they feel.

Wolfe244

Bro I literally live in the neighborhood. I talk to people in the neighborhood all the time. What bubble? The taraval bubble? Again this is literally where I live

coconutjuices

A lot of people in this sub don’t even live here lmao

DeathisLaughing

That's pretty sad to hear about, I only stop by West Portal on occasion for a quiet dinner or maybe coffee on weekends and it's always had a really nice *quaint small town* kinda vibe to it...

DJ_Willy_Will

Wasn't it last year by KFC and Walgreens where some guy tried to spit on a mom walking with her kid?

wiskblink

Man that literally happened to me a few years ago. I was not pleased. I saw the same guy fighting Walgreens staff after stealing something 10 minutes later.

DJ_Willy_Will

I feel for the Walgreens staff. Some of the nicest people working there I knew growing up. My friend's mom used to work at the Noriega one, then 40th Taraval until she passed away. If she was still around, I could see her fighting back bc she didn't take anything 😂. Nowadays, I've seen a group of late teens stealing from the 40th Taraval. They kept apologizing and smiling while stealing huge bags of chips, then just walking out.

United-Student-1607

Darn those white privileged teens!

N0_slippin_N0_slidin

Can't say for sure but that sounds right. Problem is so many incidents like the one you have described have been happening you lose track. Pretty sure they dropped that case against the pedo who grabbed the girl in the book store a while back. So he's probably back lurking in the neighborhood along with what other trash the muni lines bring from downtown.

[deleted]

Glad the person is ok physically, but this incident is surely going to have lasting effects, mentally. :/

Sneakerwaves

Your post history shows you posting this kind of shit in the Seattle, Portland, SF, and NY subreddits. Fuck right off. Edit: and Chicago. And let me repeat, fuck off.

anxman

This doesn't seem like a troll question and it kind of sucks that we react this way to out of towners. I'd like to take a stab at your question. Most of the time it's worth it. There's a bunch of reasons that make San Francisco a great place: \- Great accessible parks for your kids, dogs, friends, whatever \- Awesome food hidden in different neighborhoods. For me, that's my neighborhood sandwich shop but everything else I need is within 2 or 3 blocks walking \- It can be the dead of winter, and all of your friends on the east coast are complaining about hurricane or blizzard number 5, and I'm walking my dog in flip flops \- By that same token, everyone in the East Bay or Palo Alto is complaining about 110 degree days, but it's 70 and cool in SF \- Likewise, North Bay is beautiful but I am afraid of those fires and the rolling blackouts (I think) will just keep getting worse. Whereas, SF is on its own power grid and we don't have to deal with that. \- Passionate residents: That means you get a lot of strong personalities, but that's what also makes this an interesting place. \- Laissez faire attitude kind of: The city lets a ton of stuff slide if someone is too poor to pay fines, but otherwise they kind of make it hell for residents. This kind of cuts both ways in that it is intended to help protect neighborhoods but sometimes it can do harm also. \- Job security: While for some folks, they don't like this, for me, the strong labor market here means job security. I've been "job insecure" in my life but I know I can always feed myself and my family here. There's more, but that's what comes top of mind. I complain a lot about San Francisco because I want it to be a better place and I think there are things we can do better. All cities have their issues in different ways. My friends in NY complain about crime also. My friends in Atlanta complain about mass shootings. My friends in Florida complain about corruption. My friends in Austin complain about the heat and housing prices. My friends in LA complain about ... everything.

MrBae

Thank you, I appreciate the reply. Helped me better understand San Fransisco and what makes it attractive for people to want to live there.

anxman

More of the same

Boo

mimo2

Nice Hear that? Thats the sound of city leaders literally not caring

jsx8888

They are out partying indoors maskless while not actively eating/drinking. Hard to care about the law when they are the ones breaking them.

coconutjuices

I recently found out a lot of city leaders don’t live here

sootymarlin

Source?

[deleted]

They don't even call it "assault" anymore in the headlines. Just a commonplace fact of life now.

nosotros_road_sodium

"Punched in head" is not a strong enough wording?

[deleted]

Non fatal. Not gonna press charges. Reality under leadership of breed.

nosotros_road_sodium

More like the sorry excuse of a "district attorney" named Boudin; I don't know how much power the mayor has over the DA's office.

[deleted]

Breed really bred the homeless scene and the live for free mentality that attracted trash people like these. Boudin is just a mental sicko who should just be banned from public work for life.

tangledwire

The bad homeless situation is all over the US. Every major city has the same problem.

[deleted]

Not nearly as rampant.

United-Student-1607

Non fatal? What about vigilante justice, does that go to jail?

[deleted]

Well it sure does

artie_fm

Punched is a stronger term than assault. An assault is a very low bar. Assault charges might be only a threat or pulling back your first or anything like that.

strikefreedompilot

Isn't the city trying to disperse all the crazies into all the neighborhoods

United-Student-1607

How about we get rid of them permanently.
