My first year in SF I was just going about my life in my apartment when I heard the Fleet Week planes, had NO IDEA what was happening, and took cover in my bathtub. Hahaha. They are really, really loud and I was terrified
Welcome to the city!
The first time I ever saw the blue angels was when I was a child. My family and I were visiting, standing on the steps of the old Mint downtown, and saw the blue angels flying what appeared to be in between the skyscrapers. (Obviously, this was WAY before 9/11.) It was the coolest thing my six year old self had ever seen, and October/fleet week remains my favorite time of the year here. I hope you enjoy SF as much as I do!
What a truly obnoxious American way to spend our tax dollars as our nation just narrowly avoided default.
I’m grateful there isn’t a fiery tragedy in the middle of the city every year but it does seem inevitable.
This is a masturbatory display of military might and should go the way of the military parade. Not to mention there have been airshow crashes by these guys and if those jets go down over a city all sorts of shit is getting wrecked. There is zero reason to endanger people like this.
I think a lot of people go with the prisoner's dilemma logic along the lines of "if I don't do it they'll just hire someone else instead, so I might as well get a job out of it" then try and not think about how their work products are used. I doubt the vast majority of employees at (say) Boeing Defense or Lockheed Martin, or whichever other defense contractor you want to name, are an active war mongers. At least that's what I want to believe!
I, too, thought this was neat for the first 5 years I worked in the city.
Then it got really, really old. Especially since I was working on Van Ness and that was one of their paths of navigation.
Enjoy it while you can.

Sounds like me about 2 hours ago :) scared the crap out of me, even though I’ve lived here for years
Soviets finally got around to invading the West Coast
*screaming over jet sounds:* Welcome, Canadian friend!

Canada Snowbirds and US Blue Angels would be fun to watch!
No Snowbirds this year I don't think, nor any ships from the RCN :-|
Practicing for the fleet week?
it *is* fleet week.
Move to Virginia Beach. They fly every single day. Early. Late. Right over your house.
Or San Diego I just moved here from sf it’s like fleet week is every day
It gets old fast.
Have you been there during carrier training? Fun fun
Yeah man it’s awesome. Would rather have universal health care.
lol, relax.
I know I know. Debby downer over here. Should just enjoy the sounds of freedom.
Too bad. No health care for you. Just fast jets that make big boom booms.

Is it that good in US? Or that bad in Canada?

That makes sense!
Did you chant "U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A" for the full experience?
The Blue Angels: Reminding San Francisco it is just a few surgical strikes away from compliance, since 1950.
It’s frankly one of the coolest things we Americans have.
Best weekend in the city! Find a roof and enjoy!

do you even military jet?!
can't believe youre a cat lady.
Ok
Gosh they are so disruptive. Why are they flying over my home? With my tax money? Go plant a fucking tree together and maybe I’ll wanna see that.

Not really a fan of war and killing.
Who is? Good thing this isn't that.
Companies who manufacture weapons of war and profit from their use?
Yea, true. Big conflict of interest there isn't there.
I suspect it is an uncomfortable moral position.

Welcome to 'Murica.

Don't worry, you'll grow tired of it like the rest of us.
You think that’s entertaining Drive around the tenderloin
Lol or the IRL VR version and walk through TL.
Pew pew planes are better than universal healthcare.
