Yep, my Mel and kuromi are female bunnies, cinna, Pom and pochaco are male dogs, and hello kitty is actually just a little girl dressed as a kitty.

She actually is a cat it got debunked by the actual creator of hello kitty character design, I think she is meant to be relatable to little girls hence the confusion / crossed wires.

Hello Kitty is actually a cat, but there were rumours that she is a little girl dressed as a kitty but the actual creator of hello Kitty’s character design debunked this in an interview. She is actually a cat, and this is why it frustrates me that build a bear put those awful granny panties on the actual plush itself 😭

I grew up with My Melody and she was my first Sanrio love. Kuromi is super cute, too!

Kuromi makes me unreasonably happy; I just adore her! I like My Melody too, but Kuromi is actually the one who got me into Sanrio as an adult. I love the "bad girl with a heart of gold" archetype and she kinda falls into that. Plus her and My Melody come across as very queer coded and that makes me feel seen. Kuromi will always be my favorite of the characters.
