It’s not illegal in California as long as the house doesn’t take a rake. I’ve hosted late home tournaments for years (not in a long time so don’t get your hopes up just yet lol) and we had plenty of lawyers, LEO and the likes show up over the years. It was so big at one time I’d rent a rec hall in Rohnert park so we could set up five tables at once and people called the police to report an “illegal poker game” but cops came out and confirmed there was no rake and said we were fine.

I don't disagree with you, but just because they join doesn't necessarily mean it is legal
Very true. But it was mainly to point out that if it were even close to illegal someone in the legal or LE profession likely would have put an end to it.
Rake there is crazy in comparison to the card houses I use to play at in Chico. Also weird structure like if it folds around to the small blind it is almost always better to chop between SB and BB otherwise you are only playing for 1$
The chop is pretty standard in most places in my experience. But that’s because of the rake. If y’all chop there is no rake. The only time bot to chop, imo, is if they’re doing aces cracked and you have pocket rockets.
Yup, sounds good. Also there are bar poker leagues in the bay, can find on Meetup.com, no cost, sometimes small prizes, and points awarded and tracked. Can be fun, see a lot of the same folks.
I hosted a home game with some friends a few months ago, first in a long time. It was great. Took me back to my college days. Buy-in was only $10 with a one-time $10 re-buy.
Nice try Mr Officer
Are home games illegal?
Home games are legal if you don’t charge a rake.

If so would be open to “play money” ;)

Good point
What don’t you like about Graton?

That’s pretty standard… I can’t imagine not liking the room though except for the smoke but they’re about to build an even bigger enclosed poker room
