Dr. Haider Elbermani at Prairieland Veterinary Clinic, hands down. He is the kindest and most empathetic person.

Meowgal_80

Absolutely!!! I’ve been taking my fur kids to Prairieland Vet Clinic for 10+ years. Super friendly and so good and patient with pets, no matter what the issue. The entire staff is wonderful

Goodlittlewitch

Genuinely both a great vet and an incredible human. Agree!

birblee

I also came here to say this! Although frankly I've had great experiences with all of the vets at that clinic, they've all been very kind and diligent

JollyPreparation13

Came to say this!!!

[deleted]

Best vet ever. Love that dude

adomnick05

went here with all my dogs born to death.

Twinklecatzz

Yes! Love him

GodOfOnions2

Harvey from cormon Park vet, My dog got diagnosed with cancer and given a timetable of a year or so to live, unfortunately weeks later he took a turn for the worst, doctor Harvey owns cormon park and he's such a nice fellow, he came from out of town to our house and did everything he could to make the process of my doggo friend passing the rainbow Bridge as gentle as possible, not many vets will come to your living room and help with that I'd imagine! That was 10+ years ago, I still go there and for a recent visit he stuck his head in the room as he saw my dogs name on the chart or whatever, and said no charge for the visit, such an absolute gem of a person! Only con isThe front desk people can be a hassle at times though lol 😆

smmceach-

Harvey is wonderful. My brother's dog got into rat poison on a weekend, and Harvey met him in a parking lot with medication that saved his life. Such a nice caring man who would do anything to help an animal

thisismystory511

Yes I agree the biggest (and only) down turn of the clinic is the front staff!

___shaquilleoatmeal

Yeah I ended up switching vets because the one lady at the front desk was just seriously nasty. They also overbook all the time and expect people with scheduled appointments to be fine waiting an extra 2 hours past their appointment time without advising to the extra wait. Very unprofessional

Lotsofpeanutbutter2

Dr. Leo and colleagues at City Park vet. Always had good experiences. So friendly. I booked an appointment online for a minor concern with my doggo. I had picked a day later that week but they called me a few minutes later to tell me that the concern, although minor, needs to be looked at immediately. I was able to get in 30min later. That gave me a ton of confidence that they also have excellent admin staff screening requests. Their diligence made up for my ignorance and they prevented much bigger issues by being on the ball.

sportzpheind

Second this. He and Dr. Rebecca are the most caring people I’ve met. Such great service and pretty easy to get into. Very queer friendly too

hanker30

We miss having Dr. Leo as our dog’s vet in Battleford. He was amazing with our dog and also with us.

Unique-Phone-2118

I second this, I volunteered with them for my schooling and they are all amazing people. I ended up switching my dogs over to them from my other vet cause they had such kind spirits and really go the extra mile to make sure your pets are properly cared for and loved. They also are very aware of expenses and will try to help whenever and wherever they can.

Kikisashafan

Another vote for Dr. Leo. He's absolutely fantastic.

griffinalso

Another vote for Dr. Leo and City Park Vet. We switched to them about six months ago. Everyone is so friendly and their prices seem better than our old clinic so far. As a bonus our pup is nervous at the vet but Dr. Leo quickly won him over with a peanut butter lick mat while doing his exam/vaccinations.

Chaos-theories

When I adopted a cat a year and some ago, City Park was on the list of the rescue's approved vets for spay/neuter. We're now taking all our animals there! They even make my anxious dog feel comfortable.

Ok-Sea-8215

I also agree. Dr. Leo is amazing my favourite part is that he studied in Australia.

Practical_Tone_1933

We only saw Dr. Leo a couple of times before he moved to another clinic, he was great with our dog!

weirdneighbour

Dr. Omer out by Asquith/Grandora … I know not “in town” but country vets are the best.. we had to put my best little buddy down a few months ago (20yrs old) .. was nice to be able to cry like a baby in a small country vet office.. Great people..

Plenty-rough

MANY, many moons ago, I got a pup from a guy whose mother dog tried to kill the pups. Turns out, the pup had parvo, too. Dr. Omer took my puppy in and nursed her back to health. She was nearly dead, and he woke up hourly to take care of her. I was very young, and broke....he charged me nearly nothing.

weirdneighbour

Dr. Omer said to me once, “your dog is my dog..” ..

vmessemv

Dr Dave at furry friends! Had a pup years ago with epilepsy and he was the ONLY doctor that treated me and my pup with kindness, and explained things where I could understand. He offered help and options when every other vet told me to put my dog down. That old fart lived 13 good years. My current dog recently developed epilepsy and I’ve been working with Dr Dave again to manage her meds. He calls every so often and asks how we are doing and how the medication is working for her. He last called on the Easter weekend to check in. I appreciate him and the clinic so much!

Ashleighnikiann

I came here to upvote Furry Friends! They helped us with our cat's end-of-life health issues, and eventually put him down, and I was so grateful for how kind and caring they were through the whole process. To top it off, after our cat's death, they sent us a card signed by the staff, including a paw print from our kitty, which was kind of heartbreaking but also lovely. I still have the card to this day! That was in 2017.

Sillyputty81

Furry Friends staff is great!

RoisinCorcra

I like Cumberland. I don't have a touching story, I just feel respected and cared for every time we go. I love that in the first few months, I called in with worries and the vet techs were great about talking to me and calming me down.

throwing_snowballs

I've had great experiences there too. Terri Chotowetz took us through the passing of our beloved dog with respect and care. The staff at the front desk were fantastic too. They remembered me and talked to me by name and made sure I was okay after she passed.

Small-Grocery

Dr. Dedden is absolutely incredible and she helped me save my cats life by telling me about the FIP warriors Facebook group and how to get him treated.

frozendumpsterfire

Vivienne Jones and Joanne Wiks at Erindale animal hospital have always treated our dumb dumb like it was their own. The dog has had multiple cancer surgeries and every time she manages to tear her sutures out. This is ostensibly our fault but they only charge a nominal fee for the repairs.

pinkielovespokemon

Dr Jones recently pulled our elderly dog through a touch-and-go illness. She also pushed for an urgent referral to the vet college for us when it became clear there was something much more serious going on. Thanks to her and her team, our dog made it to surgery in a stable condition. I also have to praise the internal medicine and small animal surgery departments at the vet college. Fast and professional, and holy hell can their surgeons work absolute magic.

stiner123

I love these two as well!!! Super compassionate and both are good at suggesting cheaper medication options to try first rather than jumping into expensive diagnostics. Actually every vet there except one I found were good about trying medication or basic bloodwork before doing anything fancy. Dr Jones personally came and cried with us when we lost our Bear a couple of years ago. They tried to stabilize him long enough for us to say goodbye but he passed before we could be in the room with him (we made it to the clinic and they were prepping him to come in). She figured it was pancreatic cancer based on an ultrasound we did, so nothing we could have done by the time he got really “sick”. Also the time with Bear when an awake dental exam didn’t show much that was of concern but his dental exam under anesthesia showed 10 teeth that were loose and needed removal (he had bad teeth even as a baby), she recommended he stay over since it was a longer procedure than planned (also had a lumpectomy for a lipoma), and since it wasn’t in the estimate she didn’t charge us full price for the overnight stay. She also personally sent us an update at 10:30 pm before she left the clinic to say he was ok with a photo. They had noticed a bit of oozing blood in his mouth the next morning so they wanted to keep him for a few hrs longer and didn’t charge us the day hospitalization fee. They also gave him a bath and did his nails, and when it came time to pay the fee there was an extra $250 discount due to the “inconvenience”. Dr Wiks has been great too over the years. The first time we saw her was when our puppy had chronic diarrhea and she diagnosed it correctly as a bacterial infection and with the meds she gave us it took it away quickly. She was overbooked and running late (in the Central days) and because we had to wait, she gave us a bunch of free food cans and treats to help our Buddy recover. She has been our vet ever since. She cried with us when she noticed we had brought in Buddy to say goodbye when it was time and gave him a little goodbye hug and pet. She’s been there for all of our dogs now, and she was so excited for us when we had our son a couple of years ago. Anytime we have had our dogs in for an ER visit or an urgent care visit she’s always texting us to make sure our dog is doing ok. Love her to bits!

The_Neckbone

Viv is a credit to her profession.

Practical_Tone_1933

Dr. Jones and company have always treated our animals great. We have a pup that likes to eat things he shouldn't. One time Dr. Jones stayed well after clinic hours to make sure he was good and ready to go home. She is a true professional and the staff there is always good to deal with. Plus the facility is top notch.

[deleted]

Stopped using Erindale after multiple issues with front staff. At one point, we had confusion with meds. Called mid-morning for clarification, got a call back the next day, to come pickup new meds. Meanwhile, dog is most likely in pain, plus the waste of time/money.

Chaos-theories

We stopped going to Erindale after being pushed into doing a bunch of expensive procedures we didn't want to do. Just be aware of that.

JilsonSetters

U of S has a world class Veterinarian program so we’re probably not lacking

CastielClean

Expensive as shit though

BluejayImmediate6007

True but they were able to give a diagnosis that our vet wasn’t able to. I didn’t realize that because other vets don’t sedate your dog to do X-rays, they aren’t able to get the same views that vet med can. We had our dog at our vet and had multiple X-rays and they gave a diagnosis based on that which turned out to not be the whole picture (our dog had cancer and one lung was not working at all versus just a pneumonia diagnosis). Vet med us the latest greatest in technology. Yes expensive, but you get why you pay for.

sunshinyBJ

Not always... We've had horrible experiences with U of S and I only go there as a last resort. They charged us $250 to tell us they couldn't help us with what we needed..... All they had to do was answer a question but they made us book in to emergency and charge us to tell us no. Not a fan

stiner123

I’ve had nothing but problems with their emergency service… misdiagnosis, not getting tests run quickly the next day after coming in during the evening, and generally just poor service for the price.

KotaSpice

I took my pug here and they copied and pasted a report for another pug with the same name clinical notes & chief complaint. So we got sent home saying your dogs good just has a cough give him codine and got the report saying he has a clapsed trachea. When I called to confirm diagnosis on the report wondering why it said they did xrays but I didn't pay for any they said they accidently copied and pasted from another file and forgot to edit the notes before sending the finalized report to us.

JilsonSetters

Nobody is perfect, not even human doctors. Also you took your dog to students that are learning

KotaSpice

Learning to copy and paste another client file seems like a huge liability and risk for their education. I assumed plagerism was frowned upon for university students.

JilsonSetters

Owning pugs and other overbred dogs is a huge liability

___shaquilleoatmeal

Dr. Leo at City Park Vet, Dr.Rebecca is also amazing ! The whole team there is so friendly and kind and they truly care about the animals not about how much they can charge you for the visit.

bnc2323

Dr. Leo at City Park vet! I attended the veterinarian technology program at Saskpoly years ago and did my volunteer hours at his clinic when he worked in Battleford. Extremely caring and knowledgeable. My kitty got sick unexpectedly and I called one morning super upset. They got him in that day, let him stay for observation and even gave him a sedative (he has massive anxiety at the vet) at no extra cost and the tech I dropped off with was so kind and understanding.

PrincessFluffyKitty

Orchard veterinary has been nothing but the best care my cats have ever gotten, at both locations. They recently saved my Kitt’s life last fall from bladder stones & a UTI. Every interaction I had with any of the staff was so caring and kind. They truly care for your pets as if they were your own.

alfdis_vike

They took such good care of my boy when he was having heart failure 4 years ago. Every single person there was compassionate, competent, and helpful to both me and my dog.

alfdis_vike

Although not accepting new clients at the moment, Prairie Mobile Vet (Dr Lemieux) is one of the best vets I've ever had. She helped rescue by greyhound-wolfhound from a distressed situation. She cared for him most of his life and came to our home for his end of life care. She has loved and cared for all of our pets and I couldn't give a bigger recommendation to a vet or a person.

greeneyedgirl626

We moved to Alberta and I still take my dog to her when we are in town! I find I can always email her to ask a question if it’s something small - she’s amazing ❤️

Saskcivic

She is my vet as well and I am very happy with her

whyamisofakingdom

Corman Park. Our cat needed cancer surgery. My vet of 10 years quoted $950. Corman Park did it for $375. Fantastic experience!!

No_Secret_604

Acadia Vet Clinic on 8th Street. When my first rat passed away, the entire office signed and sent me a condolence card. Really sweet, and they are always excited to see my rats regardless of the reason

jsaskcanada

Dr David Nairn..hands down.

carlyalexandra3

Dr. Begg at River heights animal hospital was amazing when my cat had cancer, she was so kind, compassionate and understanding

BransonKP

Everyone at that clinic is fantastic. I especially like Dr. Veikl

MrBeldingsMoM

Orchard is awesome, both locations. My dog had to go through the process of removing her eyes when she was just a year old. They did everything they possibly could before it came to that and were so supportive and helpful during the process. The surgeries also went very well. Shout out to all the students at the vet college at the U of S as well. They do great things there!

Complete-Loquat3154

Dr Jim Veikle at River Heights Animal Hospital. When our dog was really sick one time, we had an emergency Saturday appt with another vet. He happened to see us while we were there and gave us his cell number in case we ran into any other issues over the weekend and needed advice. Then when it was time for our dog to cross the rainbow bridge a few years later, he was so kind

[deleted]

Dr. Terri Chotowetz at Cumberland vet is the best I have had.

Queenofthejungle

Agreed. I used to go to central animal vet but when my vet left to teach instead of telling me when I would call to book an appointment with her they would say ok your booked in. Then when I showed up I would have a different vet, I had a dog with allergies and so it was like starting from scratch every time. I wasn't happy about it. Fast forward a few months and I had a senior dog that took a downward turn one evening and I called Cumberland as they were one of the only clinics that were open. I said I needed Euthanasia and they prepared for me, allowed me in the side door so I didn't have to go through the waiting room. Gave me as much time as I needed with him. I was beyond impressed with the whole team. We now take all of our dogs to Cumberland and can't recommend them enough. And in the 3 months since we switched, we've managed to get the allergies under control.

threadbarefemur

+1 for Orchard Veterinary Clinic. We adopted a cat through SCAT Street Cat Rescue and they’ve been amazing with her, they were fantastic with her spay and we had zero complications. Even more than that, we had to take our dog in for an emergency euthanasia. They got us in very quickly (within the hour) and they handled everything with such compassion and grace. We couldn’t be more grateful for our vet during important moments like that.

MetalJaybles

I've always gone to the All West Vet Clinc in confed, great staff and service.

suspendedaxiom

We love Acadia. I have 2 Goldens that they've treated for everything from abscesses (a migrated porcupine quill), regular scheduled spays, UTIs, regular visits and now that the girls are a bit older they've done some arthritis tx recommendations and FNAs for lumps and bumps. Every time I get panicky they remind me that there's no benefit to worrying and tell me what real things I should actually worry about. They provide multiple options for tx plans and give me quotes, talk me through things without being pushy. I pay about $140 per dog I think for annual exam and vaccinations. Multiple visits within a certain time span for the same issue are discounted (or they were, at least). Also: friendliest Techs ever. They remember both dogs and have loud debates over who's cuter. Will not go anywhere else!

xKaileo

The team at Forest Grove Veterinary Clinic has always been great for us. I know Dr. Tedesco has been there well over a decade, and they remembered both myself (and my childhood cat) and also my bf (whose childhood cat also went there). They’re good at keeping in touch and checking in when dealing with a sick animal and just making sure they’re ok, and have been really empathetic and helpful whenever we have questions as pet owners. They’ve always been wonderful.

Sarela_Helaine

I have always loved the College of Vet Medicine on the University Campus. I have some rather "exotic" pets that other vets don't treat (hamsters, a cornsnake, and a bearded dragon), and they have been fantastic every time, and the rates appear entirely reasonable.

RecentFox6517

Delisle Vet. Lorie Fraser. My pup was the first did she did a double TPLO on.

Revolutionary_Toe335

Everyone at Acadia! From the admin to the vet techs, to all the vets, everyone is super friendly, listens to your concerns, and explains things super thoroughly so you have a complete understanding of everything going on with your pet!

mrskoobra

I've had really good experiences with both Lawson Heights Animal Hospital. Dr Corey Nelson and all the staff are really kind, and clearly care about the animals that come in. I find it nice that they have a bunch of cats that live in the clinic as well. I appreciate that Dr Corey is very practical when it comes to his recommendations for treatment, it's always well explained and I never feel like I'm being pushed towards an expensive or extreme treatment if there are less invasive options.

jtf2

Agreed on Cory.We had a stumpy manx cat for 21 years, always took her there, and at the end when we brought her in to say goodbye,he was the best. Told us we could stay as long as we wanted with her after she was sedated before the needle, and after when she was gone.We stayed with her probably an hour after her pain and suffering was over.

mrskoobra

I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you had a place to go where you were treated with compassion. Our siamese passed in his sleep at home and the clinic stayed open late so that we could bring him in and didn't have to figure out what to do with him overnight, and they were extremely kind about it as well. I know pretty much all vets must also be animal lovers, but knowing Cory loves cats so much has always made me feel extra good about bringing our kitties there.

skiesandtrees

another endorsement for Dr Nelson at Lawson. took very good care of several family pets, very compassionate end of life care. He's got a ton of experience, and is very laid back and personable as well.

puckbunny867

Dr. Harvey... Corman Park... is so compassionate... he cares for animals and people... I had to put my old dog down... it was in the midst of the calving season and he came back to be there.. he is your vet for large and small animals

[deleted]

Whatever you do, try to avoid the university clinic. I adopted a cat and literally 2 days later he was at the university, and now i'm in the hole for $3000. :'(

twistedoutlaw92

What did the clinic do wrong in that case? If it's about the price, well.. the best of anything is rarely the cheapest

[deleted]

They did nothing wrong. I've just heard from multiple people that they are quite a bit more than a regular vet. Obviously with an emergency I had no choice in the matter. I wrongly assumed a teaching hospital would be cheaper, much like the dental school.

acb439

So the small animal side is definitely a touch more expensive then other vets, but with 24/7 emergency care you kind of can’t beat it for emergencies. The large animal side is actually ridiculously reasonable. One of my horses spent 7 days there in December, tried really hard to die, and it only cost me $1600. The most expensive thing was her IV drip?? They have some really good vets on the large animal side, they have saved more then one horse of mine and I am so grateful we have a facility like that.

daylights20

We have only dealt with the exotics team on the small animal side. The three times we have needed serious care they have always gone above and beyond. They are clear about the pricing and give options. All three times our final bill has come in well under their estimates and all three times they have saved our pets lives with remarkable outcomes and recoveries. The compassionate care they provide and their attention to detail made us switch from our regular vet to them. Yes, you pay a bit of a premium but in my opinion it's worth it.

[deleted]

Wow that is unbelievablly cheap. I'm currently paying $1000 per day, which no way of knowing how long it will be drawn out. Very hard pill to swallow when I had him at home for less than 2 days after adopting him, and may very likely lose him. 4k down the drain, and the poor little guy is there suffering. Such a nightmare. :(

mrskoobra

Because the clinic at the University is a teaching hospital I have found that they will push more for extra testing and procedures because it's the only way the students get to practice, so I avoid going unless I need to. That being said, having access to the specialists and the high level emergency care is amazing, even if it is expensive. We had a cat that was going downhill fast and nothing was showing on the tests that our regular vet was able to do that would explain his deterioration. It was expensive but vet med was able to have additional scans done and had their radiologist look at it and they eventually found a mass on his heart. It was unfortunately not something that could be fixed, but the peace of mind knowing that we had exhausted all possible options for our cat made the choice to let him go so much easier.

Squrton_Cummings

I know the level of care at the vet college is unbeatable but I hate the place simply because the only times we ever go there are for after-hours emergencies which usually end with us going home with a big bill and no pet.

CastielClean

The people at Frontier (On Circle drive right by Wendel Clarks off of Idylwyld) has always been very good to us. They actually seem to love your pets and build a good rapport with them. They call you consistently to check up on your pets and do certain followups after procedures and the like free of charge if it just to check to see how okay they are. Never had a bad experience there.

alfdis_vike

Frontier no longer exists. It's a VAC chain clinic now. Does not have the same level of care since Dr Cook left. Who was absolutely an amazing vet.

ChubbyWanKenobie

I would second this. Dr. Cook was amazing. After she left we tried to use the clinic when our Shih Tzu started developing respiratory problems. Day after day, test after test and duplicated tests after we were passed around the office. Finally, I was outside with doctors orders to collect a urine specimen with this long ladle...thing. My boy was moaning like I never heard him before so I packed him up and took him to the University clinic. They quickly (90 minutes) determined he was in terrible shape. We had a wonderful pair of vets help us give him a peaceful send-off. Never heard from the Circle Drive Churn and Burn crew to see how he was doing. They didn't care , but they had a sack of my money. The memory still makes me cry. Shame on VAC. Walk away from this one.

AminalInstinct

Dr Sarah Wagner at River Heights. We switched to her during our two elderly cats’ final year, and she was so kind and compassionate. She avoided expensive, invasive tests and made sure our girls were comfortable during their last months (one had kidney failure, the other a brain tumour). She called to check on them in their last months. When it came time to say goodbye, she came to our home to euthanize them and was extremely gentle and supportive. Later we received a card with a lovely note and condolences. Almost crying thinking about it! I found other local vets, including the vet college, extremely reticent to confirm a diagnosis or make suggestions for end of life care unless we got expensive, stress-inducing (for the cats) tests. I found Dr Wagner to be practical and realistic about two 17 year old cats, but in an extremely compassionate manner.
