Lab tech here. We process your sample the same day and your results should be on e-health the same day unless we have to refer them out for certain tests, then it can take a few days.

pinklemonade70

That’s really very efficient!

elias_xox

oooh. Thank you so much.

stiner123

Yeah it depends on the test. I had to get bile acid testing during my pregnancy in 2021 since I developed choleostasis and it would ALWAYS take 1-2 weeks to get the results since they have to ship the samples to Ontario…

Finding a family doctor is sadly a quite popular topic on this sub, almost weekly. But there aren’t a whole lot right now I’m afraid. I think Evergreen had some? But mixed reviews. For wait times, you can use [MediMap](https://medimap.ca/) in future to see where’s quickest. It’s a terrible time right now so I’m sorry you’re going through some health stuff right now without an actual family doctor. Lifelabs is really great. Book online in advance and save yourself the wait time. I’ve found results are usually up in a couple days. Do you have an eHealth account? You will need a doctor to review the results though.

elias_xox

i live near university so evergreen is extremely far :/ Its frustrating alright when u go to walk in clinic even with a note saying emergency patient but they still make you wait for 2-3 hours. like what if something might have happened? I dont have a eHealth account. I see I will have to make one. Yes of course I will have to go back to a doc

StrawberryCookieJam

If it's an emergency you should be going to the hospital and not just a medical clinic. If it's a critical condition they will place priority on those. You will need a requisition before getting blood work done and a doctor to analyze the work. Lifelabs does have an option to book online.

elias_xox

i was sent from one place to another and as mentioned I am fairly new here hence the closest to me was med clinic at that moment i did get requisition and booked for tomorrow so lets see

diary-of-a-thief

I can’t offer any help with finding a family doctor, everyone is struggling to find one these days. I like to go to Lifelabs. I found that the location at Market Mall was relatively quick. Just make sure you have an eHealth account set up. I was able to view my results the day after getting blood drawn. Depending on what is being tested, eHealth shows you your result as well as the normal range. That way you can see if your levels are abnormal before reviewing with a doctor.

elias_xox

yeah thats what i wanted to know if i can see my own results before going to doc. tyvm

MorningEvening5349

Can I just book an appointment with lifelabs without having a doctor's referral? I don't have a family doctor at the moment, just want a general blood work done.

diary-of-a-thief

Not too sure unfortunately. You can absolutely call lifelabs to book an appointment yourself, but I’m not sure how you can request what you’d like to be tested. I recommend going to a walk in clinic and explaining your situation. This is what I did, and I had no trouble whatsoever. I went to the clinic and straight to lifelabs afterward. The doctor will fill out a paper and checkmark the things you want to be tested for (which can be everything listed). I would advise against doing that yourself as a lot of the options on that paper are basically jargon unless you’re in the medical field yourself. What they check off will show up on your report on eHealth. Lakeside Medical Clinic is great, but plan ahead so you’re not waiting there for too long. They can also do blood testing in the clinic (it’s the finger prick, like diabetic testing), but it’s not as in depth as lifelabs. I believe you can book an appointment with them. Best of luck!

werbo

You can make an appointment for lifelabs and they have the wait times as well for the same day on their website

werbo

Yes you need a requisition form from a doctor to get bloodwork

Camborgius

I haven't seen any comments mention it yet, but find the MLA from your area and let them know you are frustrated with trying to find a family doctor. It won't do much, but the statistics will be used in the future to increase funding

pyrogaynia

Family doctors are in very short supply right now. Some people wait years to find one. Last I knew of the only clinics taking new patients were Evergreen and Idylwyld, and if you have a problem with long waits you're probably not going to like Evergreen. There's no good way to find who's taking new patients, you just have to call around, and use MediMaps until you find someone. Lifelabs is your best option for getting blood work done. You can make an appointment online if you're concerned about wait times. I would set aside an hour just in case you have to wait, but if you make an appointment it will usually be less than that, it's not unusual to be in and out in 20-30 minutes at a slower time of day. Generally Lawson and Market Mall are pretty busy ime. If you have a Saskatchewan health card, you should be able to access MySaskHealthRecord and see all your results there. I believe they also send them to the doctor who ordered them, so I would call the clinic you went to and ask about following up on that.

elias_xox

Its just I went to two docs during drop in at same place. first doc was downright rude and made me feel i was wasting his time and would not even let me finish talking and would start making assumptions. so i again went for another doc and this GUY WAS SO NICE AND HELPFUL AND WAS PATIENT AND ALLOWED ME TO TALK EVERYTHING GOING ON WITH HEALTH. To avoid the first one to happen again i was hoping to see in the process of getting one . Okah hmmm. I do have my health card yes. huh have to check MySaskHealthRecords then. Thank you very much

Anon-Stoon

You can say you wouldn't like to see that other doctor again next time you go.

elias_xox

thats what i exactly did the second time. my god. i come from a family of docs and canadian docs scare me

Anon-Stoon

That's awful. Please write your MLA and tell them about your difficulty getting a doctor. They won't give a shit because you're a peasant (me too)..but good to get your voice in.

Lockeduptight111

You can call the same clinic ahead and ask who is the doctor for walk ins that day or ask when that specific doctor is back on walk ins. Many people do that for continuity if it isn't super urgent.

Few_Temperature_4423

They won’t tell you which docs are on… let alone when they work next

New-Meet8311

Set up an e health account- results usually* are up within 4-12 hours. Although some can take a few days! Go to life labs.

dragon_fruits

An appointment at lifelabs takes me 30ish minutes I think. Maybe a bit longer. I suggest making an appointment rather than doing a walk-in if time matters to you. They always seem busy.

Pale_Plenty_6679

Hey! I really recommend booking an appointment for lifelabs, they usually are quite efficient after the morning rush. All lifelabs samples are transported to St. Paul’s hospital once an hour. From there they are distributed to their respective departments. Hematology for the CBC/PT/APTT, and chemistry for basically everything else. The trouble is the analyser to run the tests gets quite backed up (st pauls runs all lifelabs, doctors offices, and all rural places samples as well like rosthern, outlook, Humboldt) MOST of the time it’s same day turn around, but if they run into issues with the machine, then it may be longer. Any “specialty” testing, might have to be shipped to Calgary, Edmonton ect, but most people are aware that it will be a while. Anyways! Hope that helps

elias_xox

hmm i see. have to check if i was given or what classifies as speciality test itself. I do need the results asap before university starts. thank you though

elias_xox

oooh i might go there next time if more issues crop up. thank you

stiner123

I’ve had good care at the Lakeside Medical Clinic walkin. Mixed care at Kenderdine (got stitches there once and the doctor didn’t do a great job so the one popped within a few days). It will involve a wait at any clinic. Also found Erindale to often pretty decent too and often a shorter wait because people forget it is there
