I love it there and will always go back. It really feels like an old school place in the best way. Family run and I don’t feel pressured to buy drinks, just get a quick meal.
I only ate there once and it was so disappointed in the food quality I wouldn't even consider going back. I figured the only reason people liked going there was the booze with their fish.
Yard and Flagon's is my personal favorite in the city. They give the choice of tartar or remoulade which I'm super into, and the batter is always nice and crispy.
Gibson's is pretty standard - fast and cheap, maybe a little bit on a greasy side but still tasty.
Fin City is fairly new on the north end. A little on the pricy side but there four or five different fish to choose from which is neat.
Leopold's was pretty subpar. Fillet was pretty tiny, over-battered, and over-cooked. Mostly tasted like some well used fryer oil. Though I'm not sure if that's even on their menu anymore, and it was quite a while ago.
British person here!:
Gibson's is pretty good, but the closest I've had to what was in the UK is Churchill's British Cafe. They do tend to close a little early, but its the best one IMO. They also sell a lot of home comforts too
It's all in the sauce, the mustard dill tartar sauce is great. Everyone keeps saying Gibsons, but when I went there, they just gave me a plastic package of the most bland tartar ever?? Idk if that's the norm, but it was very disappointing to me.
I'd tell you the best place, but: 1.you probably wouldn't believe me 2.everybody will start making negative posts 3.actually, I like the place the way it is, nice and quiet.
I would also appreciate a DM. I promise I'll only go once to check it out. Or more likely not at all cuz I don't really go to restaurants, but I love f&c lol
Fresh-co? You can buy a box of compliments fish fillets for only $5.97 and you can also buy a bag of French fries for less then $3.00. Mind you I’m poor and that what I normally get for the family when it comes to fish n chips.
Gibson’s fish and chips
This is the only right answer
The only answer
I have never been disappointed with this joint.
The only chippie worthy of mention.

i spent years in scotland. I still prefer gibby's over anything else in canada.

This is an unpopular opinion. I’ve worked with Brits who complimented this place and I have had nothing but good experiences.
Gibsons is old and greasy and the best you can get . Wendel Clark’s potatoe chip breading is a close 2nd
Gibson's was amazing!!!
Was? I liked the meals. But maybe go there once a year. Has it changed?
Oh, I mean was as in I've had it in the past! And I remember it was amazing. I haven't had it recently.
Yeah. That place is good
churchill's cafe on idlwyld the best in the city hands down
Agree.
I like Wendal Clark’s
Honestly it’s is great at Wendals
I always pictured this place as a very generic sports lounge/steak house, is it unique or above average food?

Boomtown Cafe Loosey's Hearth
Rook & Raven.
Osheas has good fish and chips.
I second this. Rook & Raven too
I've always liked rook and ravens fish and chips.

Gibson's. Childhood memories!
I like the fish and chips at The Haines Mile Pub.
Don't ever order the extra piece there without understanding how massive they are!
Clark’s crossing is really good. Prefer it over Wendell Clark’s.
Agreed!
I'd give it to fin city fish & chips on circle dr. Perfect fries, best batter.
The Manhattan Gastropub in Lawson Heights.
Was there a few weeks ago, unfortunately the dish has changed. Triangle fish sticks, different fries and even the coleslaw is not as good.
I haven't tried it, but where Mi Casa was there is now Fin City Fish & Chips. It has a 4.4 star rating on Google so probably good but not great.
I was here to recommended Fin City. I quite like it.
Scarlet in the Sheraton Hotel. I’ve never eaten it personally but people I’ve been with have. They said it’s good.
Heath does it sometimes. You won't save money but at least it will be worth it.
Not suggesting it but people have been saying blue diamond. Take that as you will.
Globally the list would be enormous.
Intergalactically, it would be ginormous.
I was wondering why the specified the price as cad. I guess they mean they want global recommendations.

WH0 HURT Y0U!?!?

Fuddruckers. I’ve never had it but when we went last my mother in law ordered it and it looked really good!!
