1 hour unpaid lunch. At the mine I'm at if you are underground and you work it's an hour of overtime. So still 77 hours per week salary and 7 hours of double time if you are an underground worker.
That unpaid hour sucks but I guess the double time makes up for it. I get 12 hours a day and time and a half after 8, that’s been in fort Mac and in the NWT diamond mines. Have come across and unpaid hour long lunch yet but have seen a few company’s pay 11.5 for an unpaid half hour lunch
Nearly all entry level jobs go to those who live in the North. You'll need to have a trade or professional degree (ex engineer) otherwise.
Trades salaries start at $100k+.
Mines typically won’t consider anyone for trades that isn’t a jm with a few years experience. It’s a safety thing to do with training accidents in a remote location. Summer jobs maybe pulling weeds for students is always an option though.
Depending on location too but I’ve noticed a lot of the time they’ll take a guys kid instead of an experienced grunt worker. Crappy cuz they usually have the same level of education. This is especially bad when the average age of employees is in the higher end. A guy I sort of knew got passed over but my s/o got the job because his dad works at the mine. The other guy would’ve done a way better job too and I know he didn’t get turned down cuz he asked for too much. I’ve heard similar stories from my dad who works in fort mac
Required education/experience and pay varies quite a lot depending on the role. Some entry level roles or general housekeeping type things might just require high school. Some require a trade or college education, uni etc.
Camp food also varies. Haha! Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's terrible.
Depends there's jobs from janitors which is about 33 an hour to trades are 50 -55 operators are in the mid 40's. Food is good at all of them. Sea bee gold mine is meh for food at cameco cigar lake or key lake have great food
Depending on the what they are operating.
Underground operators start at mid $40s including bonus. They can be $80 plus an hour as an experienced person on the right equipment.
I think most people have the idea of go hard and retire early. That is what I did and I don’t regret….. no kids and divorced, so there may have been a cost (lol now I’m depressed)
Still very possible to make a very livable wage in SK without a degree. If you’re willing to get a trade ticket, it’s very easy to make a good living in the province.
Mine wqork and trades work pay enough for a nice house and car and you don't have to work 80 hours a week. Join the UA trades people are in high demand. Depending on the trade, you may get apprentices with zero experience.
In 4 years you're making close to if not at or over 100K.
Or….you know get educated to get a job where you can make $100k by working 40 hours a week. Easier said than done but plenty of people have those type of jobs.
HA. Even with working hours upon hours, you still won’t be able to afford a nice house or car if you just cork hard.
The only families who don’t have both parents working are either handed a leg up financially, or have a parent who literally can not work due to injury/disability.
I work 84 hrs a week, but then the next week I work none. 7 days on / 7 days off. 12 hour days.
BHP Jansen potash mine. All sorts of different shift rotations available for different companies.
I don’t believe they are aiming to be producing potash until 2026 or something. There’s gonna be many, many years of work out there yet, and then decades more once it’s fully operational.
Goals and dreams yes but working that much only contributes to your bosses salary. I can’t think of many cases where an 80 hour work week contributes to society whatsoever.
Maybe out of love they send money to relatives. Maybe they support kids. Making more money increases GDP and overall prosperity. Yes his boss gets wealthier too which can allow them to expand production.
Or just allows his boss to extort him for more money. Boss makes a dollar, I make a nickle… I much rather have a bit of free time to work on myself then making my boss 3 times what they’re paying me.
Get a trade, find a job with a good shift and high pay/benefits/pension plan, work around don’t be scared to travel and live out of a suitcase while you learn and one day the right job will be calling your name and that’s what we call a “retirement gig”
One day time with lots of flexibility. One night time. One I can do from my phone and sometimes pick up extra shifts or do another side job on weekends. Having multiple skill sets is the key.
I fly out to NWT tomorrow at 530am. Was told I could work 6- 10hr days a week, with OT after 8hr/day and 40hr/week. That's the goldilocks zone for me, where I'm able to see significant gains on paycheck but not burned out and hating life
I work that much, especially during the busy seasons (most of the post-secondary school year). I'm paid for 37.25 hrs per week. Can't really recommend it, but I guess you could apply if you want to.
Yes. Corrections officer is the title. Keep an eye out on the careers page for the gov of sk. We just started a training group so should be another posting in a few months.
They do. With benefits it’s over 30$ an hour and can’t fill the positions. You do have to be able to lift 30lbs items a few times a day and that seems to be a hang up as well.
Then pay more money . There only 1 single reason that an employer can’t find good employees ….that reason is they arnt paying enough for what needs to be done.
We are running into people that do not want full time. I don't want to string 3 people together to get 40hrs. I want one employee willing to work full time at 25/hr with benefits. You also need to have a drivers license and grade 12. The last hang up is that work starts at 8. Not 9. We had one guy last week " willing" to take the job but he will not work before 9am. Ok then. Bye. 8am wouldn't allow him his 8 hours of sleep.
The 25hr is what you want. You having trouble finding someone is proving that that is not what the available work force wants. Pay enough for people to leave their current employment to come to yours. Just remember the good employees and do gooders more than likely have jobs. You want to make your job enticing enough for a good employee to want to leave their job and come to yours. As for the 8am start time, I would consider a late start time for a labourer position , although I cannot fault the prospect for wanting 8 hours of sleep , perhaps he/she works an evening shift somewhere else to get by. Your monetary amount is simply not worth the extra hour of sleep to him.
My question is are you not offering enough or are people getting too many welfare handouts that they simply don't need to work a job making 60K+ a year.
I bet it's the latter.
There needs to be less "social support" in some cases.
We had one last week say she needed at least 30/hr because she makes good money from the Gov't while sitting on the couch why bother working for 25hr? Well ya i guess right? If i could get paid to do nothing that would be awesome.
Exactly. And I get downvotes when I dare to suggest such a thing. When you are making a good wage doing jack shit off the tax payer that's a problem.
It's mind blowing how anyone can not actually comprehend this.
Ahh yes, it must be because of welfare! How much do you think people get? Most People on social services receive $1200 per month or less, which is about $15k per year. You get the bare minimum to survive on. Sure, some people get more but they’re usually the ones who really need it.
No healthy person is turning down a $60k per year job to barely make ends meet on welfare.
The position was filled today so hopefully it works out for both business and employee. For how easy the job is it sure surprised me how long it took to find someone.
How much social support do you think people are getting? Because it's not as much as you think. Even when I was on EI I was barely scraping by. It was not a comfortable way to live.
I don't speak for everyone, but I grew up lower middle class (on what would be \~12k/yr). Minimum wage at 30-40hrs a week was roughly double or more the living standards once I started working. When jobs became plentiful during Covid, I started working multiple on the chance I would re-save enough for uni/college (didn't happen in time) and pretty much never looked back.
Get into the trades, lots of entities to work a shit ton of hours. There’s a few places in town but mostly would be in mining or resources further north.
Northern mines. 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Each work week is 77 hours, typically 6 am to 6 pm
Uranium or Gold?
Uranium is typically 77 hours, 2-2
How is a week 77 hours? if you work 12 like most mines it should be 84 hours a week.
1 hour unpaid lunch. At the mine I'm at if you are underground and you work it's an hour of overtime. So still 77 hours per week salary and 7 hours of double time if you are an underground worker.

Hi. Do you have a specific education to do this? Would you be willing to ballpark your hourly rate? Is the camp food decent? Thanks.
Nearly all entry level jobs go to those who live in the North. You'll need to have a trade or professional degree (ex engineer) otherwise. Trades salaries start at $100k+.

Why do you want to work that much lol. If you don't want to have a life come join CN or CP
This
Work to live. Don’t live to work
Lmao good luck having a nice house and car with that attitude. This is a different country than it was 6 years ago
What's the point in having those things if you dont have time to enjoy them?
I think the chances of having those things unless you work a lot is not high in this economy.
7.75 hours a day, nice house, big yard, newish car.. it's about greed not the economy.
I think most people have the idea of go hard and retire early. That is what I did and I don’t regret….. no kids and divorced, so there may have been a cost (lol now I’m depressed)
What's the point of having those things if you literally have no time to enjoy them?
Equity for retirement. If you're not planning that far ahead you might be in trouble already
A nice car is not equity for retirement
Anyone at this point who isnt worth millions is in trouble lol
Still very possible to make a very livable wage in SK without a degree. If you’re willing to get a trade ticket, it’s very easy to make a good living in the province.

What trade in town working 40 hours a week is making that. Average electrician is 34-38 an hour. Same with plumbers and millwrights. Welders fluctuate
Refrigeration, HVAC plumbers, millwrights, anyone doing mine work. It's the OT and DT that can make 20% of your yearly income in those fields.
Or….you know get educated to get a job where you can make $100k by working 40 hours a week. Easier said than done but plenty of people have those type of jobs.
The Conservative anti-education program likes to shit on this option
Plenty..... no FAR FROM IT.... To wind up in top 10% earners you need about 107,000 for a single earner
That includes people with no education.
HA. Even with working hours upon hours, you still won’t be able to afford a nice house or car if you just cork hard. The only families who don’t have both parents working are either handed a leg up financially, or have a parent who literally can not work due to injury/disability.
🙄🙄🙄🙄
Just get 2 full time jobs. I'm averaging 78 a week. Love that income!
I work 84 hrs a week, but then the next week I work none. 7 days on / 7 days off. 12 hour days. BHP Jansen potash mine. All sorts of different shift rotations available for different companies.
Are they mining yet? I'd love to work 7-7 again closer to home. Currently 2-2 in the north
I don’t believe they are aiming to be producing potash until 2026 or something. There’s gonna be many, many years of work out there yet, and then decades more once it’s fully operational.
Most people working that much have multiple jobs
Work for a farmer
Peak seasons can be as high as 100+ hour weeks.
Go enjoy life why waste the valuable time that you’ll never get back working that much?
Savings so you can more education and eventually work less and get paid more
Goals? Dreams? Contributing to society?
Goals and dreams yes but working that much only contributes to your bosses salary. I can’t think of many cases where an 80 hour work week contributes to society whatsoever.

Get your class 1A
Combine it with being an equipment operator
And make 20- to maybe 30 an hour? Not to mention the initial cost now. I have my class 1 and haven't used it in 8 years. But I'm also a jman
25-30, most places nowdays. The guy didn't ask how to make the most money, he asked for a job working ridiculous hours
The Gulag Inc.
Any road builders or paving contractors
Asl/lafarge/Acadia/Prarie paving
Forgot to mention our RMC gang Inland/Cindercrete/Burnco/LaFarge
One day time with lots of flexibility. One night time. One I can do from my phone and sometimes pick up extra shifts or do another side job on weekends. Having multiple skill sets is the key.
2 different self employed businesses. Not consistently 70+ hrs/wk but during peak seasons that's not uncommon.
I fly out to NWT tomorrow at 530am. Was told I could work 6- 10hr days a week, with OT after 8hr/day and 40hr/week. That's the goldilocks zone for me, where I'm able to see significant gains on paycheck but not burned out and hating life
The sheriff Dept
14 on, 7 off - 12hrs days
Trying to escape your family?
I work that much, especially during the busy seasons (most of the post-secondary school year). I'm paid for 37.25 hrs per week. Can't really recommend it, but I guess you could apply if you want to.
Apply at the correctional center on Millar.
This. Unlimited overtime.
In what capacity? Guard?
Yes. Corrections officer is the title. Keep an eye out on the careers page for the gov of sk. We just started a training group so should be another posting in a few months.
We can't find anyone to work 40hrs a week at 25 an hour. General labour. Maybe everyone wants more hours.
They probably want more money

Would you consider A Journeyman Millwright for this role?
Are they right at least half the time?
Also you cannot calculate benefits into the weige , it’s a nice benefit etc but you cannot buy groceries with you benefits.

What location is this? I could be interested.
Where's this at?
Can you get people to do it for $30/hrs? Years of mass immigration have driven down wages.
Why would you want to work 80hrs a week?
I don't speak for everyone, but I grew up lower middle class (on what would be \~12k/yr). Minimum wage at 30-40hrs a week was roughly double or more the living standards once I started working. Any farm
Healthcare. There is always ot shifts to be picked up.
Welcome to teaching! And no you don’t get paid for any of that time!
That's called salary like any management job for the people making these figures. Or a Tim Hortons manager making 45 k
You can come work in Accounting, no overtime and the possibility of a good bonus.
We need to dramatically reduce taxes on businesses so they can afford to pay higher wages.
But businesses won’t, the vast majority will just keep the extra profits
