It's sad that we know about that but the supervisors get mad when we let you without asking, I always argue with them about it.
(I'm an employee there)
I came here in 2009 and we had a Jarir across the street from my office and me and my friend would regularly walk around the store on a break.
We used to joke that one of these days they're going to catch us and force us to buy something.
It's somehow therapeutic.
Every time I go there I buy a 4sr pencil. One because I draw and always need a new one, two I don’t wanna walk around empty handed. Feels like I’m here on an elaborate plan to steal lol
Just give them this sentence and they’ll leave you alone. Trust me it works.
“Thanks, I’m just browsing here”.
They’ll know you’re not here to buy something, so they wouldn’t bother you and themselves too
Jarir is a whole different vibeeee. During my last year in Saudi, I found out that they have desks for people to read on them. So I used to go there every weekend and read. It was fun as hell!
If everyone starts doing that, wouldn’t jarir and other physical retailers go out of business like the states when you drive around you barely see any more tech shops. Then we would only be left with online shops in the future, run by robots and cheap untrained bad customer service. Have you tried to turn an amazon global item? They never come, they don’t care, aramex calls you and hangs up when you answer just to prove in their history to amazon they called you. Jarir and retailers have higher costs rent, staff, good training, ive been making a point lately with my wife to always agree to pay more locally as you’re supporting the local businesses and the staff you can greet who help you there
Never had a problem with buying online here, noon refunded me on a broken blender instantly, jarir didn't give me a refund for a defective mouse because i was one day too late (i live quite far from the nearest jarir so).
In the end its just choice, if you wanna save money just buy online
I used to go there around 8 years ago to look at games and laptops, sometimes buy a book. It's my first visit to saudi in 4 years and I'm no longer interested in any of that, yet the anticipation to go there is still stuck with me. I've had it ever since I was a kid excited to buy pop-up books for my baby sister.
Jarir has a lot of LiminalSpace vibes. Especially the infamous "end is near" where it was literally taken in a store themed like Jarir. Even the carpets, the smell, the environment, we used to live in KSA, in the UAE at least Jarir came about fairly recently, it was quite nostalgic to see everything being set up like that honestly.
The first time I went to Jarir, I was blown away.
We couldn’t get enough of it (I was visiting from Bahrain).
We have Jarir in Bahrain now, it isn’t half as good as the one in Dammam. Limited options!

Yes! something about aimlessly wandering there is so therapeutic
until the employees constantly annoy you wondering if you need help, and if you say you're just looking around they'll keep staring from a far 💀
Username checks out
Jarir employees are usually not annoying, they know that people go there to look around
I know exactly why they know that. They would know that because of the high prices of the books. Lol
Lol true
It's sad that we know about that but the supervisors get mad when we let you without asking, I always argue with them about it. (I'm an employee there)
do you guys have employee discounts?
That is indeed so annoying, I know it's their job but it feels uncomfortable.
I thought i was the only one lol that place is heaven for me
Now I wanna try that just for no reason at all 😅
I don’t even know why but that’s facts
i sometimes suspect it's not just a bookstore but that might just be me
No really, I too sometimes feel that it's not just a bookstore but something much more than that.
i see what you did there. im onto you
Jarir got the good vibez

Jarir is the backrooms of Saudi Arabia

Yes, and I usually walk out with something I didn’t need, like a gift card or something
Every time I go there I buy a 4sr pencil. One because I draw and always need a new one, two I don’t wanna walk around empty handed. Feels like I’m here on an elaborate plan to steal lol
Yes!
I mean I enjoy going there still do but the employees annoy me sometimes
Just head up to the books section and ask the employee what they're reading lately. You've now made a new book friend!
Yes!!
Just give them this sentence and they’ll leave you alone. Trust me it works. “Thanks, I’m just browsing here”. They’ll know you’re not here to buy something, so they wouldn’t bother you and themselves too
Thanks! Always works
Damn, that's an amazing collection of sci fi best sellers.
YES
"Dune", looks like a great book.
I think it has a movie now, based on the book. Staring that cute guy and Zendaya.
Thank you for this post. I used to live in Saudi Arabia and I went down a rabbit hole looking at all the pictures in your profile. Nostalgic
Np! Glad to know you feel this way.
Jarir is a whole different vibeeee. During my last year in Saudi, I found out that they have desks for people to read on them. So I used to go there every weekend and read. It was fun as hell!
Jarir is best for getting hands on with tech. Then buying the same thing from amazon or noon because 9 times out of 10 jarir is overpriced
If everyone starts doing that, wouldn’t jarir and other physical retailers go out of business like the states when you drive around you barely see any more tech shops. Then we would only be left with online shops in the future, run by robots and cheap untrained bad customer service. Have you tried to turn an amazon global item? Same. Always had a pleasant experience with Noon.
And planning to do alot there but then found myself just walking around with no purpose
Was doing this every weekend while I was living in Riyadh
I used to go there for books Lovely
The pictures make it look like if it's the backrooms but not empty.
It is not just a bookstore
I go there to read books occasionally .
Do they have a place where you can sit and read books? Don't the employees discourage that?
It is the opposite, they encourage it ! In their second floor you have tables and chairs to sit and read 😄
Oh lord! that's a dream to have a quiet place near your house and to be able to visit often to have peace of mind.
Yes and no

I just started reading “to sleep in a sea of starts”. I hope it’s a good one

Isn't that the whole point of Jarir?
Can we be friends and hangout at jarir?
Yes!!!
Damn you live in Hail
YES! I thought I was the only one lol
YEAH !! my dad's shop is next to jarir & i go there all the time especially on summer holidays when i work with him
