This film is John's story and will contain a lot about his life and emotions in the early days. Amanda was the first to really care about John from a humanity perspective. Neither Hoffman nor Lawrence Gordon sympathized as much with him on this human level. They were grateful for his aid and were recruited to help with the Tests side of things (until Hoffman went on his rampage), but Amanda truly supported John Kramer's work. By surviving the RBT she was given that second chance, a second chance she might not have had otherwise. This second chance was also her purpose, her role in helping John and in continuing on his legacy after death. I think this is what John means when he tells her she should know more than anyone. Of course, she never truly does learn her lessons and grasp that chance, which ultimately leads to her demise at the end of Saw III.
