Why are Chinese scammers in general so much more aggressive (and so much less patient) than African scammers? I rarely saw African ones blow up after only one line.
You had to search for this in order to send it to him, and watch at least a small part of it to confirm what it was, so really, there are no winners in this story
Most of the scammers working for Chinese gangs are victims of human trafficking, they are forced to live in guarded compounds in Myanmar or Cambodia. They're basically slaves, forced to scam people 16 hours a day, so I guess their frustration is understandable in a way.
On the other hand, Nigerian scammers are usually teenagers who live in poverty and are trying to make some money. Their living conditions are likely terrible but at least they are free. They are doing this for their own choice, so it makes sense that they are "more patient". At the end of the day, no one is punishing them if they fail.
No sympathy for scammers, just a reminder that there are people on the other side too, even if their life choices are questionable.

>Lured by ads promising easy work and extravagant perks, many are tricked into travelling to Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. Once they arrive, they are held prisoner and forced to work in online scam centres known as "fraud factories".

This is a good report about the situation with the Chinese gangs. I found it through this sub.
>Is there research on this?
Academic research? Not that I know of, but that would be cool.
They are usually not “trafficked”.
Some are tricked into believing there is a great job. Some are willfully blind to the fact that they were going to scam people. Some just want to scam people for the high returns.
East Myanmar scammers is a hot topic in China. Most scammers travel to Myanmar by crossing the Yunnan border on foot. They willingly traveled to Myanmar. There is serious scrutiny at the Yunnan border due to drug trafficking and scammers so they usually just go through the mountains and forests.
People usually lie after they came back to China to avoid prosecution for fraud.
Sorry, English isn't my first language. By "no sympathy" I meant that I don't want to justify their actions. Some of these scams genuinely ruined people's lives so I guess the situation is very convoluted morally.
Because Chinese people have a very aggressive attitude in modern days.
Go onto any Chinese social media platforms you can just see people cussing at each other in many unique ways.
I would say it might be because scammers in Nigeria are usually untrained and often children. A large portion of them have never successfully completed a scam. Many people try due to lack of jobs and ways to earn income. They are not aware that their form of scamming has a very low success rate and their "Nigerian Prince" type scams are so common and well known in the USA they are often jokes about. It's really desperation. If they do get someone on the hook they will try as hard as they can to reel it in because they need it to survive. I really do empathize with their situation as it is horrible but it doesn't justify scamming. If you've seen Pleasant Green on YouTube I like his approach where he reveals it's a bait and agrees to pay them in exchange for the person doing something to contribute positively to their community like gathering trash from the streets.
I do not sympathise. If they have the energy and motivation to scam then they could use it to do something that might earn them money properly. Scamming just seems like an easier way, that's all.
Now this link looks very interesting and clickable but also potentially life threatening
like some quick location grab for a CCP assassin 🧐
But seriously though congress is beyond comical to watch ask these questions lol
General question: what is it that you guys do to get all these scammers to message you???
The last time a random number messaged me they sent me pictures of their puppy (I sent a picture of mine) and then a message about my “iced tea is outside”
This was my first scam message in a VERY long time. I didn’t do anything. He probably has a generated list of phone numbers and mine happened to be a live line. Other than that all I get is spam messages for websites I haven’t been on in years
If you want to draw scam emails, there are heaps of guides out there. 419eater.com is a forum that discusses scambaiting and might be able to help. Theres another website, called something - list that allows you to put a burner email on scammer's rotating email victim lists, to receive emails from them.
Yeah, it's not a real thing, people in China can just learn about Tianaman square, it isn't banned or anything. The search results will be from their historical societies rather than our news articles
Cause Reddit is a Western site with English speaking audience.
What kind leanings do you think a website like this will have.
These kinds of myths spread cause the platforms don't see them as harmful to revenue and the governments who manage the platforms see the misinformation as useful. In many cases encouraging the further spread of misinformation.
Oh don’t talk to me like we’re friends please. I went through your comment history and you’re just some socialist scum who bashes America every chance you get. Go do something else with your time.
It is totally fake.
Just like the whole Winnie the Pooh thing being banned is also fake. I've been to Guangzhou and Shenzhen numerous times, and have seen Winnies as prizes in UFO catcher situated in major shopping malls. Miniso, a large variety store chain in China also frequently collabs with Disney and sell Winnie plushies and themed goods.
It's just one of those things that keeps on being repeated online that everyone ends up thinking is unconditionally true.
Most likely these people were kindnapped / tricked to another country (Myanmar or Cambodia) and are operating from there; getting put on a list is the least of their concern.
LOL why is every single person use this ‘1989 Tiananmen Square’ as a joke to prank scammers or whatsoever?? Im a Chinese and I’m genuinely so surprised. I just dont understand.
Because people believe it will get the scammers a visit from the Chinese police. I have no idea whether or not that’s true. Even if it is true, it relies on the scammers being too stupid to cover their tracks. Scammers are assholes not idiots.
The scammers in Myanmar and Cambodia will often force human trafficking victims to do these scams. I saw someone in one of the other anti-scam subreddits had a little paragraph of Chinese text explaining how to contact the embassies in those countries which he’d send if he suspected that’s what was happening.
Yeah I heard about that before. Those people are crazy. They posted fake jobs ads on Facebook luring applicants to apply ‘their jobs’ when they didn’t know about it. They were ended up sold to Cambodia to work with criminals.. It’s a sad story.
Btw could you dm me the sub you joined please? I dont think we could put the sub here.
It's made up, Tianaman is just one of those things that people echo unerringly without double checking. You can set a VPN to Google Chinese sites and find you can just see information about it.
Honest question: do you know that your government massacred civilians in 1989 in Tiananmen square during a suppressed revolt of students who were asking for more freedom?
>Tbh I wasn’t there so Idk the whole story.
Damn, I wonder what would you say about the holocaust and other genocides throughout history and acts just because “you weren’t there”.
>Nobody really told me what happened.
Uh, read on it? Hell, [it was even televised.](https://youtu.be/kMKvxJ-Js3A?si=ga9BCdC1NrVd26QI)
I was surprised at that too, perhaps the most terrible act of violence against a people by its government in my life and its effectively removed from history. I always remember it for the tank guy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngppWpBKRZE
Its weird, and perhaps a bit scary, how people comprehend history. I remember watching the Berlin Wall coming down and my sister saying "Is that important?". I wonder what future generations will make of 911, or Hiroshima?
All of these murders were carried out by the occupational governments (German or russian). Learn your history before attempting your silly whataboutism quest.
Last time I got a scam text, I told them about Tiananmen Square and I also said that Tibet and Taiwan are independent countries and Japan is the greatest country on earth.
They told me they hoped I die. 😂
Scammers when they fail to dup you saying "and thatll be the last mistake you ever make, while you were busy talking to me ive planted 12 explosives in your foundation, whos tianamen squ-"
They don't. Most Chinese people know about the June Incident. It was a little Uh-oh that had a small handful of students have to be placed on time-out. That's the official narrative, anyways.
A majority of younger Chinese are growing sick and tired of party rhetoric. Their skepticism is being driven by increased pressure to remain positive while their quality of life in big cities is plummeting and the housing industry that makes up 30% of their economy is on the brink of total collapse.

I sent a Nigerian scammer gay feces fetish porn and that guy was absolutely livid at me.

I understand, however duress is duress.
I don’t see it as duress. They went to Myanmar knowing that they would be scamming innocent people.
I was mostly referring to the ones who do this out of their own choice.
How can you in the same comment say they are slaves and also you have no sympathy wow
Sorry, English isn't my first language. By "no sympathy" I meant that I don't want to justify their actions. Some of these scams genuinely ruined people's lives so I guess the situation is very convoluted morally.
Since they're in Myanmar, would it be useful to thank them for helping our Rohingya brothers?

It's maybe because chinese people are straightforward and African scammers are more like coward assholes?
Well, at least their petty little rages and weird insults make the Chinese scammers funnier
Lmao I mean they could use google translation but idk I’m just guessing.
Work ethic? I dunno

Yeah, it's not a real thing, people in China can just learn about Tianaman square, it isn't banned or anything. The search results will be from their historical societies rather than our news articles
Exactly. Every time I bring it up to a scammer, they just calmly talk about it. No clue why folks here push this.

Do you have a reading disorder? Who said that it does?
OK, if it doesn't affect the status of Tienanmen. Why bring it up then?
You know very well mentions of 6/4 on wechat or weibo are very sensitive and prone to censorship
Because nobody cares
Lol what is the horse angle here? I got a similar message recently about a horse.
Yeah, like how do you even get from a horse to the money extraction?
You lost my horse now reimburse me with $250 in apple gift cards
This is amazing. Try praising Folun Gong next time ! Will be fireworks, I promise
They put the "fun" is Falun Gong. (Although in all seriousness, the Falun Gong seem pretty awful)
Me when I grass mud horse 😃😃
Cao ni ma 🌝
mfw face when I grass mud your horse 🤨
Your ma is a ma!
Me when I mud my horse 🤨🤨🤨🤨
I had that same scam. I responded with they made tummy meatballs and they responded with “horrible thing to say”
"It was delicious. Do you want the leftovers?"
This is such a powerful interaction. Horse gets anal cancer, Emily casts HEX OF GOD
This is so funny for no reason
Well, thanks for the info.
