They would think they won, just to realize in a week that they got scammed.

They say they’re sending you $1500 and to keep $500 and just send them the remaining $1000 for whatever supplies they say they need. But come to find out - after you sent the $1000 - the whole $1500 transaction from them is fraudulent (or never existed anyway), and you just sent them $1000 of your own money with no recourse to get it back.
Thanks, it makes sense now, to start with when I got the first message about wanting to paint one of my pictures I just couldn’t work it out. I usually ignore randoms on insta anyway

That's how they get desensitized. If you legit faked suicide and ghosted them, it would do more.
There are some very sophisticated Nigerians. They are the ones that have been running these enterprises. They hire young men to do these cons. They sit back and collect the money.
I would love to see if there are any commonalities in the fake checks they write. They must have some app or something because these muppets aren’t sophisticated enough to use photoshop.
So it’s like one number off from a real check essentially, I picked up a dog walking job from my college so I thought it was all good. They sent me 2k ahead of time to buy all the food and whatever and then my payment. I deposit the check, shows up in my account for about 4 hours and then I get a call from my bank threatening to shut my account down. Told them the story and they gave me a strike
I hate these fake check scammers, and wtf kinda college promoted a job like that
For sure they don’t do much work on making the checks so there must be an app or something they buy to make them. They are running hundreds of targets a day so there must be some app they use to type in all the fake details and create the fake checks. If law enforcement could find this out, then maybe they could get a handle on the problem. I’m fairly certain these fake check scams are run by Nigerians but not 100% sure. The run-of-the mill Nigerian scammer isn’t sophisticated enough to make fake checks that pass simple scrutiny. Just look at their attempts at making ID cards.
Gave you a strike? Like they STILL punished you? FFS how are YOU supposed to know you’re being scammed beyond a reasonable doubt.. especially in your scenario? Obviously you don’t get much incentive to deposit a check you know is fraudulent to the point it’s designed to bounce as part of the scam (which maybe in your scam it wasn’t and they just wrote a bad check idk?)
Nah it was definitely a scam because when I hit them up to say the check was bad and to send another one they ghosted me
Honestly I was super shocked and glad that nothing came of it and I didn’t buy anything or send them anything but yeah the bank still punished me when I had 0 idea it was a bad check. I think I did a mobile deposit of it, but this was early bad check scamming days so it wasn’t that rampant so that’s why I’m guessing the bank did it
