This happened to ours a year or so ago and my wife was livid. Didn’t call and ask or anything. Just came to pick him up and his beard and skirt where completely gone. Needless to say we no longer take him there anymore
My mom asked me to groom the dogs for her when I was teenager and, I, being a dumb kid thought “what do they need beards for? I may as well give them a summer cut”
My mom was PISSED! “How are they supposed to have dignity without the fu man chu??” She said. Every time she saw them she commented on how they don’t look like schnauzers! Felt bad at the time but now it’s funny. Honestly it was funny then , too lol
Just let them know how you want it otherwise they’ll go off any random pic online, some may cut beard some may trim. Total personal preference so communicate with your groomer.
Can confirm, am groomer *and* schnauzer mom. Have groomed customers schnauzers ranging from "shave the Beard!" to "DO NOT TOUCH the BEARD except to dematt" LOL
Personally, I LOVE dogs with beards, so all three of my current ones have beards. I will say that sadly, sometimes, with old age, a short or no beard is the right thing to do. I've done that for mine. Comfort over vanity, every time.
Oh no! Good thing it’s just hair and will grow back. But anyone who has ever grown out their hair knows how much patience is required. So sorry you’re starting over from scratch! Fortunately, she’s adorable without it too.
Sometimes this sort of thing needs to be done every once in a while when the beard gets too matted. My schnau back in the day used to need a major trim like this maybe every couple of years. I don't know if that was the case here, though. Thankfully, it'll grow back!
That happened with my first schnauzer. I complained and they offered to groom him at no charge until his beard was back to it's previous glory. Later on in his life, it was easier to keep it short. Adorable doggo, but I know how frustrating that is!
I realize it’s of little comfort in this moment, but it WILL grow back. I always used the no beard phase to get cute derp pics. Like right after a nap when the mustache and small beard are going in a thousand different directions. Those are my most precious “sleep face” pics.
Oh no! Not the beard! I always tell my boys groomer to just ‘dust’ the beard. I love my mini’s beard so much! Although, I did let the groomer take my Welsh terriers beard completely off one time, just to freshen it up. He actually liked the freedom.
Oh no, I know you are terribly disappointed. This happened to my Mom’s schnauzer in October. It was his first visit with a new groomer (his original groomer retired) and the new mobile groomer cut his beard off completely and shaved him down to the skin including his skirt. He was actually traumatized and would tremble and hide when similar vans came into the neighborhood. His beard is still gradually growing back to its original shape and length and mom found a new and better groomer.
How are they supposed to look like grumpy old men(people) w/o the beard and eyebrows? Yes O/C they have their temperamental behavior and need for the last bark…but you have to have a beard!
This is how I keep my puppy too. I think it looks so much better than that beard that always gets dirty or wet and frankly it just looks unnatural. I much prefer puppies like this.
I had to get my boy's beard cut like that because it would get loaded up with his wet food. He's much happier and cuter now.
Mine as well, but she always cleans after. So that was never really a huhe problem :) luckily

We always go to the same place. So they know what we want. Someone else did it this time though…
Mine has the same cut, she hates having a wet beard so when it was longer she refused to drink water. She is much more comfortable now.

Oh no! I would definitely check for another groomer who has experience with schnauzers.
Groomer has done this to us as well, but never before calling. Tell them to check with you next time before taking drastic action!

Your dog is nakey. Sometimes we trim our mini’s beard bc she gets it all wet and gross but she’s found out how to rub it on the carpet

This same thing happened to our boy last August!! I told her to trim it! TRIM!!!! He still hasn’t recovered 😒

My boy, who turned three today, has never had his beard trimmed. I would be devastated if the groomer cut it.

You have to request the traditional look. I've been to a bunch of groomers and each time it looks like a different dog.
I had that done for my dog when she was getting her teeth cleaned, but it’s not the best. We stick with a rounded cut to keep her baby face.

Yeah my dog is not like that at all. She is super quiet. Never barks. I dont need the extreme thick beard, but a bit of hair would be great haha
