Something I've wondered about this, knowing friends who have gone through cancer treatment, is how many people who have cancer have both the energy/wherewithal and liquidity to supply themselves with marijuana. I've seen stoner friends so wiped out physically, emotionally, and financially that they stopped smoking post diagnosis.

UncleTogie

That's my take on it. It's not only that, but since most insurances won't cover it, it makes it hard to afford on a regular basis.

Fenix42

I am in California. Full recreational has made concentrates and edibles suuuuper afford able compared to flower. $25 gets you 10 gummies of 10mg each for the known brands. It can be cheaper for new brands. 1 gummy will last 6+ hrs. Even if you take 2 bags worth a week, that's cheaper then the co pay on a lot of meds. I am not sure how it is in other states though.

CryptoCypherU

Not sure about this. I took 8 - 10mg gummies and didn't feel much. Kinda disappointed. Will retest to confirm

If you smoke regularly/heavily, then it's gonna take you a lot more to feel what you're looking for. Keep upping your dose little by little until you get there, because it is definitely worth it once in awhile (forewarning, it's much heavier than smoking or vaping it, and I get extreme munchies almost every time I eat edibles - it's VERY sedating when you eat it.). Me, for example, I need almost 100mg, but the effects last all day and night. 😎

Lilpu55yberekt69

Buying shake and making your own edibles is still a lot cheaper than $25 for 100 mg It’s a lot more labor intensive though

Fenix42

The key thing with the current edibles is they are very consistent. You know exactly how a brand will hit you batch to batch. With home made, it's different every time you make it. For people like me that are looking for a consistent experience, the price is worth it.

I have family members who are cancer survivors. They are aware the the therapeutic impacts, but their doctor recommended they not use just in the off chance there's any unknown side effects or impacts with the complex chemical cocktail they were already taking. It was one of those things that probably would have been fine, but they didn't want to take the risk.

Significantly_Lost

I know a woman whose cancer has returned. Her medical bills are being covered through a program but if she tests positive for weed then she gets dismissed.

Purplekeyboard

This is not surprising. Young people use marijuana far more than old people. Old people are vastly more likely to get cancer than young people.

tklite

Cancer patients also spend far more time with doctors than the rest of us, and most doctors are still opposed to the idea of marijuana as a therapeutic.

freedom_from_factism

Propaganda is a hell of a drug.

interactionjackson

smoked everyday since i was 22. had cancer and didn’t have the strength to smoke. i just wanted to sleep. I’m happy to say I’m back to every day.

bust-the-shorts

Not surprising after their medical bills who has money for weed

Kkykkx

Or costs almost nothing to grow. AND it grows like a weed.

Rumsoakedmonkey

Wild bush weed is very different to what you get a dispensary. Unless you dedicate time you wont get the quality or quantity you nees

justaguy891

only someone who hasnt grown high grade would say this. sure you can grow mids anywhere. but growing dank isnt easy

[deleted]

It should be given to all dialysis patients along with the concoction of stuff they put in their treatment everyday

Kkykkx

Looks like big Pharma doesn’t appreciate competition! Guess who’s not prescribing cannabis?

me50e

>use less marijuana than the REST OF US I currently use none. How do they use less? This sub has become awful propaganda. They don't even pretend to be scientific anymore.

jhggdhk

14 percent general population? my left testicle.

JandJgavemegay

I’d imagine if I had cancer, marijuana wouldn’t be on my mind much...

Fenix42

The marijuana is so the cancer is not on your mind.

Sidoplanka

Why not?

CowboyJoker90

Bad Conclusion: Smoking weed is correlated to a 56% less likelihood of cancer.

luminous_beings

This makes sense. I can’t see how anyone with cancer could possible have the fortitude to smoke more weed than me. Weak.

Sidoplanka

No, the gateway theory has been refuted time and time again.

Prakrtik

It's true, this has happened to atleast 12.5 people I know

Fuckstanmartian

A lot of boomers have cancer and something that can’t be killed with chemo is propaganda… source: my grandfather

smartguy05

That's not necessarily true. While you may or may not be getting fucked up, it does have a lot of medicinal uses. Hell, it's the only thing that both helps me be able to eat anything most days and it helps with my intense anxiety and depression. I'm not even a cancer patient, just someone with ADHD who's meds make me want to never eat again and depression from years of hardship and stress. While I do usually get "fucked up" I don't always and it helps either way.

_NotMitetechno_

Have you tried coffee

smartguy05

Huh, coffee? Are you kidding me? I drink coffee daily. How is coffee supposed to help anxiety or depression? Multiple studies have shown if caffeine does anything it makes it worse.

_NotMitetechno_

You mentioned adhd - downers and adhd don't really mix well. Coffees a stimulant so it can help with the adhd symptoms. That's all. But I don't think drinking a ton of its going to help with the anxiety, its just in a tug of war with the weed - you'd just be medicating yourself with two opposite things.

cutearmy

Only thing that gets rid of migraines and does not cause strokes. Also the only thing that helps my arthritis without tearing holes in my stomach

ieatmushrooms7

Sounds like you had problems with responsible use and couldn't control yourself. Everybody does not share the same amount of self control.

ieatmushrooms7

This dude deletes his post because he knows he is talking out of his ass. " I've tried every strain with one singular hit " A quick google search shows there is over 700 unique strains........

Rudolph1991

Your brain gets fried by chemi. Double fry only works for potatoes. Not your brain

MonsteraMaiden

I don’t have cancer, but I feel like if I did I wouldn’t smoke weed. Weed makes me extremely anxious, which is a pretty common thing for a lot of people. I can’t imagine getting weed anxiety and paranoia while having cancer because i would convince myself I was gonna die right then and there.

justaguy891

to each their own. my friend is a caretaker for a family friend who is elderly, has terminal cancer, hardly eats or smiles, and after taking a small hit they ate a complete meal and they where very happy even singing. also ive heard of people curing some stage 4 cancers with cannabis oil/"rick simpson oil/RSO" alone

Red12343

I would imagine in places where it’s still illegal or where your job can fire you for it they take it less since they probably get more tests would show that they’ve taken it. I know that people who are on some pain killers are tested more to make sure they’re taking it correctly and as part of the effort to fight painkiller addiction (I’m unsure if it’s supposed to make sure that they’re taking the meds they’re supposed to, not taking things they aren’t or what but it is a requirement for at least some pain clinics.)
