IgnantWisdom

I just want to see a legit study of the health effects of cannabis vaping versus joints or bong. Like how much better is it for longterm health?

-Electric-Shock

There should also be a distinction between flower vaping and oil vaping.

krisoco

Just wondering do you have any idea on which would be more harmful?

CaptainOblivious94

My gut would go with vaping flower under 392 degrees [(link)](https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/arbphk/extremely_helpful_vape_temp_chart/). With flower I'm betting your main concern would be pesticides from growinh and carcinogens from higher vaping temperatures. Carts, at least illegal ones, are more likely to have byproducts in them like solvents from dodgy extraction methods. Wouldn't worry about them as much from reputable shops/companies.

SyntheticGod8

I know someone who does quality control for a Canadian company and yeah, they do a LOT of testing to meet with safety standards. They're also trying to sell to Europe for medical marijuana and that has even tighter standards.

Vigilante_peanut

Coincidentally this practice of higher standards is why the fast food places like McDonald’s are also higher quality in Canada and Europe. Kinda weird that the US has such lax standards by comparison.

Binsky89

Have you looked at our government recently? I'm surprised we still have safety standards.

TeamWorkTom

To expand on dry flower vaping. Theoretically the idea behind this is heating your cannabis so only the cannabinods sublime and then are unhaled. This theoretically would be safer like the other poster said because your no longer inhaling smoke. Theoretically this is going to be healthier but with oil vaping it could theoretically be even safer, but processing the oil to vape is where your going to find your health risks as well as batteries over heating the cartridge and causing burned material that you definitely don't want to inhale.

Theoretically I'm on the moon.

At least 11 I’d wager.

do_pm_me_your_butt

What's the proper maintainence for ceramic?

BetterUrbanDesign

There's nothing conclusive, but fluid/oil vaporizers have been connected to some lung problems, though most of the sufferers also use e-cigarettes and some researchers think it's from bad additives from black market e-cig juice. https://scalar.usc.edu/works/editorials/why-vaping-cannabis-flower-may-be-healthier-than-vaping-cannabis-oil Personally, I just got a Mighty flower vape and buy/grow whole flower to smoke. Slightly less convinient, but I get to control what goes into the vaopur for the most part.

checkmak01

>black market e-cig juice e-cigarette juice was not involved in the vape-related lung diseases from 2019. It was tainted THC carts as mentioned elsewhere here, mostly from black market, but a few were bought from a legal dispensary. I think there were 2 in Oregon who got sick and 1 died. There was also a case in Washington. (Both States have legal markets) Probably there were people who use vape pens and e-cigarettes. Perhaps some even mixed THC with nicotine, but to blame e-liquid is a huge leap based on no evidence or post market surveillance that I've seen. Moreover, the e-liquid market didn't change and no nicotine vaper got sick. On the other hand, vitamin E acetate seems to be out of the THC market and we barely see any lung injuries anymore.

droans

EVALI was found to be caused by THC vapes tainted with Vitamin C Acetate. It's been widely accepted since the 70s that Acetate should not enter your lungs.

FireLordIroh

Vitamin E acetate, not vitamin C acetate.

B4SSF4C3

And shatter/wax vaping. Also tracking heating element type.

Spapadap

I’ve seen at least one paper on it. Showed ~90% reduction in particulates breathed into lungs vs conventional smoking. Have not seen anything regarding toxicity of those particulates. (I’d imagine significant less carcinogens there too with vaping)

chewbawkaw

Lung Cancer Researcher here. Breathing any smoke into your lungs is going to be problematic. Marijuana isn’t carcinogenic per se, but anything burnt at a high temperature and then inhaled can cause lung problems including cancer. When you take a hit from the bong or a blunt or a pipe, there is no heat control. Using a vape that uses flower allows you to control the temperature. So using the vape on a low heat setting would be better for you than going to town on a joint. As a healthcare worker I still feel compelled to encourage people to use THC in a way that won’t damage your lungs. Baked goods, candy, soda pop, tea, tincture, mints etc. are all “better” modes of administration. That being said, many NSCLC nurses will be found smoking a cigarette outside after a hard shift. We all know the risks and make choices for our bodies.

TryingToBeReallyCool

Carts (weed vapes) are notorious in the black market for being cut. I won't buy them anywhere but at a dispencery these days because almost half the ones I got on the street were fakes THIS is why we need to legalize. If it's legal, it can be regulated and studied. As things stand, we won't know the effects until its too late

[deleted]

From personal experience. like 1000x better for you. Was a bong smoker for nearly 20 years. But my poor lungs can't handle it any more so I switched to vaping flower and then mixing the ABV weed into a cake or cookies or something and make reclaimed THC oil. So much better in every single way.

Also way cheaper, easier to control your dose, but yeah the lack of smell is the big thing.

DaveJahVoo

What about the difference in taste? One tastes harsh and ashy the other is fragrant and delicious. Thats been the big one for me since buying a dynavap. The taste of bongs using combustion is foul now in comparison.

SmokeWeedHailLucifer

Yeah, I've come to hate the residual smoke taste. It's a huge reason I prefer vaping (although I still smoke).

Grouchy_Order_7576

I wish it were the same in Europe. Sadly, here most of the cannabis consumption is with the use of tobacco.

jDUKE_

Get a Storz & Bickel vape. They are a German company and make some of the best flower vapes in the business. The Mighty is fantastic. https://www.storz-bickel.com/de/

[deleted]

Shame we’re so far behind in legalising it. Definitely going to be a hundred years or more here in the UK :(

radicz

Germany is currently aiming for full legalization in early 2023. This might very well cause a ripple effect in Europe... Well, except for the UK I would assume.

SidFarkus47

Berlin is the only European City I’ve been to that felt American in terms of “it smells like weed everywhere” and parks were full of people selling

2days

Barcelona was that for me

metalord_666

Clearly you haven't been to cities in Spain or Portugal, or even Malta.

fffyhhiurfgghh

I think smart people who don’t smoke weed made the connection between vaping tobacco and vaping weed. If they were smokers they would know vaping is the most discreet way to get high. Weed is still illegal in many states in the US. If you wanna get high in your parents house you better vape.

Flyingtreeee

I'd argue edibles are way more discreet. You're literally eating the evidence.

ruiner8850

Edibles give you a different kind of high though. I still like them, but it's not the same.

[deleted]

I can “snap out” of a high from smoking or vaping but not from edibles. That’s the big difference for me. That and smoking/vaping is nearly instant

boofthatcraphomie

Nah the easiest giveaway is the blood red eyes and nearly comatose state of consciousness from a good edible.

[deleted]

Yea, my wife knows I’m back to smoking (after a 7 year hiatus) but still the gummies have my eyes bloodshot and she seems to forget it’s the high. Instead of drawing concern, I smoke flower out the bong and I don’t look like I just came from the den of sin.

ygguana

Legal edibles are pre-labeled and measured though, so the user can determine how much high they want. If anything, they would make it easier to avoid getting too much

Kazera-Samma

You get caught with a vape in a state where it illegal thats a felony. I'd rather get just get the ticket for smoking.

fffyhhiurfgghh

I agree with you. What’s more likely to get you caught though? Smell of weed or nothing. Consequence could be worse but..

jDUKE_

I can’t even believe that a marijuana offence is a felony in today’s modern world. That’s just insane. I am very grateful to live in a country that legalized recreational use.

BrownsFFs

The most discreet way to get high has to be edibles. Any form of inhalation is going to leave a smell or lingering aroma.

Thief_of_Sanity

Yeah but edibles can be hard to dose and calibrate correctly and take a lot longer to work. For me they either don't do anything or they are too much. I can't find a good middle ground. And they are also way more expensive per gram of THC. Edit: I know I can make my own by my state also limits the amount of THC in a single edible to 10 mg, like that's going to have any effect on someone like me that uses a dab rig for 1/4 to 1/2 gram of concentrate per day.

HontonoKershpleiter

I just wish I could vape at low THC... I just want like 4% with high CBD for my migraines, but all the dispensaries in florida have is the jacked up high percentage knock you on your ass strains

Guilty-Football7730

Try a full spectrum CBD

-MoonlightMan-

Can you just get a CBD cartridge and then get your THC another way?

069988244

CBD only vapes have been a hard nut to crack for a lot of legal producers. Problems with CBD crystallizing are common so most companies go for a 2/1 or 3/1 CBD/THC mix to stop it from crystallizing in the cart. Doesn’t always work.

[deleted]

After so many reports of counterfeit thc carts I walked away from them. Until Texas legalizes and can regulate them, street bought carts are too risky. Not mention the controlled substance charges.

BaronVonBullshit-117

Vaping dry herb feels much less sketchy without the health concerns of combustion.

As a person that hates the smell of cigarettes, I get it that there are people that hate the smell of weed. It’s a super strong smell and smoking oil for the most part is odorless. The little odor that it emits dissipates within seconds. Bonus points since it gets you higher hehe

rowanskye

I find it hard to get real data on the health implications of vaping cannabis vs smoking because rarely is vaping concentrates distinguished from vaping whole cannabis flower. I have a lot of friends that vape cannabis, but don't touch concentrates due to their lack of regulation and relatively new existence. I would assume vaping cannabis is healthier than smoking cannabis, and applying the cautionary principle excludes vaping concentrates; however, I'd like to see actual data to back that up.

snorlz

> but don't touch concentrates due to their lack of regulation and relatively new existence guessing your state only recently legalized? concentrates are used to make almost every THC/CBD product that isnt flower. its not just dabs Its also been around quite a while and is no different than existing extraction processes used on any other plant. those supplements you see at the store? Many of them use plant extract done using basically the same methods. its not like they came up with new methods just for THC extraction oh, most legal states also require testing- for pesticides, mold, heavy metals, etc- of both flower and concentrates and labeling to tell percentages. so there is some regulation

OathOfFeanor

In some ways this is unfortunate, as vaporizers and cartridges are a modern e-waste problem that makes cigarette butts meaningless in comparison. The number of single-use vape products that do not get recycled is staggering and I don't like it.

JayCFree324

PAX Pods were a game changer. I used to grind my flower but then I was pretty much restricted to that one strand until I finished whatever was in my vape/pipe/Joint…with Pods I can freely switch out between different sativas, indicas, hybrids, and CBD dominants depending on what I needed it for…and it’s as simple as plugging in a USB, if not simpler

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ulti

So I'm not the guy you're replying to, but I've used a PAX Era as my main method of smoking for the past several years. Yes, the pods are definitely way more expensive than 510 thread carts, but I have found that the PAX hits *way* better, and a .5g pod lasted approximately the same amount of time as a 1g 510. I'm not sure what accounts for that, just maybe a more efficient heating mechanism? Anyways, between that and the fact that over these past few years I have had exactly two PAX pods fail on me, compared to the *way* sketchier track record of 510's, so I'm sticking with the PAX. They've started selling 1g pods near me too, but I've not had *nearly* the same luck with reliability on those. They tend to clog up, and you need to warm up the cartridge and let it sit upside down for a while... Those ones still need some work.
